Iranian political analyst: US not trustworthy for negotiations

Here is the full text of Mehdi Fazaeli’s op-ed:

“The Satan Himself, Unretouched!”

God the Almighty says in Verse 6 of Surah Fatir in the Holy Quran, “Verily Satan is an enemy to you; so treat him as an enemy”.

The Quran issues this warning because many a man fails to notice Satan’s enmity despite his undoubted hostility and even treats him as a friend!

If we look around carefully, we come to realize that this bitter reality is universal and that not only have some people failed to notice Satan’s enmity, but they have also taken him for a friend and taken refuge in his embrace!

Imam Khomeini, the deep-thinking scholar of our age, described the US as “The Grand Satan”. Thus, we can consider America as the epitome of this Quranic warning of our times. On this basis, the US is our main enemy. So we should treat him as an enemy. Nevertheless, some people have acted and are acting in contradiction to the Quran’s emphasis, which is regrettable.

The Grand Satan of our age, has successed in fooling or intimidating naive people in many parts of the world through adorning its ugly and disgusting face with attractive and beautiful slogans such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the likes, and, of course, thanks to its economic, scientific and military power.

But at times, such as now, the deceptive mask has fallen off its ugly face and the world has found an opportunity to see the true face of the Satan unretouched, thus learning a lesson.

The US’s role in manufacturing the Coronavirus and contaminating the world with the wicked virus, which was revealed recently by Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency of the Trump administration; Trump’s empty encroachments on Canada, Panama and Greenland; Washington’s withdrawal from some international organizations and treaties such as the Paris Climate Pact and the World Health Organization; the US sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague due to its issuance of an arrest warning for Netanyahu; the unprecedented move to sell some weapons to the Zionist regime, the unprecedented humiliation of the Ukrainian president; threatening to arrest students and academics in the US; cutting budges; and firings are all interesting examples that would help know the true and evil face of the US.

The moves exude no signs of freedom, human rights and democracy. Some people could credulously think that Trump is an exceptional figure and different from the reality of the US. One should ask these people, “What system swept Trump to the White House twice? Didn’t Biden approve some of key orders issued by Trump after taking office? Is trump facing any stiff resistance within the US ruling system? These signs and dozens of others prove that Trump is the United States of America itself. Only without a velvet cover and unretouched. We, along the rest of the world, must make the best of this opportunity to know the Grand Satan, which is our enemy and the enemy of all humanity, and to stand up against its greed. Otherwise, we risk further emboldening this insatiable beast and making it more ferocious, and it will throw its claws to every corner of the world, thus inflicting irreparable costs.

And this could be the very scorching fire of which God the Almighty warns elsewhere in Verse 6 of Surah Fatir!

European states welcome Arab League’s plan for reconstruction of Gaza

Gaza War

“We, the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom welcome the Arab initiative of a Recovery and Reconstruction Plan for Gaza,” the foreign ministers of the four countries said in a joint statement.

“The plan shows a realistic path to the reconstruction of Gaza and promises – if implemented – swift and sustainable improvement of the catastrophic living conditions for the Palestinians living in Gaza,” it added.

“Recovery and reconstruction efforts must be based upon a solid political and security framework acceptable to both Israelis and Palestinians, which provides long term peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians alike,” it noted.

The statement also expressed explicit support for the central role of the Palestinian authority and the implementation of its “reform agenda.”

On Tuesday, an emergency Arab summit in Cairo adopted Egypt’s $53 billion reconstruction plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip without displacing Palestinians from their land.

The Arab proposal came after US President Donald Trump’s plan to “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians to develop it into what he called the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

The plan was rejected by the Arab world and many other nations, who say it amounts to ethnic cleansing.

Iran wins runner-up position in Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship

The two powerful teams of Iran and India faced each other in the match, and at the end, the Indian team defeated Iran 32-25, securing the championship. Nepal and Bangladesh jointly ranked third.

On this occasion, the Iranian Ministry of Sports and Youth issued a statement, congratulating the Iranian team on their achievement.

The statement said this success is the result of the efforts, determination, and zeal of Iranian female athletes who, by shining in the competitions, once again demonstrated the capabilities of Iranian women in the exciting field.

