Mat-Weaving; Traditional Occupation in Southeast Iran

The reeds in Lake Hamun once used to be the material of mat-weaving for the people of this land. However, due to the drought in recent years, people provide the reeds from the northern provinces of the country.

Mat-weaving as one of the main handicrafts of Sistan and Baluchestan plays a decisive role for the families to make a living. Sistan and Baluchestan’s mats are used as insect screens at the entrance of the houses while some others decorate the exterior windows of the buildings.

Jerusalem al-Quds Belongs to All Muslims around World: Iran

“The situation we are experiencing today is very important, because Jerusalem al-Quds is a holy city for Muslims as well as Christians and Jews,” Rouhani said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks before leaving Tehran for Istanbul, Turkey, to attend an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Donald Trump’s Jerusalem al-Quds decision.

He further mentioned that the party which is a stranger on the Palestinian land is the Zionist regime because Muslims, Jews and Christians have lived together for centuries in Palestine.

“The wrong decision of the US president to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds was a rude decision as Quds does not only belong to a nation or a geographic region. It is respected by all Muslims in the world and the al-Aqsa mosque is the first kiblah of Muslims,” underlined Rouhani.

Iranian president also noted that today Jerusalem al-Quds is the third holiest place for Muslims in the world, and if Muslims were silent in face of such an illegal decision, they (the US and the Zionists) would have conspired for more sinister plans later on.

“The global arrogance and the Zionists want to test how the Muslim world reacts. As you see, from the very moment that this wrong and illegal decision was announced, people in the Muslim world rose to show their anger. From the easternmost parts of Indonesia, to the westernmost regions of Morocco, all Muslims stood up against the move and condemned the act.”

Rouhani further emphasized that the Muslim world is resisting against the “wrong” US decision on Jerusalem al-Quds and warned of new tensions and the dire consequences that Trump’s decision would have for the Middle East.

Iran’s president also added that if Islamic countries maintain their unity, it will be a big victory for Muslims and the region.

“Our message is that the Palestinian cause is the most important issue for the Muslim world. They must condemn this move in all international bodies, particularly the United Nations.”

“Over the years, the United States has turned Palestine into the second issue of the region because of the terrorism that it has expanded in the region. Washington was assuming the issue of Palestine is forgotten; therefore they occupied the land of Palestine for seventy years,” added the Iranian president.

He went on to say that although Trump’s decision was a menacing one, it led to a positive move in the history of Islam, and all Muslims in the world shouted at once saying that the Palestinian issue is the first issue of the Muslim world.

On December 6, Trump sparked international outrage by declaring that Washington was recognizing Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city.

The announcement prompted harsh international warnings that it would bring more chaos to the Middle East region. Several protests have been held in many countries over the past days against the US and the Israeli regime.

Remains of Medieval Warrior with Arrow in Chest Found in Bulgaria

Remains of Medieval Warrior with Arrow in Chest Found in Bulgaria

The amazing grave site was discovered during a dig in the 7,000-year-old city of Plovdiv, the oldest town in Europe.

The human bones are said to date from the 11th to 12th centuries.

The newly-discovered grave was found at the spot of a known medieval necropolis which was first discovered several decades ago.

A team of scientists from the Plovdiv Museum of Archaeology excavating the spot said the latest discovery is exciting not only because it was made right underneath the modern-day surface but because an arrow has been found at the chest of the buried person.

They believe the person was either killed by the arrow, or it was placed in their grave as a funeral gift for the afterlife.

In the latter case the person, whose gender has not been established for sure yet, would have been a warrior.

“Early on, in the uppermost layers, we have discovered lots of pottery and a burial, a medieval one,” lead archaeologist Maya Martinova has explained.”

“We found it yesterday,” she was quoted as saying by Daily Star.

“It is interesting that we have found an arrow at the chest [of the buried person].

Remains of Medieval Warrior with Arrow in Chest Found in Bulgaria“The burial dates to the 11th-12th century.”

