Iran Foils Sabotage Attempt against Nuclear Facility

The unspecified threat was “neutralized before it damaged the building, and the saboteurs failed to carry out their plan,” according to ISNA.

The attack was foiled thanks to the “vigilance” of Iran’s security apparatuses, the report said.

According to Fars news agency, the incident is being investigated.

Earlier in the day, Iranian media reported a “drone attack” against the Barekat Pharmaceutical Company in Karaj, but said the attack missed its target and hit an adjacent building. However, it seems the adjacent building has been the AEOI site, which was apparently the original target of the attack.

Barekat, which is an affiliate of the Headquarters of Imam Khomeini Executive Order (aka Setad), has developed the CovIran Barekat vaccine.

After passing its clinical trials, the vaccine recently received the Health Ministry’s permission for emergency use in Iran.

Numerous explosions have been reported over the past few years in complexes vital to Iran’s nuclear program and its energy and military sectors. Some of the incidents have been said to stem from technical malfunctions, while others have been blamed by Iran on its enemies, including the US and Israel.

On April 11, Iran’s Natanz nuclear plant suffered a blast that blew up the main and backup power supply to the underground enrichment facility — an attack that Tehran pinned on Tel Aviv.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement but media reports have since said it was a sabotage operation by the Mossad spy agency.

In response, Iran boosted its uranium enrichment to 60 percent.

Earlier this week Iran’s southern Bushehr nuclear power plant was temporarily shut down over a “technical fault,” the country’s atomic energy body said. The statement said the plant will be reconnected to the grid and the issue will be resolved “in a few days,” but did not elaborate further.

According to media reports, the unsuccessful attack has left no casualties or damages, as it has targeted an area near the Barekat Company.

Barekat, which is an affiliate of the Headquarters of Imam Khomeini Executive Order (aka Setad), has developed the CovIran Barekat vaccine.

After passing its clinical trials, the vaccine recently received the Health Ministry’s permission for emergency use in Iran.

Iran Closely Following ‘Alarming’ Developments in Afghanistan

“Iran calls for immediate deescalation, respect for rule of law, and inclusive dialogue,” Khatibzadeh tweeted on Tuesday night.

The spokesman said the “estructive policies of the US” have had lingering consequences in the region and now “its utterly irresponsible conduct is taking a toll.”

The Taliban in Afghanistan on Sunday claimed overrunning five more districts as the estimated number of localities under their control surpassed those under the government authority.

The advancing militants said in a series of statements that Yangi Qala, Chaal, and Hazar Samooch districts in the northern Takhar province, Chahar Bolak in Balkh, and the Kharwar district in Logar came under their control Saturday night.

Local authorities in these provinces confirmed the fall to the Taliban. But the Interior Ministry has been labeling these developments as “strategic retreat” by the security forces in a bid to save civilian casualties.

US in No Position to Comment about Iran Election Process: Spokesman

Ali Rabiei

“These remarks are nothing new or surprising. We have been hearing them for years. From a political point of view, we consider these remarks an instance of interference in our internal affairs and a violation of international rules,” Rabiei told reporters on Tuesday.

“We condemn these remarks. The US government is in no position and is not eligible to comment about the election process in Iran or any other country,” he added.

“Unlike the shiny shows of democracy in the US, there is no nation today who does not know how deficient democratic processes are in the US,” Rabiei noted.

He also called on the US government to stop making arrogant interferences in the internal affairs of other countries and judging the others’ democratic mechanisms, and stick to correcting their own internal affairs.

A World First: Charitable Online Taxi for Disabled in Iran

“The main duty of Behesht-e Imam Reza charity organization is 24-hour care for children who have lost one or both parents and disabled children as well as the sick and disabled elderly, who don’t have a sponsor. Alongside disabled abandoned children, we also have a special department for the elderly, where 100 older people live. All of them are abandoned and suffer some sort of disability. Therefore, one of the main characteristic of care receivers at Behesht-e-Imam Reza is their disability and one of the main problems, they jointly face, is the issue of transportation,” says Yousef Aslani, who is the director and founder of Behesht-e-Imam Reza charity.

