“The claim made by anti-revolutionary elements abroad was in line with the terrorist and belligerent Zionist regime [of Israel] aimed at launching a media campaign, creating despair and aligning themselves with the Great Satan (the US)’s policy of maximum pressure on glorious Islamic Iran,” it added.

“This is also to remind you that the satellite photos released do not belong to this atomic site,” the AEOI said.

Iran Urges UN Chief to Help Find Diplomats Abducted in Lebanon

Iran Urges UN Chief to Help Find Diplomats Abducted in Lebanon

On July 4, 1982, the year Israel invaded Lebanon, Iranian diplomts Ahmad Motevasselian, Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taqi Rastegar Moqaddam and Kazem Akhavan were kidnapped by a group of Israel-backed gunmen at an inspection post in northern Lebanon.

In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday, Iran’s envoy to the UN Majid Takht-Ravanchi said the Islamic Republic believes the four diplomats were handed over to Israeli forces immediately after the abduction in a region controlled by Tel Aviv at the time.

“Evidence shows that they have been held in Israeli prisons, and are still alive,” the Iranian envoy added.

He wrote that the UN chief is expected to support Tehran’s call for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the fate of the missing Iranian nationals.

Takht-Ravanchi referred to the abduction of diplomats as a move against the international law, especially rules of human rights, and highlighted the UN’s role in dealing with the issue and holding the Israeli regime accountable for kidnapping the four nationals.

The Iranian envoy wrote the letter to Guterres on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the abduction.

Earlier on Friday, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again hailed cooperation and measures taken by the Lebanese government to determine the fate of the four diplomats and said the UN, the ICRC and other international bodies as well as Lebanese officials should fulfil their legal and humanitarian duty and make their utmost efforts to shed light on the Islamic Republic places “legal and political responsibility of the abduction and this act of terror” on the Tel Aviv regime and its supporters given the occupation of Lebanon at that time by the Israeli regime, which was carried out with the full support of the United States, the statement added.

“Despite the elapse of many years of this criminal and terrorist act, the international community and so-called advocates of human rights have unfortunately carried out no serious action vis-à-vis this crime,” the ministry said.

“The Zionist regime, which still continues to commit crimes and violate international law with the support of the US, is evading responsibility in this respect,” it added.

VP Urges Boost to Iran’s Non-Oil Exports

Boosting non-oil exports for supplying the required foreign currency, increasing domestic production, and creating employment is Iran’s top economic priority, Jahangiri said in a meeting of the Headquarters on Coordination of Foreign Economic Relations, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The vice president then called on all governmental, public and private organizations to try to remove the obstacles in the way of non-oil exports in the current Iranian year.

“To get through the difficult and serious conditions at present, we must focus on the removal of obstacles to production and settlement of the economic problems and livelihood of people,” he added.

Jahangiri further pointed to the clear connection between economic development and the foreign policy, noting, “In order to promote and attract investment and to shore up the production units that export their products to the other countries, we require an active economic diplomacy. In this juncture, we must strengthen connections primarily with the neighboring countries, with which we have political, security and economic bonds.”

The vice president further stated that 80 percent of the Iranian exports are destined for the neighboring states and a number of other major countries.

He also touched on a $41 billion target that the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has set for the exports in the current Iranian year, noting that achieving that target would prove that Iran has the necessary capacities to do great jobs.

Calling for efforts to increase the value of exports compared to the previous year, Jahangiri said, “In addition to the neighbors, our economic relations with China, India, and Russia are determining. We have significant and strategic relations with those countries.”

China is the world’s second largest economy, the vice president added, noting, “We must have the courage to defend the enhancement of our country’s strategic relations with Beijing, and the Foreign Ministry can work on this agreement in various fields, from energy to technology.”

“India is also a great country, and it is necessary to focus on economic interaction with it more carefully. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must have special plans to promote economic ties with the target countries,” the vice president noted.

He further highlighted the role of transportation and transit industry in the generation of currency incomes for Iran, stressing the need to strengthen the infrastructures at the border provinces to help boost the transit of commodities and expand foreign exchanges.

All tools and capacities must be employed for Iran’s economic growth and promotion of exports, Jahangiri stated, describing the Iranian expatriates as a major asset that could participate in the economic affairs and help the country in the current circumstances.

‘Zarif’s UNSC Speech Thwarts US Efforts to Extend Iran Arms Embargo’

US Claim That Iran Sanctions Reinstated 'Baseless': FM Zarif

The presence of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the online meeting of the UN Security Council and his powerful speech was warmly welcome. In the meeting, all UNSC members expressed their support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) despite recent efforts by Brian Hook, Mike Pompeo and Donald Trump to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran, a move that would be a blatant breach of UNSC Resolution 2231 and would sound the death knell to the JCPOA.

In an interview with the Iranian government’s official website, dolat.ir, political analyst Nozar Shafiee has weighed in on the issue.

“The defeat and isolation of the United States at the meeting was completely predictable,” he said.

