Over 93,000 Iranian Inmates on Furlough amid COVID-19 Outbreak

Over 93,000 Iranian Inmates on Furlough amid COVID-19 Outbreak

In comments on Saturday, Asghar Jahangir said more than 93,000 inmates have gotten furlough.

Jahangir added that all inmates on leave will receive post-furlough care services.

In late February, Judiciary Chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi ordered the courts across the country to grant the eligible prisoners leave for the new Iranian year’s holidays until April 3, also as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus epidemic.

A few days ago, President Hassan Rouhani announced that the furloughs will be extended until end of the Iranian month of Farvardin, April 19.

Iran’s death toll from COVID-19 has increased to 2,517, with 139 new deaths confirmed only in the past 24 hours.

Iranian Scientist Denies Developing COVID-19 Drug

Soleimani said the reports quoting him as saying that the Corona medicine was developed and its initial test was positive is not true.

Soleimani, who is a hematology and stem cells researcher, explained that he and his research team are using mesenchymal stem cells to modify the immune response in corona patients.

“I emphasise that this is a research-therapeutic approach,” Soleimani told Mehr News Agency.

The research is being conducted with the support of the health ministry at Shariati and Masih Daneshvari hospitals, he said.
The results of the first phase of its clinical trial will be announced soon by the health ministry, added Soleimani.

In separate comments, the spokesman for Iran’s health ministry also asserted it is not a drug, but a stem cell therapy.

Kianoush Jahanpour underlined this method is a type of cell therapy that is still in the study phase.

“The results of the first phase of its clinical trial will be announced shortly, and the health ministry will announce the next steps,” he underscored.

Earlier, Fars News Agency has quoted Soleimani as claiming that he has developed the medicine for coronavirus.

Iranian University Claims Its Antiviral Drug Treats COVID-19 Patients

Chancellor of Abadan School of Medical Sciences Shokrollah Salmanzadeh says the study of the effect of an antiviral drug on critically ill patients with COVID-19 has shown success in treating these patients and decreasing the length of hospitalisation.

Sara Mobarak, Head of the Abadan Infectious Diseases Research Group, says since the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country, a research team decided to use drugs that help treat the patient’s clinical symptoms.

“After hospitalisation of patients with corona at Taleqani Hospital in Abadan, our research team decided to implement a regimen next to the nationwide standard regimen on patients after obtaining the necessary permits from the health ministry,” added the Vice Chancellor for Education at Abadan University of Medical Sciences.

The early results of this regimen were very promising in the early days, and we achieved very stunning results compared to the national protocol regimen in terms of mortality rate and hospitalisation days, she went on to say.

Comparing the two groups, the mortality rate in the second group decreased to zero and the days of hospitalisation reduced.

“What was very important was that the people in the intensive care unit, who received artificial respiration, returned to normal breathing after four days and were discharged from hospital.”

She noted that for one month the drug had stunning results on 60 patients with COVID-19.

“We hope that by using this regimen and incorporating it into national protocols, we can take a major step forward in reducing hospitalisation period and ultimately lowering the death rate,” underlined Mobarak.

During a two-week follow-up period after receiving this treatment, the patients improved and were discharged from hospital, stated Mobarak.

What VR’s Done for Gaming and What It Can Still do in the Future

Unfortunately, SEGA’s and Nintendo’s respective devices were met with derision and ridicule due to them being unwieldy, uncomfortable and downright ugly to behold.

Because of how poorly the Virtual Boy (Nintendo) and the VR-1 (SEGA) performed in the marketplace it has taken some twenty-plus years for VR’s reputation to recover, but recover it has and now thanks to being driven forward by some of the biggest movers and shakers in tech, it could be about to take over.

What is VR Doing for Gamers in the Here and Now?

There was a sea change as to how VR was viewed by critics and the general public when in 2014 a young tech entrepreneur by the name of Palmer Luckey sold his VR startup Oculus to Facebook for what was reported to be around $2 billion. This had a snowball effect with the tech goliath’s rivals Google and Samsung both countering the move with acquisitions and VR developments of their own, as they all realized the amount of invaluable big data that could be gleaned from large numbers of customers using their VR devices.

In just the last few months, game developers have caught up with the makers of VR headsets to create a number of games which are more than worthy of the new opportunities provided by this next generation VR hardware. Half-Life: Alyx, Skyrim VR and No Man’s Sky are just three of a whole new wave of video games that should have gamers clamoring to ditch their laptops and desktops in favor of VR headsets.

Online Casinos Get in On the Act

In the world of online casinos, gaming developers NetEnt and Microgaming have been two of the companies making strides to enhance the user experience by introducing VR technology into their games, which they first demoed at a gaming conference in 2016. VR versions of live casino and slot games can be found at many online gaming sites, but a fully immersive, all-encompassing VR casino is still a work in progress at the moment.

