Iranian Army Ground Force to Hold Drills Along Oman Sea Coasts

The “special and targeted war game”, codenamed Eqtedar (Power)-99, will kick off on Tuesday with the participation of airborne units, special forces and rapid reaction brigades, Army Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari said.

The troops attending the drill will be receiving logistical and combat support from the Air Force and the Army Ground Force Airborne Division at the coastal zones, he added.

The general noted that a combination of homegrown and creative military tactics will be practiced in the upcoming “offense exercise” proportional to the new structure of the Ground Force.

“The main purpose of the war game is to evaluate the mobility and offense power of the rapid reaction brigades and corps and the mobile offense units of the Army Ground Force,” he noted, pointing to plans to practice rapid and decisive response to threats and extensive blitz on the hypothetical enemy’s coasts.

The Iranian military forces have held several massive exercises over the past few weeks.

In remarks on the sidelines of a large-scale exercise that the IRGC Aerospace Force had staged in the Central Desert of Iran on Saturday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said such drills indicate the Iranian Armed Force’s preparedness in all arenas.

India Sends First Shipment of Cargo Handling Equipment to Chabahar

He said that the first Indian consignment of strategic loading and unloading equipment has arrived in Chabahar as part of a contract to develop ‘Shahid Beheshti port’ of Chabahar.

Behrouz Aqaei said the Indian investment company would make an investment of $85 million in the Iranian port under the long-term contract, adding that the project includes two port cranes worth $8.5 million.

The newly-imported apparatus would be utilized for loading and unloading freight in the first phase of development of Shahid Beheshti port, he added.

Aqaei also highlighted the role of Chabahar in extra-regional trade, called on the Iranian and foreign investors to seize the opportunities in Chabahar, and made it clear that the investment made by a country poses no obstacle to the participation of other investors in the Chabahar development plan.

INSTEX Failed Because Europeans Weren’t Brave Enough: Iran

No Legal Verdict against Iranian Banks in Bahrain: CBI Official

The CBI noted the reason why INSTEX was unsuccessful was that the Europeans were not brave enough.

“INSTEX failed to work because the European countries did not have enough courage to exert their independent and national economic power; moreover, they found no way to finance INSTEX,” said the CBI’s Public Relations Office.

“Obviously, Iran is not prepared to replace its financial resources simply to preserve the European channel and import goods which it is able to procure through other channels as well,” the CBI added.

The comments came after the German foreign ministry announced that that INSTEX had been highly ineffective.

INSTEX was basically aimed at facilitating transactions with Iran in currencies other than the US dollar and using systems other than SWIFT amid US sanctions.

Iran Vows Crushing Response as US B-52 Bombers Patrol over Persian Gulf Again

In a tweet on Sunday night, Mohammad Javad Zarif said Washington should have spent the cost of these flights on US citizens’ health instead.

“If patrols by B-52 bombers are aimed at intimidating or warning Iran, you should have spent those billions of dollars on providing health for your taxpayers,” said the top diplomat.

“Although we haven’t started a war for more than 200 years, we will not hesitate to crush aggressors. You may ask your close friends who supported Saddam [Hussein, the former Iraqi dictator],” he added.

For the second time in as many weeks, the Air Force has flown B-52 bombers over the Middle East in what are known as “presence patrols,” according to officials.

Marine Corps Gen. Frank McKenzie, the commander of U.S. Central Command, said the bomber task force missions are meant to demonstrate the US military’s “continuing commitment to regional security.”

“Short-term deployments of strategic assets are an important part of our defensive posture in the region,” said McKenzi.

“The training opportunity and continued integration with regional partners improves readiness and delivers a clear and consistent message in the operational environment to both friends and potential adversaries, alike,” he added.

The mission was the fifth bomber task force in the Middle East in the “last few months,” US Air Force officials said.

Iran Says Payment of Its UN Contribution Obstructed by US Bans

“Despite restrictions caused by the United States’ unilateral sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has, in recent years, always paid its UN membership fee using the few financial transfer channels available to it,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh on Sunday.

“This year, too, as the US blocked channels available to transfer financial resources, Iran has been in talks with the UN Treasury since long ago in order for the world body to introduce a safe channel [for money transfer],” he added.

“Iran’s latest proposal in this regard was to pay this debt by having the UN use Iran’s seized assets in South Korea with the permission of the Central Bank, which is being discussed with the UN Secretariat and the necessary arrangements are being made,” said the spokesman.

“Given that the United States has encroached upon Iran’s international assets before, the Islamic Republic of Iran insists that the UN not use an American intermediary bank to receive our country’s membership fee, or that this organization guarantee the financial transfer channel,” he said.

His comments came after media reports that UN Secretary General has asked the General Assembly to strip Iran of its right to vote because of the country’s unpaid contributions.

