“Sadr Movement Won’t Accept US Dictates on Iran”

Zia Assadi referred to the latest threats by the US officials against Iran and said the Sadr bloc have fought hard for Iraq’s independence to stand firm against others’ will and desires.

According to a report by IRNA, Assadi underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran is Iraq’s neighbour and the two sides have historical, cultural, social, economic, and trade commonalities.

“We don’t take US demands of Iran seriously,” he said, adding it is no secret anymore that the US demands have no end and the country doesn’t care about other nations’ interests.

“The US government is focused on preserving the interests of weapons manufacturers and the Zionist lobby groups and to this end, it is ready to stand even against its own nation’s interests,” he added.

He underlined that the movement will never give in to the will of others, including the US, because Washington’s policies have ended up in failure in the region putting it in deep troubles.

“Muqtada al-Sadr will never allow foreign powers to use Iraq’s soil for waging war on any neighbouring state,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Assadi said as announced repeatedly in the past, the US president in Iraq is acceptable only in diplomatic areas and within the legal authorities of its embassy in Baghdad which should be equal to that of the authorities of Iraqi embassy in Washington.

“The US military presence in Iraq is not acceptable for us because it is not at the request of Iraqi government. The incumbent and previous governments have announced explicitly that they have never called for growing US military presence in Iraq.”

The Iraqi politician also rejected as baseless any reports on confidential relations between Muqtada al-Sadr and Saudi Arabia and said the latest visit by the Iraqi cleric to Saudi Arabia was made with the aim of reducing the tensions in the region and creating moderate ties between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Assadi blasted meddlesome tweets by Saudi Arabia’s former ambassador to Iraq, Thamer al-Sabhan, and said Sabhan has created tensions in Iraq’s domestic politics over the past years.

“Muqtada al-Sadr views any meddlesome move in Iraq’s politics as a great mistake and underlines that Iraq should remain independent,” he said.

Following the victory of Sadr’s bloc in Iraq’s parliamentary election, a flurry of reports by Saudi-led media has emerged on Muqtada Sadr’s position in Iraq’s politics and his role in the creation of the new government in the Arab country.

Over the past days, Muqtada al-Sadr held separate meetings with rival political leaders, ushering in what could be an extended period of negotiations over the formation of a new government.

The Sadr bloc took 54 out of 328 seats in the May 12 vote.

Iran President to Meet Russian, Chinese Counterparts

The meetings will be held on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the heads of states and governments of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to be held in the Chinese city of Qingdao from June 9 to 10.

According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, the timing of Rouhani’s trip to China is yet to be announced.

The future of the 2015 nuclear deal has become a hot topic in political circles after US President Donald Trump pulled the country out of the deal on March 8.

Rouhani said on Wednesday he will discuss the fate of JCPOA with other parties to the nuclear deal in coming weeks.

“If these five countries can protect Iran’s interests, particularly economic interests, we will continue the deal without the US. Otherwise, we will make the necessary decisions,” he said.

“With or without JCPOA, the country will be run properly,” he said, while speaking in a meeting between Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and senior Iranian officials.

Rouhani will also make visits to Switzerland and Austria later in July.

Iran Leader Says US Will Fail Like Cat in “Tom & Jerry”

Addressing a meeting with government authorities and officials on Wednesday, the Leader said, “Since the beginning of the 1979 Revolution till today, the US has committed all kinds of animosity to hit the Islamic Republic and has plotted various political, economic, military and propaganda schemes against the Islamic Republic.”

“All these actions aimed at ‘overthrowing’ the Islamic Republic, a word which is repeated constantly, is not something new,” he added.

“All their plots have failed. You can compare the Islamic Republic now to forty years ago, and see that it is moving forward with various capabilities. So, all their plots have failed… just like Tom from the well-known Tom and Jerry cartoon; and they will fail again in the future.”

The Leader said “we have no doubt in the failure of the enemy; and anyone who is familiar with Islamic thought knows this.”

“The current US president will have no better fate than that of his predecessors, like Bush, the other Neocons, and Reagan; he and will be lost in history.”

Six Lessons to Learn from Past Experiences

The Leader went on to say, “The introduction to every decision is that we refer to our own experiences, if we do not learn from past experiences, we will surely be at loss. We have several experiences before us, as I refer to some salient examples, all of you will admit: these are important for decision making, today, and for the next generations.”

“The first lesson is that the Islamic Republic government cannot interact with the US. This is the first experience. Why? Because the US does not live up to its commitments. Don’t say this is only true for the administration of Trump. No! The previous administration in the US, with whom we had meetings and talks, behaved in the same manner, but they rejected the agreement in a different manner. They also threatened [us] and went against their commitments. This is an answer to all those who, repeatedly, over time asked me, “why don’t we negotiate with the US, or why don’t we develop relations with the US?”

