National Day of Isfahan Commemorated with Various Events

Over the weekend, more than 600 artists from Isfahan province have been performing at least 100 cultural events – including plays, passion plays (Tazieh), and Naqqali (a form of Persian theatre where stories from Shahnameh are recited).

The three-day events, which started on Thursday, are being held along the streets connecting Imam Ali Square to Naqsh-e Jahan Square with the aim of promoting the culture, art and economy of Isfahan from Seljuk era to Safavid dynasty.

“Millions of dollars have been allocated to the events held in Isfahan to mark the national day,” said Mohammad Eidi, the Head of Cultural, Social, and Sport Organization of Isfahan Municipality.

Mehdi Ahmadifar, a cultural official at Isfahan province, said a miniature biennial and concerts are among other events held on this occasion.

On the other side, Alireza Salarian the representative of Iranian Foreign Ministry in Isfahan province said the ambassadors and mayors of 11 countries and cities pay visits to Isfahan as part of events to mark the occasion.

Back in 2005, a group of experts and representatives of governmental organizations in Isfahan decided to mark November 22 as National Isfahan Day. They chose the day based on historical documents showing that Isfahan was established during this month hundreds of years ago.

In a statement, the group said the day has been chosen based on the fact that Isfahan’s Great Wall was built in November 930s CE by the Daylamites with the aim of protecting the historical city against foreign invasions.

Iran President Urges Muslim Nations to Unite against US, Israel

Addressing the Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, Rouhani said that unity in the Islamic world is not a tactical and short-term issue, but is a strategic matter.

“Words cannot lead to unity, and the enemy is not afraid of unity in word; rather, we should band together in reality and practice, and today, there is no way but to remain united, and you will win over the Zionists and the Americans if you remain united,” said the president.

President Rouhani said the first step towards achieving unity is for all denominations of Islam to recognize one another.

He said if Muslims simply say they recognize one another in word, but do not believe what they say deep inside, “this will get them nowhere.”

The president noted that hegemonic powers wouldn’t like Muslims to remain united and want to sow discord among them.

President Rouhani said Muslims should remain united all the time even if they have no common enemies.

He then took a jab at the Israeli regime for its atrocities against Palestinian people. President Rouhani also criticized the United States for relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds.

“They believe by changing a sign and a building they can take the holy Quds from Muslims, Palestine and the Islamic world. Undoubtedly, such a belief is wrong,” he noted.

He said the West led by the US created the Israeli regime in the Middle East in order to have a base in the region and serve its interests there.

President Rouhani said it is very sad to see crimes are being committed in the name of Islam, and many people are being killed at the hands of those who claim to be advocates of Islam and want to establish Islamic states.

Rouhani further said the United States wants its interests to take priority anywhere in the world, and that it wants other countries to be its slaves.

He underlined that Muslims are not afraid of the enemy.

“We are not afraid of those who join hands and rattled their sabres against Islam,” he said.

He further urged the United States’ puppet governments in the region not to be a yes-man for Washington.

Rouhani said Iran stands ready to secure the interests of Saudi people.

“We are prepared to defend the interests of Saudi people against terrorists and superpowers with all our power, the same way that we are helping the people of Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen.

He also lashed out at Riyadh and its allies for conducting airstrikes against Yemeni people.

Iran, Italy Call for Closer Cooperation

During the Friday meeting, the top Italian lawmaker highlighted the good and age-old relations between the two countries. Fico said he is confident that Iran is a key player in the region and in the international system.

He also touched upon the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He said the US’ withdrawal from the agreement created some problems, but Italy and Europe will spare no effort to preserve the deal and keep the channel for dialogue and diplomacy open.

The top Iranian diplomat, in turn, described Tehran-Rome ties as historical, age-old and good, and conveyed to him the warm greetings of and an invitation from Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

Zarif pointed to the JCPOA and Washington’s unilateral and illegal pullout from the deal, saying the United States’ relentless pressure on other countries is regarded as unusual bullying and breach of the law which will have negative short-term and long-term consequence for the international system.

“We will pass through this phase, but such an approach will create problems for the international system,” said Zarif.

The two sides also discussed the promotion of reciprocal ties, especially in the domain of economy, tackling the existing obstacles, parliamentary cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

In the Friday meeting, Zarif and his opposite number Taro Kono discussed the latest developments in Tehran-Tokyo relations.

Iran Condemns Terrorist Blast, Consulate Attack in Pakistan

In a Friday statement, Bahram Qassemi expressed deep sorrow over the terrorist incident in Pakistan’s northwestern region of Orakzai, which left dozens of innocent people dead or wounded.

He also offered condolences to the Pakistani government and people as well as the victims’ families over the tragic incident.

A bomber drove his motorcycle into a festival at a crowded market in Orakzai, killing at least 25 people and injuring 35 others on Friday.

“It was a blast at the festival that is held every Friday,” said Abbas Khan, the assistant commissioner of the district.

Among the victims were three members of the minority Sikh community and two security officials.

The Iranian spokesman also denounced an attempt to attack the Chinese Consulate General in Pakistan’s Karachi.

He expressed pleasure that the attempt was aborted due to the vigilance and efforts of security forces and police, and that staff members at the diplomatic mission are in full health.

He once again stressed the necessity of serious and collective efforts by all countries to fight terrorism and anti-human moves by terrorist groups.

Three assailants strapped with explosives have attacked the Chinese consulate in Pakistan’s southern city of Karachi, leaving two policemen dead.

The city’s police chief said the attackers were killed before entering the building early Friday.

