Iranian Researcher Discovers Two New Species of Fauna

Iranian Researcher Discovers Two New Species of Fauna

Specialized in entomology, Dr. Javad No’ei is a member of Faculty of Agriculture in Birjand University. He has introduced 20 new species to the world, four of which are from Birjand.
“Based on studies conducted on arthropod and spider species, two new genera called Razgthrombium and Birjandtrombella farniae have been introduced to the world,” Dr. No’ei told ISNA.

According to him, the first genus was discovered in Razg village, and the second in Amirabad and Rech village, both near the city of Birjand. They have been named after their place of discovery.Iranian Researcher Discovers Two New Species of Fauna 1

“Ticks belonging to the families of discovered species are among natural enemies of agricultural pests,” No’ei added. “In the biological control method, some plant pests control harmful agricultural pests, and make it unnecessary to use chemical pesticides.” These species are about three-tenths to six-tenths of a millimeter (300 to 600 microns) in size.
He mentioned that the discovery has been published in “Systematic and Applied ‎Acarology‏”, a prestigious Australian scientific journal.

Door Knocker; A Less-Known Part of Persian Architecture

Door Knocker; A Less-Known Part of Persian Architecture

The wooden doors at the entrance of homes in the old district of Bushehr, southern Iran, are adorned with different elements: patterns and engravings, nails, anchors, and of course double brass door knockers.

Interestingly, these knockers have long been produced in two types: one for men and one for women.

The masculine knocker has a low pitch; while the feminine has a high pitch. This way, the owner of house learns if the guest is male or female by hearing the knocker’s sound.

Today, new buzzers and other audio, visual alarms have replaced those knockers; and iron doors have taken the place of those lovable wooden doors. However, the old knockers are still an integral part of the Iranian culture in more traditional areas.

What follows are IRNA’s photos of the historical door knockers in Bushehr:

Iran, UAE Top Diplomats Discuss Regional Cooperation

Iran, UAE Top Diplomats Discuss Regional Cooperation

In the Sunday talks, which were held via a video conference call, the two top diplomats expressed their preparedness to expand Iran-UAE cooperation in various fields in line with the two countries’ common interests.

Zarif highlighted the sensitive situation of the region, and underlined the need for dialogue and mutual cooperation.

“Others may take advantage of the current situation in order to destabilize the region, but we as neighbours need to think about regional stability,” Zarif said.

The Emirati side, in turn, stressed the necessity of cooperation between Iran and the United Arab Emirates in the region.
He also called for continued consultations

between the two countries and turning of challenges into opportunities.

Iran, Russia Discuss Bilateral, Regional Issues

In the Sunday meeting, Zarif described as significant the relationship between the two countries’ parliaments. He noted the two legislatures have stressed the need to further upgrade the level of bilateral strategic ties.

Moreover, given the level of Iran-Russia cooperation on different fronts, the top Iranian diplomat stressed the need to update a long-term cooperation agreement between the two countries and bring it up to the level of strategic relations in line with the enhancement of reciprocal ties.

The Russian official, in turn, said his trip to Iran comes amid the coronavirus outbreak, which indicates the high level of Tehran-Moscow relations as well as the importance of issues between the two countries.

In addition to bilateral issues, particularly economic ties, the two sides also discussed other issues, including the Iran nuclear deal, developments in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya as well as regional and international mechanisms and pertinent organizations.

Russia’s Claim of Having Developed COVID-19 Vaccine ‘Just for Show’: Iran

Iran, Russia to Work Together to Produce COVID-19 Vaccine

Minoo Mohraz says Russia has not yet succeeded in producing a vaccine for the disease. “This is just a show.”

“Unfortunately, the products that Russia has developed under the name of ‘coronavirus vaccine’ have not yet been approved by international authorities,” said Mohraz.
For a vaccine to be approved, she said, it must receive the seal of approval from one of three internationally-recognized centres.

“The World Health Organization, the US Food and Drug Administration or the European Union must approve the development of the vaccine by Russia, something which has not happened yet,” she noted.

“The whole world, including Iran, are trying to develop a vaccine for coronavirus, but Russia’s claim that it has managed to produce a vaccine is questionable and we need to ask which international health organization has approved it,” she added.

“As I see it, and as global survey show, no vaccine [for the novel coronavirus] will hit the market by the end of 2020,” she said.

The specialist underlined Iran will, by no means, use the Russian-made vaccine as it is not proven to be safe.

“We even refused to import the [Russian-made] flu vaccine as it didn’t have the approval of the World Health Organization,” she said.

“In my opinion, there are other countries which are way ahead of Russia when it comes to the production of the coronavirus vaccine and are still going through the testing stage. Russia’s announcement that it has produce a vaccine for COVID-19 is just a claim,” she said.
