Iran Strongly Condemns Assassination of Afghan Shiite Cleric

Shiite Afghan cleric Mohammad-Jafar Tawakkoli who was assassinated by unknown gunmen in Herat on Sunday, June 24, 2018

In a Monday statement, Qassemi expressed regret over the assassination of Mohammad-Jafar Tawakkoli, a religious scholar from the western province of Herat, and said such attacks which have recently gained momentum seem to be carried out with the aim of creating division among various groups and religions in Afghanistan.

He then expressed sympathy with the family of the Shiite cleric and said the Islamic Republic remains confident that, like in the past, the vigilant Muslim nation of Afghanistan will foil the plots hatched by enemies and those who seek to divide the Afghan people.

Qassemi also noted that the enemies will fail to break the unity of religious groups in Afghanistan.

The prominent cleric was assassinated Sunday night by unknown gunmen. People of Herat have organized sit-ins and protests in front of the governor-general’s office to demand an investigation into the incident.

Assassination of Shiite clerics is not new in Afghanistan. Sheik Abdulvahed Saberi and Yuonos Alavi were also assassinated in previous years and their murderers have not yet been identified.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani have condemned the killing of known religious scholars and called it an unforgivable crime.

Iran Hails Erdogan’s “Promising” Victory in Turkey Elections

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Qassemi referred to the victory of Turkish President Erdogan and his party (AK Party) in Sunday’s snaps presidential and parliamentary elections and said the new condition heralds a promising future for relations between Tehran and Ankara.

“We can enhance our cooperation with Turkey in various areas and contribute significantly to the peace and security of the region,” he said.

Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party claimed victory in Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections held on June 24.

The election authority confirmed Erdogan’s victory with nearly 98-percent of the votes counted. He has won over 52 percent of the ballots against his main opposition challenger, Muharrem Inje, who garnered just over 30 percent. Opposition officials cried foul as soon as the results began to come in.

“Iran Optimistic EU, Russia, China Could Save JCPOA”

In his weekly presser on Monday, Qassemi underlined that following the US pullout of the deal, the Islamic Republic of Iran has developed new plans for protecting its interests under the JCPOA.

He underlined that the US is seeking to force Iran into exiting the deal by exerting pressure on the Islamic Republic.

He also described the Iran nuclear deal as strong and added given the internal mechanism of the deal developed by the vigilant Iranian negotiators during their talks with the P5+1 group of countries, the JCPOA remains firm and in place even after the US illegal withdrawal from the deal.

After the US pullout of the deal back in May, the Islamic Republic has launched comprehensive talks with the remaining sides of the JCPOA urging them to guarantee its rights under the deal.

Qassemi said Iran and the European states hold daily contacts with each other on various issues and added the Islamic Republic remains optimistic about the results of efforts by Europe, China and Russia to guarantee Iran’s right demands under the JCPOA.

Portugal, the defending European champion, is tied with Spain at the top of the group with four points each. Iran is right behind with three, thanks to its 1-0 victory over Morocco in its opening game.

Despite their 1-0 defeat against Spain, Team Melli’s fate is still in its own hands.

Iran and Portugal will meet each other in their last group match of the cup at the Mordovia Arena, Saransk, on Monday night.

Saeid Ezatollahi, who was absent in the first game but did well in the Iran-Spain match0, told Khabar Online in an interview on Sunday that Team Melli, seen as Asia’s best defensive team, could stop Cristiano Ronaldo, who so far has scored four times in the tournament.

“When people talk about Portugal, they just talk about Cristiano Ronaldo. But we have 23 Ronaldos in our team. We are a ‘team’. Is Portugal the same?”

 

Ready to Fight to Death

Ezatollahi said the Iranian squad has nothing to lose and is not afraid of Portugal.

“In the past two games, we tried to do our best so people can be proud of us. We are happy that we have a chance to advance [to the knockout stage],” he said.

“Without a doubt, it will be a difficult game. But we are not afraid and we want to fight hard for our goals,” he said.

“We know that 80 million people are watching us. We are aware of the country’s difficult situation and know that Team Melli’s success could bring smile to the faces of our fans. So these guys are ready to fight to the death,” he said.

Team Melli will advance to the competition’s next stage for the first time in its history with a win over Portugal, regardless of the outcome of Spain-Morocco match.

Queiroz, who also coached Iran at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has called Monday’s game against Portugal “the most interesting and important match in my seven years with Iran.”