He then explained the reasons behind the US isolation with regards to the JCPOA.
“The first reason is Trump’s behaviour over the past four years because such behaviour runs counter to international regulations, and Trump’s demands and stances do not have many supporters on the international stage,” the analyst underlined.

According to the expert, Washington’s international credit was badly dented during Trump’s tenure.

He also says that the United States’ withdrawal from the JCPOA was a violation of multilateral commitments and pushed the country into isolation.

“This move has left no room for defending the United States’ viewpoint,” he said.
Shafiee said the United States’ attempts to have the arms embargo against Iran extended was a flagrant violation of Resolution 2231.

“One of the commitments in the JCPOA and the resolution was the lifting of arms embargoes on Iran,” he said.

“The second reason behind the US becoming isolated once again was [UNSC members’] opposition to the United States’ demand for the renewal of arms embargoes and the members’ backing for the JCPOA,” the expert noted.

“The third and most important reason for the US defeat at the meeting is related to Iran’s diplomacy,” he said.

The expert is of the conviction that the JCPOA and the proper handling of the nuclear deal following Washington’s withdrawal from it have been the outcome of Iran’s successful diplomacy.

“Both before and during the UNSC meeting, Iran’s diplomacy was active enough, and, in fact, the US viewpoint had already been vetoed before it was floated at the UN Security Council.

“In fact, this veto does not mean that China or Russia have vetoed it; rather, it means it was clear from long ago that the US would not get the votes of UNSC members because of the weakness of its positions,” he underlined.

He said Iran’s diplomacy managed to give birth to the JCPOA and follow up on developments related to it.

“At the UNSC meeting, the foreign minister [Zarif] was, based on the JCPOA, able to condemn the United States’ stances, and this was one of the key contributors to the US being isolated,” he said.

Venezuela’s Special Envoy Lauds Iran for Fuel Shipments

Venezuela’s Special Envoy Lauds Iran for Fuel Shipments

In a meeting with Iranian President’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi, held in Tehran on Monday, the Venezuelan president’s special envoy, Jorge Marquez, praised Iran as a “hero and great nation” that is highly respected by the people of Venezuela.

“The day when the Iranian oil tankers carrying gasoline arrived in Venezuela was a day of celebration for the Venezuelan nation,” the envoy added.

Marquez also submitted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s written message for President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, saying the Caracas government is always grateful for the supports and assistance provided by the “Iranian brothers” and calls for the expansion of ties with Tehran in all fields.

He further stressed the need for unity and resistance against the common enemy of Iran and Venezuela, namely the US imperialism, expressing confidence that no foreign power would be able to achieve its objectives against the will of liberalist nations, like Iran and Venezuela.

For his part, Vaezi hailed the positive and constructive consultations between the two countries’ authorities, saying Iran is eager to boost interaction with Venezuela in various arenas.

He also denounced the US’ policy of pressure and sanction against the resisting governments and nations, adding, “We should not allow the sanctions imposed by the enemies to harm the development and welfare of people through solidarity and promotion of relations and mutual cooperation.”

Over the past weeks, Iran has deployed several shipments of gasoline and foodstuff to Venezuela in defiance of the US sanctions.

In a congratulatory message on Venezuela’s Independence Day on Sunday, President Rouhani called for the enhancement of strategic interaction between Tehran and Caracas.

Iran, Kyrgyzstan Hold Virtual Business Event

Iran's President Calls for Closer Ties with Kyrgyzstan

The virtual business event was held with the participation of 30 Iranian knowledge-based companies and businesspeople from Kyrgyzstan in order to discuss the technological needs and the ways to exchange trade delegations in the agricultural sector.

The event was also aimed at establishing direct connection between the Iranian and Kyrgyz companies to fulfill Kyrgyzstan’s technological demands, allowing the Iranian enterprises to present their capabilities, holding Business to Business (B2B) meetings, preparing the ground for joint agricultural projects, and promoting the economic and technological relations between the two countries.

Considering the significant role that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member states could play in the promotion of the Iranian exports, Iran’s National Innovation Fund –affiliated with the President’s office- has already opened a permanent exhibition of Iranian knowledge-based products in Kyrgyzstan’s capital in November 2018, dubbed “Iran’s Business House in Bishkek”.

Several Iranian and Kyrgyz officials delivered speeches at the international online event, including Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic Erkinbek Choduev, Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Iran to Kyrgyzstan Saeed Kharrazi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of Iran Avazbek Abdurazakov, and CEOs of several Iranian knowledge-based companies.

US, Israel Concerned over Iran’s Power: FM Zarif

Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday Iran’s power has made the enemies line up against the Islamic Republic.

“Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the scene of confrontation with countries and groups that use all their power to put pressure on Iranian people,” he said.

The foreign minister said no country is facing so much pressure as Iran is from certain powers such as the US and the Israeli regime.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the top diplomat touched upon his recent speech at parliament.

“In this tough battle, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has to defend itself against local friends. Moreover, we take it upon ourselves to defend the country,” he added.

“All my colleagues tolerate criticisms and insults, but sometimes have to mention points which are needed to defend themselves. But it is not good for national interests. They’d better not say those points,” he said.
