Coronavirus May Have Been Developed by US or Israel: Report

According to a report by Fars News the most commonly reported mainstream media account of the creation of the Coronavirus suggests that it was derived from an animal borne microorganism found in a wild bat that was consumed by an ethnic Chinese resident of Wuhan. But there appears to be some evidence to dispute that in that adjacent provinces in China, where wild bats are more numerous, have not experienced major outbreaks of the disease. Because of that and other factors, there has also been considerable speculation that the Coronavirus did not occur naturally through mutation but rather was produced in a laboratory, possibly as a biological warfare agent.

Several reports suggest that there are components of the virus that are related to HIV that could not have occurred naturally. If it is correct that the virus had either been developed or even produced to be weaponized it would further suggest that its escape from the Wuhan Institute of Virology Lab and into the animal and human population could have been accidental. Technicians who work in such environments are aware that “leaks” from laboratories occur frequently.

There is, of course and inevitably, another theory. There has been some speculation that as the Trump Administration has been constantly raising the issue of growing Chinese global competitiveness as a direct threat to American national security and economic dominance, it might be possible that Washington has created and unleashed the virus in a bid to bring Beijing’s growing economy and military might down a few notches. It is, to be sure, hard to believe that even the Trump White House would do something so reckless, but there are precedents for that type of behavior. In 2005-9 the American and Israeli governments secretly developed a computer virus called Stuxnet, which was intended to damage the control and operating systems of Iranian computers being used in that country’s nuclear research program. Admittedly Stuxnet was intended to damage computers, not to infect or kill human beings, but concerns that it would propagate and move to infect computers outside Iran proved to be accurate as it spread to thousands of PCs outside Iran, in countries as far flung as China, Germany, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.

Inevitably there is an Israeli story that just might shed some light on what has been going on in China. Scientists at Israel’s Galilee Research Institute are now claiming that they will have a vaccine against coronavirus in a few weeks which will be ready for distribution and use within 90 days. The institute is claiming that it has been engaged in four years of research on avian coronavirus funded by Israel’s Ministries of Science & Technology and Agriculture.

They are claiming that the virus is similar to the version that has infected humans, which has led to breakthroughs in development through genetic manipulation, but some scientists are skeptical that a new vaccine could be produced so quickly to prevent a virus that existed only recently. They also have warned that even if a vaccine is developed it would normally have to be tested for side effects, a process that normally takes over a year and includes using it on infected humans.

If one even considers it possible that the United States had a hand in creating the coronavirus at what remains of its once extensive biological weapons research centre in Ft Detrick Maryland, it is very likely that Israel was a partner in the project. Helping to develop the virus would also explain how Israeli scientists have been able to claim success at creating a vaccine so quickly, possibly because the virus and a treatment for it were developed simultaneously.

In any event, there are definite political ramifications to the appearance of the coronavirus, and not only in China. In the United States President Donald Trump is already being blamed for lying about the virus and there are various scenarios in mainstream publications speculating over the possible impact on the election in 2020. If the economy sinks together with the stock market, it will reflect badly on Trump whether or not he is actually at fault. If containment and treatment of the disease itself in the United States does not go well, there could also be a considerable backlash, particularly as the Democrats have been promoting improving health care. One pundit argues, however, that disease and a sinking economy will not matter as long as there is a turnaround before the election, but a lot can happen in the next eight months.

And then there is the national security/foreign policy issue as seen from both Jerusalem and Washington. It is difficult to explain why coronavirus has hit one country in particular other than China very severely. That country is Iran, the often-cited enemy of both the US and Israel. The number of Iran’s coronavirus cases continues to increase, with more positive tests confirmed among government oofficials. So far over 6,000 have been infected and some 200 have died of the virus, though unofficial hospital reports suggest that the deaths are actually well over 400. That’s the highest number of deaths from the virus outside of China.

Several Iranian Members of Parliament have also tested positive amid a growing number of officials that have contracted the disease. Iran’s vice president Masoumeh Ebtekar and deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi had also previously been confirmed with the virus. Two former officials have even died of the disease.

