Normalization talks with Israel ‘still on table’: Saudi Arabia

Israel Saudi Arabia Flags

“That was on the table – it remains on the table and obviously the setback over the last month has clarified why Saudi Arabia was so adamant that resolution of the Palestinian conflict has to be part of a broader normalisation in the Middle East,” Al-Falih said at a Bloomberg forum in Singapore.

When asked whether Saudi Arabia would use economic tools such as the oil price to achieve a ceasefire, Al-Falih laughed and added: “That is not on the table today. Saudi Arabia is trying to find peace through peaceful discussions.”

Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman told Fox News in an interview aired late September that they “get closer” every day to normalization with Tel Aviv. Israeli Premiere Benjamin Netanyahu said during his UN speech last month that the regime was at the cusp of a historic normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.

However, the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has reportedly blocked further talks.

Washington’s efforts for adding Saudi Arabia to the list of Arab countries that have signed the Abraham Accords come at a critical time when US President Joe Biden is seeking re-election and the US government has been left embarrassed by the kingdom’s bolstering of ties with Iran and Syria, and its further gravitation toward China.

The UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco signed US-brokered normalization agreements with Israel in 2020, drawing condemnations from Palestinians who slammed the deals as “a stab in the back of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people”.

Iranian president says world disillusioned with intl. bodies, citing Gaza carnage

Ebrahim Raisi made the remarks on Wednesday, before departing for an official visit to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in a reference to an incessant Israeli bombing campaign of the Gaza Strip that has so far left over 10,000 people killed since October 7.

“Global consultations for the oppressed should lead to the creation of a just world order in which the oppressor will be punished and the voice of the oppressed will be heard,” Raisi said.

He said Iran is conducting diplomatic talks to stop the Israeli massacre. More than 4,000 kids and at least 2,500 women are among those killed during Israeli raids on Gaza over the last month.

On his trip to the two Central Asia countries, President Raisi said, boosting relations with the region are among the top priorities for his administration.

The trip will take him to Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, for a visit with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, and then to Uzbekistan where he will take part in a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), a regional economic bloc.

Gaza suffers most air raids in a month in Middle East since 2020

Gaza War

“The scale of Israel’s air campaign in Gaza is unprecedented,” the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (Acled) said in a post on the social media platform X.

Acled recorded more than 600 air strike events across more than 50 locations in Gaza in October alone.

“Despite Gaza’s small size of just 360 square kilometers, this represents the highest number of air strike events recorded within a single month for any country or territory in the Middle East since 2020,” the group added.

Israel began its latest air campaign on the besieged enclave after the Hamas-led 7 October attacks killed about 1,400 Israelis, with around 240 hostages being seized.

More than 10,300 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombardment over the past month, including over 4,000 children.

The relentless Israeli bombing campaign has flattened entire neighbourhoods and targeted civilian infrastructure, hospitals, mosques, churches and schools sheltering thousands of displaced people.

The update from Acled is just the latest statistic to capture the unprecedented bloodshed being experienced by Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, on average, a Palestinian child was killed every 10 minutes over the past month.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, and on Monday warned that the Gaza Strip was becoming a “graveyard for children”.

Iran UN envoy: Tehran has no links to reprisal attacks on US bases

US Troops

Amir Saeed Iravani, in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday, rejected Washington’s claims that Iran facilitates the operations against the US in retaliation for its role in the month-long massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Iranian envoy said the US is seeking to justify its illegal military presence in Syria which is in violation of international laws and the United Nations charters.

Iravani also said the US should put an end to its military presence in Syria, a demand raised many times by the Syrian envoy to the UN.

Dozens of American troops are reporting injuries or traumatic brain injuries ever since popular resistance movements in Iraq and Syria started their attacks to show their indignation at Washington’s unconditional support for the Israeli regime’s onslaught on the Gaza Strip.

Middle East confrontation could expand: Hezbollah’s second in command

Hezbollah

“Hezbollah participates [in the conflict] for the sake of lowering the pressure on Gaza,” he said.

He added the increasingly frequent bombardments of Israel by the group aim to send a clear signal to Israel that an expansion of the ground operation in Gaza will have serious consequences.

“If [Israel and the US] continue in their aggression in this way and escalate this aggression and leave a negative impact that is larger than what is currently happening now, it will increase the situation and will lead to a complete confrontation,” Qassem warned.

