Iran Urges Muslim World to Unite against Islamophobia

In a Friday message, Rouhani strongly condemned the terrorist and racist attack on Muslim worshippers in New Zealand, and described the massacre as a barbaric and painful incident which broke the hearts of all Muslim people in the world, especially the Iranian nation.

“This barbaric crime, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of innocent and defenseless worshippers, is another proof of the need for an all-out fight against terrorism and hate-mongering toward other religions and ethnic groups, and the Islamophobia which is common in the West, and unfortunately fueled by certain Western governments,” Rouhani said.

“This crime indicated that terrorism is still among the important issues of the world, and needs an integrated fight and a united approach by all countries against violence and extremism in any part of the world,” he noted.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is still committed to decisive fight against terrorism and racism, and is sure that, thanks to the unity and solidarity of Muslim people, such blind and aimless plots by the enemies would result in nothing but further disgrace for them,” he added.

Rouhani also called on the international community, particularly Muslim states, to show serious reaction to these anti-human crimes, and “disgrace the overt and covert sponsors of such moves.”

The Iranian president also lashed out at certain Western mainstream media for their “unprofessional” and “inhumane” coverage of the terrorist attack, and described it as another proof of their racist attitude and double-standard policies even towards the lives of human beings.

Earlier in the day, Iranian ambassador to London Hamid Baeidinejad had slammed the Persian service of the BBC for refusing to use the term “terrorist attack” in reference to the New Zealand slaughter.

“In BBC Persian’s view, there is only one criterion for describing an attack as a ‘terrorist’ one, and that’s when referring to attacks carried out against the UK; therefore, a knife crime in London is called a ‘terrorist attack’, but the massacre in New Zealand is just an ‘attack’,” he said in a tweet.

At least one gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 40 during Friday prayers at two New Zealand mosques in the country’s worst ever mass shooting, which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern condemned as terrorism.

The Australian gunman behind the massacre, identified as Brenton Tarrant, broadcast live footage on Facebook of the attack on one mosque in the city of Christchurch, mirroring the carnage played out in video games, after publishing a “manifesto” in which he denounced immigrants, calling them “invaders”.

In his manifesto, Tarrant said he saw US President Donald Trump as “symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose.”

In a Friday phone conversation with Mevlut Cavusoglu, the foreign minister of Turkey which is the rotating president of the OIC, Zarif called for appropriate reaction of Muslim states to this heinous crime.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the New Zealand terrorist attack as well as the Israeli soldiers’ recent insult to Muslims’ mosque in the occupied Palestine, and proposed that the OIC immediately holds an emergency meeting at the level of leaders or foreign ministers.

Zarif had earlier called for an end to Islamophobia in Western countries, saying, “Iranians are deeply shocked and saddened by Christchurch terror today. But we’re not surprised. Banned from travel to the US, and not allowed to abide by our faith if attending French schools, we Iranians know too well what bigotry and hatred of Islam augur.”

West Must Stop Supporting Islamophobia: Iran

In a Friday tweet, Zarif said the Australian attacker’s livestreaming of his massacre of 49 Muslims in a mosque in New Zealand was a result of “impunity in Western ‘democracies’ to promotion of bigotry.”

“Impunity in Western ‘democracies’ to promote bigotry leads to this: Israeli thugs enter mosque in Palestine to insult Muslims; Terrorists in NZ livestream their murder of 49 Muslims,” he said.

“Western hypocrisy of defending demonization of Muslims as “freedom of expression” MUST end.”

In his tweet, Zarif cited a quote by US President Donald Trump who said “I think Islam hates us.”

In his sick manifesto, Tarrant said he saw US President Donald Trump as “symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose”.

The 28-year-old terrorist claimed he chose to use a gun over other weapons because it would spark a debate around the second amendment.

Tarrant added, “With enough pressure the left wing within the United States will seek to abolish the second amendment, and the right wing within the US will see this as an attack on their very freedom and liberty.”

“This attempted abolishment of rights by the left will result in a dramatic polarization of the people in the United States and eventually a fracturing of the US along cultural and racial lines.”

“Meanwhile the 10,000-ton boulder of demographic change rolls ever forward, gaining momentum and possibly destroying all in its path,” he added.

“Eventually, when the white population of the USA realizes the truth of the situation, war will erupt.”

Iran Strongly Condemns New Zealand Terror Attacks

In his Friday statement, Qassemi dismissed the attacks as inhumane and totally brutal.

The spokesman urged the New Zealand government to immediately identify the perpetrators of the racist move, put them on trial and deal with them without any consideration.

