IRGC Releases Footage of Encounter with US Carrier

According to the footage, which was part of a documentary aired by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting on Saturday, the speedboats approached the USS Theodore Roosevelt on March 21.

Iran has repeatedly warned that any act of trespassing on its territorial waters would be met with an immediate and befitting response.

The US 5th Fleet is currently deployed in the Persian Gulf with carriers, ships, strike aircraft, sailors and marines and has been involved in occasional confrontations with Iranian forces.

The IRGC in July 2017 reported a second provocation by US warships in the Persian Gulf waters less than a week after a similar incident in the same region.

IRGC Navy said in a statement that “the supercarrier USS Nimitz and its accompanying warship, while being monitored by the IRGC Nay’s missile frigates, flew a helicopter near the Resalat oil and gas platform and approached the IRGC’s ships.”

It came a few days after a similar incident in the northern Persian Gulf, where a US Navy ship sailed toward an IRGC Navy ship, which was patrolling in international waters, and fired two shots into the air.

On January 12, 2016, IRGC Naval forces arrested ten US Marines after their patrol boats entered Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The following day, the IRGC announced that the Marines were released after Americans apologized for the incident.

The two US Navy crafts carrying the Marines had drifted three miles into the waters surrounding the Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf. US officials later blamed a navigational problem for sailors’ drifting astray.

Israeli PM Looking for Smokescreen, Iran FM Says

Zarif said in an excerpt of an interview set to air Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Netanyahu’s latest attempt at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he put on show pictures of an alleged Iranian nuclear weapons storage site, was meant to conceal the regime’s own nuclear arsenal.

“He’s just trying to find a smokescreen … Nonsense,” said Zarif of Netanyahu’s accusations.

The top Iranian diplomat said that Netanyahu had repeatedly been proven wrong in his claims about Iran’s nuclear program as shown by recurrent probes of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“He’s been wrong about the previous [allegations] and he’s wrong about this one,” said Zarif, adding, “The previous allegations that Netanyahu made have been investigated by the IAEA and have been rejected.”

Zarif had earlier dismissed Netanyahu’s claims about Iran’s secret nuclear sites, saying in a tweet on Thursday that the Israeli regime was the only entity in the world that had always refused to disclose facts about its nuclear weapons.

Iranian Court Gives Odd Sentence to Prank Caller

Head of the Judiciary of Buin Zahra, a city in Iran’s Qazvin Province, said the sentence was given in line with a regulation to consider alternative punishments for certain convicts.

“The court’s judge issued the verdict based on the ninth chapter of the new Islamic Penal Code approved in 2014 which provides the judges with the authority to issue alternative rulings for certain crimes and offences,” Farhad Ghaffari was quoted as saying in a report by Khabar Online.

Ghaffari said the prank caller was forced to post a placard in public asking for the plaintiff’s forgiveness over the disturbances he had created for them through sending insulting short messages or posting obscene messages on Telegram messenger.

“The prank caller first received a two-year jail term but due to his lack of criminal record and certain individual, social and family conditions, the judge decided to consider an alternative punishment for him,” he said.

According to Ghaffari, the prank caller has pledged not to repeat the move in the future.

“The convict has also been forced to study a book titled ‘House of the Spider’ by Nourollah Ghodrati and summarize its third chapter on the social disadvantages of social media,” he said.

“Meanwhile, he should try to read by heart some quotes by the first Shiite Imam, Imam Ali, and pay a cash fine to the judiciary system for his misconduct,” he said.

Ghaffari referred to alternative punishments as one of the main policies of the Iranian Judiciary over the past years in order to decrease the number of prisoners.

“Fortunately, Qazvin province is among the main provinces across the country which has already taken long strides in this direction.”

Offering social services as a punishment especially for convicts of misdemeanors has become more prevalent in Iran over the past years.

Back in March, a judge ordered offenders to plant more than 10,000 trees if they wanted to avoid spending their time behind bars.

Many believe such verdicts are welcomed by the families of the lawbreakers as they do not like to see their loved ones behind the bars.

Mobile Museum Displays Items for Passengers of Tehran-Tbilisi Flight

The museum, which is also a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is the first of its kind in the country initiated in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.

The initiative is in line with supporting and establishing global peace. It is the first such initiative in the world aimed at helping promote justice in the education sector and giving all children equal access to classes about museums, paying attention to cultural heritage, promoting the culture of peace, raising children’s awareness, establishing a network of supporters of children’s museums at the national and international levels, and establishing a network of international mobile museums of nations’ culture.

“Iran’s mobile museum of peace culture managed by Ms Soosan Nikzad travelled to Tbilisi and began displaying items – such as spoon dolls registered on the country’s list of intangible heritage – during the flight, which was welcomed by passengers en route from Tehran to Tbilisi,” said Mohammad-Reza Pahlevan, the director of the group of museums of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of Khorasan Razavi.

