Museum of Sound to Open in Iran’s Tabriz

Museum of Sound to Open in Iran's Tabriz

The Museum of Sound will open in the city of Tabriz, the capital of the northwestern Iranian province of East Azarbaijan, marking the designation of the city as the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) capital of tourism in 2018.

Over 300 items related to “sound” will be showcased at the event; reports the Persian-language Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian musician and researcher Hossein Sajedi has collected the items over the past three decades; Mehr quoted the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization as saying.

According to the researcher, not only will the museum serve as a tourist attraction, preserve treasure troves of artworks and promote the lofty status of the Iranian culture; but it can also be used for research and training, as well as reinforcing the country’s cultural pillars to hold back intrusive cultures.

He said music is the common language of all nations around the world, and that is why cultural inroads into other societies and penetration into other nations’ cultural structures are made through music.

The researcher added a whole variety of musical instruments; including strings, percussions and wind instruments, will be put on show at the museum.

Audio files of calls to prayers, holy Quran recitations and other religious and national events will also be displayed at the museum, said the researcher.

Among other items to be showcased in the Museum of Sound are old doorknockers, bells, radios, gramophones, black-and-white televisions, etc., he said.

Dazzling Meteor Showers in Iran’s Skies

A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories.

Most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand, so almost all of them disintegrate and never hit the Earth’s surface. Intense or unusual meteor showers are known as meteor outbursts and meteor storms, which may produce greater than 1000 meteors an hour.

Two meteor showers known as The Perseids and The Geminids mostly happen in December, around the winter solstice, and are more attractive than the others.

They were visible in many parts of Iran in the last days of autumn. The following photos by IRNA have been taken in Vafs village and Meighan Wetland near Arak in Iran’s Markazi Province:

Iran Urges France Not to Fall into Trap of US’ Wrong Policies

Iran-France

“The French are sometimes influenced by the allegations raised by the enemies of the Islamic Republic and those who promote Iranophobia project,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Qassemi urged the European statesmen, particularly the French, not fall into the trap of wrong policies pursued by the US and some of its foolish allies.

He also called on the new French government to understand the significance of Iran and avoid making mistakes to appease certain countries.

Qassemi referred to “certain wrong, illogical, and inappropriate remarks” made by some French officials about Iran and the region during the past weeks, and said Tehran has previously responded to such allegations.

“We certainly have common points in many issues, but there is no doubt that we don’t have the same opinion on certain areas,” he added.

The French foreign minister will soon visit the Iranian capital to discuss bilateral and regional issues, he said.

Qassemi also pointed to the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Iran, and said it is on the agenda of both countries, but no date has been specified for it.

“We welcome the exchange of delegations between Iran and France,” he said, adding that there is no preconditions for Tehran-Paris negotiations.

2018 to Be Safer, More Beautiful Year for All Christians: Iran

In a Monday message, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi congratulated Christians around the world on the advent of the Christian New Year and the birthday anniversary of Jesus Christ.

“I am very pleased to congratulate all Christians and monotheists across the world on the arrival of the Christian New Year,” he noted.

“However, my special felicitations go to the respected Iranian Christian community whose members have, by drawing on the teachings of Jesus Christ, stood by their fellow countrymen through good times and tribulations, and, as an integral part of ran’s glorious culture and civilization, have always striven to further develop and promote the country.”

“Indubitably, hope for further promulgation of Jesus Christ’s message will be a harbinger of a spiritual and progressive world. In a world where war, aggression, poverty and injustice have tightened the noose on nations more than ever before, returning to the thoughts and beliefs of Jesus Christ as a manifestation of tolerance, patience and forbearance will breathe a messianic life into the lifeless body of humanity. We hope this one will not be crucified again,” he added.

Qassemi referred to the “elimination of one of the most reactionary terrorists groups, which was regarded as one the most flagrant manifestations of Wahhabism in the contemporary era,” and said “the world next year will undoubtedly be safer and more beautiful for all Christians of the world.”

“I hope in the year ahead, we will be witnessing further cooperation and rapport on the path to boosting and deepening peace, security and tranquility, and further consolidation of friendships across the globe,” he added.

Europe Won’t Defy US over Iran Nuclear Deal: Analyst

Fouad Izadi, an expert on international relations has, in an interview with the Persian-language Mehr News Agency, weighed in on Europe’s policy vis-à-vis the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In his interview, Izadi said it would not be difficult to find out what measure Europeans will adopt toward the JCPOA as one can analyse their behaviour and actions so far and predict their future course of action.

He said some European officials such as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini make some comments in support of the JCPOA, which is natural as the nuclear deal is a good agreement for the Europeans and Americans. However, he added, the Europeans have not practically stood up to Washington and not drawn a line between their approach and that of the White House, and they do not seem to have any intention of doing so.

