Iran to Conditionally Extend Its Deal with IAEA for One Month Today: Sources

Iran Sees ‘Positive Outlook’ for Ties with IAEA after Latest Report

A source told Nour News, the news agency close to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, that the one-month conditional extension of the deal is possible, but if finalized, the other party will be expected to give in to Iran’s legal demands so as to facilitate the path of reaching a deal.

The source said Iran’s extension of its deal with the IAEA shows the country’s good faith.

Two other sources also confirmed to Etemad newspaper that the previous deal will probably be extended today.

Iran-US Cooperation Possible if Washington Makes Right Choice

Leader Appoints Ali Larijani as His Advisor, Expediency Council Member

Larijani made the comment in an interview with Al-Mayadeen news channel, when asked about the possibility of direct negotiation between Iran and the US.

“This depends on the choice the US makes in the dilemma it faces. If, in the nuclear talks [in Vienna], it shows it has corrected its past behavior and wants to pick a new path with Iran, this can affect the relation between Iran and the US in the future,” he said.

Larijani further mentioned the Islamic revolution leader’s comments on the nuclear deal, where he said the nuclear deal can affect the relations with the US and “other jobs can be defined” if they show honesty and act accordingly. The presidential hopeful said the US missed that opportunity and thought putting economic pressure on Iran will get them somewhere, but they failed. He said the US now faces another choice. He noted that there will be no hope if they make another mistake, adding that there will be space for cooperation, if they make the right decision.

The presidential hopeful also said there is no simple answer to whether the US can be trusted and whether the Biden administration will remove all restriction on Iran at once and not gradually.

“I think currently there is no single-line answer to this question. How it [the US] acts should be tested. What the [Islamic Revolution] leader said is right. Americans have shown that they easily destroy an agreement after signing up to it.

Just like the nuclear deal. The US was the country that effectively left the table and this marred their own image. Now Mr. Biden has said he wants to make up for all those mistakes.

So there should be a logic and basics should be worked out to ensure such mistakes are not repeated,” he said.

Larijani was also asked how his stance on the 2015 nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) will affect his election prospects. He said candidates’ position on the issue has been clear all along, so this will not significantly affect their election prospects.

Larijani said he has supported the nuclear deal and continues to do so. But he warned against making haste on the issue.

“We should not be in a hurry [to get the deal back on track] for the election, so that the other party does not exploit this. I have supported the nuclear deal and I support getting it done now and it should not be put off.

But I do not agree with doing it hastily, lest it hurts national interests. I hope the foreign ministry does the job carefully and all sections of the government help the process.

As the leader said, hastening the agreement even by an hour would be in the interest of the people,” he said.

Camera Footage Must Be Deleted as IAEA’s Deadline Over: Iran

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said lawmakers do insist that the Strategic Action Plan for the Lifting of Sanctions and Safeguarding Iranians’ rights be implemented at the specified times and based on the regulations.

He said Iran’s Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has also emphasized this issue.

“The three-month deadline set for the IAEA expired on May 22. Accordingly, the agency has no right to access the AEOI’s images and information,” the top parliamentarian said.

Qalibaf’s comments were a confirmation of remarks by lawmaker Alireza Salimi, who had reminded parliament deputies that the IAEA’s legal deadline was over.

“The IAEA had three months to live up to its commitments, but it failed to, and their legal deadline expired yesterday,” Salim had said in an open session of parliament on May 23.

“Under the law, all the images and footage recorded by the IAEA’s cameras should be erased, and we expect the IAEA chief to inform us, as soon as possible, that the deadline set for the agency has expired and that the images and footage have been deleted,” Salimi had further added.

Salimi urged the speaker to order the AEOI not to make any delays in that regard and erase all films and images recorded by cameras.

Official Warns of Possible 5th Wave of Coronavirus in Iran

The warning comes despite a relative drop in the number of infections and deaths.

“All provinces across the country, especially 28 ones, are seeing a downward trend in terms of the spread of the coronavirus,” said Alireza Raisi, the spokesman for the headquarters.

“We have passed the fourth peak of the coronavirus outbreak,” he added.

“In two weeks’ time, the number of [daily] deaths [from coronavirus] will drop below 200 people, but there is a possibility of a fifth surge in the disease,” he said.

The spokesman underlined that a travel ban may be imposed for the holiday period in early June in order to create a safer atmosphere for the upcoming presidential election in terms of coronavirus infection.

“If there are covid patients among voters, mobile ballots boxes should be used for them, so that they will not be deprived of the right to vote,” he noted.

He said voting should take place in open spaces as much as possible to contain a possible rise in the disease as a result of being in closed spaces.

“There is no need for using stamps and fingerprinting on the election day,” he said.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad Says IRGC Has Share in Victories against Israel

Al-Nakhalah said the recent war on Gaza was a key conflict in the history of the fight against Israel and was characterised with unprecedented solidarity among Palestinians.

He hailed the efforts of late commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, saying he worked hard to help this victory materialize.

“You stood with us in all fields and you have a share in the realisation of our victories and will also be next to us in liberation of al-Quds,” Al-Nakhalah told Salami.

Salami, in turn, vowed that the IRGC will never leave the Palestinian nation alone.

Several Iranian Funds Attend Austria Connect Day 2021 Event

The event was held from May 3-12, 2021, trying to match start-ups with investors and major industrial companies in the fields of technology and innovation from across the globe.

The event was organized by the promotional bank of the Austrian federal government (AWS), the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), and Global Incubator Network Austria (GIN) as the most significant financial supporters of Technology-Based Firms (TBFs), start-ups and those who work in Austria’s innovation and technology ecosystem.

Austria Connect Day 2021 brought financial supporters of innovation as well as innovative and creative firms from around the world together in order to establish a platform to build networks and match investors and start-ups, owners of innovative and technological ideas in order to develop novel, effective, innovative and sustainable businesses in the world.

Iran National Innovation Fund (INIF) made some arrangements with the secretariat of the event and, in coordination with the Iranian representation in Vienna, arranged bilateral meetings between Iranian TBFs, Start-ups and Private Research and Technology Funds and their foreign counterparts including investors, traders, innovative and technological companies and Venture Capital Funds (VCs). INIF also made arrangements to facilitate the participation of Iranian companies and start-ups in workshops and investment pitch sessions.

According to Sohrab Assa, the INIF’s International Affairs manager, “despite the barriers to international cooperation, Iran’s innovation ecosystem and its various actors such as TBFs and start-ups, enjoy a good technological appeal that can cover the shortcomings and obstacles in this way.”

“Taking this issue into account, and considering the good relationship between Iran and Austria, the INIF tried to make the most of this opportunity to pave the way for the Iranian teams to participate in this event and show their capabilities,” Assa said.

He said, “One of the most important purposes of the INIF is to support and encourage the other actors of the country’s innovation ecosystem to attend such events, so that they would get familiar with global actors in the field of financing and learn their operational mechanisms.”

Sohrab Assa explained, “The establishment of joint innovation Funds to develop cooperation in the fields of empowerment and export development and support the commercialization of joint high-priority projects between Iranian and foreign parties have been the other important goals behind the participation of the Iranian delegation in this event.”

During this event, 54 meetings were held between the Iranian participants and their foreign counterparts.

Iranian Scientist Working for NASA Returns to Iran Due to Unfair Treatment

Rahmatollah Qadimi Chermihani continued his education in the United States and finally was employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

He managed to solve the problem of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986 after its explosion.

The then US president offered $200,000 in reward to American scientists, but gave Chermihani only a jumper!

Because of this behaviour, he went to the space agency in Sweden before returning to Iran at his mother’s request.
