Iraqi PM Praises Iran for Participation in Iraq’s Reconstruction

During the Wednesday meeting held on the sidelines of the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq in Kuwait, Prime Minister Abadi said the Islamic Republic of Iran played a significant role in fight against ISIS and liberation of the Iraqi territory from the menace of terrorists.

He also described as important and praised the participation of Iranian companies in the reconstruction of Iraq and launching construction projects in the country.

For his part, the Iranian foreign minister said as in the past years during which Iran stood firmly by the Iraqi government and nation in fight against terrorists, it will not spare any effort to work with the Iraqi government for the country’s reconstruction today.

He went on to say that Iran views Iraq as an important political and economic partner.

“Given the interest of the Iranian people and companies in playing a role in Iraq, we hope the relations between the two sides, especially in economic and commercial fields, would grow considerably,” he added.

The three-day International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq came to an end on Wednesday. Tens of donor countries, including Iran, and around 2,000 organizations attended the conference to announce financial contributions at the meeting.

17 People Killed in Shooting at Florida High School (+Video)

The suspect was identified as Nikolaus Cruz, a former student who had been expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland for disciplinary reasons, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.

He said at least 14 other people were injured in addition to the 17 people killed.

Officials believe the gunman had one AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle, but it was unclear whether he had any other weapons. The gunfire began outside the school and continued inside, where 12 of the victims were killed, Israel said.

Cruz was taken into custody off campus about an hour after he “committed this horrific, detestable act,” Israel said. Federal and local authorities told NBC News there was no indication that he had an accomplice or accomplices.

Parkland, in north Broward County, is about 30 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. The shooting on the sprawling campus happened despite the presence of police officers at the school.

The bodies have returned home after China received the DNA samples taken from the families of the doomed vessel’s crew.

Sanchi, with 32 people -30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis- on board, collided with a Chinese freight ship in the East China Sea on January 6 and caught fire after a huge explosion.

The Panama-registered tanker was carrying 136,000 tons of condensate, an ultra-light crude that is highly flammable, to South Korea.

It sank on January 14 after the spread of fire to new oil condensate tanks created blazes as high as 100 meters and increased temperature to 350 degrees Celsius (660 degrees Fahrenheit).

The enemies are making considerable efforts to harm the Iranian nation’s unity and solidarity, but all their plots have always been neutralized thanks to the guidelines of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the prudence of Iranians, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Tuesday.

He added that despite hostile acts by the global arrogance, “the Islamic Republic is still continuing its path with strength and dignity.”

The most important goal of enemies is to create insecurity across Iran; however, Shiite and Sunni Muslims are making joint efforts to boost the country’s security, the IRGC commander said.

During a recent meeting in Tehran with a number of officials in charge of a martyrs’ congress in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Ayatollah Khamenei has lauded the strong unity among Iran’s Shiite and Sunni Muslims despite all enemy attempts to sow discord among them.

Ayatollah Khamenei further called for vigilance among Muslims against divisive enemy schemes.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jafari pointed to the eight-year war imposed by Iraq with the backing of major global powers and said, “The biggest achievement of this war was that other nations accepted that they can stand up to the global arrogance’s bullying.”

He emphasized that Iran has also countered the cultural, political and economic aggression of the global arrogance aimed at harming the Islamic Revolution.

“Enemies of the Islamic Revolution tried to create distrust among the [Iranian] people of the Islamic establishment through the imposition of economic pressure and sanctions and the creation of certain economic problems but this plot was also thwarted through the vigilance of the people,” the IRGC commander said.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in January the Islamic Republic’s security and stability depend on its own people, adding that “infiltrators” will not be permitted to violate the rights of the Iranians.

“Iran’s security and stability depend on its own people, who — unlike the peoples of [US President Donald] Trumps regional “bffs”—have the right to vote and to protest,” Zarif said in a post on his official Twitter account.

Iran, Europe Confer on Promotion of Bilateral Ties

During the Wednesday talks, McAllister once again underlined the EU’s support for the Iran nuclear deal.

Sarmadi, for his part, appreciated the stances held by the EU in support of the JCPOA, and said the European Union should back the nuclear deal in a more practical and tangible way in defiance of the parties who try to bring an end to the accord.

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy in the region is based on fight against terrorism and establishment of stability and security.

Sarmadi referred to the developments in Yemen, and highlighted the need for the EU’s serious support for the innocent people of Yemen against the massive airstrikes of aggressors on this country

Also at the meeting, the two sides conferred on various aspects of relations between Iran and the European Union, and welcomed the expansion of reciprocal parliamentary ties.