An exchange of fire erupted between the guards and the gunmen, which also resulted in the “killing two of our constables and critically wounding another,” said senior local police official Javaid Alam Odho.

Iran, Malta Discuss Bilateral Ties in Rome

During the talks, the two sides conferred on the Iran nuclear deal, bilateral relations between Iran and Malta, regional issues including the developments in Syria and Yemen, and other issues of mutual interest.

Earlier in the day, Oman’s deputy foreign minister came to Zarif’s residence and held talks with him on the latest developments in bilateral ties and regional issues.

The Iranian top diplomat arrived in Rome on Wednesday night to attend the Mediterranean Dialogues Conference (MED).

Addressing the forum on Thursday, Zarif stressed that negotiations with the US to save the 2015 nuclear deal are pointless because US President Donald Trump is not trustworthy.

Zarif stressed that the US could not be trusted for any further talks without the required guarantees, something he said was too much to expect from the Trump administration.

Iranian, Swedish FMs Discuss Yemen Peace Talks

During the talks, the two sides exchanged views on a fresh round of Yemen peace talks, which is to be held in Stockholm, and Iran’s efforts to ensure its success.

Earlier this week, the administration of Saudi-backed former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur announced that it would take part in the proposed peace talks in Sweden next month.

The announcement came hours after the chairman of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of Yemen, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, said Ansarullah fighters were halting their retaliatory attacks as a goodwill measure to speed up “peace” process.

United Nations Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths says that he has received “firm assurances” that the warring Yemeni parties would attend talks in Stockholm.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating military campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the aim of bringing the government of Hadi back to power and crushing the country’s Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The Saudi-led war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN has already said that a record 22.2 million Yemenis are in dire need of food, including 8.4 million threatened by severe hunger. According to the world body, Yemen is suffering from the most severe famine in more than 100 years.

Trump’s Insult to Iranians Shows His Stupidity: IRGC Chief

“The US president is so stupid that he directly insults the Iranian nation, and this results from the witlessness and stupidity of the enemies,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Thursday, reacting to Trump who on Tuesday branded Iran a “terrorist nation”.

The commander said while the US government was unable to fight a fire in California, it has been “insanely” supporting its stooges including the Al Saud regime.

Highlighting the US’ waning power and influence in the world, Major General Jafari said Washington’s plot for a so-called Greater Middle East has ended in complete failure.

“While the US sought to expand Israel, the small 4-span regime, from the Nile to the Euphrates,” the commander added, the usurping and child-murderer Israel is now faced with such a situation that it cannot even stand against the people of Gaza.

Expressing an upbeat view of the US failure in its economic war against Iran, Major General Jafari said the analysts and even some American and European officials talk about the US defeat.

In November 2017, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had slammed Trump for calling Iran a “terrorist nation”, saying such a stance indicated Washington’s deep grudge and hostility toward not only the Islamic Establishment, but also the people of Iran.

“This foolish remark (by the US president) shows that not only Americans have enmity with Iran’s leadership and government, but even they hold grudges and hostility toward the very existence of a tireless and resistant nation,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Iran Waives Visa Stamping Rules to Boost Tourism

“In cooperation with the foreign ministry, from today (Thursday) on, ‘e-visa without sticker’ will be issued for foreign tourists and businesspeople willing to visit the beautiful Iran,” said Ali-Asghar Mounesan, the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), in a Thursday tweet.

The move is aimed at “allowing the people of all countries to be able to visit our country without any concern,” he added.

Since 2015, people that have travelled to Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen have faced restrictions when applying for visas to visit the United States. 

In June, Former NATO chief Javier Solana’s online application to enter the US was rejected for having previously travelled to Iran. 

Back in August, Mounesan said the decision will help boost the business of high-end Iranian hotels.

“Despite a 38-percent increase in the number of tourists visiting Iran [early this year] … the number of European visitors has decreased and this has negatively affected the performance of four-star and five-star hotels,” he said at the time.

‘Italian Businesses, Entrepreneurs Keen to Work with Iran’

The meeting was attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the deputy foreign minister of Italy, the chairman of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the deputy head of Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, and the head of the Italian agency responsible for internationalization of the country’s industries.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman of Iran-Italy Joint Chamber of Commerce Rosario Alessandro highlighted the history of Tehran-Rome commercial relations, and hailed the 5-billion-euro trade between the two states, which has turned Italy into Iran’s biggest trade partner in Europe.

He also expressed the hope that his country would be able to maintain its position.

“Italian companies enjoy good grounds for working in Iran, and economic relations between the two sides can be maintained and promoted once certain problems are resolved,” he noted.

Zarif, in turn, underlined the deep historical and cultural relations between the two countries, and said, “One of goals of the Iran nuclear deal was to normalize business relations with Iran, but now we’re faced with the bullying behaviour of the Trump administration, which creates obstacles for other countries of the world.”

“If Americans do not want or are not able to use the business opportunities available in Iran, why on earth are they illegally creating troubles for other countries’ companies which want to cooperate with Iran?! Italian and Iranian companies must take advantage of the great business opportunities of the two countries without any problem,” Zarif said.

He also noted that there are many ways for cooperation between companies of the two countries, which are being paved by the European Union or through bilateral collaborations.

Zarif highlighted the significant role played by the Iranian people as the country’s only asset and backing, and said, “We did not negotiate [to achieve] the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to end up looking for pretexts to leave it.”

“However, if Iranian people feel other parties to the JCPOA do not want or are not able to secure their interests, that will be the basis of our decision. We’ll have different options,” he noted.

At the end of the meeting, managers of several Italian companies expressed their views and asked questions, to which the Iranian top diplomat responded.