“Any terrorist attack carried out anywhere in the world, by anyone, under any pretext and with any motivation must be condemned by all states,” Qassemi said.

“Governments should not allow racist and Islamophobic movements or ideologies to pose a threat against the security and tranquility of the citizens of states across the world,” he noted.

Two attacks targeting two mosques in New Zealand have left nearly 50 people dead. The attacks took place in the city of Christ-church. The assailant was dressed in a military-style uniform.

He randomly shot at people with an automatic rifle at close range. Reports say the gunman was a right-wing extremist with Australian citizenship.

He published a racist manifesto on Twitter beforehand and then live-streamed his rampage.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the attacks as terrorist. Muslim leaders from across the world have condemned the attacks.

IRGC Holds Large-Scale Drone Drills over Persian Gulf

In the combat and assault drill, codenamed ‘Ela Beit ul-Muqaddas-1’ (Towards al-Quds), the IRGC Aerospace Force flew tens of military drones toward a target on a tiny island in the Persian Gulf.

The strike aircraft, including 50 Iranian versions of the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drones, took off from bases as far as a thousand kilometers away from the operation zone to bomb the target.

During the war game, attended by IRGC Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami and Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the 50 Iranian RQ-170 drones and a number of other combat and assault pilotless planes raided a spot on Bani Farur Island in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

All the aircraft in the war game successfully bombed the target at the same time.

In comments on the sidelines of the drill, Commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters Major General Gholam Ali Rashid said the large-scale war game with such a high number of homegrown drones, some of which have reached the target zone from far distances for a precise air raid, should humiliate the US.

In separate remarks, Brigadier General Hajizadeh said the presence of squadrons of drones in the airspace of a small area heralds the rise of new air power in Iran.

He said the drones, belonging to the IRGC units in the provinces of Khuzestan, Bushehr, Fars and Hormozgan, launched the simultaneous air raid on the target on the Bani Farur Island.

The IRGC also employed a number of drones similar to the American MQ-1 Predator, the general noted, describing such a breakthrough as a slap in the face of the US and a reminder that the huge US military spending in the region produces such results.

In December, the IRGC Ground Force launched massive military drills in southern parts of Iran.

Iran’s Armed Forces hold routine military exercises throughout the year.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Back in February last year, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.

“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on February 18, 2018.

US, Israel Doing All in Their Power to Counter Iran: Leader

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with members of Iran’s Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday.

The Leader further underlined the need for a “maximum mobilization of forces in the face of the enemy’s maximum offensive.”

“The enemy, namely the US and the Zionists, has today mobilized all its resources and capabilities against the Iranian nation, while the Westerners and the Europeans somehow exercise enmity against Iran from the sidelines,” the Leader explained.

Referring to the “toughest ever” sanctions imposed by Washington against Tehran, the Leader said, “They (the Americans) have launched a maximum offensive against Iran, but if (in return) we mobilize all our resources and capabilities, we will deal the heaviest blow in US history to that country with God’s blessing.”

The Leader enumerated different approaches that the country can adopt in dealing with enemy threats, saying the Iranians have extensive experience with the methods being used by the enemy camp in its confrontation with the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei cited Washington’s withdrawal in May 2018 from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal as only one of the numerous examples, calling on the country to making use of the new experience it gained when the US reneged on its commitments under the agreement.

“Our real enemy is the US and we will make no mistake in recognizing our enemy,” the Leader stated

The Leader emphasized the need for creativity in facing the enemies, saying the Islamic Republic will hit the enemy where it never thought of if a creative approach is taken against it.

Ayatollah Khamenei received members of the Assembly after it wrapped up an annual meeting focused on major international and domestic issues including the current economic challenges facing the country in the wake of re-imposition of illegal sanctions by the United States.

Attacks on Two Mosques in New Zealand Kill 49

Photo of 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant who identified himself in social media videos as one of the four terrorists behind the March 15 attack on two mosques in New Zealand.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called the Friday shooting “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

Ardern said in a news conference that at least 30 people had been killed at the Deans Avenue mosque and that 10 others had died at Linwood Mosque. More than 20 others who were seriously injured were being treated in the hospital, she said.

The shooting “can only be described as a terrorist attack”, Ardern said.

A number of explosive devices were found attached to vehicles that the police had stopped, according to officials.

They said that four people, including three men and one woman, had been taken into custody. Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia said that one of them was Australian.

A Muslim leader in New Zealand said the attack was especially shocking as it took place during Friday prayers. The police called on mosques nationally to “shut their doors” and urged people to stay away from the mosques until further notice.

