Oil minister: Iran earned $43 billion in oil revenues last year

Iran oil industry

Oji noted that if Iran manages to cut fuel consumption by half in different sectors, it will be able to earn $150 billion annually.

He noted that the Iranian government pays $80 billion each year in fuel subsidies.

Oji underlined that last year, Tehran’s industries and power plants did not consume a single liter of fuel oil (mazut).

He was speaking on Tuesday and at a ceremony in which the Oil Ministry and Tehran’s Municipality signed a memorandum of understanding.

The oil minister voiced hope that following the signing of the MoU and the use of the capabilities of knowledge-based companies, energy consumption will be reduced and the saved energy will generate more revenues for Iran through exports and injection of the revenues into the country’s value chain.

Iran has made long strides in pressing ahead with its crude sales despite the US sanctions that have targeted its oil industry.

The administration of President Ebrahim Raisi says the Iranian oil sales are steadily increasing despite those bans and the revenues are returning to the country.

Official: About 40,000 Iranians can perform Hajj this year

Hajj

The government spokesman said one million Muslims will head to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage this year, adding that Iran’s share accounts for over 5% of that figure.

Bahadori Jahromi added that Iranian authorities are trying to bring down the costs for the pilgrims as much as they can.

Saudi Arabia allowed only a few thousand local pilgrims to perform the Hajj over the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, it has said that it will allow one million people – from inside and outside the kingdom take part providing they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

This year’s Hajj will commence from the evening of Thursday, 7th of July and will continue till the evening of 12th of July.

Iran’s Embassy in Kiev reopens

Russia Ukraine War

Moradi added that the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran did not ceased working even during the Ukraine war or after relocation to Moldova.

He said now the Iranian Embassy’s staffers are ready to offer services to “dear Iranian nationals”.

Meanwhile, France declared that it has reopened its embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kiev with Spain and Italy following suit. All these countries closed their embassies in Kiev after the security situation deteriorated in Ukraine following the Russian attack on the country. Kiev is not threatened by the Russian attack.

Russia withdrew its troops from the areas close to the Ukrainian capital and the Russian Army is now focused on the eastern parts of Ukraine.

Russia said its military operation is aimed at demilitarizing Ukraine, which it sees as a threat due to Kiev’s close ties to NATO and the West.

Taliban spokesman: Foreign Ministry delegation to visit Tehran soon

Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi

The group’s deputy Spokesman Anamollah Samangani, in a tweet, said Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and his accompanying delegation will discuss the situation of Afghan migrants and prisoners in Iran.

Samangani added that Muttaqi held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Monday, during which both sides agreed that Iran and Afghanistan will not allow biased groups to drive a wedge between the people of the two countries through propaganda, preaching hate and pessimism.

It follows the recent attacks on the venues of Iran’s embassy and consulate general in Kabul and Herat by mobs.

During the phone call, Muttaqi told Amir Abdollahian that the Taliban will ensure security of Iranian diplomats and diplomatic missions and will spare no effort to alleviate Tehran’s concerns about the security of its missions.

The Taliban official also thanked Iran for hosting Afghan refugees under difficult conditions and reiterated Afghanistan’s will to expand relations and cooperation with Iran.

At least 6 killed in Kabul school blasts, casualties on the rise

Afghanistan Blast

Many residents in the neighbourhood belong to the Shia Hazara community, an ethnic and religious minority frequently targeted by Sunni militant groups, including Islamic State.

“Three blasts have taken place … in a high school, there are some casualties to our Shia people,” said Khalid Zadran, the spokesman for Kabul’s commander.

He later added that six had been killed and 11 injured in the explosions.

The head of a hospital nursing department, who declined to be named, stated at least four people had been killed and 14 wounded in the blasts.

Another medical centre, Emergency Hospital, said in a Tweet they had received seven children injured in the explosions.

Local media outlet Etilaatroz reported that 25 people were killed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which followed a lull in violence over the cold winter months and after foreign forces withdrew last year.

The Taliban say they have secured the country since taking power in August, but international officials and analysts say that the risk of a resurgence in militancy remains and the Islamic State militant group has claimed several major attacks.

Israel warplanes strike Gaza Strip

Israeli Fighter Jet

No casualties or injuries have been reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades – Hamas armed branch – said they retaliated with surface-to-air missiles.

“Our air defence responded to Zionist warplanes in the skies of the Gaza Strip with surface-to-air missiles at exactly 01.35 local time (1035GMT) Tuesday morning,” it added in a statement.

The attack comes after a rocket fired from the besieged Gaza Strip into southern Israel was intercepted on Monday, in the first such attack in months amid soaring tensions over a flashpoint holy site in occupied East Jerusalem.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage and no Palestinian group claimed responsibility for the rocket, which Israel claimed was shot down by its Iron Dome interceptor.

Hamas, the Palestinian group that administers the coastal enclave, had warned that any incidents at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound would be a “red line” after Israeli forces raided the site in East Jerusalem several times in recent days, arresting hundreds of Palestinians and leaving dozens injured.

Palestinians accuse Israel of encroaching at Al-Aqsa during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Israel claims Palestinian protesters seek to disrupt Muslim prayer for political ends and to prevent visits by Jews, who are celebrating Passover.

Prior to the rocket attack, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett accused Hamas of waging a “wild harassment campaign” against Israel. Egypt and Jordan, which inked peace agreements with Israel decades ago and coordinate with it on security matters, have condemned the actions of Israeli forces at the site.

On Friday, at least 152 Palestinians were wounded by Israeli police inside the mosque compound, the latest outbreak in an upsurge of violence that has raised fears of a slide back to wider conflict.

Crackdowns by Israeli forces on protesters who were demonstrating against attempts to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah last year were a trigger for an escalation in violence between Israel and Hamas fighters in Gaza.
