The top story in all newspapers today was the remarks made by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the first national conference on citizens’ rights.

Conservative and economic papers mostly focused on Rouhani’s comments about the increase in fuel prices and his reaction to the criticisms against his government, while reformist papers mostly covered his remarks about citizens’ rights and freedom of expression.

A missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement at a Saudi royal palace in Riyadh also received great coverage today.

Iran in Photos: Natural Beauties in Autumn

Autumn is a season in which most of the leaves fall from the trees and the branches rattle like old bare bones. It is seen as the time of plenty, a time for hard work, a time when we wistfully watch the year fade into winter. Yet autumn has supernatural associations.

It is the same season which is sometimes praised by its magic, and some call it the “King of the Seasons”.

Here are ISNA’s photos of = beautiful autumn sceneries in Iran’s Isfahan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces:

Iran FM Holds Talks with Turkish, Azeri Counterparts

In a Wednesday meeting, Zarif and Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu discussed the expansion of bilateral ties between Tehran and Ankara, particularly in the field of banking. Iran FM Holds Talks with Turkish, Azeri Counterparts

They also exchanged views on the latest regional developments.

Earlier in the day, the Iranian top diplomat also met his Azeri counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

During the talks, the two sides explored avenues for promoting mutual economic cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic, particularly in the field of railway.

They also conferred on energy ties in the Caspian Sea as well as the issue of Jerusalem al-Quds.

Zarif arrived in Baku on Tuesday to attend the fifth round of Iran-Azerbaijan-Turkey trilateral talks, which are currently underway in the Azeri capital.

People Have Every Right to Criticize Gov’t: Iran President

President Rouhani delivered a speech on Tuesday which revolved around civil rights. Rouhani seems to have revived the election ambience in response to the “#I_regret_it” campaign which recently challenged him by drawing up a list of his unfulfilled promises.

While highlighting people’s right to ask questions, the president took as good omen the questions raised about the spending package proposed by his administration for the next Iranian year beginning March 21, 2017.

He called on people to continue criticizing the government and overseeing how the country’s budget is spent.

The president also touched upon the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Addressing those opposing the agreement, Rouhani said, “They shouldn’t pin their hopes on Trump. The JCPOA will remain, and we will continue [to implement] it.”

People Should Monitor Us

President Rouhani said “We should open up the atmosphere and make it transparent,” adding, “I want people not to leave next year’s budget [bill] alone and see for themselves what is envisioned in the spending package.”

He said the spotlight should be turned onto the details of the budget bill and “all apparatuses should announce where they have spent the [current year’s] budget.”

“We should go into transparent and glass rooms,” the president noted.

Rouhani noted that people should oversee the government’s performance.

“Right the day after the budget bill was presented to parliament, a whole lot of activities kicked off in the virtual world. How beautiful! All people came to the scene, and expressed their views and criticisms. I kiss their hands. You people should criticize the person who is serving you. People have the right to know how much budget is allocated to what government institution,” said the president.

“People say that such and such institution has received several billion [Rials] in funding, and they raise an objection as to why some institutions are given so much budget. People’s opinion is top of everything. If most people believe too much funding has been allotted, they they’re right. What the majority of people say, is right.”

I’ll Keep My Promises to You

The president also vowed to make good on his elections pledges.

“As president, I will live up to my promises, and I want you people to keep your promise, too. We started the work together and should continue it. Rouhani needs your views, support and criticism at all times as long as the 12th administration is in office. Ask questions and we will answer. I put my life on the line to fulfill my promises. We have dozens of problems ahead. If we join hands, we can solve the problems,” he said.

Yemen Missile Attacks on Riyadh Escalate Regional Tensions: Hariri

“The repeated targeting of Saudi territory by missile attacks from Yemeni territory not only threatens the security of the kingdom and the safety of its people, but also exposes the region to serious dangers and exacerbates existing divisions and conflicts,” Hariri said in a statement carried by his press office.

“We strongly condemn such attacks and stress the need to abandon these aggressive methods, refrain from policies that fuel conflict and resort to the path of dialogue to solve difficult problems.”

The missile was fired over southern Riyadh, which the Houthis said they launched to target Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, where King Salman chairs weekly government meetings.

It was the second Houthi missile attack against Riyadh over the past two months. The first attack targeted Riyadh international airport on November 4, but Riyadh claimed that it managed to intercept the projectile.

Yemen says the missile attacks are in retaliation for the Saudi regime’s deadly attacks on the impoverished Yemenis, who have been under the brutal attacks of a Saudi-led coalition since 2015.

