Kashan Home to World’s Most Beautiful Iranian Bathhouse

Beautiful Iranian bathhouse, Kashan

This Iranian bathhouse was built in the 16th century, during the Safavid era. The bathhouse is named after Imamzadeh Sultan Amir-Ahmad, whose mausoleum is nearby.

Sultan Amir-Ahmad Bathhouse, with an area of around 1,000 square metres, consists of two main parts: the dressing hall and hot bathing hall.

The interior of the bathhouse is decorated with turquoise and gold tilework, plasterwork, brickwork, as well as artistic paintings. The roof of the bathhouse is made of multiple domes that contain convex glasses. They provide sufficient lighting to the bathhouse while concealing it from the outside.

IRGC Chief Praises Film about Fight against ISIS

In a message on Tuesday, General Jafari congratulated Iranian filmmaker Ebrahim Hatamikia on receiving the Best Director Award at Fajr Film Festival for his latest film “At Damascus Time”.

The congratulatory message came after a controversial speech by the prominent director at the closing ceremony of the 36th Fajr Film Festival. In response to certain critics who described Hatamikia as a filmmaker affiliated with the Islamic Establishment, he angrily said in his speech, “I’m an affiliated director! Affiliated with the Establishment (of the Islamic Republic of Iran).”

Experts say making such remarks among a group of people, who claim to be intellectuals, was shocking and very courageous while based on a historical tradition such people believe independence from the Establishment and distancing oneself from the government is an honour!

While most of the winners in the four-hour-long closing ceremony made brief speeches after receiving their prizes, Hatamikia harshly criticised some of his colleagues, the state TV and the host of the ceremony Reza Rashidpour, for downgrading his film and even calling it a comedy. This comes as the movie is about the Holy Shrine Defenders (in Syria) and Iranian military personnel involved in the battles against terrorism in Iraq and Syria.

Hatamikia also thanked the IRGC personnel and the IRGC-affiliated Owj Cultural Organization, which produced his film.

In his Tuesday message, General Jafari hailed the remarks made by Hatamikia saying, “Your stunning and lovely words at the closing ceremony of the Fajr Film Festival indicated your courage, patriotism and devotion. Such statements are made at a time when the enemy is struggling to undermine the Iranian nation’s beliefs.”

“As the commander of the soldiers who have been able to eradicate the ominous phenomenon of ISIS in the region in a short term, I appreciate your efforts and understand the pains you have suffered to give such a brilliant picture (of their devotion), and I wish the other Iranian proficient artists would follow on the same path,” added Jafari.

Hatamikia’s film “At Damascus Time” narrates the story of an Iranian pilot and his copilot son, who are captured by ISIS forces in Syria when they are in the Arab country to deliver a cargo of humanitarian relief supplies to people in a war-ravaged region.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also called Hatamikia’s ISIS drama “peerless”. In a post published on social media he said “It was really unmatched.”

The Fajr Film Festival is Iran’s most important film festival, held every February in Tehran. The festival, started in 1982, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Iran. It takes place every year on the anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The festival has been promoted both locally and abroad through television, radio and webinars.

Contributing organizations to the event include the Farabi Cinema Foundation, Iran film foundation, Press TV, HispanTV and Iran’s multi-lingual film channel IFilm (TV channel). From 2015 on, the festival has been separated to a national festival in February and an international one in April, with the national one being the more notable for premieres of the most important Iranian movies.

Iran’s Persepolis Creams Uzbekistan’s Nasaf in AFC Champions League

On Tuesday evening, the Iranian soccer players succeeded to defeat the Uzbek side 3-0 at the end of a Group C fixture played at the Azadi Stadium in western Tehran.

Persepolis soccer players opened the match with vim and vigor, and approached their opponents’ goal on a number of occasions.

Persepolis 28-year-old Nigerian footballer Godwin Mensha took advantage of an ideal opportunity in the 20th minute, and headed home Vahid Amiri’s cross from the right flank to put his side on the scoreboard.