The sixth edition of the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship was hosted by Tehran Province and it happened in Pardis City from March 6 to 8.

Former Iran top diplomt, nuclear chief: War between Washington, Tehran to have unknown consequences

Aliakbar Salehi told told Entekhab news outlet such a war will have unknown dangerous consequences.

The former Iranian foreign minister however said chances of a conflict between Iran and the US are very slim.

Salehi also said the Persian Gulf Arab countries do not want such a military confrontation, although they would like Iran to be contained in their political assessments.

In other comments Salehi added that should a war begin, China will put an end to the Taiwan issue quickly.

His comments follows remarks by the Qatari foreign minister who has warned against attacking the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran.

The US and the Zionist regime have openly threatened multiple times to attack Iran over its nuclear program. Iran has warned against such an aggression, saying it will be met with a devastating response.

Ayatollah Khamenei: Iran will not give in to demands of bullies

Ayatollah Khamenei was speaking during a meeting with former and current Iranian government officials including top military brass on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The leader reiterated that Iran will certainly not accept the demands of those bullying governments, in a  reference to the recent comments of US
President Donald Trump in which he called for negotiations with Iran over the Tehran’s nuclear program.

Meantime, Ayatollah Khamenei criticized the European troika, the UK, France and Germany, for their claim that Iran has failed to abide by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as JCPOA.
“Have you lived up (to your commitments under the JCPOA)?”, the leader asked, addressing the three European countries. Ayatollah Khamenei said the European sides actually failed in abiding by their obligations from day one.

He added that the trio even promised to make compensation one way or another after the US withdrawal from the agreement, but they did not make good on their pledge.

“Ungratefulness has its limits”, the leader said.

In other comments, Ayatollah Khamenei rejected Western claims that free flow of information exists in the West.

He said the West double standards have disgraced the Western civilization and disproved such claims.

The leader cited as an example, Western social media platforms on which people are banned from denying the crimes of Nazi Germany against Jews, objecting to crimes in Palestine and Lebanon, and even mentioning the names of martyred commander of Iran’s Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani, late leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and late leader of Hamas Esmail Haniyeh.

The leader said the Western civilization has shown its true colors.

Source to al-Mayadeen: Iran will not hold talks with US under Trump’s conditions

Iran US Flags

Al-Mayadeen news channel quoted a “high-ranking Iranian diplomatic source” as saying that Iran has informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Tehran will not hold talks with Washington under US President Donald Trump’s conditions.

The source added that Iran however welcomed the Russian initiative to advance negotiations over the issue.

Earlier, Russia said it’s ready to mediate talks between Iran and the US. But this comes as US officials including Trump himself have intensified pressures against Iran.

Their pressures, including the reinstatement of the so-called ‘maximum pressure policy,’ appear to be aimed at forcing Iran to come to the negotiating table.

Tehran has repeatedly said it’s open to talks with all sides, but will not negotiate under pressure and at a time when the US openly threatens the Islamic Republic.

Trump says he considers sanctioning Russia over Ukraine war

According to Trump, his statement is based on the fact that Russia “is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield” – a possible reference to Russia’s recent advances in Kursk Oblast or Russia’s large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine on Friday.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large-scale banking sanctions, sanctions, and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and final settlement agreement on peace is reached,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social media platform.

“To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!”

Russian forces have reportedly made a breakthrough south of the Ukrainian-held town of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, potentially threatening to cut off some of the Ukrainian positions in the region.

A Ukrainian soldier and a medic deployed in Kursk Oblast, who spoke to the Kyiv Independent on condition of anonymity, confirmed the Russian breakthrough in the embattled region on Friday.

Russia is also pushing in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk sectors in Donetsk Oblast, with a total of 146 clashes recorded across the front line over the past day, Ukraine’s General Staff announced on Friday.

Meanwhile, Russia launched another large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine overnight on Friday, launching 67 missiles of various types and 194 drones. Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted 34 missiles and 100 drones, the Air Force added.