Martinova said it is possible that the person in question was killed by the discovered arrow.

“Yet, there is also a custom of placing arrows [in graves] as burial gifts when the person in question is a warrior,” the researcher cautioned.

“We cannot say for sure yet which one it is – whether they were killed by the arrow or whether it was put in the grave – because the bones are not properly arranged,” she added.

“We may stumble upon surprises in every single layer going down from here. Actually, this [place] is a necropolis which was registered decades ago during the research of the entire [archaeological] complex… We have now found one more grave from that period.”

Plovdiv is said to be one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in Europe.

Researchers from the Plovdiv Medical University have joined the archaeological team to find out whether the burial person was killed by the arrow found in their chest.

Their anthropological study is also supposed to establish the medieval person’s gender, age, and other details.

The remarkable find was discovered at start of rescue excavations at the Antiquity Odeon, an ancient performance facility.

UN Does Not Confirm Saudi Claims about Iran’s Link to Yemen Missiles

The missiles were fired by Yemeni Houthi fighters at the Saudi capital on July 22 and November 4 in retaliation for Riyadh’s deadly raids against the country.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a confidential report obtained by AFP on Monday that the world body’s team, which visited Riyadh last month to scrutinize the alleged evidence, had not yet established a link between them and the Islamic Republic.

Saudi Arabia, which accuses Iran of arming Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement against the kingdom, claims the missiles, which it says were fired at its capital city, had been supplied to Yemeni forces by Iran.

Following the first missile launch, Riyadh also angered the international community and human rights groups by tightening the already crippling siege against Yemen.

Tehran has invariably dismissed having ever armed the movement and any accusation of regional interference for that matter.

On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, “Whatever happens inside Yemen concerns the Yemeni people and resistance and does not concern the Islamic Republic.”

The Houthis have been defending Yemen against a Saudi-led military offensive, which seeks to restore the former Riyadh-allied government. The war has killed some 12,000 people and reduced the country’s infrastructure to smithereens since its start in early 2015.

Guterres wrote that UN officials were “still analyzing the information collected and will report back to the [UN] Security Council.”

The investigators also examined two drones allegedly recovered in Yemen, but did not confirm a Saudi claim that one of them was “Iranian-made.”

Former British Diplomat Urges Trump to Mend Ties with Iran

trump

In an opinion piece published by The Independent, Watt quoted American and Israeli security veterans as saying that the US president should understand the need for better ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to realize regional peace.

What follows are excerpts of his article:

When things keep spiralling into chaos, the only way is to step back and take a hard look at the fundamentals. This week has tossed another couple of spoilers into the already fraught situation of the Middle East. The most notorious is President Donald Trump’s self-serving announcement that the United States will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, upending seven decades of careful international consensus on the unique nature of the city, and on the part its status has to play in honouring the rights of the Palestinians. The other is the news from Yemen of another blood-soaked development in its devastating war, with the rupture of the Houthi-Saleh alliance leading to the latter’s death and the prospect of more factional fighting.

The Trump announcement on Jerusalem has drawn almost universal opposition. The Persian Gulf states who had been pinning hopes on a return of American interest in their security, are appalled at the gratuitousness of a move that feeds popular resentment of the United States, and makes a partnership all the more costly for them, as it does for all Muslim countries. […]

The choices facing the countries of the region were already complicated enough. Though ISIS may now have been defeated in territorial terms, jihadist [extremist] insurgency in the region is not, as the recent atrocity in Northern Sinai attested. The measures taken against Qatar by four Arab states were in protest at what they saw as its continuing support for militant Islamist factions, described under the inaccurate title of “the Muslim Brotherhood”. Saudi Arabia meanwhile has made confronting Iran the centrepiece of its regional policy, finding common cause with Israel.

