Iran Deploys Commandos to Rescue Its Missing Seafarers in China

Iran Deploys Commandos to Rescue Its Missing Seafarers in China

The Iranian Army Spokesman, Brigadier General Shahin Taqikhani said airborne commandos will start the extremely dangerous operation on the burning oil tanker if China provides them with a chopper.

Referring to the process of rescuing the seafarers on the Iranian oil tanker in the waters of China, Taqikhani told the Fars News Agency in a Farsi interview that after the tragic incident for the Iranian oil tanker and the seafarers, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s army immediately announced readiness for any assistance by sending capable people with special skills.

“To do this, it was necessary to make coordination with various organizations including the foreign ministry. A team of army’s special naval forces composed of 12 commandos, who have received special training for these conditions, have been deployed to China and they are now in Shanghai.”

He added that if the Chinese military gives the necessary instructions and provides the team with a copter, they will do their best to rappel into the tanker to help the seafarers.

Taqikhani also stressed that everyone knows this is a very difficult and dangerous task, but if helicopters are handed over by the Chinese army and they take the risk of taking this action, then the rangers may rappel from high altitudes.

“An official from Iran’s army also held a meeting with military attachés of China and Japan in Tehran Friday afternoon and voiced the concerns of Iranian families and called on them to accelerate the process of assisting,” he noted.

Taqikhani said the military attachés of China and Japan also announced their armies’ readiness for any kind of assistance saying that they have forwarded the request of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the authorities.

Dozens of seafarers are missing from an NITC tanker after it collided with a bulk carrier off Shanghai on Saturday evening.

The collision between the Panama-registered, 164,154 dwt, Sanchi, owned by Iranian tanker company NITC, and the Hong Kong-flagged 75,725 dwt bulker CF Crystal took place around 8 PM on Saturday around 160 km east of the Yangtze River, according to China’s Ministry of Transport.

The tanker Sanchi reportedly capsized and caught fire following the collision. The bodies of three crew members from the vessel have been found while the other 29 seafarers from the tanker remain missing. The tanker had a crew of 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshi nationals.

The Sanchi was carrying 136,000 tonnes of oil condensate from Iran to Korea, while the bulker had a cargo of 64,000 tonnes of grain.

Positive News Can Boost People’s Morale: Psychologist

Reza Bafti, a psychologist and family counsellor, has weighed in on the impact of media coverage on people’s morale expressing that the morale of the people, who usually follow the events in the newspapers or the media, is undermined and after a long period of time their minds will be in crisis.

“At times, we see that the media focus only on the dissemination of worrying news and killings, which can increase the stress and depression in society,” Bafti said in a Farsi interview with Fars News Agency.

He stressed that if a study is conducted on the news published in the media, we will find out that the number of negative and stressful news is very high, which can unconsciously do mental and psychological harm to people.

“One’s behaviour is formed by a chain of behaviours.

For example, imagine that in the morning, after leaving the house and in a taxi we hear a piece frustrating news on the radio.

Hearing this news may lead to our improper behaviour towards our colleagues during the day at work.”

“Looking into the psychosocial behaviours and problems of individuals, we find out that a person has heard a negative message over a period of time that it has struck Cymbalta with physical blows,” he added.

Bafti also explained that people are naturally willing to hear good news, but the mood of the Iranians is different from the normal level, and hearing negative news can affect these people more than others.

“People following sports or political news get excited, but the excitement and joy of those who follow sports news is more.

This is while those who are more in touch with political news are more stressful.”

He highlighted that the publication of news with a sense of humour could lift people’s spirit towards joy, adding that it is necessary for the media to make more efforts in the hope of creating cheerfulness in their stuff.

Bafti also pointed out that a policy should be put in place by the media in order to bring joy to the people of a community.

“We must also know that society does not move automatically towards joyfulness and that plans must be made in this regard.”

The psychologist concluded that the publication of literary, poetical, and comic papers has declined considerably, and it is a must to pay more attention to these social needs.

Iran, Italy Sign €5 Billion Investment Deal

Iran, Italy Sign €5 Billion Investment Deal

The accord will open lines of credit to two Iranian banks namely Khavar Mianeh (Middle East) Bank and Sanat va Madan Bank (Bank of Industry and Mine) by Invitalia Global Investment, an Italian state-owned holding, in order to finance investment projects by Italian companies.

According to a Farsi report by IRNA, it is also possible that other Iranian banks would join the agreement.

The construction and production projects of the country, which are run using technology, machinery or engineering services of Italy, can use this finance investment.

Also, all of the public and non-governmental sector projects that have been approved by the relevant organizations and have obtained relevant licenses can take advantage of this facility.

Following the signing of agreements with India, China, South Korea, Denmark, Austria and Russia in recent months, Italy is the seventh country with which a finance agreement is sealed.

Italy is Iran’s major trade partner in the European Union. Latest Eurostat data show that with more than €2.58 billion worth of purchases, Italy was the main export destination for Iranian products during the 10 months to Oct. 31, 2017.

The figure shows a 315% hike compared with the corresponding period of 2016.

The European country was also the second biggest exporter to Iran among other EU member states during the period after Germany, as it shipped €1.38 billion worth of commodities to Iran, up 14.5% year-on-year.

