Iran Strongly Condemns Israeli Attack on Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Mosque

“The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically condemns the attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Qibla of Muslims, and the killing and wounding of Palestinian worshippers by Israeli forces on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan which marks the International Quds Day,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh on Saturday.

“These war crimes once again proved to the whole world the criminal nature of the illegitimate Israeli regime and highlighted the need for prompt international action to stop the violation of the most basic principles of international human rights,” he added.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns this blatant crime against humanity, and expresses condolences to families of those killed in this incident and wishes a rapid recovery for those wounded, and at the same time calls on the United Nations and other relevant international institutions to fulfill their definitive responsibility of dealing with this war crime,” he noted.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is proudly standing by Palestinian people and asks all world countries, particularly Islamic states, to discharge their historical responsibility and rally behind Palestinian people and stand up to Israeli aggressors,” he said.

Abbas Araqchi, who leads the Iranian delegation at the talks, noted Washington has announced its readiness to remove a considerable part of sanctions, but “from our perspective, this is not complete.”

“Negotiations will continue until all of our demands are met,” he said.

“If our demands are met, Iran is also serious about returning to full compliance with the JCPOA,” Araqchi explained.

Araqchi further said all sides are seriously working to find a solution to the issues at hand and revive the JCPOA.

“Today, the first meeting of the [JCPOA] Joint Commission in the new round talks in Vienna was held,”

The working group discussing the lifting of sanctions and the working group tasked with handling nuclear issues also began their work, he said.

Iran, P4+1 Resolved to Reach Conclusion in ‘Shortest Time Possible’

The participants decided to immediately start expert-level and technical consultations and work on the drafts.

All parties once again underlined their seriousness to reach a conclusion in the shortest time possible.

As in previous rounds, the Iranian delegation was chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, and the meeting was chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Enrique Mora.

Bilateral meetings were held between Araqchi and Mora before the plenary meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei noted the issue of Palestine remains the most important and very much a live issue for the whole Muslim community.

“There are two significant factors which determine the future,” said the Leader in a televised message on the occasion of International Quds Day.

“First and foremost is to continue resistance inside Palestinian territories as well as reinforce the trend of struggles and martyrdom,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

“The second factor is international support by Muslim governments and nations around the world for those fighting for the cause of Palestine,” said the Leader.

“Ayatollah Khamenei said unity among Muslims on the issue of Quds will lead to a nightmare for the Israeli regime and its American and European supporters,” he added.

“The failed ‘deal of the century’ scheme and the move by a handful of weak Arab states to normalize their relations with Tel Aviv are a desperate attempt to run away from that nightmare,” he explained.

The Leader said the Israeli regime has turned occupied Palestine into a terrorist base.

So, he added, fighting the despotic regime of Israel amounts to fighting terrorism.

“Their biggest weakness is that any tactical move can be a strategic defeat for them, which means this regime can be destroyed with just one operation,” said Major General Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

He said 90% of Tel Aviv’s trade is conducted by sea, adding Israel’s maritime activities are “very vulnerable” and can be seriously disrupted very easily.

“The massive explosion at their factories producing air defence engines and satellite-guided missiles indicates their vulnerability; and afterwards, the major Haifa refinery was exploded,” said General Salami.

“Their spies were killed in Erbil in Iraq,” he said.
The top general added Israeli air defence systems failed to intercept a missile which landed near the Dimona nuclear facility.

Iran Urges Muslim World to Keep Flames of Palestinian Struggle Alive

“Imam Khomeini’s everlasting and historical initiative of designating the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the ‘International Quds Day’ has kept the cause of the liberation of Palestine alive and unmasked the Zionists’ tyranny and crimes against the defenceless Palestinian people,” read the statement released on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

“Over the past years, the International Quds Day has turned into a symbol of fighting occupation and bullying among Muslims and all freedom-seekers across the world, and has played a unique role in thwarting the wicked and anti-human schemes of aggressors and bullies in the world such as the United States and Israel against Palestinian people,” the statement added.