Iranian power in Arab lands has indeed increased as a result of the joint military effort to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria, in which Iranian Revolution Guards [IRGC] and Iranian-sponsored militias have played a major part. The Damascus regime remains critically dependent on them for its survival. In Lebanon, Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah, continues to hold the country hostage and to alarm Israel.

What is driving these conflictive tendencies? There is certainly a strong dose of ideology in the mix. Though Iran may no longer be claiming to export the Islamic Revolution of 1979, it does see itself as the protector of Shia minorities in the region. Saudi Arabia, for its part, sees itself as protecting Sunni Islam from Iranian encroachments. […]

A stronger driver though is self-protection, and a memory of existential vulnerability. This is certainly the case with Israel. For Iran too: Saddam Hussein’s unprompted aggression in 1980, which the UN Security Council infamously failed to condemn, and the eight years of devastating war that followed egged on by the major powers, left Iran convinced that only by acquiring strategic alliances with Iraq and Syria could it hope to defend itself in future. Saudi Arabia and its allies see this forward defence as aggression: the classic formula for an avoidable war. Israel’s constant threats to destroy Iran and its nuclear capability have led Iran to build up Hezbollah as a deterrent, which with its reported 160,000 missiles it probably now is.

Looking behind these essentially psychological factors, what is the reality of these threats? Is Iran intrinsically an existential threat to Israel? Is Israel intrinsically an existential threat to Iran? Is conflict between Iran and its Arab [Persian] Gulf neighbours inevitable? Does it have to be so? Is it beyond human intelligence to find a better way?

Respected Israeli security veterans have been arguing the need to talk to Iran. They should be heeded, and the debate opened up. Respected American voices have been calling for an end to the demonisation of Iran: the US administration should recognise that President Rouhani offers the best opportunity for diplomatic solutions, and Congress should not fall into the trap of imposing further sanctions. Honest advice needs to be given to Saudi Arabia about the best way to build regional security. The Europeans should stick to their guns on preserving the nuclear agreement with Iran, and Britain should come off the fence about the future of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Outside powers should learn to heed what the region is saying. Largely unnoticed, some countries, notably Egypt, the UAE and Oman, have been consistently arguing for de-escalation and for intelligent diplomacy. They need active support from the major powers, and the Permanent Five need to fulfil their responsibility for international peace and security. Not in the old, discredited way of imposing self-serving outcomes, of the kind President Trump has just inflicted. But by upholding principles that are the only foundation for peace, and by respecting the voices of a region too-long traduced by external power-plays.

Iran’s Beauties in Photos: Meighan Wetland

There are more than 130 species of birds, including cranes, ducks, flamingos, goose, etc. in this wetland. The area of the wetland changes from 10,000 hectares to 12,000 hectares depending on its water inputs.

Meighan is one of the most important sites for nature tourism and bird-watching in the country. Due to the gathering of cranes in this wetland on November 15, the day has been called The Day of Cranes.

Iranian MPs Urge Muslim States to Sever Ties with Israel

In a statement on Tuesday, Iranian lawmakers condemned US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital, and underlined that al-Quds is and will remain a holy site for all Muslims. The full text of the statement follows:

Unfortunately, the businessman-like US president recently declared al-Quds as the capital of the fabricated Israeli regime. This very move by the president happens to be a clear indication that the Zionist regime [of Israel] is a fabricated regime which has no identity because the regime needs a so-called superpower to declare Muslims’ land as the capital of that regime by force and without paying attention to other dimensions of the issue.

On the other hand, we should offer our most sincere greetings to the pure soul of the late Imam [Khomeini], who got to know the nature of this identity-less regime and announced that the region would not savour the taste of peace and tranquility as long as Israel is there.

The naïve people who, in the 1990s, celebrated the beginning of the peace process in the Middle East, have now realized that the United States of America does not even abide by its own agreements and has driven the last nail in the coffin of the so-called peace trend in the Middle East.

