Iraqi Teams Being Sent to Iran, US to Ease Tension

“Iraq has high-level contacts (with both parties), and its vision is very close to that of the European Union, which seeks to settle the crisis in the region,” Abdul Mahdi said at a weekly press briefing in the capital Baghdad on Tuesday.

“US and Iranian officials have assured us that they do not want to go to war,” he pointed out.

Abdul Mahdi added, “Iraq is in the stage of transferring messages between Washington and Tehran. It tries to defuse crisis between the two sides. It is our responsibility to defend Iraq and its people, and ensure security in the face of the threat of war.”

He went on to say that there were no Iraqi groups that wanted to push towards a war between Tehran and Washington.

The remarks came only two days after Iraq’s state-run news agency reported that a Katyusha rocket had landed in Baghdad’s high-security Green Zone near the huge US Embassy compound without causing any casualties.

Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul, the spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operations Command, told the Associated Press that the rocket fell near Iraq’s statue of the Unknown Soldier, and was being investigated.

In the aftermath of the rocket attack, US President Donald Trump issued a direct threat to Iran on Sunday, suggesting that the Islamic Republic will be destroyed if it attacks his country’s interests.

“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again,” Trump wrote on Twitter. He did not clarify what threats he meant.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in response, warned Trump to avoid threatening Iranians, advising him to try respect as it is the only approach to the Iranian nation, which may bear fruit.

“NeverThreatenAnIranian. Try respect—it works!” Zarif said in a post on his official Twitter account.

The Iranian foreign minister added that the policy of “economic terrorism and genocidal taunts” pursued by Trump would fail to “end Iran.”

“Iranians have stood tall for millennia while aggressors all gone,” he noted.

The top Iranian diplomat emphasized that Trump has been “goaded” by the B-Team and “hopes to achieve what Alexander, Genghis & other aggressors failed to do.”

The hawkish “B-team” is comprised of US National Security Adviser John Bolton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Iran Says Will Never Bow to Bullies

Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that the power of the Iranian nation is so great that the enemies of this nation instantly regret after threatening Tehran and have to declare they are not seeking a war with the Islamic Republic.

“The White House announces that the Iranian people should be afraid of us, but just a few hours later, under the pressure exerted by the Pentagon, the US president had to apologise saying that Washington does not intend to attack Iran,” noted Rouhani, describing it as a sign of the Iranian nation’s power.

At a ceremony to launch some projects in West Azarbaijan Province, Rouhani added that, of course, the conspiracy of the enemies created problems and put pressure on people, but these pressures could not defeat people.

“The leaders of the White House wanted to take Iran’s case to the Security Council and impose global sanctions against our country, but the vigilance of the Iranian nation, who refused to withdraw from the deal, foiled their plot.”

He argued that encouraging other members to withdraw from the JCPOA was another plan of the Americans but they could not have any of these countries next to themselves and failed in this conspiracy.

“At the end of the day, the US had to pull out of the deal and break its promises,” underscored Rouhani.

“The United States remained isolated regarding this as well, and this is one of the historical honours of the Iranian nation.”

Pointing out that the White House was seeking support from the United Nations and international organisations against Iran, the president said, however, the Islamic Republic condemned the United States at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and it is considered a major success in the history of country’s legal affairs.

Elsewhere in his remarks, President Rouhani noted that the current US stance is a crime against humanity, because they have stopped purchase of medicine, food, and treatment of patients.

He further maintained that the US does not want to wage a war against the Iranian government, but their target is a great nation; however, Washington will again be defeated and regretful.

“They sought to prevent the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic revolution, but Iran is now stronger than ever and will be remembered in history for many centuries.”

Rouhani also pointed to the influence of four groups, including the Zionists, extremists inside the United States, reactionaries in the region, and anti-Iran groups, stressing that these advisers are cheating the White House to achieve their own goals.

US President Donald Trump has said he does not want a war with Iran amid rising tensions between the two countries. In a meeting on Wednesday Donald Trump told aides he did not want the US pressure to turn into a conflict.

