Iran Army Distributes Nuts, Fruits in Quake-Hit Areas during Yalda Night

General Javad Moalei, a local army commander, says the packages will be distributed Thursday night in different areas of Kermanshah province, which was hit by a deadly quake last month.

Besides the distribution of food and nut packages, other efforts are also underway to help the quake-stricken people ahead of Yalda Night.

“By the end of Wednesday December 20, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran will deploy at least 400 temporary shelters in one of the areas in Sarpol-e Zahab,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by Mizan News Agency.

According to General Moalei, a temporary medical centre set up earlier by the army is still active in the quake-hit Sarpol-e Zahab offering services to the residents.

The winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year or the longest night of the year, is known as ‘Yalda Night’ in Iran and is annually celebrated by Iranian people across the world based on an ancient tradition. Yalda Night (also known in Iran as Shab-e Chelleh) is a Persian winter event which is commemorated on or around December 20 or 21 each year.

Iran DM Dismisses Haley’s Claim about Latest Yemeni Missile

Speaking at a meeting of commanders of the Iranian Army in Tehran on Wednesday, Brigadier General Hatami denounced “unfounded and baseless allegations” levelled against Iran by Haley and said such claims are indicative of the failure of Washington’s policies in the region and the world.

Such remarks are more like “a ridiculous and worthless show”, the defense minister said.

He further made assurances that the Islamic Republic would take necessary steps to pursue the issue through legal channels.

Addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Haley said the missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi movement toward Saudi Arabia on Tuesday “bears all the hallmarks of previous attacks using Iranian-provided weapons” as she pushed the council to act.

She urged the Security Council to punish Iran for what the Trump administration calls its “dangerous violations” of UN resolutions and “destabilizing behavior,” while Russia said dialogue is needed rather than threats or sanctions.

During a press conference on Thursday, Haley appeared standing before parts of a ballistic missile that she claimed Iran delivered to Houthis in Yemen, who then fired it at the Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia last month.

Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Gholam Ali Khoshroo rejected Haley’s claim as “baseless” and said the accusations are aimed at covering up the Saudi war crimes in Yemen with the US complicity.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime for nearly three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

“Iran Holds World Record for Number of Cities Famous for Handicrafts”

Bahman Namvar Motlaq, the deputy head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), says the country holds the world record in terms of the number of registered cities renowned for their handicrafts.

He said five Iranian cities and one village known for their handicrafts have been registered globally, meaning Iran holds the world record in that regard, reports the Persian-language Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Namvar Motlaq noted that many Iranian cities have requested to be registered globally as the global registration of handicrafts can help further develop domestic economy.

He also suggested that a think tank be established to introduce and display works of art and handicrafts.

The Iranian handicraft official made the remarks on Monday in a ceremony to celebrate the global recognition of Marivan, a city in Western Iran, as the world city of Kalash, a traditional type of shoe.

A few weeks ago, Sirjan in Kerman province was also recognized as a world city of rugs. The Kalpourgan village in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province as well as the city of Lalejin in Hamadan province are also considered world centres of pottery.

The megacities of Mashhad, Isfahan, and Tabriz had earlier been registered as global cities of gemstones, handicrafts, and handmade carpets, respectively.

Autumn is a season in which most of the leaves fall from the trees and the branches rattle like old bare bones. It is seen as the time of plenty, a time for hard work, a time when we wistfully watch the year fade into winter. Yet autumn has supernatural associations.

It is the same season which is sometimes praised by its magic, and some call it the “King of the Seasons”.

Here are ISNA’s photos of = beautiful autumn sceneries in Iran’s Isfahan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces:
