The Iranian spokesperson also underlined that the cultural approach to the civilizational sphere of the regional countries has become growingly stronger, as these cultural elements are known as factors unifying the regional people.

The spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and head of Centre for Public and Media Diplomacy finally noted that the Yalda Night will be inscribed as a regional intangible cultural heritage on the UNESCO’s list next year.

Iran Unveils Homegrown Yogurt Starter Culture

In a ceremony on Saturday, Vice President Sattari unveiled the Iranian yogurt starter culture that has been produced by the local firm ‘Biology Fermentation Company’.

The new product prepares the ground for the production of probiotic foods, such as high-quality yogurt with taste and aroma palatable to Iranian consumers, and obviates the need for the import of a strategic item widely used in the dairy industry.

In remarks at the event, Sattari stressed the need for the development of domestic technologies in the food industry to end reliance on the foreign products.

The Iranian knowledge-based companies can fulfill the domestic needs for modern technologies in the food industry, such as the animal husbandry and fishery, the vice president added.

He further hailed the new domestically-made starter culture as a major achievement in the use of probiotics in the food industry that reduces the dairy industry’s reliance on imports.

The vice-president then pointed to the large variety of palates and tastes in dairy products across Iran, describing such ecological diversity as a valuable capacity for competition in the global market.

Biology Fermentation Company has made headways in the probiotic food and dairy product industry and has turned into a model for the other knowledge-based companies, Sattari added.

Iran, Pakistan to Open Third Border Crossing Soon: Minister

The Rimdan border crossing, situated in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, was inaugurated in a ceremony on Saturday morning, attended by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami and Minister for Defence Production of Pakistan Zubaida Jalal.

In remarks after inauguration of the second official border crossing between Iran and Pakistan, Eslami described opening of new border crossings as a basic necessity for the development of Sistan and Balouchestan Province.

He also noted that Rimdan border crossing has formally come into operation according to the decisions made by the heads of the two states for the expansion and facilitation of bilateral exchanges.

The minister said the Rimdan border crossing in Dashtyari county is the second land border crossing between Iran and Pakistan along the border of Sistan and Balouchestan Province.

“Considering the needs of people in Sistan and Balouchestan, other official border crossings will be set up soon,” the Iranian minister noted, calling for more attention to and greater investment in this sector.

Iran will soon inaugurate the third border crossing, called Pishin, in cooperation with the Pakistani government, Eslami stated, adding that opening of the next official border crossing will enhance trade and commercial exchanges between the two countries and will also facilitate travels by the Iranian and Pakistani people, specifically the residents in border areas of the two neighbors.

Iranian Minister to Visit Russia for Talks on Oil Market

The Iranian Petroleum Minister is expected to leave Tehran for Moscow on Sunday.

Zangeneh will hold meetings with Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak and Russian Minister of Energy Nikolay Shulginov in the upcoming visit to discuss the most recent developments in the global oil market.

The oil and energy ministers of members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC allies, known collectively as OPEC+, have agreed recently to increase production by 500,000 barrels per day beginning in January 2021. They have also decided to hold monthly meetings in the coming months to discuss a further rise in output.

The current production cut of 7.7 million bpd by the OPEC+ will change in January 2021, as the new increase in oil output will bring the total production cuts to 7.2 million bpd.

Iran, Venezuela, and Libya are exempt from output cuts.

“We’ve always said that,” Zarif reiterated.
Zarif was also asked whether Iran has drawn a line between the Afghan militia group Liwa Fatemiyoun, also known as Fatemiyoun Brigade, and Afghan nationals.

“If the Afghan government is interested, these can be the best forces that can help Afghanistan,” he replied.

As announced TOLO News, the full interview with Zarif will be aired at 21 pm on Monday, December 21, 2020.

Iran’s President Congratulates Qatari Emir on National Day

In his message, President Rouhani expressed hope the two sides will further boost mutual cooperation by tapping into the numerous potentialities and capabilities which exist.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Your Excellency and the people of your country on the arrival of Qatar’s National Day,” read the message.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Emirate of Qatar have always enjoyed cordial and close relations,” said the president in his message.

“I am confident that in light of the will of both countries’ ranking authorities, this friendly relationship will continue in the future to serve the interests of the two nations,” part of the message read.

“I hope by utilizing the numerous existing potentialities and capabilities, we will see further promotion of mutual cooperation on all fronts,” said the president.

“I ask God Almighty to bestow health and success upon you, and prosperity and dignity upon the friendly and brotherly people of Qatar,” he said.

Third Wave of COVID-19 Contained in Iran Thanks to People’s Cooperation: Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani thanked citizens for observing health protocols and restrictions imposed to stem the spread of the disease.

“The third wave of the coronavirus outbreak was extremely formidable, but people’s unity, rapport and trust in medical personnel saved the country from this daunting wave,” he noted.

The president then touched upon figures and reports on the status of the coronavirus disease in the country.

“Fortunately, with the measures adopted, the enforcement of restrictions and people’s cooperation in respecting health protocols, now there are no ‘red’ cities across the country, which has made us very happy and which has been the result of people’s efforts and cooperation,” he noted.

However, he noted that any laxity in abiding by health protocols could result in another surge in the disease.

“The fact that we do not have any ‘red’ cities now does not mean this situation is lasting and permanent, and inattention to health regulations will definitely create problems for us,” he said.
“So, wearing masks and observing social distancing rules should remain on the agenda, and social meetings as well as family gatherings should be avoided,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said the country takes pride in witnessing a positive economic growth rate in the second and third quarters of 2020 despite enemy’s sanctions and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the country’s economic growth is expected to remain positive for the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

‘Illegal Migration Has Countless Consequences for Women, Children’

Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar made the comment while elaborating on the issue of migration.

“The issue of migration is a global issue, especially the issue of illegal migration,” he said.

“Although migration, per se, can be a positive move, as mentioned in some verses of the holy Koran, … today we are facing different types of migration some of which cause numerous harms to humans,” she said.

“Today, the issue of the ‘World of Citizens’ has emerged, and it needs its own requirements, and if migration is not legal, it will have dire consequences for individuals and countries alike,” Ebtekar noted.

“Now, one of the global crises which we are unfortunately witnessing is forced migration due to war, problems and environmental destruction,” she said.

“Things happened in recent decades and prompted the migration of many Afghans and Iraqis, and we know it has been years that 3 to 4 million of dear Afghan people are living in our country,” she said.

“Iran has a good track record when it comes to hosting and supporting migrants, and has tried to offer them the necessary services as well, so much so that they even enjoy free coronavirus treatment services,” the vice president underscored.

“But other migrations which took place across our region such as [the ones prompted by] problems in Iraq or Afghanistan due to attacks by the ISIS terrorist group resulted in numerous harms,” she said.

Ebtekar added international organizations’ failure to offer the necessary services has added to the problems.

“Today, the world is facing forced migrations as well as illegal migrations which have gripped many countries,” she said.

She then touched upon the documentary “The Path of the Wind” by Mona Zandi which depicts the problems facing migrants.

European Parliament’s Resolution Amounts to ‘Obsequity’ to Biden: Iran

Amir Abdollahian

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the special aide to Iran’s Parliament speaker, said in a tweet that the resolution is tantamount to the violation of the rights of 80 million Iranians.

“Those behind the killing of hundreds of children suffering from special diseases due to sanctions, and those hosting hypocritical terrorists have no right to talk about human rights and demand the release of spies and dual-nationality murderers of the Iranian scientist,” the top official said in his tweet.

“Europe should care about its own interests,” he added.
