Iran Develops Nano Iron Supplements

One of the problems of iron supplements is that they blacken the teeth and result in digestive disorders, among other side effects.

However, an Iranian company has developed a liposome-based nano iron supplement which has no negative effect on the digestive system and does not blacken the teeth, either. Liposome has a spherical microscopic structure surrounded by a phospholipid membrane. Because of the hollow space inside the liposome, it is possible to carry medicines and nutritious compounds with this structure.

“Some children use iron-enriched supplements in order to meet their daily need for iron. These supplements have problems such as blackening the teeth,” said Arsalan Pashapour, the managing director of the company developing the nano supplement.

“We made a suspension containing iron-enriched nano liposome compounds which do not blacken teeth as they contain liposomes. Moreover, this supplement does not affect the digestive system and does not have the digestive disorders commonly caused by iron supplements,” he added.

He said one of the attractive features of the newly-developed supplement is that it has a nano structure, which increases the degree of absorption.

“In fact, this supplement has two features. It contains liposome, which prevents teeth from going black and makes the supplement compatible with the digestive system; moreover, it is a nano product, which helps increase the degree to which compounds are absorbed by the body,” he added.

“In addition to iron, this supplement also contains folic acid and vitamin B12. This is while similar foreign products made with liposomal technology only contain iron,” he noted.

Pashapour also touched upon other advantages of this supplement.

“Among other benefits of this technology is that it is a suspension while foreign-made ones come in the form of powder and need to be mixed with water to turn into a suspension before use,” he said.

Pashapour believes the supplement can also be exported, saying the company will make plans to export the product after distributing it across the nation.

This supplement has received the nano scale certificate and is passing through the stages of receiving a production license from the Food and Drug Organization of Iran.

Iran Says Concerned about Situation in Afghanistan

“The Islamic Republic of Iran warns that foreigners and aggressors may cash in on the new situation in this country and trigger a fresh round of killing and bloodshed in Afghanistan,” said the top Iranian diplomat.

“From our standpoint, aggressors and occupiers must concede defeat and leave Afghanistan as soon as possible,” said Zarif.

He said Tehran is urging all sides involved in the conflict to exercise self-restraint.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on all warring sides to exercise restraint, stop fratricide and seriously avoid shedding the blood of innocent people and individuals until a permanent ceasefire and national reconciliation agreement is reached,” he said.

Zarif underlined Iran’s readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at securing a reconciliation accord.

“While respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty and stressing that any peace process should be owned and directed by Afghan people from all walks of life, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready to take part in consultations and discussions with all warring sides in Afghanistan in a regional initiative together with Afghanistan’s neighbours and government as well as all groups in the country in order to stop the shedding of innocent people’s blood and ease the achievement of a lasting agreement, and will spare no sincere and nonpartisan effort in that regard,” he said.

Iran Men’s Basketball Qualifies for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Iran claimed the lone Asian Olympic qualifying spot available at the FIBA World Cup after beating the Philippines 95-75 in Beijing.

Iran could secure its qualification for Tokyo 2020 after China lost to Nigeria 86-73 in its last FIBA World Cup game on Sunday. China will have to go through a qualifying tournament next summer.

This is the third time that Iran’s national basketball team qualifies for the Olympics, after 1948 and 2008, and the first Olympic trip with an Iranian coach, Mehran Shahintab’e.

Iran and Nigeria join Australia and Japan as the first four teams in the 12-team Olympic field for next summer in Tokyo.

Iran’s Oil Tanker Adrian Darya Reaches Destination: Spokesman

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi confirmed on Sunday that Adrian Darya-1, formerly known as Grace-1, has arrived at its destination.

“We had already announced that we determine Adrian Darya’s destination,” he added.

Mousavi noted that the supertanker’s cargo has been sold on the sea and has been delivered at the destination.

The spokesman also noted that the case of a British oil tanker seized by the Iranian naval forces is in the final stages of judicial and legal processes.

On July 4, Britain’s naval forces unlawfully captured Iran’s oil tanker Grace 1 and its cargo in the Strait of Gibraltar under the pretext that it had been suspected of carrying crude to Syria in violation of the European Union’s unilateral sanctions against the Arab country. Tehran condemned London’s move as an act of piracy.

Gibraltar’s government later released the supertanker despite pressure from the US for the vessel’s continued detainment.

On July 19, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy captured Stena Impero, because the UK vessel had switched off its GPS locator, in contravention of international regulations, and was sailing into the Strait of Hormuz in a wrong traffic pattern.