“Earlier, this mobile museum had displayed its items on the Peace and Friendship Train as well as Iran’s first Peace Ship,” he added.

“During this trip, the captain of the flight was awarded a tablet of commendation as the first ‘pilot of peace’,” he noted.

“All child tourists on the flight were also chosen as honourary members of the [group of] messengers of peace culture,” he said.

“The Iranian dolls (the ones registered on the national list of cultural heritage) put on show during the flight were donated to Georgia’s national museum,” he said.

Saudi Arabia Most Notorious Sponsor, Source of Terrorism: Iran

ICJ Ruling Proves US Sanctions against Iran Cruel: Statement

Qassemi made the comment in reaction to remarks by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir at the UN General Assembly where he rehashed baseless allegations against Iran.

“Incontrovertibly, Saudi Arabia is the most notorious supporter of terrorism in the world, and the terrorism that has engulfed the whole world, especially the Middle East, today is rooted in Saudi Arabia and the extremist ideologies promoted and sponsored by this regime,” said Qassemi while rejecting the Saudi foreign minister’s claims.

“Adel al-Jubeir proudly announces his country’s support for [US President Donald] Trump’s strategy of countering multilateralism and ruining international agreements and contracts, and this is not strange because his country (Saudi Arabia) is among the key supporters of the camp affiliated with Trump’s thoughts in the United States,” Qassemi noted.

He said the camp, in cahoots with the Zionist regime’s lobby groups and the United Arab Emirates and by spending millions, or maybe billions of dollars, try to steer the United States’ foreign policy in the path they desire, i.e. warmongering and provoking instability.

Qassemi then touched upon Saud Arabia leading a military coalition that has exposed a Muslim country in the Middle East (Yemen) to an unprecedented catastrophe for five years now.

“That the foreign minister of an aggressor country, which is to blame for the destruction of Yemen and the heinous human catastrophe there, hijacks the forum of the UN, whose charter is based on international peace and security, and that he fuels the flames of extremism, animosity, violence and warmongering, are rooted in the ideology based on which he and the House of Salman have been reared,” Qassemi said.

Al-Jubeir on Friday expressed Riyadh’s backing for the anti-Iran policy adopted by the Trump administration.

Saudi Arabia “supports the new US strategy to counter Iran,” he said in an address to the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Jubeir further denounced what he called Iran’s “terrorist activities and aggressive behaviour” and claimed that achieving peace in the Middle East required “deterring Iran’s expansionist and destructive policies.”

Iran Rejects US Accusations, Justifications for Closing Basra Consulate

Bahram Qassemi

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran censures any attack on diplomats and diplomatic places.

“The ridiculous justification [provided by Americans] for the closure of the US Consulate General in Basra, which came after weeks of propaganda and false allegations against Iran and the Iraqi forces, is a suspicious move aimed at evading responsibility and pinning the blame on others,” noted Qassemi.

Such claims are made while there are numerous overt and covert indications that foreign agents were involved in a recent brutal attack on the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Basra, he noted.

It is clear that such childish justifications by the US are part of its adventurist policies and the White House’s plot to depict Iraq as an insecure country, he went on to say.

He also said the Americans raise such claims in a bid to put pressure on the Iraqi government, which is of course a gross and condemned move.

The US has announced it will close its consulate in Basra and evacuate its diplomats from there after what it called increasing threats from Iran.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo cited on Friday “increasing and specific threats and incitement to attack personnel and facilities” by Iran as the reasons for such a decision. He also warned Washington would “respond promptly and appropriately” to any such attack.

Imam Hussein; Highly Respected by Both Muslims, Zoroastrians in Iran

Rostam Kavousianzadeh, a Zoroastrian eulogist of Imam Hussein, says the Zoroastrians’ special love for and dedication to Prophet Muhammad’s grandson has a historical root and reaches its peak with the beginning of Muharram and the Day of Ashura.

“A person who devoted his life and family to a divine cause and the defence of the oppressed, definitely deserves respect,” noted the Iranian mobad.

According to the Zoroastrian cleric, his family has highly respected Imam Hussein and his children for many years. He also added that every year in Muharram, especially on the days of Tasu’a and Ashura, his family distributes free food among people.

Kavousianzadeh, who runs an office of marriage and divorce registration in Yazd, further noted that no marriage and divorce is registered for Zoroastrians during these days in a move to show respect for the month of Muharram and the Day of Ashura, when Shiite Muslims mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein and his companions.

He also pointed to the importance of preserving unity among Iranians on various issues, noting that Yazd is among the cities in which the followers of various religions including Zoroastrians, Muslims and Jews live peacefully together.