The usual suspects in the United States are delighted to learn of the Iranian deaths. Mark Dubowitz, Executive Director of the Washington-based but Israeli government connected Foundation for Defence of Democracies (FDD) boasted on twitter Tuesday that “Coronavirus has done what American economic sanctions could not: shut down non-oil exports.” An Iranian government spokesman responded that “It’s shameful and downright inhuman to cheer for a deadly Virus to spread – and enjoy seeing people suffer for it…” Dubowitz followed up with an additional taunt, that Tehran has “spread terrorism” in the Middle East and “now it’s spreading the coronavirus.”

So, you have your choice. Coronavirus occurred naturally, or it came out of a lab in China itself or even from Israel or the United States. If one suspects Israel and/or the United States, the intent clearly would have been to create a biological weapon that would damage two nations that have been designated as enemies. But the coronavirus cannot be contained easily and it is clear that many thousands of people will die from it. Unfortunately, as with Stuxnet, once the genie is out of the bottle it is devilishly hard to induce it to go back in.

‘Bin Salman’s Purge of Royals Stems from His Paranoia’

‘Bin Salman's Purge of Royals Stems from His Paranoia'

Kamran Karami has pointed to Bin Salman’s recent arrest of his younger brother Ahmed bin Abdulaziz and former Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Nayef, saying reports and information suggest that the arrest of the two key figures was carried out with the codename of “great betrayal”. But what this means to Bin Salman cannot be judged at the moment.

“However, if the background to this action is considered, it is clear that since becoming crown prince Bin Salman has seen the two princes, who are particularly popular among people, princes, military and security officials, as a threat to his position.”

A look at Bin Salman’s actions indicates that he has long sought to make a second wave of arrests following the first wave of 2017 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

In fact, it seems the new purge of royals won’t remain restricted to the two princes, and we may see some new names in the future, possibly the names of military commanders. If the king of Saudi Arabia dies, it will be possible for the two princes to disobey Bin Salman and pose a serious threat to the future of his kingdom.

Regarding the possibility of a coup, Karami said given Saudi Arabia’s tribal political structure in which, unlike many countries of the Middle East, the military does not play a significant role, the possibility of a coup is not that much high. In addition, it should be noted that since 2013, Bin Salman has carried out several clean-ups in important posts, so the possibility of a coup is somewhat ruled out.

“However, Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz and Mohammed bin Nayef, who have held senior positions in the Saudi Ministry of Security for years, have the potential to do so, contrary to the structure of power in the country.”

According to Karami, in fact, they have the power and popularity to collude with the military commanders, but the whole process is contrary to this. Even after returning to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed bin Abdulaziz has not taken any tangible action to threaten the crown prince, but he remains concerned about the era after his father’s death.

“From the point of view of Bin Salman, any figure in Saudi Arabia who wants to challenge him will be eliminated. On another level, anyone who wishes to tarnish his Vision 2030 document will not be tolerated. He believes that Saudi Arabia is on the right track; women have special legal rights, young people can go to concerts and so on. In his view, all the goals of the 2030 document are being achieved. So the aim of the purges, which culminated in 2017 and last Friday, is to facilitate the access of Mohammed bin Salman to the throne, the implementation of the 2030 document, and consolidation of his power and regional status,” noted the Iranian expert.

Karami went on to say that the kingdom of Mohammed bin Salman seems largely guaranteed, but only Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz and Muhammad bin Nayef were the two figures who could disrupt his access to the throne. Since 2017, Mohammed bin Nayef has been under house arrest and Ahmed bin Abdulaziz travelled to London. It was only the guarantee of Americans and the wish of Bin Salman that brought him back to Saudi Arabia. All in all, the path to the reign of MbS is very smooth. However, the actions of Bin Salman over the past few years show that he is a paranoid and intends to tackle any threat on the monarch’s path. He seeks to sit on the throne before his father’s death, because in this way the possibility of his success will be much higher. This comes as King Salman’s illness has developed and Mohammed bin Salman hopes his father resigns, contrary to the tradition of the past. This could be a new trend in Saudi Arabia’s power structure.

Bin Salman’s new arrests are the latest show of the crown prince’s willingness to take extraordinary measures to supress any apparent rival.

Crown Prince Mohammed first demonstrated his iron feast on the kingdom in 2017 by locking up hundreds of royal relatives and well-off Saudi businessmen in a Ritz-Carlton hotel.

The next year he gained international infamy by presiding the killing of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul — an assassination that many believe the prince ordered.

