Iranian Official: ISIL Desecrating Karbala, Najaf in Guise of Iraqis

In a post on his Twitter account, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a special aide to the speaker of Iranian Parliament on international affairs, decried the most recent attack on the Iranian consulate in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf.

“The trio of the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia have now targeted Iraq’s democracy, sovereignty and independence,” he deplored.

“The Daesh (ISIL) has entered the field under the guise of Iraqi people and with the full support of the American and Saudi embassies in Baghdad and seeks to desecrate Karbala and Najaf,” Amir Abdollahian warned.

The Iranian official finally noted that the plot hatched by the enemies of Iraq will undoubtedly backfire.

His tweet came after rioters swarmed Iran’s consulate in Najaf late Wednesday.

Masked assailants had also attacked Iranian consulates in the Iraqi cities of Karbala and Basra a few weeks ago.

The incident prompted a curfew in Najaf and the closure of government offices on Thursday.

Chinese Highly Satisfied with Travels to Iran

In a Wednesday meeting with an Iranian deputy minister of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism in Beijing, Chairman of China Tourism Academy Dai Bin said a survey indicates that 85 percent of the Chinese tourists who have travelled to Iran have expressed “full satisfaction” with the trip.

He also noted that all of the Chinese tourists have been satisfied with the security in Iran, adding, “Most of the tourists liked the cities of Isfahan and Shiraz very much, and described the Naghsh-e Jahan Square and the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque as wonderful.”

Dai also called for efforts to facilitate the visits to Iran by Chinese nationals, saying programs such as training Chinese-speaking tour leaders and the infrastructures allowing the foreigners to make reservations on the Internet or online platforms could greatly help increase the number of Chinese tourists in Iran.Chinese Highly Satisfied with Travels to Iran

Pointing to a 17 percent decrease in the number of Iranian visitors in China, Dai said the Chinese officials were trying to address the issue by detecting the shortcomings.

He also praised Iran for lifting the visa requirement for the Chinese tourists, stressing, “Development of tourism industry in the two countries requires cooperation between the two governments, however, the private sector plays an important role as well.”

Chairman of China Tourism Academy finally denounced the US government’s unilateral policies towards the region, saying China opposes Washington’s unilateral measures and sanctions.

For his part, Iranian Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Vali Teimoory highlighted the significance of Iran-China ties, and enumerated the Islamic Republic’s efforts to facilitate Chinese visits to Iran.

He also noted that the Iranian tourism and training institutions are prepared to work with China Tourism Academy to train tour guides in the Chinese language and culture.

European Parties Not Allowed to Use JCPOA Trigger Mechanism: Iran

Iran Condemns Expansion of EU, US Sanctions on Syria

In a statement on Thursday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said Iran can use its legitimate right to counter the US unilateral and illegal violation of the nuclear agreement and Europe’s non-compliance with their commitments.

He made the remarks in response to the French Foreign Minister’s comments on the JCPOA and the possibility of using the dispute resolution mechanism (trigger mechanism).

Mousavi stated that these statements are irresponsible and non-constructive, and severely undermine the effectiveness of political initiatives to fully implement the JCPOA by all parties in line with sanctions relief system and the Joint Commission’s provisions.

Regarding the possibility of using the dispute settlement mechanism by France and other remaining parties, Mousavi also noted that the dispute resolution mechanism is to resolve the problems predicted in the JCPOA regarding compensatory measures for both sides, and Iran has used its right, defined under the Article 36.

Therefore, he added, under the current circumstances, the JCPOA does not allow European sides to resort to this mechanism.

The trigger mechanism involves a party referring a dispute to a Joint Commission comprising Iran, Russia, China, the three European powers, and the European Union and then on to the UN Security Council if that commission cannot resolve it.

If the Security Council does not vote within 30 days to continue sanctions relief, sanctions in place under previous UN resolutions would be re-instated.

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian suggested on Wednesday that Paris was seriously considering triggering the mechanism, as Tehran has repeatedly rolled back parts of the 2015 accord with world powers.

Reza Ardakanian said on Wednesday the loan will be paid according to an agreement made in 2016 to receive a $5 billion loan from Moscow.

“In that year, the parliament allowed the government to get up to $5 billion in low-interest loan from Russia. The $2.2 billion loan was used with the agreement of the Russian government to operate Incheboroun-Garmsar electric railway and build a 2-megawatt power plant in Hormozgan Province,” added the minister.

Iranian Women’s Growth Can Be Model for All: VP

Iranian Women’s Growth Can Be Model for All: VP

Masoumeh Ebtekar added that the Iranian women’s growth model can be used by other women in dealing with problems.

The victory outlined the status of women following the Beijing Declaration, especially in Asia during the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in Thailand.

“Since attending the Third World Conference on Women in Nairobi in 1985 and ten years later in Beijing, we have witnessed the development of the status of women in the world and in Asia in the past 34 years,” she reiterated, saying “this was achieved by women themselves, civil society and governments. I particularly talk about the advancement of women in Asia, including in my country, Iran.”

At the same time, armed and internal conflicts and foreign interventions have significantly damaged the most deprived communities, and the suburban life has changed the face of Asia, maintained Ebtekar.

“Climate change and environmental degradation have also had a negative impact on the region’s natural assets.”

If democratic processes and economic growth, especially in West Asia, are achieved, we can tackle insecurity, unilateralism, war and terrorism, she said.

“To this end, we need to work together to stop negative trends.”

Referring to the efforts made to improve the status of women and girls after the Islamic Revolution in Iran, she said, “In the past four decades, women have witnessed climaxes in their quest for progress in their lives. However, like other societies, they may face problems that we strive to resolve realistically.”

The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, citing statistics, invited the audience to visit the English version of the Vice Presidency’s website adding that a report on the situation of Iranian women under the title of “40×40” has been prepared.

“It represents an objective picture and can be a tool for planners and decision-makers to solve problems.”

For example, the literacy rate of women has increased from 34% in 1976 to 89% in 2019, while about 38% of Iranian girls have been deprived of attending schools in 1976, the number is 3% at the moment, she continued.

“There has also been a trend in women’s educational attainment, which in recent years has shown a 60-to-40 increase in the ratio of girls and boys entrance to universities. Needless to say, Iran has hosted nearly three million refugees over the past four decades providing good-quality services at a time when the country has been subjected to cruel sanctions by the international community.”

The Vice President noted that legal reforms to improve the status of women in the country after the Islamic Revolution, has always been considered. “For example, in the last two years, six bills have been drafted and submitted to the government.”

These include granting citizenship rights to offspring of Iranian mothers married to foreign men that have been approved and is in effect.

“The Bill on the Safety of Women against Violence has also been seriously pursued and is now in its final stages, with the establishment of an easy-to-dial-up social emergency centre in the country for everyone to intervene in family conflicts,” stated Ebtekar.