Yazd province has a population of 138,000 people, and about 6,000 of them follow the Prophet of Ancient Iran Zoroaster or Zarathustra. These people mostly live in the cities of Yazd, Taft, Ardakan and Meybod.

The number of Zoroastrians in the world is estimated to be around 150 to 200 thousand, of which about 30,000 people live in Iran. Zoroastrians in Iran have a seat in the country’s parliament, and now one of the 11 members of the Yazd City Council is a Zoroastrian man.

Drinking Dodgy Booze Kills, Poisons 300 Iranians

Some of those going to clinics and hospitals are in critical condition. Kidney failure is the most important condition the victims are suffering from, so much so that at least 52 of those using fake liquor have received dialysis treatment.

Iranians in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Karaj and Bojnourd all came down with severe alcohol poisoning on the same day.

Eleven people died in Bandar Abbas alone. Officials at Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences say the number of those coming to visit medical centres in Bandar Abbas with alcohol poisoning symptoms has dropped since Friday morning, but the death toll could rise as some of those hospitalized at the ICU are in critical condition.

Similar reports were coming in from Karaj and Bojnourd. Two died in Bojnourd and as many in Karaj due to drinking ersatz booze, and a large number of people were hospitalized in the cities with poisoning symptoms. Some of them are not in good condition.

Drinking non-standard alcohol has been declared as the culprit, and police authorities in Hormozgan speak of identifying and arresting 3 people involved in producing and distributing the lethal drinks. So far, no further details are available with regards to the incident.

Two of those apprehended are a couple from Bandar Abbas who had converted their home into a workshop for the production and distribution of alcoholic drinks.

The saga began Wednesday night when a number of citizens in Bandar Abbas went to hospital.

In a short time, a large number of people with poisoning symptoms were hospitalized at the city’s medical centres. The number of those poisoned with alcohol considerably increased from Thursday morning.

The trend continued until Friday morning, said Fatemeh Norouzian, the director of the Public Relations Office of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences.
“All the patients and those who died were aged between 15 and 60,” she said.

Drinking Dodgy Booze Kills, Poisons 300 Iranians“Except for one of them, the rest are residents of Bandar Abbas,” she added.

She says methanol was the cause of the poisoning. She has expressed concern over a possible rise in the number of victims.

“Ten of those affected are in critical condition. Moreover, there are no precise statistics available on how much of the hand-made (fake) liquor was sold,” she noted.

“Most probably, other individuals have also bought the same kind of alcoholic beverage,” she said.

“Although public announcements have been made in Bandar Abbas and across the province, our concern still has not been removed.

Alcohol poisoning also took its toll in the country’s northern provinces, further fueling the already growing concern.

Two lost their lives in Bojnourd and 12 were hospitalized. Four of the victims were in critical condition.

Also in Karaj, two people died of drinking alcoholic beverages and a large number of others were hospitalized.

The top story in all papers today was the latest claim made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address to the UN General Assembly, which was widely mocked by Iranian netizens and media.

Netanyahu claimed there is an undeclared and secret nuclear warehouse in a village called Turquzabad, located in southern Tehran. However, the village’s name is close to a term Iranians use to refer to a place whose name they don’t know, or a “nowhereland”. Many journalists and people even went to the village in southern Tehran and took photos and videos to further ridicule the Israeli premier.

Several papers also covered the EU’s vow to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in order to maintain and facilitate trade with Iran under the US sanctions. Based on the new initiative, the bloc is going to open special channels for payment to/from Tehran as part of its efforts to salvage the Iran nuclear deal.

Iran’s Pavilion Shines at JATA Tourism Expo in Tokyo

The fair, which is said to be the world’s largest tourism trade fair, is held annually during the last week of September in Tokyo’s Permanent Fair Ground known as Big Site.

The Islamic Republic has always participated in the event with the main goal of promoting and introducing Iran’s cultural and historical attractions to the world.

Iran’s booth in the fair was inaugurated in a special ceremony attended by Iranian ambassador to Japan, Morteza Rahmani Movahed. He also met with the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili on the sidelines of the ceremony.

Abbas-Ali Emamiyeh, the representative of Iran in the expo, says the visitors were amazed by the diversity of products and services offered in Iran’s pavilion in the fields of tourism and handicrafts.

He also expressed optimism over the arrival of Japanese and other East Asian tourists in Iran, particularly after the recent devaluation of the Iranian national currency.

This year’s fair was attended by over 1,300 firms from 130 countries including Iran.

Iran’s Touring & Automobile Club along with three other tourism firms represented the Islamic Republic in this year’s fair after receiving required certifications from the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran.

The Japan Tourism Expo 2018 was held from September 20 to 24. The fair was open to industry professionals during the first two days and to the public over the final days.