Nuclear Deal Still Alive Because of Iran, Not E3: Zarif

“E3 leaders—who rely on signature of OFAC functionaries to carry out their obligations under JCPOA—have done ZILCH to maintain JCPOA,” Zarif tweeted on Sunday.

“Remember [French President] Emmanuel Macron’s stillborn initiative or UK non-payment of court-ordered debt?” he asked.

“JCPOA is alive because of Iran and not E3, Le Drian,” Zarif added, addressing the French foreign minister.

Zarif also posted another tweet, apparently in criticism of Le Drian and his government’s policies.

“Dear colleague: You kick-started your cabinet career with arms sales to Saudi war criminals. Avoid absurd nonsense about Iran,” the Iranian top diplomat said.

“Reality check: YOU are destabilizing OUR region. Stop protecting criminals who chainsaw their critics and use YOUR arms to slaughter children in Yemen,” he added, blasting the West’s support for the Saudi war on Yemen.

Zarif’s comments came after Le Drian accused Iran of building up its “nuclear weapons” capacity.

Le Drian told France’s Journal du Dimanche newspaper that Tehran and Washington must immediately return to the 2015 nuclear agreement.

“The Trump administration chose what it called the maximum pressure campaign on Iran. The result was that this strategy only increased the risk and the threat,”

“This has to stop because Iran and – I say this clearly – is in the process of acquiring nuclear [weapons] capacity.”

Iran has stopped implementing some of its commitments under the nuclear deal in reaction to the other parties’ failure to deliver on their commitments.

Earlier this month the country started pressing ahead with plans to enrich uranium to 20 percent fissile strength at its Fordow nuclear plant. That is the level Tehran achieved before striking the deal with world powers.

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff of the president’s office, made the comment in a tweet on Saturday.

“Although the United States’ recent sanctions have no use other than just being a show, they are another sign proving the wickedness of the criminal Trump administration,” he said.

Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Gets Refueled

In a statement on Saturday, the AEOI made clarifications in that regard.

“The issue of the factory producing uranium metal, which is stipulated in Article 4 of ‘The Strategic Action to Lift Sanctions and Protect the Iranian Nation’s Rights Act’ and which the AEOI is obliged to do as instructed by the Parliament, and the issue of the production of advanced fuel (silicide) to be used at the Tehran Research Reactor are two completely different issues,” read the AEOI’s statement.

“The AEOI has not yet provided the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with information on the Design Information Questionnaire (DIQ) for the uranium metal production plant, which is the subject of Article 4 of the Statute of the IAEA. This information will be provided after the required measures are adopted, and duly at the specified time stipulated in the relevant law,” the statement added.

“As also mentioned in the IAEA’s recent report, the plan to produce advanced fuel (silicide) was presented to the IAEA for the first time over two years ago, and during this time, complementary information as well as information on the design information questionnaire has been sent to the IAEA in several phases,” it added.

“Moreover, it is reminded that in the early 1980s, the IAEA was sent a report on the successful implementation, at a preliminary level and to a small extent, of research and development work regarding the production of uranium metal for peaceful and conventional purposes,” the statement read.

“It needs to be explained that uranium metal is an intermediary product in the process of producing advanced fuel (silicide), which is immediately produced afterwards during the non-stop production process,” it explained.

“It is hoped that the IAEA will avoid mentioning unnecessary details in it reports to eliminate any grounds for misunderstanding,” the statement further said.

Legal Proceedings Underway into Case of Seized South Korean Ship: Iran

Saeed Khatibzadeh made the comment on Saturday in response to a question by reporters about rumours on the possible release of the detained vessel.

“Legal proceedings are underway into the case of the South Korean ship seized in the Persian Gulf waters upon a judicial order due to polluting the environment,” he said.

“So, any developments in the case are subject to decisions by judicial officials,” the spokesperson added.

“The stances and decisions of the Judiciary are merely announced by its spokesperson, and any remarks made in this regard by people other than relevant authorities have no legal grounds,” he noted.

Tehran Vows to Sue US If It Keeps Harrassing Iranian Diplomats

In a statement on Saturday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran has issued an official memorandum in that regard and submitted it through the Tehran embassy of Switzerland, which represents US interests in Iran.

“In this memo, the American side has been warned that Iran will bring the US to the International Court of Justice if Washington fails to stop its illegal actions against Iranian diplomats at international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whose headquarters are located on US soil,” the spokesman said.

“It has been a long time that the US government has, in breach of international law, imposed many restrictions on Iranian diplomats and their families at international organizations in the Unties States, and these actions have disrupted and obstructed the performance of diplomats of Iran and several other countries,” the spokesman underlined.

“Despite its commitments as a host of several international organizations, the US has never been a good host, and has, through the history of the UN, tried to harass and annoy the diplomats as wells families and children of the diplomats of countries with which it has bilateral differences,” he said.
