Illustrated Works of Poetry Displayed at Tehran Exhibit

Poems Illustrations, Iran

The works of art by Samira Darya depict Hafez’s sonnets in which key words such as sweetheart, sheikh, mystic, heart, religion, etc., are repeated numerous times recounting novel stories each time.

The illustrations on show have an ambience associated with these very words, and tableaus on display feature mystic and love concepts. However, what is noteworthy is that Darya’s miniatures do not exactly conform to Hafez’s poems; rather, the illustrations feature her own imagination as well. Her works contain numerous details creating an ambience full of colour and patterns.

In her works, she has adhered to the principles of Persian painting. Fine paintbrush work, images of clouds and wind, flowers, birds, etc., have all come together to present the Persian painting style. Her illustrations feature links between different points in time and represent signs of contemporary life in an ancient ambience.

The exhibit drew to a close on February 14, 2020. The following are pictures of Samira Darya’s works displayed at the event, retrieved from Honar Online:

Zarif made the comments in a meeting with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on the sideline of Munich Security Conference.

During this meeting the two sides also discussed bilateral issues, and recent developments in the region.

Saudis Backtracked on Call for Talks with Iran under US Pressure: Zarif

Saudis Backtracked on Call for Talks with Iran under US Pressure, Zarif Says

In an interview at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Foreign Minister Zarif said Saudi Arabia had sent a message after the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani calling for talks with Iran.

“Tehran called for immediate negotiations in response, but Riyadh did not respond anymore. I think the Trump administration prevented Riyadh from responding,” Zarif added.

He said Saudi Arabia exhibited some sort of “balanced behaviour” for a couple of weeks after the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani, “maybe because they were concerned about our response. But after I announced that our response is over, they once again returned to the previous manner.”

“My message for my brothers (in Saudi Arabia) is that the US would not ensure your security. Your security is ensured from inside the region,” Zarif underlined.

The foreign minister also reiterated that Iran is not looking for any trouble with its neighbors, saying the Islamic Republic rushed to help Kuwait when Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait, even though Kuwait had already supported Iraq in the imposed war against Iran in the 1980s.

Highlighting Iran’s help for Qatar when it faced a blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Zarif said, “Even if someone attacks Saudi Arabia today, we will be ready to help them (Saudis).”

Zarif Gives Assurance Iran Fully Responsible on Plane Tragedy

Ukraine Plane Crash: Eyewitnesses Say Can’t Sleep Anymore

Zarif on Saturday held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart on the accidental shoot-down of the Ukrainian plane in Tehran, which killed all the 176 people on board last month.

During the meeting in Munich, the two sides also conferred on Tehran-Kiev cooperation over the investigations into the incident.

Zarif and his Ukrainian counterpart, who were meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, also underlined efforts to relieve the pains of the survivors.

Later in the day, Zarif also attended a multilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of the countries involved in the plane tragedy – Canada, Germany, Afghanistan, Sweden, and Britain.

In that meeting, Zarif discussed the legal and technical aspects of the incident, and highlighted Iran’s responsibility over the issue.

He also underlined the need to avoid politicization of the incident.

Zarif once again expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s full preparedness for cooperation with Ukraine on the investigations and the settlement of the issue.

Earlier in an interview with NBC News, Zarif had stressed that the Islamic Republic will not hand over the Ukrainian plane’s black box even though it is not capable of extracting its data.

He said Western countries must provide Iran with the hardware and software required for the data extraction, and there are many things Iran wants to know from the black box.

‘US Must Give Iran Equipment for Reading Ukrainian Plane’s Black Box’

In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Zarif said the Americans can come to Iran with their equipment and even do the investigation themselves, but in Iran’s presence.

He further noted that Tehran needs the information in the airplane’s black box more than anybody else does.

“We have asked for help. Why haven’t the US helped us? This is a humanitarian issue. Why haven’t they given us the software? Why haven’t they given us the expertise? We wrote both Boeing and NTSB the first day after the incident. We wrote to the French. We wrote to the Canadians to give us the information, give us the software, give us the hardware. We invited Boeing and NTSB to participate in the investigation. Why haven’t they provided it to us? Is there anything that they want to hide?”