A video and manifesto that appeared to be by a gunman involved in the shooting were posted online on the day of the attack.

‘US Biggest Violator of Iranian Nation’s Human Rights’

Bahram Qassemi

In a Thursday statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said while the US administration has a dark record of violating human rights inside and outside of America, in its annual report, it has pointed the finger at the human rights situation of other countries.

“The US administration has always been criticized for violating human rights by many other governments, public opinion, international NGOs, human rights activists and figures, the United Nations and its special rapporteurs and even groups inside the US,” he said.

The points mentioned in the US’ report regarding the human rights situation of Iran are based on politically-motivated, biased and wrong analyses and interpretations of some human rights developments in Iran, Qassemi said.

“The US administration, with its dark and unacceptable human rights record, is definitely not qualified enough to address human rights situation in Iran,” he noted.

The spokesman also underlined that through its unilateralism and certain policies and behaviours which stand in stark violation of international human rights standards as well as its disregard of international court rulings, the human rights reports of the UN rapporteurs and representatives, the US administration keeps resorting to bullying, arrogant and deceitful policies to pursue its politically-motivated goals and exert pressure on independent states to undermine their stability, security and development.

Qassemi then referred to the unilateral sanctions imposed by Washington on the Iranian nation and said the US administration is the biggest violator of the Iranian nation’s human rights.

“By imposing its unilateral, illegal and extra-regional sanctions on Iran, the US administration has spared no effort to violate the human rights of Iranian individuals.”

“Defying all international rights, particularly the international documents on human rights, and disregarding international court rulings and the views of independent international rapporteurs and representatives on human rights, the US administration resentfully insists on stepping up the sanctions and massively and starkly violating the Iranian nation’s human rights,” he noted.

Among other cases of human rights violations by the US administration, one can refer to Washington’s unlimited support for the Zionist regime’s violation of Palestinians’ most basic human rights, arbitrary detention of reporters under completely harsh conditions, sale of various types of cutting-edge weapons to some of its regional allies in the Middle East and backing them in their efforts to destabilize the region and their neighbours, and support for continuation of war on Yemen and aggravating the human crisis in the country, he added.

“Sooner or later, the US administration should be held accountable for its crimes,” he concluded.

In its annual report on human rights in the world, the US State Department singled out Iran, Venezuela and China for what it described as human rights violations.

“The government’s human rights record remained extremely poor and worsened in several key areas,” the report said about human rights situation in Iran.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo alleged that last year, “the regime killed over 20 people and arrested thousands without due process just for protesting for their rights.”

US Officials Fabricate Accusations to Keep West Asia Tense: Iran

Qassemi made the remarks in reaction to the claims made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of CERA Energy Week’s Conference in Texas on Iran-Iraq relations as well as the hackneyed and worthless allegations he made about Iran in a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

“Relations between Iran and Iraq have been established with the [strong] will of two sides’ leaders and at the request of Iranian and Iraqi nations and are totally based on mutual respect and trust and common interests,” Qassemi said.

“Unlike the US’ usual meddlesome policies, neither Iran nor Iraq has sought to impose its own will and demands on the other side,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The spokesman said Iran and Iraq have been neighbours for hundreds of years and will remain so for the next hundreds of years.

“The two sides’ leaders have decided to stand behind each other in hard times,” Qassemi said.

If such a decision and choice annoys American officials, he noted, that does not give them any right to use undiplomatic phrases and gross words when talking about Iran-Iraq ties as two independent states.

American officials make such comments out of their selfish habits and outrage, Qassemi said, adding, however, that Washington’s irritation with Tehran-Baghdad ties is “meaningless”.

The spokesman also referred to Pompeo’s worn-out and invalid remarks in his meeting with the UN secretary general, and said some American officials, influenced by the Zionist lobby groups in the US, have been using whatever in their power to bear animosity against Iran and launch anti-Iran propaganda.

“Instead of launching efforts to stop war in the Middle East, eradicate Takfiri terrorism within the borders of certain US allies, and adopt the policy of contributing to peace and stability in West Asia, the American officials make fabricated and unreal claims and accusations in a bid to preserve the status quo of West Asia and keep it a tense environment struggling with numerous and complicated and seemingly unresolvable crises,” he said.

According to Qassemi, the US has been increasing its arms sales to the region to further raise its revenues at the cost of the deaths of thousands of innocent people, destruction of infrastructure of certain regional states and fanning the flames of long-time and grueling crises among the regional states.
