Iranian president: We expect UN to be voice of nations

Ebrahim Raisi

President Raisi is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly summit and make an address at the meeting.

He said the UN is a place which can be used to make the voice of the Iranian people heard and Iran’s foreign policy can be outlined.

The Iranian president noted that his administration uses this opportunity to make the voice of the Iranian nation heard.

He said this voice is louder than ever before, especially after last year’s great victory in the face of the “hybrid warfare of Iran’s enemies.”

He was referring to the widespread unrest and deadly riots in Iran that happened after the death of Iranian girl, Mahsa Amini in police custody. Iran says foreign ciuntries including the US were behind fanning the flames of the violent events.

Raisi added that the enemies thought that such shocks would undermine the Islamic Revolution but this was a miscalculation on part of the adversaries.

Iran announces commitment to JCPOA revival talks

Nasser Kanaani

Kanaani stated that if there is even a minimal chance in the diplomatic path for all parties to return to the JCPOA, Iran will seize it.

In addition, he affirmed that Iran will continue its efforts to neutralize sanctions seriously.

He noted Iran does not have any restrictions for the development of relations with different countries, except for one particular case.

“We have never had an exclusionary view toward Europe, and we are ready to talk and cooperate with any country that wants to cooperate with Iran with mutual respect,” the spokesperson told reporters.

According to the foreign ministry spokesman, Tehran welcomes any initiative and effort for a responsible return of all parties to the JCPOA, including the initiative put forward by Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

“Yet this does not mean adding a new party to the JCPOA,” he hastened to add.

“We support the good-faith initiatives of various countries to bring the views of the remaining JCPOA parties closer.”

Five Iranians in US custody to be released Monday: Official

Kazem Gharibabadi

“After a successful team effort, five innocent Iranian compatriots in American prisons will be free today and two of them will enter Tehran via Doha,” secretary general of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi wrote on his X account on Monday.

“The High Council for Human Rights, alongside the government and the judiciary, will remain determined to uphold the rights of Iranians abroad,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that two of the detainees will return to Iran while one of them will join his family in a third country and two others will stay in the US.

The five Iranian prisoners were identified as Mehrdad Moein Ansari, Kambiz Attar Kashani, Reza Sarhangpour Kofrani, Amin Hassanzadeh, and Kaveh Lotfollah Afrasiabi.

They had been held in American jails illegally and under the pretext of violating US sanctions. Their release came under a prisoner exchange agreement with the US.

Officially announced on August 10, the deal will also see the release of five Americans from Iran’s prisons.

The prisoner swap followed two years of indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The Islamic Republic has emphasized that the exchange of prisoners is a completely humanitarian issue.

Visiting the 17th International Exhibition of Plastics, Rubber, Machinery & Equipment, known as IranPlast, in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday, Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi said Iran has made considerable progress in the field of knowledge and new technologies in the petrochemical industry.

The Saudi envoy also met with the directors of National Petrochemical Company of Iran in the event and said there are ample grounds for cooperation between Saudi chemical manufacturing company, SABIC, and Iranian petrochemical companies.

The expression of willingness by al-Anzi comes as Iran and Saudi Arabia have recently resumed diplomatic ties after seven years of break-up for differences on several issues, including the war on Yemen.

Officials from both sides say they are ready to reinforce bilateral ties in various fields.

Netanyahu says will discuss Iran with Biden during US trip

Benjamin Netanyahu

“I am now leaving for the UN General Assembly where I will represent Israel before the nations of the world,” the prime minister said as he boarded the plane.

“I will also meet with many world leaders, especially President Biden, with whom I will discuss – first and foremost, but among other topics – Iran and expanding the circle of peace [between Israel and Arab nations].”

According to Netanyahu, “Iran is violating all of its commitments, that it brazenly lies, and that it intends both to develop nuclear weapons and continue its aggression in the region.”

“We will confront both of these [threats] together. I heard the threats from an official of the Iranian regime today; I suggest that he not threaten us. He and this regime need to know that we will respond forcefully to any attack on our people and our citizens,” the PM added.

Tehran has repeatedly declared that its nuclear program remains purely peaceful as always and that the Islamic Republic had no intention of developing nuclear weapons as a matter of an Islamic and state principal.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued an official fatwa (religious decree) clearly establishing that any form of acquisition, development, and use of nuclear weapons violate Islamic principles and are therefore forbidden.

Recently, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami said Iran has defeated all destructive and hostile strategies and policies of the enemies since the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution, ridiculing Israel’s threats to assassinate Iranian figures.

Major General Salami made the remarks in a gathering of the country’s cyberspace activists on Wednesday, in reaction to the head of the Israeli regime’s Mossad spy agency David Barnea who threatened to target top Iranian figures.

The top Iranian commander added, “The Zionists are dealing with many problems and signs of their decline can be observed. So, they started talking nonsense and threaten to assassinate our commanders.”

“If the previous assassinations have boosted your security, you can continue. But you need to know, if the space between us and you becomes militarized, we can act more freely and your life will become shorter,” he continued.

Drone crashes in Iran’s Gorgan, two inured, damage inflicted

Seyyed Ali Mohajer, in an interview with IRNA news agency, dismissed initial reports that eight drones had crashed in the city, clarifying that different parts of one drone fell in eight spots in the city.

The Iranian Defense Ministry Spokesperson General Reza Talayi Nik told Iran’s Mehr News Agency that technical failure and deviation of one of the offensive systems caused the crash.

He added the incident happened during the testing of a military system in a desert area and rescue teams have been dispatched to collect the pieces.

Video footage from the scenes showed Iranian police, security forces, and the police chief of Golestan Province were on site of the crash that left two people injured, shattered windows, and caused minor damage in the area.

Israeli soldiers attack Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli forces imposed tight security measures on Sunday, ejecting worshippers from Al-Aqsa Mosque and intensifying their presence around it, denying access to any Palestinian below the age of 50 to clear the way for Israeli settlers on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

In celebration of Rosh Hashanah, hundreds of ultranationalist Israelis made an incursion into the Al-Aqsa courtyard through the Morocco Gate under the protection of Israeli troops, according to news outlet Al-Mayadeen.

The Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Department confirmed that the army was working to clear the compound prior to the settler incursion.

Israeli settler groups had been calling for unfettered access to the compound to celebrate Rosh Hashanah on what is known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

A number of Muslim worshippers had gathered at the holy site following dawn prayers to object to the harassment and intrusions by Israeli settlers.

Israeli soldiers “physically assaulted and beat up three worshippers”, including an elderly man and elderly woman, near Bab as-Silsila, Palestinian news agency WAFA said, adding that the three had objected to an Israeli settler blowing a horn at the entrance to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Two men were arrested inside the compound and transferred to “an unknown destination”, Al-Maydeen reported.

Video footage showing settlers touring the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyard was circulating on social media.