The British tanker was entering the strait from the southern route which is an exit path, increasing the risk of an accident

Iran released the oil tanker’s crew last week.

Iranian Mourners Decorate Their Cities ahead of Ashura

These people are often inspired by historical and religious movies and TV series while making decorations for Muharram.

The love for Ahl al-Bayt motivates people to decorate alleys and streets using the objects they have in their homes to depict the events and symbols of Karbala, and Imam Hussain’s martyrdom.

What follows are IRNA’s photos of Muharram decorations in Tehran ahead of Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram when the third Shiite Imam, Hussein ibn Ali, was martyred some 14 centuries ago:

US, Turkey Start Joint Patrols in Syria ‘Safe Zone’

Turkey’s Defense Ministry announced the start of the ground patrols on Sunday, saying the joint mission is being supported by unmanned aerial vehicles.

“As a part of efforts to create a safe zone in the north of Syria to the east of the Euphrates, the Turkish and US military have started joint ground patrols using transport vehicles and drones to the south of Akcakale (a district of Turkey’s Sanliurfa Province), on the Syrian side,” the ministry said.

Earlier, an AFP journalist said six Turkish armored vehicles had crossed into Syria to join US troops. Two helicopters overflew the area as the Turkish vehicles drove through an opening in the concrete wall erected between the countries, the agency added.

The US and Turkey agreed on August 7 to set up the buffer zone to the east of the Euphrates River between the Turkish border and Syrian areas controlled by US-backed Kurdish militias, which Ankara views as terrorists affiliated with the homegrown Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group.

The zone is also said to be aimed at settling around one million displaced Syrians.

Washington’s support for the Kurdish militants in Syria has long been a source of tension between the two NATO allies. Turkey has launched two military operations in Syria against those militants and threatened a third if Washington fails to keep them away from the Turkish border.

In a bid to pressure the US into creating the area, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that Turkey was “determined to set it up by the last week of September.”

Erdogan said last week that his country would not stand any delays in creating the “safe zone” in Syria and would establish it alone if talks with the US fail to produce results.

The Syrian government — which is opposed to Turkish and US military activities on its soil — has slammed the US-Turkish agreement, labeling it as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as international law.

IAEA Assures Iran It Will Remain Impartial, Professional

Iran Sees ‘Positive Outlook’ for Ties with IAEA after Latest Report

Feruta made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran.

He highlighted the IAEA’s confidence-building efforts, stressing that the IAEA’s verification activities are conducted in a professional and impartial manner.

Zarif, in turn, highlighted Tehran’s cooperation with the IAEA, which has resulted in numerous reports by the UN nuclear watchdog in confirmation of Iran’s implementation of the JCPOA.

He also underlined the continuation of these collaborations at this juncture, emphasizing the need for the IAEA to comply with professional principles, maintain confidentiality, and carry out its duties in an impartial manner.

IAEA Assures Iran It Will Remain Impartial, ProfessionalZarif further referred to Iran’s measures to reduce its commitments under the JCPOA in reaction to the European parties’ failure to fulfil their commitments, saying that the moves were made within the framework of the Paragraph 36 of JCPOA.

In his short stay in Tehran, Fuerta earlier held talks with Ali Akbar Salehi, the chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) as well.

His discussions in Iran covered IAEA activities in the country, with an emphasis on the ongoing interactions between the IAEA and Iran related to the implementation of the Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol.

Feruta stressed that these interactions require full and timely cooperation by Iran. He said the IAEA’s safeguards activities are conducted in an impartial, independent and objective manner, and in accordance with standard safeguards practices.

The discussions also included the IAEA’s verification and monitoring of Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In this regard, Feruta was informed about Iran’s announced activities related to its centrifuge research and development. He said he will report on these activities to the IAEA Board of Governors.

Iran Develops Homegrown Decanter Centrifuges

Decanter centrifuges have applications in such industries as fruit juice and liquid oil production. This type of machine separates solid from liquid materials and that is why it is widely used in the water treatment and sewage sector.

By developing decanter centrifuges, the Iranian knowledge-based company has managed to set foot in international competition. According to the company’s CEO, the firm is to sign a contract with Sweden on exporting its products.

The products developed by this company are 40% cheaper compared to similar products produced by European countries and other leading producers of this product abroad.

In fact, this company has been able to domestically develop many of the products made by European and Chinese companies with reliance on expert Iranian workforce and locally developed technology.

The products are unrivalled in the Middle East and they have rivals only on the world stage.

The company imports only 20% of the materials it needs to make its products and the remaining 80% is provided by local suppliers.
