Zarif Calls Regional Counterparts amid N Syria Interim Ceasefire

The talks will continue in particular with officials from other countries in the region.

This comes as Ankara has agreed to suspend its offensive for five days to allow the Kurds to withdraw from the Turkey-Syria border or the so-called “Safe Zone” Turkey seeks to create.

The announcement on Thursday came after negotiations between US Vice-President Mike Pence and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Turkish capital.

Pumpkin Soup; Suitable Dish for Autumn

Iranian Food

In many cities of Iran, watery dishes and soups used to be the main dishes and people used less rice. That is why there is so much diversity in the dishes of many cities, including Arak in Markazi Province. One of them is the Pumpkin soup.

Pumpkin has a sweet and delicate taste, but it is very low in calories, with only 20 calories per 100 grams. This edible plant contains powerful antioxidant oxides, which is a natural acid in the fruit that removes dead skin cells and brightens the skin.

It also contains Vitamin A which helps to produce newer, smoother and younger skin cells. Pumpkin, rich in micronutrients, is equipped with effective elements to fight diseases. With the coming of the autumn season it is definitely recommended to cook and enjoy this soup.

Ingredients:

Wheat bulgur: 1 cup

Pumpkin: 1/2 cup

Black-eyed peas: ½ cup

Onion: 1 small size

Oil: As much as needed

Pepper, salt, turmeric: As much as needed

Directions:

First chop the onion and sauté. Then mix the wheat bulgur and the beans with the spices and cook with some water. After 2 hours pour the chopped Pumpkins into the soup. At the end add the necessary spices to the food. Wait till all the ingredients mix well. Wait about 30 minutes for the food to get ready. Bon appetite!

Ride-Hailing App Driver Amuses Passengers with Books

Mansour has created a bookshelf in his car, and gives his passengers the chance to use the time in the car for reading.

His move has been so impressive that prominent Brazilian contemporary author Paulo Coelho, whose novels are very popular in Iran, has shared photos of Mansour Khani’s page in his Instagram page.

Ride-Hailing App Driver Amuses Passengers with BooksWhat follows are excerpts of his remarks in a recent interview with Aftab-e Yazd newspaper:

I work at Snapp (ride-hailing service in Iran), but that’s not my main job. I am a workshop supervisor in a factory, but I work at Snapp in the afternoons or on the days the factory is closed. I’ve been doing this for almost four years. I was interested in reading books, so from the very first day I took some books to the car. The form of my car, which is different today, changed over time. I made a bookshelf in the car and put the books inside it and gradually the number of books increased.

Ride-Hailing App Driver Amuses Passengers with BooksI put signs in and out of the car to grab the attention of people and invite them to read books. My goal at first was to change the beliefs of people who get in my car. I wanted to tell them that a driver can do more than just observing traffic rules, and he can also do a cultural job.

One of the goals I pursue is to change this belief in people’s minds, and to continue to encourage people to read.  I give them a ride and then I try to treat them with a chocolate. Also during the ride, I ask them if they are interested in reading books. Or ask them the reasons for reading a book till we get to our destination.

Inside the car, I have a set of books that are free. I give them to people on the condition that they pass them onto someone else. I also have a series of books that are for sale and if anyone would like, they can buy them. I read the books myself before putting them in the bookshelf, so I don’t just randomly place some books from any publisher, writer or translator in my car. I like to offer people good books.

Ride-Hailing App Driver Amuses Passengers with BooksI launched my Instagram page two years ago. My goal was to get people involved in book reading. In addition, I wanted to encourage other drivers to do such a thing.

There were even a few phone calls from other cities to find out how I was doing this. So, I gave them directions but I don’t know if they did it or not.

On the other hand, we see there are a lot of popular pages on Instagram with no content or cultural topics. In this way, I was trying to do the opposite.

I don’t care if people buy a book. It doesn’t even matter if someone encourages me. I do it because I think it’s useful in the current situation. Sometimes no one buys a single book from me during a week, and it is a bad thing for a person who has more than 100 books in his car and takes them around. However, as I am a book fan myself, I try to share this love with people as much as I can.

Turkey Possibly Used Chemicals in Attack on Syria’s North: Reports

News coming in from al-Hasakah suggest Turkish forces and their proxies have used white phosphorus-loaded munitions — a chemical that can maim and kill when it comes in contact with human flesh – in their attacks on Syrian civilians.

Local sources in the province says several civilians suffering from severe burns were taken to hospital on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

The use of white phosphorus has been claimed by sources close to Kurdish militia known as Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). However, a source at Hasakah hospital said it was not clear what type of chemical material had injured those hospitalized.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said the hospital was facing a shortage of medical and laboratory equipment, and that is why medical staff there were unable to determine the kind of the chemical material.