“The second experience is related to the depth of the US’ animosity towards Iran,” the Leader noted, adding that the animosity of the US is not based on an issue like the nuclear issue, but it goes beyond such matters.”

Iran Leader Says US Will Fail Like Cat in “Tom & Jerry”“The Islamic Republic is a government that has grown powerful; it, in no way, compromises with the US; and has raised the flag of Islam. The US is strongly opposed to such a government. The US seeks to obliterate the factors of power in the Islamic Republic.”

“The third experience is that flexibility with regard to this enemy will not make it less aggressive, but it makes it more aggressive. When the Iranian government at the time of George W. Bush showed some flexibility, the US named it [part of] the Axis of Evil. If you want to do something to reduce the animosity, do it; but it is not realized through flexibility and compromise.”

Referring to the fifth experience that consisted of the cooperation of Europe with the US on important issues, he stressed, “We do not want to fight Europe, but these three countries have proved that, on the most sensitive issues, they follow the US. The immoral behaviour of France as the bad cop in nuclear negotiations and the obstructionism of the UK in production of Yellow Cake were some examples.”

He then added, “The sixth experience is to never rely on the JCPOA and foreign matters for our domestic matters… we should not attach domestic matters to some affairs which are out of our control.”

“We must learn from our mistakes, and from our experience, and must not be satisfied with marginal effects. For example, it is said that the US lost face in this JCPOA business. That is right. But did we negotiate so that they lose face, or did we negotiate to lift the sanctions? Now they are saying that there will be secondary sanctions.”

“Or, it is said that the relationship between the US and Europe has deteriorated. But did we sit at the negotiating table for this? Of course Europe will not stand in the United States’ way,” he added.

“Let’s be realistic and not count on probabilities. It was said at the beginning of the negotiations that 100 billion dollars would enter the country. This was not true. Now, the insolent president of the United States sometimes even says that 150 billion dollars was given to Iran by them. What nonsense. When did you ever give us anything?”

He further noted that what we project about our interests must be true and told to the people clearly.

The economy of Iran cannot be resolved by the Europeans in JCPOA, the Leader said, adding that “there is much evidence. Some European companies have left. Some of them are leaving, or they say they are not sure if they will remain. The heads of European countries say different things.”

“For our economy, we cannot rely on JCPOA and the Europeans. These three countries acted against their word some thirteen or fourteen years ago; in the nuclear negotiations, they promised and didn’t keep their promise, now they should prove that they won’t repeat the same untruthfulness and prevarication this time.”

Conditions for Remaining in Iran Nuclear Deal

“During the last two years, the US violated the JCPOA several times, and Europe remained silent. Europe must compensate for that silence,” the Leader noted.

The continuation of the JCPOA is possible only if Europe provides the following concrete guarantees, the Leader stressed.

1- The US has rejected the UNSC Resolution 2231; Europe needs to issue a resolution against the US’ violation of it.

2- Europe must promise not to raise the issues of missiles and regional affairs of the Islamic Republic.

3- Europe must encounter any sanction against the Islamic Republic and explicitly stand to US’ sanctions.

4- Europe must guarantee that Iran’s oil will be completely sold. If the US can damage the sale of our oil, we must be able to sell as much oil as we want. Europeans must guarantee that they compensate for the loss, and that they buy Iran’s oil.

5- European banks must guarantee trade with the Islamic Republic. We have no conflicts with regard to these three countries; but we do not trust them, based on previous experience.

“If the Europeans linger over our demands, Iran has the right to resume its nuclear activities. When we see that the JCPOA was useless, one way forward is to restart those halted activities.”

“Our enemy has placed the war room in the treasury department, instead of the Ministry of Defence. In the same way, we must place the entity for encountering the malignancy of this enemy in the economic centre of the government, and the foreign ministry must cooperate.”

Iran Needs National Unity to Resist US Pressure: Official

Vaezi, who is widely believed to be one of the most influential cabinet members, says the country’s problems cannot be resolved if there is division among political factions.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Vaezi called on all factions, groups and parties to get united in the face of the latest US moves.

He then described the latest remarks by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as “a bunch of slogans” and said no state in the world except for a number of small countries backed the US move to withdraw from the multinational Iran nuclear deal, ISNA reported.

“The US officials imagine that they can achieve their goals in Iran by claiming that they are supporting the Iranian nation but our people know the real US. Pompeo’s statements had no impact on Iran’s stance neither inside nor outside. We have chosen our way.”

On Monday, at the Heritage Foundation, Pompeo stated that Trump’s administration has started developing “the strongest sanctions in history” if Iran does not relinquish its desire to make and own nuclear weapons.