After the interval, Persepolis striker Ali Alipour collected a pass from right-back Sadegh Moharrami. He unleashed a shot into the top corner from inside the box in the 66th minute to double his red-clad side’s lead.

Alipour added his second of the match five minutes later, when he received a pass from Mohammad Ansari and drove it low with his left into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Esteghlal, Al-Rayyan share points in AFC Champions League

Meanwhile, Iranian professional football club Esteghlal Tehran has earned a two-all draw against Al-Rayyan Sports Club of Qatar in Group D of the AFC Champions League.

Al Rayyan captain Rodrigo Tabata opened their own goal just seven minutes into the match at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital city of Doha.

Iran's Persepolis Creams Uzbekistan's Nasaf in AFC Champions League

Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah scored the equalizer in the 18th minute, and Captain Rodrigo Tabata put Al-Rayyan in front shortly afterwards.

Tabata committed a dangerous tackle on an Esteghlal’s player in the 80th minute, and was subsequently sent off.

Ali Ghorbani was on target in the 88th minute, and bagged a point for the Iranian team.

Russia Luring Iranian Airlines to Buy Sukhoi Superjet

The move is part of an attempt by the Russian company to find customers in Iran for its passenger jet.

Secretary of Association of Iranian Airlines Maqsoud Asadi Samani said Sukhoi has made the latest changes to Superjet-100, and there is no limitations in selling the aircraft to Iran as less than 10 percent of the jet’s components are US-made.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a fly-by-wire twin-engine jet with 8 to 108 passenger seats.

In the initial wave of aircraft orders, which followed the lifting of most international sanctions on Iran in January 2016, the country’s airlines placed tens of billions of dollars’ worth of business with the US’ Boeing and its main European rival, Airbus. Smaller orders were also placed with another European firm, turboprop-maker ATR.

However, while 11 ATR planes had been delivered by the end of 2017, the arrival of the larger jets from Airbus and Boeing is taking much longer, with just three Airbus deliveries to date and none from Boeing.

Turning to Russian-built jets may help to solve these issues. Iranian officials say that any deals to buy the Superjet-100 will not need the approval of OFAC as the plane has little in the way of US-made components.

Austria Ready to Provide Finance for Iran’s Mountain Tourism

Speaking in a meeting on Iran-Austria joint investments in Iran’s mountain tourism, Austrian embassy’s Commercial Counselor in Tehran Christoph Grabmayr said his country is well-known for its investments in tourism across the world.

“Iran enjoys a rich culture and history. Meanwhile, the Iranians’ hospitality is highly attractive for foreign tourists,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by IRNA.

He then expressed hope that, as announced officially, Iran would be able to attract 20 million foreign tourists by the next seven years.

“Due to our interest in Iran’s mountain tourism and Austrian companies’ experiences in this field, we are ready to provide finance for mountain tourism in Iran,” he noted.

 

Iran Facilitates Foreign Investment

Addressing the same gathering, Saeed Ohadi, Deputy for Investment and Planning of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), said in a meeting held earlier between senior officials of Central Bank of Iran and Austrian officials, the two sides decided to establish a line of credit and allocate parts of the credit to the joint project between Iran and Austria in mountain tourism in Iran.

He went on to say Iran’s regulations for attracting foreign investments are among the most modern ones in this field, adding the country grants a 10 to 13 year-long tax exemption to foreign investors. “The regulations also permit the investors to legally rent lands for their projects.”

“There are three ski resorts within a 45km radius of Tehran: Dizin, Shemshak and Namak Abrud in which a number of Austrian companies are interested in investing and providing finance for their further development,” he added.

 

Iran Draws Tourists from over 40 Countries

Mohammad Reza Pouyandeh, Head of Iran’s Fund for Revival & Utilization of Historical & Cultural Places, told the same meeting that sport tourism is among Iran’s competitive advantages compared with other tourist destinations in the world.

“Based on figures, over the past 9 months, Iran drew a large number of mountain tourists from 41 countries.”