The US and the Zionist regime [of Israel], as the wise Leader of the [Islamic] Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] put it, adopt such weak decisions out of desperation. Let them know that the Islamic community will not remain silent vis-à-vis such criminal acts, and definitely, the US will be responsible for the consequences of this decision.

We, the lawmakers of the Iranian Parliament, call on Islamic countries to sever their diplomatic relations with the Zionist regime [of Israel] and also scale down their economic ties with the US to the minimum. The parliaments of Muslim countries should also guide their governments to adopt an approach in compliance with the demands of the Islamic community.

Undoubtedly, the Iranian government and nation, by following the late Imam [Khomeini] and the Leader, have supported the holy ideals of the Islamic Revolution, namely fighting the Israeli regime, despite all factional and political differences.

Iran, Turkey Dismiss Trump’s Jerusalem Decision as “Big Mistake”

In a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Iran’s Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said that Trump’s decision comes after the defeat of the United States in Iraq and Syria, their failure to declare Iraqi Kurdistan independent, and their dismay after the compulsory resignation of the prime minister of the Lebanon.

“The US decision to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds is an irresponsible policy to reinforce the occupying approach of the Zionist regime. We do believe that this move is the result of differences in the Muslim Ummah and the compromise of some Arab states with the Israeli regime,” added Hatami.

Referring to the crimes being committed in Yemen, the Iranian minister called the brutal murder of the Yemeni people a full-fledged humanitarian crisis, saying that the international community and Muslim countries should be more concerned about the end of bombardments and the siege of the oppressed Yemeni people.

According to a Farsi report by IRNA, Hatami further pointed to the development of defence cooperation between Iran and Turkey, and stressed that “we welcome the expansion of bilateral collaborations in military, defence industries and the exchange of educational and research experience to enhance the level of defensive capabilities.”

Expressing satisfaction with the current level of relations between the two countries and their interactions regarding the regional developments, General Hatami said some regional and international powers have been seeking to create division between Iran and Turkey over the past few years, but their conspiracy has failed thanks to the will of the leaders of the two countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian minister congratulated the government and the people of Turkey on the annihilation of ISIS, saying, “The destruction of ISIS is an example of regional cooperation and the result of interaction between Iran, Turkey and Russia, which has angered the Zionists and the US government.”

For his part, Turkish Minister of National Defence Nurettin Canikli pointed to the commonalities of the two countries, noting that the recent developments in the region highlighted the need for cooperation between Iran and Turkey.

He also noted that no power can affect the friendship and fraternity between Tehran and Ankara.

Canikli condemned Trump’s decision to declare Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime as a great mistake, adding that the decision is not accepted by any Muslim in the world.

At the end of the conversation, Canikli accepted the invitation of his Iranian counterpart to take a trip to Iran and emphasized the importance of defence cooperation between the two countries and also continuation of bilateral interactions within the framework of Astana Talks on Syria.

ISIS after Establishment of Caliphate in Pakistan, Afghanistan: Iran

pakistan-ISIS

In an address to a one-day conference in Tehran, dubbed “Terrorism, Extremism and Regional Security of West Asia”, Alavi said following its heavy defeats in the Middle East, ISIS is now seeking to impose its dominance on other regions like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia with the aim of fulfilling its long-term goal of restoring its Islamic caliphate in the world.

“Religious extremism, regardless of its origin, leads to imprudent and abnormal moves including terrorism. We have witnessed the emergence of extremism in the guise of various religions over the past years,” he was quoted as saying by Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday.

He went on to say the Buddhism extremism in Myanmar has set the lives of Muslims ablaze. “We saw the same trend when a number of Christians were set ablaze by a priest. Extremism in the form of racist moves and Nazism in France and Germany has led to inappropriate and brutal behaviours.”

Alavi then outlined the history of terrorism and extremism in Islam and said extremism first emerged among Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Saudi Arabia’s Wahhabism.

He cited occupation of Islamic countries as another cause contributing to the emergence of extremism. “During the last century, the West’s colonialist measures and occupation of Islamic states like Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq humiliated many Islamic groups pushing them towards extremist retaliatory moves.”