The analyst noted that Europe and America are competing with one another over steel trade, and that the Europeans use a different tone and language in dealing with the US when it comes to trade.

“The Europeans threaten the US with a trade war very seriously and harshly. This means the Europeans are working firmly and seriously in domains where they have concerns, but they have not adopted such an approach and not used such a language when it comes to the JCPOA,” said Izadi.

“If the Europeans want to act more seriously vis-à-vis the JCPOA, they should act [with] the same [seriousness] that they used to keep passing anti-Iran laws, and now they should adopt laws at the European Union that would support the European companies cooperating with Iran,” he added.

Under the World Trade Organization rules, he said, Europe can sue Washington. He said the reason is that the US passes laws inside the country and makes others obey them, a trend which is against international regulations and the principle of international independence. He said no country can contravene the sovereignty of other countries and force them to abide by its domestic laws.

Recently, said the analyst, the CIA chief was asked about the agency’s strategy toward Iran.

“He (the CIA chief) said the US must keep putting economic pressure on Iran and that Washington has told different European officials about it,” Izadi noted.

The commentator reiterated that such an approach would amount to a violation of the JCPOA as no signatory to the agreement must disrupt the implementation of the nuclear deal.

Izadi said the CIA has also warned European companies against cooperating with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

“So, as you can see, the US has adopted measures and exerted pressure [on European firms] on a large scale, and if Europe really wants to take some practical action regarding the JCPOA, it should reject Washington’s demands.

He said France, which enjoys various economic benefits in Iran with the implementation of the JCPOA, has aligned itself with the US regarding the nuclear deal.

“France has used despicable language and adopted certain measures regarding Iran’s spheres of powers such as the missile domain, and this should be a lesson to all of us,”

Izadi underlined that some people in Iran believed if Tehran signed agreements with European countries, they would change their approach, “but, at least, this has not happened as far as France is concerned.”

“This does not mean that we do not want to work with Europeans or that we want to sever our diplomatic relations with them because their actions are no good reason for us to scale down our cooperation with them. But we cannot hope that they will take practical action and stand up to the US when it comes to the JCPOA. They won’t do that,” he said.

He said Iran should maintain its diplomatic relations with the Europeans and continue its activities in the public diplomacy domain to influence them.

“We should continue and expand our cooperation with small European companies, but we should have no expectation of European governments,” he noted.

He said Iran cannot pin its hopes on European governments. Izadi noted Iran needs to do more in the diplomacy arena and take more serious action in order to better advance national interests.

“Judiciary Delegation Pays Regular Visits to Iran Jails”

Ejei

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Sunday, Mohseni Eje’i said during the current Iranian year, the Judiciary system has taken seriously the issue of visiting jails across Iran and some of the temporary detention centres under the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran

“The courts have been ordered to oversee the detention centres. The court officials hold talks with the prisoners to get familiar with their legal problems,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by the Tasnim News Agency.

He went on to say during the visits, judiciary officials including judges, investigators, deputy prosecutors and prosecutors tried to establish a close contact with the prisoners and hear their problems.

“Some of the prisoners who were not legally required to stay in jails were provided with an opportunity to leave the jail and follow up their legal case outside.”

Mohseni Eje’i added, “I have received reports saying that all jails across Iran have been visited at least once in the current Iranian year.”

He noted that in Tehran province, the judiciary delegation held talks with 1,500 prisoners.

Mohseni Eje’i expressed hope that the visits keep going on in future saying they are useful for the officials in charge to get in direct touch with the conditions of jails across Iran.

The judiciary official also referred to the close contact that the Judiciary has established with the people and added over the past eight months and half, about one million people made phone contacts with the public relations of the Judiciary.

He concluded that the Judiciary makes use of the suggestions made by the people to improve its mechanisms.

“If Yemen’s Missiles Were Iranian-Made, Tehran Would Announce It Proudly”

Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, the spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the Saudis should know if the Iranian missiles were at the disposal of Yemen’s army and people, the conditions of war would have been different.

The Iranian MP also added that the Saudis must be held accountable for the bombardment of Yemeni people and say which countries have given them these weapons to kill Yemenis.

According to Farsi report by ICANA, Naqavi Hosseini reiterated that Tehran has repeatedly announced the Yemeni army and people are backed by Iran, and at the same time it has frankly declared that Tehran did not give any missiles to Yemenis.

His comments came after US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley stood amid missile fragments at a military base in Washington on December 14 to show what she called proof that Iran is supplying Houthis in Yemen with weapons in “absolute and undeniable violations” of UN resolutions.

Charts and photographs were on display next to the missile parts, which were provided by Saudi Arabia. They showed, Haley claimed, that the weapon fired at the main airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Nov. 4 was an Iranian-made Qiam ballistic missile.

Iran has dismissed the claims saying that it is a fabricated show by Washington and its allies to play a blame game in order to distract public opinion from their own brutal crimes.