“There is nothing that we want to hide because we announced that it was shot down by mistake. But is there anything that they want to hide? This is a question. I’m not a man of conspiracy theory. But it leaves this question very fresh in mind. Why are they not giving us the tools to read this black box?

Is there anything in this black box they don’t want us to know? That’s a big question,” stressed Zarif.

Elsewhere in his remarks Zarif said the Islamic Republic will not touch the black box without the presence of all interested parties.

He also noted that nobody is bothering to give information to Iran as the country which has the right to investigate this.

“We have admitted that it was our missile that brought down the airplane. So the information that a family wants to know is there for them to know, but we need information. We need information why did that happen? And they are refusing to provide us with that information. We have a right to that information. We have a legal right. We have a national right and we have the personal rights of all the families.”

Stressing that most of the passengers of the Ukrainian airliner have the next of kin in Iran, Iranian foreign minister underlined Tehran has allowed the next of kin to take the bodies to wherever they want, but only 12 took the bodies out of Iran plus the Ukrainians.

“Everybody is buried in Iran. That means all of their loved ones are in Iran. They are our citizens, and we feel the responsibility to respond to them. Why is not the United States giving us the material, the technology, the data, the software, the cables for us read this? Why do they want it to go out of Iran?

Why do they want it out of our jurisdiction? Why do they want it out of our hands? What is there that they want to hide? That’s a big big question,” said Zarif.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Tehran to Kiev operated by Ukraine International Airlines. On 8 January 2020, the Boeing 737-800 operating the route was mistakenly shot down shortly after takeoff from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport. All 176 passengers and crew lost their lives.

President Rouhani Says Women’s Role Growing in Iran

President Rouhani Says Women’s Role Growing in Iran

In an address to a Saturday conference in Tehran marking Mother’s Day in Iran, Rouhani said the fact that men and women have equal rights must be obvious in action and in the law-making process.

Highlighting the active presence of women in the social developments after the victory of the Islamic Revolution over the past 41 years, the president said women have outdone men in many posts, for instance, women make up 61 percent of the teachers across the country.

The president noted that he has ordered all of his ministers and their deputies to choose the managers and top advisers from among women, the youth, and various religious groups.

At least 30 percent of the management jobs in the administration and the society must be given to women, the president underlined, saying that women currently make up more than 42 percent of the administrative staff and 26 percent of the management posts are occupied by women.

Rouhani also highlighted his administration’s move to appoint women as ambassadors for the first time after the Islamic Revolution, saying four women are currently representing Iran in other countries.

World Amazed by Iran’s Resistance to Pressure of ‘US Wild Giant’: Leader

“Other nations would not bear even one-fifth or one-fourth of the pressure being imposed by the wild American monster,” the Leader said in a Saturday gathering in Tehran.

However, he added, the Iranian nation is standing firmly. “Everyone is amazed to see such a resilient nation.”

“Nobody would believe that Iran would reach its current status in regards to its political status and regional influence and progress in scientific and technological fields in the early days of the Islamic Revolution,” the Leader said.

“However, the Iranian nation put its trust in God. did not fear any power and was able to achieve such progress,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“Praise be to God, a heroic spirit is alive in our country. People are enthusiastically and devotedly present on the scene. To increase this heroic spirit, it is necessary to cultivate this culture.”

He further noted that “today, the important need of our country is for our youth to be equipped with various weapons and means of soft war, which consist of willpower and the power of reason.”

“I have repeatedly said about the need to strengthen the country,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“One of the central components of this is to equip the youth with the means of thought and correct insight in the knowledge of the Ahl al-Bayt,” he added, referring to the progeny of the Prophet (PBUH).

“Thankfully, there are all types of good people in the Islamic Republic: military commanders, motivated young scientists, diligent builders of culture, artists and people who are present. The ultimate victory over the massive front of the enemies certainly belongs to the Iranian nation.”