Earlier in the day, McAllister also held talks with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the Chairman of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, in Tehran.

During the meeting, the European lawmaker conveyed both the EP and the EU’s all-out support for the implementation of the nuclear agreement, known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Europe, he said, considers the JCPOA to be a useful document which promotes international peace and stability, and supports its full implementation by all signatories.

While trying to enhance common understanding, he said, the MEPs have traveled to Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials about issues of common interest as well as regional and international challenges, he said.

Iran FM, Kuwaiti Emir Discuss Regional Issues

During the Wednesday talks, the Kuwaiti Emir said the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a key role in fighting the ISIS terror group and contributing to Iraq’s stability and economic development, and appreciated Iran’s assistance.

The Kuwaiti leader also expressed hope that all the problems and differences between Middle Eastern countries will be resolved through prudence and dialogue among regional states.

Zarif, in turn, hailed efforts made by the Kuwaiti Emir to mediate in the current crises in the region, and expressed hope those attempts will bear fruit.

The two sides also stressed the need to enhance mutual relations and increase contacts between top officials of both countries.

The meeting was held during the top Iranian diplomat’s stay in Kuwait to attend an international conference on the reconstruction of Iraq.

Saudi Tribesmen Not Allowed to See Their Wives’ Faces

Based on a tribal custom, even women are banned from seeing each other’s faces.

“In these tribes, women allow no one, even their next of kin, husband and other women to see their faces because it amounts to a scandal for them,” a Farsi report by Mashregh News Agency said, quoting Al-Arabiya news website.

Reports say an attempt by a woman from one of these tribes to see the face of her female friend just for fun ended up in a fierce quarrel between them.

A man, who has married a woman four years ago and has three children, says, “Once I saw the face of my wife, she fiercely blamed me for violating our tribe’s custom and filed for divorce.”

In an interview with Al-Arabia, another man who is married for seven years says when her wife died in a car crash, he couldn’t go to hospital for body identification. “I couldn’t identify her because I’d never seen her face in my life.”

Ali Qahtani, another man from these tribes, says when he once tried to remove her wife’s burqa – the garment that covers the entire head except the eyes – by force, she threatened to leave him forever.

Hassan Al-Atibi also says her wife prefers to have a co-wife instead of removing her burqa.

“In reaction to my request for removing her burqa, she introduced one of her friends to me for marriage,” he said.

Kazakhstan Cultivating Persian Rice to Meet Iran’s Needs

Farmers from Karmakshy municipality of Kyzylorda region are now working on an 800-acre land to grow Tarom Hashemi rice which is originally grown in Iran.

“The farmers of the region had a good harvest last year and produced nearly 6 tonnes of rice in each acre,” Makashev Sultan Iskakovich, the governor of Karmakshy, was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by IRNA.

He went on to say the municipality now aims to increase its rice export capacity. “To this effect, we have developed a plan this year to increase Tarom Hashemi rice production by ten times.”

Makashev said given the fact that the price of Tarom Hashemi rice is appropriate, many farming units in Kazakhstan have become interested in growing this variety of rice.

According to the governor, the municipality has already established a workshop with a capacity to cleaning 120 tonnes of rice. “Last year, the farmers of the region grew Tarom Hashemi rice in a 70-acre land and made an abundant harvest.”

Back in 2016, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Iran and signed 37 Memoranda of Understanding with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani. These MoUs included an agreement on expansion of agricultural cooperation between the two sides, especially in extraterritorial cultivation of agricultural products.

Iran’s Police Makes 90 Arrests to Control Forex Market (+Video)

Iranian police forces on Wednesday swooped on foreign currency exchange businesses, closing down 10 exchange facilities and apprehending 90 forex dealers working in the street on charge of disrupting the foreign currency market.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Central Bank of Iran, which is under fire for the unprecedented growth in the rates of foreign currencies, particularly the US dollar.

Tehran Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said police forces are maintaining a permanent presence in the foreign currency business district in Tehran and will not allow profiteers to capitalize on the situation.

He noted that a high-profile figure dealing in foreign exchange was arrested in the raid.

The development comes as the value market of foreign currencies, especially the greenback, has been rising in the Iranian market recently. Some experts say the rising prices are just a bubble that could soon burst.

The government also says the rise in prices could be psychological and could emanate from citizens’ unwarranted concerns. It says the dollar rate, which currently stands at around IRR 50,000, is surging due to psychological reasons rather than economic factors.