The US has deployed warships and planes to the Persian Gulf and withdrawn diplomatic staff from Iraq in recent days.

The latest tension came after Iran suspended parts of its commitments under the 2015 international nuclear deal, and threatened to resume production of enriched uranium.

Washington unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal last year and imposed new sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iran Dismisses Canada’s ‘Surprising’ Accusations

Mousavi said on Tuesday the anti-Iran allegations also indicated that the Canadian government is deliberately neglecting the realities.

He further underlined that the government of Canada has taken unlawful and unconventional measures against the Islamic Republic of Iran and must be held responsible for these actions.

“Unfortunately, these unlawful and unilateral measures have destroyed the good interactions the two countries had in the past,” noted Mousavi.

Canada’s Department of Global Affairs released a statement earlier Sunday saying its representatives “continue to work closely with our allies and partners to hold Iran to account.”

“Canada is concerned by escalating tensions in the region, and supports diplomatic and constructive approaches to address the situation,” a spokesperson said by email.

“We oppose Iran’s support for terrorist organizations, its threats toward Israel, its ballistic missile program, its ongoing human rights violations, and its support for the murderous Assad regime,” the Canadian official claimed.

“We remain concerned by Iran’s nuclear program, and call on Iran to continue to uphold its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.”

Iran Ready to Implement JCPOA Just as France Did: Spokesman

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Mousavi said on Tuesday that Tehran is prepared to fully support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and do its best to implement it exactly like France.

“We think such behaviour should be completely convincing for the French who claim to support the nuclear agreement,” added Mousavi.

He made the comments in response to statements by his French counterpart who said on Tuesday that Paris strongly urges Iran to continue to implement all of its obligations under the JCPOA, as it has done thus far, and to refrain from any measures that would put it in violation of its commitments.

“We reject any ultimatums and will assess Iran’s compliance with its nuclear commitments in regard to its implementation of obligations set forth under JCPOA. In this regard, we reaffirm the crucial follow-up and monitoring roles played by the International Atomic Energy Agency. France is determined to see the JCPOA – central to the international non-proliferation and international security regime – implemented in full,” a French foreign ministry spokesperson said.

Along with its European partners, France is continuing its efforts to preserve the economic benefits linked to the lifting of sanctions as provided by the Iranian nuclear agreement, as long as Iran respects all of its nuclear obligations. The work under way for the operational implementation of the Instex mirror company known as the Special Trade and Financing Institute (STFI) is moving forward in a positive way and should soon be completed, added the spokesperson.

Iran Holds Talks with Muslim Envoys Ahead of OIC Summit

Iran Appoints Female Ambassador to Denmark

During the Tuesday meeting, Gholam-Hossein Dehqani elaborated on the stances and views of the Islamic Republic regarding the priorities of the Islamic world as well as the latest regional developments.

He also warned about the plots hatched by the Zionist regime and certain extra-regional powers to mislead the OIC, and called on the Islamic countries to remain vigilant against the conspiracies and deviations.

Dehqani further noted that the issue of Palestine is still the top and major goal and priority of the OIC.

He then referred to the current situation of the Islamic world and the Western Asia, especially the plots hatched by US President Donald Trump and the Zionist regime for the region, and efforts to sow the seeds of division among the Islamic states.

The OIC and its summits including the upcoming Mecca meeting should serve as a forum for promoting cohesion and solidarity among the Islamic Ummah rather than turning into a platform for division, enmity and raising issues totally irrelevant to the OIC’s goals under the pressure of the outsiders and some of their cronies, Dehqani noted.

He underlined that the Islamic states should resist any divisive measures and efforts to deviate the OIC members from the main goal of the Muslim world, that is Palestine.

“Any effort in this line would only serve [the interests of] the Zionist regime and the Trump administration,” he noted.

The Iranian diplomat also called for applying the principle of consensus and transparency in the OIC decision-making and criticized the current trend which completely ignores the stances of some states including Iran during the organization’s meetings.