Iran’s top five exported commodities were mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation, bituminous substances and mineral waxes worth an aggregate of €2.323 billion, iron and steel worth €124.2 million, organic chemicals worth €32.6 million, plastics and articles thereof worth €15.9 million and articles of iron and steel worth €14.3 million.

Iranian, Belgian FMs Call for Enhanced Bilateral Ties

During the Thursday talks, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral relations between Iran and Belgium, particularly in the economic field.

Zarif and Reynders also underlined the necessity of tapping into the existing opportunities and the capabilities of the two countries for expansion of mutual cooperation, especially in the fields of transportation and transit.

The Belgian top diplomat urged on all parties to the Iran nuclear deal to fully implement the JCPOA.

The two sides further conferred on regional issues and called for accelerated efforts to find political resolutions to the existing crises.

They also highlighted the need for preventing attempts by certain Europe-based elements to incite violence.

Iran Deal Unique Achievement of Multilateral Diplomacy: EU

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif conferred on the Iran nuclear deal in a joint meeting with his French, British, and German counterparts and the EU foreign policy chief in Brussels.

During the Thursday talks, the top diplomats exchanged views on the measures required under the current circumstances to guarantee the continued implementation of the nuclear deal and commitment of all parties to it.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, and German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel all emphasized the commitment of their respective governments to the implementation of JCPOA as a unique achievement of multilateral diplomacy.

Zarif also held separate meetings with his British and German counterparts and EU’s Mogherini to discuss issues of mutual interest.

Following the meetings, Zarif said in a post in his Twitter account that there was “strong consensus in Brussels today” on Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA and the Iranian people’s right to all its dividends.

The European top diplomats also agreed that “any move that undermines JCPOA is unacceptable,” Zarif added.

“E3 and EU fully aware that Iran’s continued compliance [is] conditioned on full compliance by the US,” he added.

The Iranian foreign minister, who arrived in Brussels after a short stay in Moscow, earlier discussed the nuclear deal in separate meetings with his French counterpart in the Belgian capital and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the Russian capital.

Iran Issuing E-Visas for Nationals of 180 Countries

In an address to the opening ceremony of Qeshm airport’s office of electronic visa, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi underlined that foreign passengers visiting Iran can receive their visas after arriving at Qeshm airport without any need for referring to Iranian embassies and consulates in their own countries.

The foreign passengers can also submit their visa applications at the Iranian foreign ministry portal and receive a tracking code in a short message on their cell phones, he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by IRNA.

He went on saying with the tracking code the passengers can receive their visa at Qeshm airport within 20 minutes.

The Iranian official also said by establishing the office, the Iranian government has prepared the grounds for attracting further foreign tourists and investments.

“Medical, tourist and other types of visas in the same class are issued electronically at Qeshm airport for half the cost of other visas,” he noted, adding that Qeshm officials can take advantage of the new facilities to attract medical tours to the southern island.

Each week, on average between 140 and 170 flights are carried out through Shiraz, Esfahan, Mashhad, Tehran and Dubai lines by Zagros, Qeshm Air, Me’raj, Iran Air, ATA, Aseman, Taban, Kish, Mahan and Sepehran airlines. It is expected the number will increase by 25 percent in near future.

He finally called for taking advantage of the tourist capacities of Qeshm Island saying some 80 percent of the tourist attractions of Qeshm are unknown even for the Iranians.

Iran FM, Top European Diplomats Discuss JCPOA in Brussels

Zarif, who arrived in Brussels after a short stay in the Russian capital of Moscow, held talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, and EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on the nuclear deal.

Earlier on Thursday, Zarif held a bilateral meeting with Le Drian. During the talks, Zarif highlighted the need for all parties to the JCPOA to implement their commitments under the deal.

The Iranian top diplomat also called on European countries to play a more active role in this regard.

Le Drian, for his part, underlined the significance of JCPOA implementation and France’s resolve in this respect.

The two sides emphasized the importance of stability and security in the region and the need for peaceful resolution of regional crises through dialogue and political consultation.

The French FM also thanked his Iranian counterpart for inviting him to visit Tehran, and stressed that he will make the trip soon.

An EU diplomat says the aim of these meetings between Iranian and European diplomats is to send a message to Washington that Iran is complying with the terms of the deal.

Enemy Failed to Incite Sedition in Iran: IRGC Chief

Mohammad-Ali Jafari

Speaking in a ceremony on Thursday, General Jafari said, “What was proven in this sedition (the recent riots and unrest in Iran) was the enemy’s embarrassment because the enemies failed despite extensive planning to trigger the third [wave of] local sedition against the Islamic Republic, and that was because of Iranian people’s 40-year resistance.

According to a report by the Persian-language Fars News Agency, the general said Iranians, some of whom had even staged protests over the economic problems they had, drew a line between themselves and rioters as soon as they found out that anti-revolutionary elements and hypocrites were cashing in on the situation.

“Many of those who had taken to the streets in the early days to express their objection over their livelihood situation staged mass [pro-establishment] rallies in recent days to condemn the anti-revolutionary moves, which sows the Iranian nation’s prudence and faith,” General Jafari underlined.

He further said that the enemy is planning to mount an economic war and impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The top commander urged officials to redouble their efforts to protect low-income families against economic pressures and solve their economic problems.