Shortly after his inauguration, Trump threatened to impose tariffs and sanctions on Russia to force their hand in negotiations, saying “we can do it the easy way or the hard way.” In the following weeks, Trump instead lashed out at Ukraine, claiming President Volodymyr Zelensky was “not ready for peace” and halting military aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Washington is preparing a proposal to potentially ease sanctions on Moscow as Trump works to restore diplomatic ties and negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.

U.S. and Ukrainian delegations are planning to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11 to discuss the framework for a potential peace agreement.

Zelensky has proposed a “truce in the sky” banning missiles, long-range drones, and bombs targeting civilian infrastructure, as well as a “truce at sea” as the first steps towards the de-escalation.

Tension erupts between US, Israel over Washington’s direct talks with Hamas: Report

Hamas

Ron Dermer, Netanyahu’s closest confidant, voiced strong objections in a call with US hostage envoy Adam Boehler on Tuesday, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

In early February, Israeli officials advised Trump aides against direct engagement with Hamas, especially without preconditions, but Israel later learned the US was proceeding anyway, the news website added.

Trump defended the talks Thursday, saying they benefit Israel by focusing on its hostages. Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, set to visit the region next week, called American hostage Edan Alexander’s release a “top priority”.

Washington is engaging in direct talks with Hamas as negotiations on a ceasefire accord between the Palestinian armed group and Israel are hanging by a thread.

“These are ongoing talks and discussions, I’m not going to detail them here, there are American lives at stake,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday, confirming a report by Axios media outlet that talks between the two sides were taking place.

“Look, dialogue and talking to people around the world to do what’s in the best interest of the American people is something that the president has proven is what he believes is [a] good faith, effort to do what’s right for the American people,” Leavitt added.

Adam Boehler, Trump’s nominee to be special envoy for hostage affairs, participated in the direct talks with Hamas.

A Hamas official cited by the AFP news agency confirmed the negotiations over Israeli-US captives held in Gaza.

The US had previously publicly refused direct contact with the Palestinian group since banning them as a “terrorist” organisation in 1997.

Israel announced it had been consulted by the US on the direct talks.

Israeli officials say about 24 living captives – including Edan Alexander, an American citizen – as well as the bodies of at least 35 others are believed to still be held in Gaza.

Confirmation of the talks comes days after the first phase of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire expired, with Israel pushing for an extension while Hamas insists on progressing to the second phase of the deal agreed in January.

The first phase saw Hamas release 33 hostages in exchange for Israel releasing more than 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

Israel has said the proposal to extend the first phase of the truce was drafted by the US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

The new plan would require Hamas to release half its remaining captives in exchange for a ceasefire extension and a promise to negotiate a lasting truce. Israel made no mention of releasing more Palestinian prisoners – a key component of the first phase.

After the first phase expired, Israel on Sunday suspended humanitarian aid deliveries, including fuel, aid and medicine, into Gaza, as the government aims to put pressure on Hamas to accept the new terms – a move that the Palestinian group slammed as a violation of the original deal.

France, the United Kingdom and Germany on Wednesday warned Israel against using aid as a “political tool”, calling on it to ensure the “unhindered” delivery of humanitarian supplies to the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave.

“We call on the government of Israel to abide by its international obligations to ensure full, rapid, safe and unhindered provision of humanitarian assistance to the population in Gaza,” the countries announced in a joint statement.

“A halt on goods and supplies entering Gaza such as that announced by the government of Israel would risk violating international humanitarian law,” they noted, adding, “Humanitarian aid should never be contingent on a ceasefire or used as a political tool.”

The three European nations described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “catastrophic”.

Iran denies Macron’s claim of Ukraine war involvement

Russia Ukraine War

On Wednesday, Macron said Russia had used Iranian equipment in its war against Ukraine.

“Russia has already turned the Ukrainian conflict into a global conflict. It has mobilised on our continent North Korean soldiers,(and) Iranian equipment, while helping these countries to arm themselves further,” Macron said in an address to his nation.

Tehran has repeatedly denied sending any weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has no interference in the Ukrainian conflict and insists on its principled position of opposing war and the necessity of ending the conflict through dialogue,” foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated.

Baqaei called Macron’s remarks “baseless and false”, and a sign of France’s “lack of seriousness in restoring peace and stability in Europe and the world.”