Vaezi pointed to the ongoing talks between Iran and other parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and said he thinks Tehran and Europe can move forward step by step.

He referred to the creation of the new alliance of the US, the Zionist Regime and Saudi Arabia against Iran and said “today, we need unity more than ever. We should stop division and reach consensus on our national interests.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Vaezi said people expect the Islamic Establishment to resolve their problems.

He also said Iranian nation has shown over the past four decades that they never allow the enemies to take advantage of their divisions. “Our people get united when it comes to enemies’ plots to take advantage of our differences.”

Emir of Kuwait Reaffirms Support for Gaza Marches of Return

“The Palestine issue is the issue of the government and nation of Kuwait,” Sheikh Sabah said in a Wednesday phone conversation with Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Movement Ismail Haniyeh.

“Any harm to you will harm the Kuwaiti nation and what’s important for you is important for us and we will support the return marches till the end,” he said, according to a report by Al-Alam News Network.

The Kuwaiti emir said people across the world stand by the Palestinian nation and support its rights.

He expressed hope that God willing, the Palestinian nation will manage to overcome challenges and achieve victory over the Israeli aggressors.

Haniyeh, for his part, thanked the Kuwaiti government for supporting Palestinians in the United Nations Security Council and other international forums.

The Palestinian official said the nation will continue its tireless efforts to secure the right of return of Palestinian refugees and will work to remove the Israeli-imposed blockade of Gaza.

On March 30, Palestinians marched to the fence separating Gaza from the occupied territories at the start of a six-week protest, demanding the right to return for those driven out of their homeland.

The demonstrations turned violent after Israeli forces used tear gas and live fire against the protesters. At least 30 Palestinians were killed in the clashes, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The violence further escalated on May 14, when at least 65 Palestinians were killed and more than 2,700 others wounded by Israeli fire along the fence between the Gaza Strip and the occupied territories on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the Israeli regime.

US Officials to Suffer Same Fate of Saddam Hussein: IRGC

In a Wednesday statement, the IRGC commemorated the anniversary of the liberation of the southern city of Khorramshar from Iraqi army under Saddam back in 1980s and expressed its complete preparedness to resolutely stand against any move threatening Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The great nation of Iran will overcome any challenges posed by the enemies by maintaining its unity and under the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei,” the statement read, according to a report by Tasnim News Agency.

The IRGC said the liberation of Khorramshahr heralded a new phase in the imposed war on Iran by Iraq under Saddam and turned the table on Iraqi army, adding the liberation was a great achievement highlighting the courage of the Iranian nation.

The statement then said that the largest military attack on Iran backed by the all-out logistic and intelligence support of Western media as well as the US was thwarted by the God’s grace, the prudence of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic and people’s sacrifice.

The IRGC also said three decades after the end of the imposed war on Iran, the Iranian military forces and nation have learned that they should never ever suffer from a ‘strategic negligence’.

“The hegemonic and arrogant system as well as the leaders of the criminal, warmongering and deceitful regime of the US have come to this sense that they will suffer the same fate of Saddam in case they wage a war or inflict violence against the Islamic Republic,” the statement concluded.

The statement came in response to the latest threats by the US officials after Washington’s withdrawal from the multi-national Iran nuclear deal.

In his latest statements on Iran, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened to “crush” Iran by imposing sanctions and pressure campaign.

Pompeo said the US will try to counter Tehran’s regional influence and make sure that it never gains a nuclear weapon.

Iran to Continue Boosting Its Missile Capabilities: Shamkhani

Signs of US Decline Clearer Than Ever: Iran Official

In an interview with Aljazeera on Wednesday, Shamkhani said along with its missile program, Iran will also keep supporting resistance groups in the region.

“We will continue our support for Hamas, Islamic Jihad Movement, Hezbollah and the axis of resistance in the region,” he said, according to a report by Fars News Agency.

Touching on the situation in Yemen and Saudi Arabia’s acts of sabotage, he said while Yemen’s Ansarullah Movement welcomed Europe’s call for a ceasefire in the Arab country during the holy month of Ramadan, Saudi Arabia rejected it.

Thousands of Yemenis including women and children have been killed and many others injured in Saudi airstrikes on Yemen since March 2015. The UN has warned against the worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen over the past decades.

Shamkhani also referred to the currently severed ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia and said Tehran is ready for constructive and reasonable talks with Saudi Arabia without any preconditions.

He also dismissed the latest threats by the US officials against Iran and said the US doesn’t have the guts to wage a military war on Iran and its efforts to slap further economic sanctions on Iran will end up in failure.

In his first major foreign policy address, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday that Washington would increase its financial pressure on Iran by imposing the “strongest sanctions in history” on the Islamic Republic if Tehran refused to change the course of its foreign and domestic policy.