“Iran to Fire 1,000 Missiles at Riyadh on First Day of Saudi Invasion”

Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi, former Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), says Iranian missiles will raze to the ground the royal palaces of the Saudi king in Riyadh in retaliation for any Saudi invasion of Iran.

In a Sunday address to a military gathering in Fars province, the senior official referred to Iran’s regional power and said the enemies should realize that Iran is the first power of the region and no regional issue could be resolved without Iran’s presence, a report by Fars News Agency said.

He said no regional state can pose a threat to Iran and added the country is a regional player and “Saudi Arabia knows it well that if it acts like a fool and invade Iran, the Islamic Republic will fire 1,000 missiles at the Saudis palaces in Riyadh on the first day of the invasion.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the former IRGC commander said the US has lost its major allies in the region and added Iran’s army has special plans for every scenario.

“The Zionists have already lost most of their power in the region. If the regime had enough power, it would remove Syrian President from power,” he noted.

He then referred to the growing power of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement and said today Hezbollah with 80,000 missiles has turned into a permanent threat against the Zionist regime.

Rahim-Safavi also noted that the IRGC managed to impose heavy defeats on the US in Syria.

Iran President Congratulates Erdogan on Winning Turkey Elections

In a Monday letter to Erdogan, the Iranian president expressed the hope that the mutual friendly and brotherly relations between Iran and Turkey would enhance further in the new term based on the cultural, historical and religious commonalities between the two sides.

President Rouhani also hoped that the governments of Iran and Turkey could establish closer cooperation and pave the way for finding rapid solutions to the regional problems and enhancement of peace, security and welfare of the region.

Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party claimed victory in Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections held on June 24.

The election authority confirmed Erdogan’s victory with nearly 98-percent of the votes counted. Erdogan’s triumph will get him sweeping new executive powers under a constitutional shake-up approved in a referendum last year. They include complete control of the cabinet and the power to appoint senior judges and officials, including unelected vice-presidents. The president will also have the power to issue decrees with the force of law.

Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack against Ethiopian PM’s Rally

In a Sunday statement, Qassemi rejected any use of violence, and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

He also expressed Iran’s solidarity with Ethiopian people and government in their path towards progress and democracy.

Ethiopian officials say two people have died and dozens more are injured, after an explosion at a huge political rally for the new premier.

He was whisked away immediately after the blast, thought to be from a grenade thrown amid thousands of people in Addis Ababa’s Meskel Square.

Nine police officials, including the deputy head of the Addis Ababa police commission, have been arrested over alleged security lapses, Al Jazeera reported.

Iran, World’s Fifth Country to Produce Hemodialysis Machine

This has turned Iran into the fifth country in the world which can design and produce the cutting-edge and complicated machine. The other four include Japan, Germany, Italy and Sweden.

In a press conference in Tehran, Behrouz Sabokdast, the CEO of an Iranian knowledge-based company involved in the production of hemodialysis machine, said it was designed and produced to offer medical services to the patients with chronic kidney failures who need to be on dialysis three times a week, a report by Tasnim News Agency said.

“We began to design and produce the machine under international sanctions back in 2013 and after two years we obtained the full know-how to develop the required software and hardware,” he added.

“We didn’t receive any part of the technology from other countries. Rather, we put hard efforts into acquiring the know-how inside the country without relying on any foreign company,” he said.

He said the knowledge-based company is capable of producing about 1,000 hemodialysis machines annually and expressed hope that the firm would export between 100 and 200 machines to other countries like Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kenya in the near future.

The CEO said at least 70 machines have already been installed in at least 10 medical centres in a number of cities including Tehran, Qom, Hamadan and the quake-hit Sarpol-e Zahab.

He said the number of dialysis patients in Iran has increased by six percent over the past years, adding this means the company needs to install 400-500 other machines in the country.

750-Year-Old Pulpit Found in Ancient Iranian Village

The minbar was repaired and unveiled in Lat-Qazi mosque in the 7,000-year-old Arangeh village in Alborz Province, west of the capital Tehran.

The wooden minbar has been restored by Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), ISNA reported.

750-Year-Old Pulpit Found in Ancient Iranian VillageMohammad Ali Najafi, the governor of Alborz province, told the unveiling ceremony that Iranians should pay more attention to protecting their cultural heritage.

“We should work to preserve our heritage. We are proud of Arangeh and this minbar, which shows the depth of the religious belief of its people,” he said.

The historical minbar has six steps and bears engraved decorations, including intricate carvings and lacquer work.

Among techniques employed in its adornment are woodwork and strap-work based on geometric designs. It also bears engravings from the Holy Quran verses.