He said the figure has tripled since last year and added Iranian ski resorts are relatively cheap compared with foreign pistes. “So, we warmly welcome foreign investments in this field.”

Pouyandeh underlined that Dizin ski resort is the largest piste in the Middle East with a 550-hectare land and 17 ski lifts.

“Over the past three years, the resort witnessed a 700-percent growth in attracting foreign tourists. About 6,000 tourists visited the resort only during the last year. By developing our services, we can attract 30,000 foreign tourists within the next 3 to 5 years,” he concluded.

Iran FM, EU’s Mogherini Discuss US Stonewalling on Nuclear Deal

During the Tuesday meeting, the two sides conferred on the Iran nuclear deal, particularly the US’ barriers to its implementation and ways to remove them.

Zarif and Mogherini also exchanged views on the reconstruction of the war-torn Iraq.

The 1.5-hour meeting was held behind closed doors on the sidelines of the Kuwait International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq.

Tens of donor countries including Iran and around 2,000 organizations have attended the conference to announce financial contributions at the three-day meeting.

The meeting is co-chaired by Kuwait and Iraq, as well as the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank.

The Iranian foreign minister described the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq as a significant event and expressed hope regional and global contributions could immediately repair the ruins created by terrorist groups in Iraq.

For his part, Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah thanked the Islamic Republic for its participation in the conference and said the problems among regional states and neighbours should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic means.

Iranian Woman Breaks Mideast’s Long-Distance Swimming Record

Mahnaz Karimi, hailing from the southern province of Khuzestan, swam for 25 hours in a swimming pool in Ahvaz.

She swam non-stop from Saturday to Sunday treading water with hands up, a Fars report by the Asr-e Iran news website said.

With this record, Karimi managed to break the record of long-distance swimming in Iran and the Middle East. Karimi has increased her earlier record in this class of swimming by 12 hours.

Before her, another Iranian female swimmer, Akram Qorbani, had set a 20-hour record in long-distance swimming with her hands closed. By doing so, she had set a new record in Iran and the Middle East for long-distance swimming.

In an interview with Asr-e Iran, Karimi said, “I’m happy to set my fifth record in long-distance swimming.  To do so, I made very hard efforts. My main motto in life is where there is a wish, there is a way. I believe, with hard efforts, we can achieve whatever we wish.”

In response to a question whether or not Ms. Qorbani will break her new record, she said it goes without saying that Qorbani will do her best to do so. “I’m not worried about it. There are many champions in our country and I’m sure that new records would be set.”

Touching on her decision to register her record at the Guinness World Records, she said to do so, one has to spend about $20,000.

“So far, I don’t have such money. If there is a sponsor, I will seriously follow up the issue to have my new record registered.”

US Prisoners in Iran Convicted of Espionage: Lawmaker

Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, touched on the White House’s request for establishing a hotline between Iran and the US for talks over the fate of two sides’ prisoners, and said the legal conditions of the prisoners in the US and Iran are totally different.

“The Iranians kept in the US prisons have been jailed on baseless accusations with no legal justifications,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi interview with ICANA.

However, he added, the American prisoners in Iran have different conditions. “First of all, their first nationality is Iranian. And, second, they have been convicted of spying.”

He said the US officials have implicitly acknowledged that the prisoners have served as spies for them.

Stressing that the Trump administration has shown it is not a reliable partner for negotiation, Jamali Nobandegani urged Washington to release the innocent Iranians as soon as possible.

“Any talks over the fate of two sides’ prisoners need to be approved first by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.”

Even if approved, he added, Iranian negotiators should first hold the US accountable for its violations of their commitments under the Iran nuclear deal.

US officials say they have sent a message to Tehran through their special channels back in December and called for establishing a hotline for talks over the two sides’ prisoners.

Two months on and despite Washington’s three other proposals for talks on the prisoners’ fate, the Islamic Republic of Iran has not shown any reaction.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this is the first diplomatic initiative by Trump administration to open talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran over the issue of the two sides’ prisoners.