The reason for the technology not being rolled out quicker may be due to the fact that online casino and slot game providers such offer such an expansive range of live casino games to play already, allowing players to interact with real human dealers via a video feed, which a VR experience will always struggle to enhance or better. However, one option that may be explored by developers is the use of augmented reality, or AR as it’s known, to provide players of live games with more in-game stats and options to explore.

What VR’s Done for Gaming and What It Can Still do in the Future

Very soon you may be able to play casino games in stunning VR while at the park or the beach

What Next for VR Gaming?

Although only to be found in a few select locations around the world, there are signs that VR developers are keen to take their technology out of peoples’ homes and into the outside world, with companies such as VOID allowing teams of friends to enter a virtual world built around bricks and mortar of an abandoned warehouse or aircraft hangar. The same idea could well be applied to the aforementioned online casinos, allowing you and your friends to saunter round in your VR tuxes, sipping VR cocktails, but making real life gains. Away from gaming, expect VR to probe further into sectors such as education and work training, where it’s potential applications are endless.

How Medical Inventory System Can Improve Inventory Accuracy

In the construction industry, employees have easier access to their tools and equipment, thanks to their inventory system. But what about the healthcare industry?

In the medical world, the accuracy of your inventory is just as important as patient care. But it looks like everybody’s only focusing on providing high-quality patient care. Inventory management can be a real challenge. In fact, for some medical institutions, inventory management can mean tracking medical supplies and equipment with pen and paper or using a spreadsheet. This type of inventory system will become unorganized and inaccurate over time.

Medical inventory system defined

Medical inventory systems encourage medical institutions to eliminate inefficient inventory management methods and take control of their inventory using an automated inventory system. This system, which can be in the form of an app, helps teams in tracking their medical inventory accurately while keeping tabs on critical information like medication expiration dates, stock levels, and equipment maintenance details. This means that managers and staff will know what supplies are available, what medication will expire soon, where the equipment is, and who is accountable for it.

Whether you’re a medical device and equipment supplier, a solo practitioner, or a part of a larger medical institution, automating the inventory process will allow you to eliminate the guessing part of the inventory management. If you allow the system to do the heavy lifting, then you don’t have to spend your time worrying about your inventory. You can spend that time to grow your practice and provide the best care to your patients.

Inventory management challenges

Tracking materials and supplies in the healthcare industry is challenging, especially since inventory needs always fluctuate. Below are the challenges current medical inventory system has:

  1. The complex needs of patients. Patient needs are very specific and complicated, which means that hospitals should manage a universe of inventory and keep it in order to assist the patients.
  2. Volatile demand. It’s normal for inventory to fluctuate. In fact, they are even more pronounced in the hospital setting. Contagious diseases come and go, and in some days, the need for emergency responses is high. Because of this, medical institutions like hospitals find themselves unexpectedly facing shortages in supplies. They may also be in a chaotic situation which prevents them from finding limited supplies on short notice.
  3. Age-sensitive and temperature-sensitive items. The problem is that some chemicals and medicines have a limited shelf life. Some medicines are prone to damage whenever the temperature changes, and as a result, medical institutions struggle to protect sensitive inventory. They also face the challenge of ensuring that the items are used in the right order to prevent expiration. Disorganized institutions can waste so many resources if they don’t track their inventory properly.
  4. Security has always been an issue when it comes to hospital inventories. People may steal drugs and chemicals and tamper with other sensitive items. These issues can bring significant legal and safety liability for the hospital.

Because of all these challenges, what you have in your spreadsheet or your ledger may contain some inaccuracies. In the healthcare industry, accuracy is very important. How many pieces of equipment do you have available? You can’t just guess the answer based on the number you remembered. Information should be 100% complete and accurate. And this is why you need the help of a medical inventory system.

How a medical inventory system improves inventory accuracy

Replacing paper trails or spreadsheets using an inventory system can bring a huge increase in inventory accuracy. How’s this possible? That’s simple.

Without manually entering the information on paper or your spreadsheet, there’s less chance for human error. This applies to tracking stock levels, expiration dates, and equipment maintenance. And if you want to make sure you didn’t miss anything, then you’ll have to check the spreadsheet again, which wastes so much time. You could have spent that time doing other things instead of double-checking the information in your inventory.

Also, having a secure, cloud-based system that you can connect to a mobile app means that you can have access to your updated information any time, anywhere. When your equipment is checked out, or when your supplies are re-stocked, then all the users who have access to the system will be able to view the changes automatically. This means that doctors, nurses, and other administrators can avoid miscommunication or confusion when it comes to inventory updates.

Improving accuracy can also help both small and large private hospitals to improve security and compliance. Many health care professionals can access controlled substances, so the government needs to require hospitals, medical clinics, and pharmacies to report any uncontrolled substances that are misplaced or lost. If you don’t have an accurate and up-to-date inventory system, then medical institutions can be at risk to safety issues because of legal liabilities and theft, if the federal agency request for these records.