Shamkhani also reacted to the statements by some Russian official calling for the withdrawal of Iranian and Hezbollah forces from Syria and said the Islamic Republic will never leave Syria because its presence is at the request of the Syrian government.

On the possible adventurism of the US in the region, Shamkhani said Iran will give a direct and immediate crushing response to any violence by the US.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he also referred to the latest violence by the Zionist regime against Syria and the Arab country’s response to the military violation and said the Zionist regime has received a clear message that any act of violence would be faced with direct and crushing response.

Medicinal Herbs Used to Make Dolls for Visually Challenged Kids

It has been five years that Mojdeh Daneshpajooh has been making dolls.

“We had a lot of roses, and we decided to give them to our friends as gift. So, we made bags with cloth and filled them with flowers. Later on, they turned into Baji dolls,” she told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

“By making Baji dolls, we intended to introduce traditional and herbal medicines to children, but later on, we thought the dolls could be made in such a way that visually challenged children can use them.”

“We made some alterations in them (the doll), so that they would be able to use the dolls as well. Therefore, we designed their faces in relief, so that those unable to see would be able to touch the faces of the dolls. We also attached bells to them, so that they could be heard as well. Of course, the idea was mostly inspired by the Iran Museum of Dolls and Culture,” she added.

The doll maker and designer says she and her team also made “Southern” and “Kurdish” dolls with medicinal herbs native to the two regions.

“The Southern Baji Doll received an award at the Novel Ideas Festival organized by the Centre for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults,” she said.

She has studied Fabric and Clothes Design and is familiar with the costumes of ethnic groups in different regions across Iran.

“For example, the Southern Baji has a veil, with clothes made with samite. The Kurdish Bajis also have headscarves similar to the ones worn by Kurdish women,” she said.

She further noted that Baji dolls are simple.

“We would be happy to see children becoming interested in making such dolls. In the Iran Museum of Dolls and Culture, different doll making workshops are organized for children and young adults, and I think that section is very attractive. If we can encourage children to spend part of their time on making crafts during the day, we have done something positive.

She says “we spent part of our childhood in crowded families with grandfathers and grandmothers.”

“We got familiar with medicinal herbs in such an atmosphere, but the kids of the present generation are strangers to that atmosphere. It is important for us to see children are familiar with different smells and can tell the difference between the aroma of different types of herbs,” she noted.

The three-strong team, comprising Mojdeh Daneshpajooh, Hengameh Hakimian and Nargess Teimoorifard, have made other dolls, including “Chaharshanbe Khatun” (Wednesday’s Lady) and “Chellezari,” and now are working on the folklore of different regions and make dolls based on that folklore.

She also explained about stories narrated with dolls.

“We very much would like to have books along with the dolls,” she said.

The team has already registered “Baji,” and “Chaharshanbe Khatun,” but no longer produce them these days. Instead, they are focusing on their stories.

Attempt to Hijack Passenger Plane Flying over Iran Fails

The attempt happened in skies near Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province, when a person carrying a knife tried to enter the plane’s cockpit.

But the pilot locked the door and then crew of the plane managed to disarm the perpetrator and lock him up in the toilet.

No casualties were reported in the incident, according to a report by Azad News Agency (ANA).

State-Run Saudi Outlet Publishes Photos of Bin Salman in Bid to Dispel Rumours

The photos were published early Wednesday by Saudi Press Agency, which claimed they were taken in a Cabinet meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday.

While the Crown Prince’s fans might be delighted to find him alive, the date of the photos could not be verified.

The SPA also reported on Tuesday that bin Salman had a phone conversation with Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas.

Also on Tuesday, the crown prince held phone talks with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the latest developments in the region, particularly the Yemen crisis, according to a statement by the French government.

This is while bin Salman has largely retreated from public view since prolonged heavy gunfire was heard at the royal palace in Riyadh on April 21.

He was allegedly photographed at the opening of the Qiddiya project, Saudi Arabia’s biggest cultural, sports and entertainment site, on April 28, but he has been absent from several major state meetings and ceremonies held in recent weeks.

Interestingly, when US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Saudi Arabia in late April, no photos or video footage of the crown prince meeting with him were released.

Speculations fuelled by his public withdrawal went as far as claiming bin Salman had been shot twice in the April 21 incident and could be dead.

Perhaps to head off talk of assassination, a palace courtier last week released a photo of bin Salman along with King Hamad of Bahrain, President Sisi of Egypt and Abu Dhabi ruler Mohammed bin Zayed, which was allegedly taken recently. But it was impossible to verify when the photo of the four men standing by a swimming pool was taken.

It seems only a live television appearance could silence rumors about bin Salman’s conditions.