“Today we keep the cause of International Quds Day alive at a time when the Israeli regime’s apartheid tyranny and crimes as well as the violation of Palestinians’ rights have intensified, and, by marking this day, Muslims and freedom-seekers around the world play an invaluable role in boosting the morale of Palestinian people and warding off the Israeli regime’s diabolical policies, especially its destruction of holy Quds and forcing its residents out of their homes,” said the statement.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes the establishment of tranquility and lasting peace in Palestine will be possible only through the settlement of key issues associated with the Palestine crisis, including the cessation of occupation, the return of refugees, the determination of Palestine’s future system based on a referendum attended by all main residents of Palestine and finally the establishment of an integrated Palestinian government,” read the statement.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran insists on Tehran’s pressing ahead with its policy of supporting Palestinian people’s liberation struggles and standing up to usurper and criminal occupiers, and calls on all world nations, especially the dignified and resistant people of Iran to participate in programs scheduled to honour the International Quds Day (May 07, 2021), asking all Muslim nations and governments to put pressure on superpowers as well as official and international authorities to make them fulfill their legal human responsibility of backing Palestinian people, ending the occupation, stopping the Israeli regime’s savage crimes in Bait-ul-Muqaddas and their acts of aggressions plus tension-provoking moves in the region, and [all Muslim nations and governments] to keep the flame of resistance and struggles alive in order to preserve the voice of justice which calls for refusal to forgo Palestine,” it added.

Iran Expresses Regret over Swiss Diplomat’s Death in Tehran

“After being informed of this tragic event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been following up on the issue through legal authorities, including the police,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh.

He said the Ministry has been in contact with the Swiss Embassy in Tehran in the past few hours.

“As for the cause of the incident, we are awaiting the result of the investigation by competent authorities,” he added.

“The body of the deceased has been taken to the forensics lab for necessary examinations, and will be handed over to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran after the examinations are completed,” he noted.

Khatibzadeh said the Swiss ambassador to Tehran held meetings with relevant authorities at the Foreign Ministry today to exchange views on various aspects of the issue.

“Within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Iranian Foreign Ministry will take all the required measures and provide any cooperation needed in this regard,” the spokesman noted.

Iran, Syria Reiterate Support for Palestine ahead of Quds Day

During the Wednesday telephone conversation, Foreign Minister Zarif expressed Iran’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the Syrian government, and underlined the necessity of respecting the country’s Constitution and the legitimacy of Syria’s presidential elections.

Foreign Minister Mekdad, in turn, presented a report on his country’s domestic situation, its preparedness to hold the presidential elections, and Syria’s relations with its neighbours.

He also invited the Iranian foreign minister to visit Syria, which was welcomed by Foreign Minister Zarif.

Regional issues including the developments of Iraq and Palestine, all-out fight against terrorism and the condemnation of the Zionist regime’s attacks against Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon were among other issues discussed in the phone call.

The two sides also pointed to the International Quds Day, and once again stressed their all-out support for the Palestinian nation.

Iranian-Made COVID-19 Vaccine ‘Fakhra’ Passes Phase I of Clinical Trials

“Today, phase one of the Fakhra vaccine trial injections ended, and God willing, phase two will begin after the collection and final analysis of the data,” said the manager of the Fakhra vaccine project.

He said as many as 135 volunteers were inoculated in the first phase.
“In phase one, some 17,000 people from across the country registered [for vaccination],” he added.

“Some 3500 were admitted through the website, and 495 of them entered the screening stage,” the project manager added.

“Finally, the clinical team selected 135 people for vaccination, and fortunately, the general condition of all 135 individuals is satisfactory,” he added.

“Those selected for inoculation included 41 women, and the rest were men, with an age range of 18-55 years old,” he noted.

He said the difference between phase one and two is in the number of the people receiving the shots.

“In phase two, 500 people will be chosen by the clinical team and will receive the jab,” he said.

African Zebra Dies in Iran Due to Stress, Infection, Delay at Customs: Zoo Officials

Three African zebras, two females and one male, were recently transferred from the Netherlands to a zoo in Safadasht, but the male zebra died before arriving at the zoo. A video was also released showing unpleasant circumstances under which the animals had been imported.

“A survey by the team of veterinarians at the zoo showed that the reason behind the death was extreme stress and internal infection during the transfer as well as unwarranted delay at the customs,” the zoo authorities explained.

They particularly put the blame on Iranian customs officials for delaying the process of clearing the three zebras.

“The Turkish customs cleared the shipment without delay, and the three zebras arrived at the Iranian customs,” said officials at the zoo.

“Unfortunately, as soon as the animals arrived at Bazargan customs, and because of mismanagement by guards inside the customs, some individuals rushed towards the vehicle to take photos of the zebras,” they added.

“This caused the zebras to stampede and get out of the vehicle and, unfortunately, fall inside a water canal at the customs a video of which has been published on social media,” the zoo authorities said.

At last, they added, one of the zebras lost its life while being taken to the zoo.

“Authorities at the Bazargan customs were expected to understand the issue with sensitivity and facilitate the process of the clearance of the animals, so that such a thing would not have happened,” they complained.