The Iranian minister added when facing big powers which have imposed their will on the region, some Islamic groups begin to see themselves defenceless and come to the conclusion that there is no way out of their plight but resorting to violence.

Alavi then referred to the recent decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital saying Trump announced that the decision should have been made 20 years ago “but the main question is: what has the US done during the past 20 years to prepare the grounds for the relocation of US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds?”

He added over the past two decades the Zionist regime has been viewed as the main threat to the Islamic world. According to Alavi, the US’ support for the Zionist regime paved the way for the emergence of the extremist groups in the region.

“Though the terrorist groups have been uprooted in the region but we must remain vigilant because they are seeking to restore themselves in other parts of the world in new forms,” he added.

He underlined a moderate and logical account of religion will never lead to extremism and terrorism and said certain states in the region have built up their religious account on ethnicity and tribalism turning the region into a source of extremism.

Alavi called for distinguishing between religion and extremism and said the US and its allies have tried over the past years to push Islamic groups towards extremism.

“It is extremism rather than religion that is the main source of terrorism. The extremist groups have emerged following the humiliation of Muslims and occupation of their lands by the enemies of the Islamic world,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his address, the Iranian minister said the Takfiri groups are seeking to promote a misleading version of Islam.

“The enemies are trying to introduce the Islamic Revolution as a Shiite revolution with the aim of causing rift among the Shiite and Sunni populations and prevent the emergence of new uprisings against their hegemony on the Islamic world,” he said.

Alavi called for unity of the Islamic nations against the enemies and said fortunately today the Islamic world has managed to promote the true face of Islam and foil enemy plots to push the Muslim youths towards terrorism.

Trump Decision on Jerusalem, Beginning of Israel’s Demise: Nasrallah

“They wanted this decision to be the beginning of the end of the Palestinian cause, but I’m sure this decision will be the beginning of the end of Israel,” Nasrallah said on Monday.

He made the remarks in an address to crowds of people who demonstrated in the southern suburb of Beirut in denunciation of the US decision to announce Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime.

“We have been with Palestine since the 1940s and we will stay with Palestine until the Muslims can pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Christians can pray in the Resurrection church,” he added.

He also called on the Palestinians to announce the emergence of an intifada (uprising) backed by the Arab and Islamic nations

Nasrallah asked the Palestinian people to hold on to their rights and refuse this decision in all possible ways, confirming that al-Quds is the Palestinians’ everlasting capital.

“The stance of the Palestinian people is the key to all the coming period,” he said, according to Al-Manar.

“We renew our vow to stay with Palestine, al-Quds, and all the Islamic and Christian sanctities, as we are witnessing today a true intifada (uprising) in which Muslims and Christians are all united to defend the sanctities.”

He further noted that the major response today should be boycotting the Israeli enemy, halting talks, and stopping any talks of normalized ties with Tel Aviv.

He also called upon the Palestinians to “kick out any delegation that comes with an intention of normalizing relations with Israel and tell them that there won’t be any negotiation or settlement before Trump pulls back his decision”.

Nasrallah stressed that the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) must put an end to the peace process.

He reassured that “the US was not a sponsor of peace in Palestine and the region, but rather the establisher of Israel and the sponsor of terror, occupation, Judaization, and destruction. It is the establisher of ISIS and Takfiri groups and the nation’s common stance must be “Death to America”.”

Nasrallah expressed his appreciation to all the states, presidents, and governments who rejected Trump’s decision, noting that “Trump thought that if he announced Al-Quds the capital of Israel the entire world would submit to him, but instead he only had Israel on his side.”

He went on to say that “I speak today in the name of all the resistance axis – people, states, and factions – the resistance axis has overcome the previous phase and today, it stands strong and victorious as it is finishing its battles and defeating the US and Israeli elements, and now Palestine, its people, and Al-Quds will return to be its top priority.”