If you’re still tracking your inventory via spreadsheets, now is the time to upgrade to an automated inventory management system. Your goal should be to make sure your records are 100% accurate. But the question is, how do you find an effective inventory software? What features should it have to ensure the accuracy of your inventory?

How to find the best medical inventory system?

Finding the best inventory software for your hospital is only easy if you know what you’re looking for. To help you, here are the features that you should be looking for when you decide to buy an inventory system:

  1. Real-time tracking – this allows you to keep track of drug inventories, medical devices, and lab samples to ensure they are available whenever you need them.
  2. Customizable software – you should be able to customize the system so that it meets the requirements of your facility.
  3. Improved data security and patient safety – this allows you to reliably track items and pharmaceuticals to ensure that they aren’t lost.
  4. Improved chain of custody – this allows the staff to determine the last person who handled a particular piece of equipment or sample.

Iranian NGOs Call on UN Chief to Work Towards Getting US Sanctions Lifted

Iranian NGOs Call on UN Chief to Work Towards Getting US Sanctions Lifted

In a letter to Antonio Guterres, the institutions called on him to discharge his responsibilities with regards to Iranian people, especially at a time when the deadly coronavirus has gripped the country, and stop Washington’s sanctions.

The signatories to the letter have called on Interior Minister Abdoreza Rahmani Fazli to follow up on the Iranian NGOs’ protest over foreign governments’ unilateral sanctions and restrictive policies against Iran.

The letter is signed by 325 NGOs from across the nation.

Copies of the letter have been sent to Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the President’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi, Vice President for Social Communications and Government Spokesman Ali Rabiei, and Mohammad Baqer Olfat, the deputy Judiciary chief for social affairs and prevention of crimes.

The full text of the letter follows:

Your Excellency, Mr. Antonio Guterres,

the respected secretary general of the United Nations,

Entitlement to public health and sanitation is one of the fundamental and recognized rights in the international human rights system and is deeply enshrined in different international documents. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights regards health as part of standards of living, and it is stipulated in Clause 1 of Article 25 of the declaration that healthcare, along with food, clothing, housing and urgent social services, is among the minimum economic and social requirements of proper standards of living and welfare and health for everybody. Moreover, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1996) deals with the right to health and says, “The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health …, the prevention, treatment and control of epidemic, endemic, occupational and other diseases … and creation of conditions which would assure to all medical service and medical attention in the event of sickness.”

Article 24 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child also recognizes “the right of the child to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health and to facilities for the treatment of illness and rehabilitation of health.” The article also says governments should take appropriate measures to “diminish infant and child mortality; ensure the provision of necessary medical assistance and health care to all children with emphasis on the development of primary health care; combat disease and malnutrition, … and ensure appropriate pre-natal and post-natal health care for mothers.”

Mr. Secretary General!

It has been years that Iranian people have been under the sanctions of the US government, and since Donald Trump took over as the US president, these unilateral sanctions have been extended in violation of international commitments, so much so that the sanctions have no other meaning than economic war and blockade against Iranian people. The United Nations has, so far, failed to fulfill its legal duties with regards to making the US government comply with human rights regulations.

The outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran along with the perpetuation of these inhumane sanctions is claiming the lives of many Iranians every day. Doctors, nurses and health experts are losing their lives on duty because of a shortage of medical and health equipment.

Mr. Secretary General!

The lives of millions of Iranians are in danger. Iran needs financial resources to buy medical equipment and protective gear for its 80 million population. Iranian NGOs and the Iranian civil society, which are signatories to this letter, are requesting that you use your capacity as Secretary General and follow up on efforts to get the United States’ inhumane sanctions on Iranian people lifted and stop this crime against humanity.

Sincerely yours,

Signatories

Iran Declares 12 Provinces as Coronavirus 'Red Zone'

The country’s Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said on Saturday 3,076 new cases of coronavirus infections were confirmed in the country in the past 24 hours.

That brings to 35,408 the total number of people infected with the deadly disease in Iran.

“11,679 infected patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital,” he added.

According to Jahanpour, 3,206 patients are in severe conditions.

If you are worried that you may have contracted the Coronavirus, take this test right now.

He said the implementation of the National Mobilisation Plan and consolidation of pathology, as well as the increase of laboratories approved by the ministry of health to conduct COVID-19 diagnosis test have contributed to discovery of further new cases.

Jahanpour further noted that the failure of some people in observing the recommendations is the main reason for the increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

This Iranian official also underlined that up to now about 57 million Iranians have been screened by health centres.

Jahanpour also ruled out the rumours saying people can get infected via aero cells. He underscored that people will not get infected by breathing in open spaces, saying that just the staff working at hospitals and ICU’s are in danger of getting infected via aero cells.