Aslani says, for the families caring for disabled people, transportation is a major problem and causes other difficulties, too. He says people with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, advanced multiple sclerosis and others who are disabled need regular rehabilitation. He, however, says transportation is a key problem here and can bar these patients from getting the therapy they need. Aslani says this is especially the case when the patients are cared for by their elderly parents, who don’t have a car, in the absence of adequate public transportation adjusted to the needs of the disabled.

“Many disabled people face the same unpleasant condition. There are many disabled children, who should regularly visit physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy centers, but their parents cannot provide them with these services, because they do not have a private car. What’s the result? The disabled child has to stay at home and his condition gets worse every day…. The issue of transportation for these people has turned into a major concern for them and their families,” Aslani says.

Against this backdrop, and reports of people with motor disability getting depressed simply because they cannot go out, Aslani says he and his colleagues came up with the idea of creating an online system, similar to online taxi services, to transport the disabled free of charge. He says they, then, set up a professional team, had an application designed for the purpose and established support call centers for the service.

“The mechanism of the online taxi service, dubbed Eight to be blessed by Imam Reza [the eight Imam of the Shia Muslims and a member of the Prophet Mohammad’s household], is completely similar to existing transportation apps. Both disabled individuals and volunteer drivers install the app on their smart phones and both the process of requesting a vehicle and provision of service is completed through the app,” Aslani says.

“But there are two points of difference. Firstly, all people can register in the system and announce their readiness to provide transportation services with any kind of vehicle all the way through a pickup and a Pride to a Toyota, Mercedes or a Porsche, as over the [weeks’ long] period [registration in the app has began], we have had volunteers with vehicles from all these models [who have registered to provide transportation service]. Secondly, the target community for this application, i.e. its passengers, is only the disabled people.”

Iran Congratulates Armenia on Successful Parliamentary Elections

In a statement on Tuesday, Saeed Khatibzadeh wished success for those elected in the vote in helping Armenia on its path of development and progress while ensuring internal stability there and strengthening peace in the region.

Khatibzadeh also underlined the significance of neighbouring countries in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said Tehran regards expansion of ties with Armenia as important.

The spokesman expressed confidence that friendly ties between the two countries will further develop and deepen after the establishment of the new parliament and government in Armenia.

Iran’s Ballistic Missile Program, Regional Issues Not Negotiable: Raisi

Raisi told reporters in his first press conference since his presidential victory that the country’s regional influence or missile program are not negotiable.

He addressed US President Joe Biden and asked, “Why is Biden not compliant to the commitments of the previous administrations?”

Raisi advised the US administration to immediately implement its commitments and lift all anti-Iran sanctions in order to show its honesty.

“The Iranian nation does not have a good memory of the JCPOA because of the US breach of its commitments and Europe’s failure to fulfil its obligations,” he added.

He also responded negatively to Ruptly’s question about the possibility of a meeting between Iranian and American presidents over the removal of sanctions.

Raisi Says Ready to Reopen Iran’s Embassy in Riyadh

In his first press conference after winning the country’s presidential elections, Ebrahim Raisi said he sees no obstacle to the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Riyadh, more than five years after its closure amid the severance of ties between the two countries.

He said his foreign policy is based on establishing relations with all countries in the world, especially Iran’s neighbours, which will be his administration’s priority.

Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran on January 3, 2016, following demonstrations held in front of its embassy in Tehran as well as its consulate in the northeastern city of Mashhad by angry protesters who were censuring the Al Saud house for executing top Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr a day earlier. The cleric was an outspoken critic of Riyadh’s policies.

Iran, P4+1 Conclude Sixth Round of Vienna Talks to Save JCPOA

In the meeting, the heads of the delegations expressed content with ongoing and relentless efforts by the expert teams and jointly evaluated the outcome of the current round of negotiations.

Also present at the meeting was Iran’s chief negotiator Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, who touched upon the headway made during the current round of talks, especially with regards to the draft texts of the talks.

He said serious decisions need to be made in the capitals of the countries which are parties to the talks in order to resolve key outstanding issues.

He called on parties to the negotiations to adopt the necessary measures seriously, realistically and resolutely in order to protect and revive the JCPOA.

Araqchi also said the negotiating teams are closer to reaching an agreement than ever.

He expressed hope a deal can be clinched in the upcoming round of negotiations, but noted that it cannot be guaranteed.

The heads of other negotiating teams also confirmed the progress made in the talks, and highlighted the need for all sides to work, with a constructive approach, towards paving the way for reaching an agreement.