The same source said although it was not possible to definitively determine the type of the chemical, the material was definitely one which was internationally forbidden to use.

The source said most of those injured were wounded not only by chemical explosives, but by heavy weapons as well.

Iran Produces Digital Embryo Detector

The digital embryo detector is used to hear the sound of the fetal heartbeat, but the most prominent features of this machine is its capability to display coloured images, count the pulse rate and record sounds.

This product is quite competitive in terms of quality and efficiency compared with its foreign samples and is not so widely produced in European countries as they use portable ones.

Countries like China and South Korea produce the same machine, but the Iranian device costs a tenth of the Chinese and Korean ones. It is more accessible and cost-effective to domestic companies.

This device will probably be exported in the near future.

Iraqi Leader Calls on Arba’een Pilgrims to Chant Anti-US Slogans

Sadr called on Iraqis to pour in their millions into Karbala province on Arba’een which marks the anniversary of the fortieth day after Ashura.

He announced in a statement that “People of Iraq, [who are moving towards the Qibla of the Freedom-seeking Revolutionists], move in millions and in a systematic way. May God protect you.”

He urged Iraqis to gather in Karbala on Arba’een Day to shout “No to America … No to Israel … No to Corruption.”

The leader of the Sadr Movement reiterated that Iraqis would also shout “Free Baghdad, Free Baghdad” and “Corrupt Go Out” on Arba’een Day.

Millions of Shiite pilgrims from around the world have flocked to the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala to mark the fortieth day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein.

Over 3.3 Iranian Pilgrims Leave Iran to Attend March of Arba’een

Iraq was the scene of anti-government demonstrations for a week as of October 1. Most of the protests were held to show anger at corruption and poor living conditions, but many foreign agents were also involved in abusing the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people.

Faleh al-Fayyad, leader of Hashd al-Shaabi organisation and Iraqi national security adviser, said on October 7 that “we know who is behind the demonstrations” and that the plan to overthrow the establishment in Iraq failed.

Noting that “there is no room for a coup or a riot,” al-Fayyad stressed that there are positive demands for reforming the political process and that is what is being discussed at government meetings.

Iran Unveils Homegrown Ultrasonic Trainer Jet

The trainer jet called Yasin became operational in a ceremony in the city of Hamedan on October 17, 2019. Also present at the event was Sorena Sattari, the vice president for scientific and technological affairs.

This is the first homegrown ultrasonic trainer plane which officially made its first maiden flight after passing final tests.

The aircraft was designed and produced by experts at the Iranian Defence Ministry in cooperation with the Army’s Air Force.

The all-Iranian state-of-the-art jet is 12 metres long and 4 metres high, weighing 5.5 tonnes. It can fly at a maximum altitude of 12 kilometres.

The wings of the aircraft are over 10 metres long and have a surface area of 24 square metres, enabling the jet to fly at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour. It is one of the best trainer aircraft in the world.

It needs a runway only 700 metres long to land.

The development of this modern trainer aircraft has put Iran among the few countries which possess such know-how.

Iran, Russia Urge Turkey to End Syria Incursion

Turkish Armey

The Russian delegation included the country’s special envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.

In the Wednesday meeting in Tehran, the two sides discussed Syria’s developments, including the latest situation in the north-east of the country and Turkey’s military operation in the region.

Both sides emphasised the need to preserve the unity and territorial integrity, independence, and national sovereignty of Syria and called for the immediate cessation of recent military actions and the resolution of the differences through political and diplomatic ways.

While reviewing developments related to the Astana Process and the issue of the formation of a Constitutional Committee and its commencement in the near future, they also accentuated the necessity of establishing the Syrian people’s future without any foreign intervention.

Khaji and Vershinin also discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the need to end the Yemeni crisis.

Turkey launched an offensive, called Operation Peace Spring, last week to purge the northern Syria of Kurdish militants. Ankara says these terrorists are linked to autonomy-seeking militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or the PKK.

The intrusion came after Washington abruptly withdrew its forces out of the region, clearing the way for Turkey to launch a military attack on US’ long-time Kurdish allies.

The developments forced the Kurds to ask the central government for support. Accordingly, they sealed a deal with Syrian troops to enter towns near the border with Turkey.

Syrian government forces entered Manbij on Monday night so as to prevent the city’s fall to the Turkish army and its allied militants.

At the Wednesday meeting the two sides exchanged views and discussed issues of mutual interest.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister offered his condolences to the Japanese people and government on the recent flood in Japan.

Earlier, the two sides met in Tehran back in August. In that meeting, the Iranian foreign minister referred to the good and constructive relations between Tehran and Tokyo and the landmark visit of the Japanese prime minister to Tehran and his meeting with Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing the continuation of consultations with Japan on the bilateral relations and regional issues.