Dehqani also referred to the discriminatory and anti-Iran stances of the secretariat of the OIC over the past years and said the secretariat, under pressure by Saudi Arabia, has moved away from its professional goals and adopted a new approach to exert pressure on its members.

“The approach is damaging and violates all accepted principles and procedures in all the international organizations,” he said.

The Iranian official then called on the secretariat to observe the principles of impartiality and transparency and said the secretariat should respect the basic and major goal of the OIC to defend the rights of the Palestinians and fight against the Zionist regime’s conspiracies.

During the meeting, some of the ambassadors, in turn, elaborated on their governments’ views on the regional and global developments.

The ambassadors also raised questions about the agenda of the meeting which were duly responded by the Iranian official.

Iran Says Not to Negotiate with Trump Unless US Shows Respect

Iran Blasts Europe’s ‘Disastrous’ Subservience to US

Speaking in an exclusive interview with CNN, the Iranian top diplomat said Washington walked out first from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“We acted in good faith,” Zarif said of the deal, which was signed by the US, Iran, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia. “We are not willing to talk to people who have broken their promises.”

Iran would not bow to the threats, Zarif said. “Iran never negotiates with coercion. You cannot threaten any Iranian and expect them to engage. The way to do it is through respect, not through threats.”

He further warned the US was “playing a very, very dangerous game” by boosting its military presence in the region.

Zarif criticized the US for sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Persian Gulf.

“Having all these military assets in a small area is in of itself prone to accidents, extreme prudence is required and the United States is playing a very, very dangerous game,” Zarif said.

Zarif’s remarks come as the United States has deployed an aircraft carrier and a number of its B-52 bombers in the Persian Gulf days ago, further fueling tension in the region.

Rebecca has set off on a journey across Iran in a Paykan car – an automobile which is nostalgic for most Iranians and which was discontinued years ago. She is eager to learn about Iranian nostalgic traditions.

She believes the Paykan is a symbol of a period of economic boom in Iran; part of the culture of some generations in the country.

She is embarking on this adventure to find out about some Iranian customs and traditions which are already forgotten or are fading away.

The following video, produced by ISNA, tells her story:

5,000-Year-Old Monkey Skeleton Discovered in Iran

5,000-Year-Old Monkey Skeleton Discovered in Iran

According to a senior cultural heritage official, the skeleton unearthed in the Burnt City in Sistan and Baluchestan province was unveiled for the first time in a local museum.

“The monkey buried in the 3rd millennium BCE was around five years old,” said Mehdi Arbabnia, the deputy head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department.

“Monkeys were regarded as a symbol of aristocracy in the ancient world. So, the fact that it (a monkey) has been found in the Burnt City indicates monkeys had social value at the time,” he added.

“This monkey was buried like a human being; in other words, it had the same status as infants in the Burnt City,” said the official.

“A pear-shaped glass, which was apparently used for drinking water, was also discovered next to the monkey’s skeleton, which shows monkeys were kept as pets,” he added.

He said the monkey was not a native of Sistan and Baluchestan region and had probably come from the eastern and southeastern parts of Asia, “which is a rare case.”

He said the skeleton of this monkey has been displayed at a local museum along with the statue of a woman who was the owner of an artificial eye dug out in the Burnt City.

The Burnt City in Sistan and Baluchestan is regarded as the most advanced ancient city in the world. It was the cradle of “firsts” in the world, namely the first skull surgery, the first animation, the first artificial eye, the first urban sewage system, the world’s first backgammon and hundreds of other unique items. Dating back more than five thousand years, the city always stands ready to host visitors.

Studies conducted on the remains and antiquities unearthed in the Burnt City show the growing development of different sciences and vocations on the Persian Plateau. The remains of the most ancient surgeries, the most ancient fabric and cloth, the oldest mosaic tile-work and oldest samples of caraway, coriander and pistachios are among the data and information discovered in the Burnt City.