Hezbollah released three separate statements on Tuesday announcing the death of members killed in clashes with Israel, bringing the total killed since the outbreak of war to 63.

Amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israeli troops and Hamas, tension has flared along the border between the Israeli-occupied territories and Lebanon, with exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah and the Israeli regime have been exchanging sporadic fire since October 8, a day after the Zionist regime started bringing the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip under a relentless and indiscriminate war.

The Lebanese resistance movement has announced the group’s “guns and rockets” were with Palestinian fighters, and stressed that it will intensify its attacks against Israel if necessary.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has recently told senior Israeli officials that Hezbollah is “ten times stronger than Hamas”, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster has reported.

President Joe Biden and his aides have advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch pre-emptive strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, The New York Times daily newspaper has reported.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the Tel Aviv regime’s military in both cases.

The resistance movement has vowed to resolutely defend Lebanon in case of any Israeli-imposed war.

Pentagon reports ‘uptick’ in attacks on US bases in Middle East

Us Troops

“We’re seeing an uptick in attacks but so far, we have not seen any significant casualties, we’ve not seen significant damage to our infrastructure,” Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters during a press briefing at the Defense Department on Tuesday.

When asked if the US deterrence works against Iran-backed militias that are accused of attacking the US bases in Syria and Iraq since mid-October, Singh said: “Deterrence right now is incredibly strong on our side.

“We are sending an incredible message to any state or non-state actor that would want to seek to get involved in the conflict … And so again, while we see these attacks increase, we’re not seeing significant casualties or significant harm to our service members,” she added.

Singh said between Oct. 17 and Nov. 7, US forces have been attacked at least 40 times, with 22 times in Iraq and 18 times in Syria.

“That’s a mix of one-way attack drones and rockets,” she added.

The total number of injured service members stands at 46.

Washington has accused Iran-backed militias, but admitted there is no evidence to pin blame on Tehran’s leadership for ordering the strikes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has denied that Iran had instructed groups in Syria and Iraq to target US troops in recent days.

He stated it was Washington — not Tehran — that was fanning the violence in the region.

“The US could face dire consequences in the Middle East if it continues to support Israel,” Amiradbollahian stressed, adding that Washington “is advising others to show self-restraint, but it has sided with Israel totally”.

“If the United States continues what it has been doing so far, then new fronts will be opened up against the United States.”

He also cautioned that the continued bloodshed in Gaza “will make the situation get out of control in the region.”

“The American side should decide – does it really want to escalate, intensify the war?” he asked.

The foreign minister went on to deny that Iran had instructed militant groups in Iraq and Syria to attack the US, insisting that they were acting on their own.

“They’re not receiving any orders from us, any instructions,” he noted.

Iran has repeatedly warned the United States against any act of mischief in the region.

Democrats in US Senate block Republican bid to aid Israel, Ukraine excluded

Russia Ukraine War

Republican Senator Roger Marshall said: “Time is of the essence and it’s imperative that the Senate not delay delivering this crucial aid to Israel another day.”

Democrats objected, stressing the importance of providing aid to Ukraine as well as Israel, in addition to humanitarian aid, border security funding and money to push back against China in the Indo-Pacific that was in a $106 billion funding request President Joe Biden sent to Congress last month.

They also accused House Republicans of playing politics with the crisis in Israel, delaying aid for the Jewish State by tying support to cutting funding for the Internal Revenue Service, a favorite target for Republicans, rather than writing a bipartisan bill.

The House bill would provide $14.3 billion for Israel as it responds to a deadly Oct. 7 attack by Hamas fighters, but also cut the same amount of money from the IRS. The funds would include $4 billion for procurement of Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling defense systems to counter short-range rocket threats as well as some transfers of equipment from US stocks.

“Our allies in Ukraine can no more afford a delay than our allies in Israel,” stated Senator Patty Murray, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The House vote was largely along party lines. Democrats called the proposed IRS cuts a politically motivated “poison pill” that would increase the US budget deficit by cutting back on tax collection. They also said it was essential to continue to support Ukraine.

To become law, legislation must pass the Democratic-controlled Senate as well as the Republican-majority House, and be signed into law by Biden, a Democrat. The White House had said Biden would veto the House bill.

Senate leaders are writing their own supplemental funding bill and hope to introduce it as soon as this week.