“Muslims Should Boycott US-Made Goods in Support of Palestine”

Iranian parliamentarian Mostafa Kavakebian says Islamic states should adopt counter-measures against Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital.

“Muslim countries can boycott American goods and downgrade their relations with the US as part of measures to counter [US President Donald] Trump’s illogical decisions and his interference in other countries’ internal affairs,” said ICANA in a Farsi report.

He said the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) member states recently sent envoys to Tehran to discuss and make a decision on how to tackle Trump’s unwise move

“We, as members of the Palestinian Intifada Support Committee, took part in an emergency meeting of the [PUCI’s] Palestine Committee [on Monday] to review ways of tackling this action,” said the lawmaker.

“We should not hesitate to show reaction in order to make Trump rescind his inappropriate and illogical decision,” he said.

The lawmaker added the statement released by the committee served the same purpose in order to prompt countries’ parliaments to take practical actions in that regard.

“Iran Has Nothing to Do with Yemen’s Missiles”

In a televised interview with Al-Alam News Network on Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Tehran is not sending weapons to Yemen, whatsoever.

“We have no arms links with Yemen,” said the spokesman.

“Yemen is under siege, and generally there is no possibility [of Iran sending arms to Yemen]; moreover, Iran would be brave enough to announce such an action and policy if it had one,” he noted.

“What is in Yemeni people’s hands today are the arms which have existed in garrisons since previous governments,” he said.

“Today, we are witnessing that Yemen has opted to use internal techniques to stand up to relentless aggression and attacks, and this is natural.”

Qassemi’s remarks came after the Yemeni Ansarullah movement fired a new missile at the Saudi king’s palace in Riyadh in response to the Saudi aggression on Yemen. Saudi media once again claimed that the missile had been made by Iran.

Iran, France to Hold Political Talks in Paris

araghchii

The talks will be headed by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Secretary-General of France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maurice Gourdault-Montagne.

The talks will be held within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during his visit to France.

These negotiations, which are regularly held in Tehran and Paris every six months, will be a mechanism within which the two countries develop their bilateral relations in various political, economic and cultural spheres.

Discussing the regional and international issues, especially developments in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, are on the agenda of this round of talks.

In his two-day trip to Paris, Araqchi will also meet with French officials and deliver a lecture at the French Institute of International Relations.

Trump’s National Security Strategy to Lead World to Insecurity: Iran

In a statement on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the document published by the Trump administration is full of futile efforts by its fabricators to introduce Iran as a threat, which is totally rejected and condemned.

Qassemi stressed that the contents of the unconventional text lack any rationale and realism, and are nothing but a repetition of the same allegations, unfounded accusations, and baseless illusions by Washington and a few regional states.

“The unwise content of this unbalanced and one-sided strategy clearly show that the US government is trying to play the blame game in face of the challenges, dysfunctions and self-created problems it has always been dealing with in the domestic and international arena,” he noted, adding that such problems have become more and more visible over the past year.

The threats that the US assumes to be facing mostly emanate from wrong policies, behaviours and practices of its politicians and statesmen over the past decade towards other nations of the world, especially their numerous mistakes in the sensitive and strategic West Asian region and the Persian Gulf, he went on to say.

“It seems that US statesmen still do not have the will to review their policies and behaviours, especially their view about the world and other nations. That is why they cannot tolerate the independent policies and approaches of some countries like Iran, and see them as contrary to their national interests and security.”

“By insisting on obsolete and repetitive approaches, they are trying to keep the world at a standstill by causing problems that mostly arise from the policies of various US administrations,” he added.

The Iranian spokesman underlined that the new US national security strategy is a reckless one which will undoubtedly lead the world towards more insecurity, increase instability and expand terrorism.

Qassemi further noted that the international community’s inattention to the adventurism of the US president has allowed Donald Trump to develop his policies and future outlook based on fabricated and unrealistic threats.

Such policies, he added, will definitely have no achievement but further defeats for the US in the international arena and its areas of interest.

Iran, Azerbaijan Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Ties

During the Tuesday meeting, Zarif and Aliyev discussed ways to expand and deepen bilateral relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, and also exchanged views on regional issues.

Zarif arrived in the Azerbaijani capital on Tuesday in order to take part in a trilateral meeting between Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The meeting, which is slated for December 20, will be the fifth meeting between the foreign ministers of the three countries, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

During the meeting, the participants will exchange views on a broad range of issues in various economic fields including transit, transportation, energy, and customs, he said.

Qassemi added that other issues of mutual interest in technical and business fields as well as political cooperation particularly on regional issues like contributing to further peace and stability in the region are also high on the agenda.