The recent arrests come at a time when fears about the impact of the coronavirus have reduced the price of oil, the main source of the kingdom’s income, and the crown prince’s plans to diversify the Saudi economy have failed so far.

The Saudis familiar with the arrests say it is not clear where the new detainees are being held, if they may face criminal charges, or whether they may soon be released.

Jaish ul-Adl Terrorist Leader Killed in Southeastern Iran

“A terrorist team affiliated with the Jaish ul-Adl group was identified and dismantled on the other side of the border through a complicated and extensive intelligence operation and its members were entrapped by [Iran‘s] security forces upon arrival in the country,” the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

It added that the terrorist team was attacked by provincial security forces on Sunday and its leader, Elias Narou’i, nicknamed Zubair, was killed in the operation.

The statement noted that various types of weapons and ammunition as well as some equipment for making bombs were seized in the operation.

Narou’i was planning to identify military and security targets in the provincial capital city of Zahedan to conduct terrorist operations, but failed to achieve his goals, the statement said.

The slain terrorist played a key role in numerous terrorist operations, including commanding the attack on the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ base in the city of Nikshahr, which killed two IRGC forces; participating in the killing of 27 IRGC personnel who were traveling between the cities of Zahedan and Khash in Sistan and Baluchestan province; and planting a sound bomb in front of the Zahedan police station.

The statement added that on February 8, a terrorist team that planned to carry out a bomb attack in front of the Zahedan police station was also arrested by the security forces.

During the operation, two terrorists were arrested and a 5 kg-bomb was discovered

Iran Air Says All Flights to Europe Suspended Until Further Notice

The aviation officials of the Islamic Republic say the restrictions imposed for “unknown reasons” have been the cause of suspension.

The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran announced on Sunday that Homa is holding negotiations with European authorities to resume the flights.

Secretary of the Association of Iranian Airlines has stated that European restrictions on Iran Air had nothing to do with the outbreak of coronavirus.

Maqsoud Assadi Samani further noted that the restrictions have been enacted in line with the US pressure on Iranian companies.

Iran Air has called on the passengers to refer to Homa Sales Offices or Travel Services to refund their money or call +982146621888.

Saudi Releases New Photos to Show King Salman Is Alive

Saudi Releases New Photos to Show King Salman Is Alive

The official Saudi Press Agency posted photos of the king presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Saudi ambassadors to Ukraine and Uruguay.

A source close to the Saudi leadership told AFP on Saturday the “king is healthy and fine”.

This came after Saudi whistleblower and Twitter activist Mujtahid said on Saturday King Salman is either dead or at death’s door.

He explained that tens of people from the royal family have been detained, including Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, a brother of King Salman, and the monarch’s nephew Prince Mohammed bin Nayef.

The court staff, the royal palace personnel, and the royal guard members have been told that visiting the king is impossible due to his health conditions, Mujtahid noted.

The whistleblower also noted that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is going to issue a statement on behalf of his father to declare the king’s abdication.

50 Firms Keen to Join Swiss Channel for Trade with Iran: Bern

50 Firms Keen to Join Swiss Channel for Trade with

“There are 50 companies that are interested at the moment, and we think there will be more,”” SRF quoted Swiss Foreign Ministry’s Director of the Foreign Economic Affairs Directorate Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch as saying.

She made no mention of the companies’ names, however.

Pointing to the spread of coronavirus COVID-19 in Iran, she said “if we can provide some support there and ensure exports take place then we are making a good contribution,”
Earlier on 2 March, Spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Seyyed Abbas Mousavi had said that the US “sabotages” the Swiss channel.

In a tweet on Saturday Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also slammed the US “illegal sanctions with the aim of draining Iran’s resources needed in the fight against COVID19—while our citizens are dying from it.”

According to the latest official figures, out of 5,823 people who have been infected with COVID-19 in Iran, 145 have lost their lives.

On 30 January the Swiss government announced that the US allowed for a “humanitarian” channel named the Swiss Humanitarian Trade Arrangement (SHTA) for exchanging agricultural products and medicine with Iran.

Governor of Central Bank of Iran Abdolnasser Hemmati cautiously welcomed the arrangement in his post on Instagram.

“It seems that the US government has issued the necessary waivers for the use of a part of foreign currency reserves for supply of basic goods and medicines. One should see the job in action. The US government has up to now blocked the CBI reserves illegally and through pressuring countries.”