Hamas: US dreaming if it wants to force Palestinian group out of Gaza governance

Hamas

“I think the Americans are dreaming a lot,” said Ghazi Hamad, in an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic.

“The Americans who failed in Iraq, who failed in Afghanistan, who failed in Somalia … now they want to restructure Gaza?” he asked.

Hamad stated that any change in the governance of Gaza was an internal Palestinian matter, adding that Hamas would be involved in any decision.

He also warned the Palestinian Authority in the occupied West Bank not to make a deal with the US and Israel at the expense of Hamas, as the question of what happens in Gaza if Hamas is defeated grows.

“You must not cooperate with the Americans,” Hamad said, addressing the PA.

“And don’t [go into Gaza] on the back of the American tank.”

He added that PA President Mahmoud Abbas should refuse any US attempts for it to takeover Gaza, but added that a lack of public comments on the matter from the PA “raises a question mark”.

In response to Israeli military claims that its forces were in the heart of Gaza City, Hamad asked for the Israelis to show evidence of their advances.

He also added that the Israelis did not want to rescue the captives being held in the Gaza Strip. Israel has publicly stated that the rescue of the captives is a priority of their military operation.

Israel soldiers deployed ‘in heart of Gaza City’: Minister

Israeli Army

“IDF forces are in the heart of Gaza City. They came from the north and the south. They stormed it in full coordination between land, air and sea forces,” Gallant said in a televised news conference on Tuesday.

“They are manoeuvring on foot, armoured vehicles and tanks, along with military engineers from all directions and they have one target — Hamas terrorists in Gaza, their infrastructure, their commanders, bunkers, communication rooms. They are tightening the noose around Gaza City,” he stated.

Gallant described Gaza City as “the biggest terrorism base built by man”. He added that below the city there were kilometres (miles) of tunnels that ran under schools and hospitals and that housed weapon depots, communication rooms and hideouts for fighters.

Asked about plans for who would rule Gaza once the war was over, Gallant said: “I can tell you who will not govern (Gaza). It will not be Hamas, and it will not be Israel. Everything else is a possibility.”

He stated there would not be a humanitarian pause without bringing back captives held by Hamas.

“We will continue until victory and until the hostages are returned home,” the defense minister added.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said during an evening press conference on Tuesday in just one month of its military operation against Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces delivered strikes on more than 14,000 targets in the Gaza Strip.

In his words, the IDF demolished over 100 tunnel entrances and destroyed more than 4,000 weapons of various types.

The spokesman claimed that the IDF also killed many Hamas fighters, including in the rank of commanders.

Israel has launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7.

At least 10,000 Palestinians, including more than 4,000 children and over 2,700 women, have been killed since then. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,500, according to official figures.

Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.

Netanyah says no ceasefire until captives released, Hamas blames Israel

Israel Hostages

The Israeli military is operating deep inside the encircled Gaza and is increasing pressure on Hamas hour after hour, Netanyahu said in a televised address to the nation on Tuesday.

“The fighting in the Gaza Strip continues with a force that Hamas has never known before. Gaza City is surrounded, we are operating inside it, we are increasing the pressure on Hamas day by day, hour by hour,” he stated.

The prime minister claimed the Israeli military had killed thousands of radicals on the ground and beneath the ground during the operation in the Gaza Strip.

“Among them, we have destroyed a number of vicious killers who carried out that terrible massacre on Black Saturday a month ago (October 7). We have destroyed dozens of Hamas bases, headquarters, tunnels and training camps,” he went on to say.

“Hamas is realizing that we are reaching the sites they thought we would never be able to reach,” the prime minister added.

He warned there would be “no ceasefire” without the release of hostages.

“I suppose we’ll check the circumstances in order to enable goods, humanitarian goods, to come in, or hostages, individual hostages, to leave. But I don’t think there’s going to be a general ceasefire.”

He once again demanded that the Red Cross be given access to the captives.

Hamas fighters killed an estimated 1,400 people during surprise attacks against villages in southern Israel on October 7, and the group claimed to have taken enough hostages to secure the release of all Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

Four of the hostages, including two Americans, have been released, and Israeli troops rescued a soldier who had been captured by Hamas.

The group announced in a statement on Tuesday that it was prepared to release 12 foreign nationals, but it couldn’t do so because of Israeli airstrikes and ground attacks.
