Iran Police: 813 people killed in Nowruz road accidents

Iran Road

Brigadier General Teimour Hosseini said 667 fatal road crashes happened during the Nowruz holidays that also injured 21,441 people.

Most of the accidents have reportedly happened in Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman, Fars, Esfahan, Khuzestan and Khorasan Razavi provinces.

Despite the nearly 30 percent decline in road accidents in the Persian New Year compared to previous years, the figures are still tragically high compared to other countries in the world.

Iran has one of the world’s worst records of tragic incidents on the road mainly due to poor maintenance of the road and reckless driving.

Israel deliberately targeted aid convoy in Gaza: Report

Gaza War

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that an IDF strike had killed seven humanitarian workers in the Palestinian enclave, saying its forces had “unintentionally hit innocent people” in a “tragic” incident.

Reporting by Haaretz, however, suggests the convoy was intentionally targeted. The outlet’s defense sources said the cars were “clearly marked on the roof and sides” with the WCK logo, but that an IDF unit responsible for the security of the route “identified an armed man” with the group and “suspected that he was a terrorist”.

After unloading food aid at a warehouse, the convoy was driving back along the IDF-approved route, when the unit “ordered the drone operators to attack one of the cars with a missile”.

The sources told Haaretz, however, that the man who had ostensibly been armed and on the food truck, never left the warehouse.

The convoy was hit three times in succession, they added, explaining that some passengers of the car hit first were seen exiting the vehicle and “even notified the people responsible that they were attacked”.

Seconds later, another missile hit the car, the sources stated. As the third car approached, passengers were attempting to transfer the wounded into it when a third missile hit them. All seven were killed in the strikes.

The defense sources told Haaretz the incident was “frustrating” because the IDF is “trying its hardest to accurately hit terrorists” and utilizing all intelligence available, only to have some units “decide to launch attacks without any preparation”.

Separately, an investigation by Al Jazeera’s Sanad Verification Agency found that Israel “deliberately targeted” the cars in “three consecutive attacks”. The outlet used open-source information, witness testimonies, as well as images from the site, to put together a chronological and geographical timeline of the incident.

World Central Kitchen (WCK) “immediately” paused its operations in the region following the deaths, as Israel continues to block aid into northern Gaza amid warnings from the United Nations and NGOs of imminent famine. CEO Erin Gore called the deaths “unforgivable”.

Israel declared war on Hamas after the Palestinian fighters carried out a surprise cross-border raid on October 7 last year, killing some 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. The Israeli military campaign has since left at least 32,900 people dead, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Israel frantically seeking survival: Iran president to Syria’s Assad

Raisi and Assad

In a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart on Tuesday, Raisi described Israel’s terrorist and criminal attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus as a sign of the depth of desperation and helplessness of the Zionist regime.

“Undoubtedly, this regime and its supporters will be punished for this terrorist act and brutal crimes in Gaza and the punishment of the perpetrators of this crime is definite and unchangeable,” Raisi added.

The president stated Iran and Syria have always considered Israel a cancerous tumor that disturbs security, peace and stability in the region and the world.

Stressing the need to strengthen regional and international cooperation between the two countries to deal with the criminality of the Israeli regime, Raisi said, “Unfortunately, the passivity and weak position caused by the fear of some Arab countries has prevented the Islamic world from adopting a united position against the Zionist regime and has caused this regime to become more brazen in committing crimes.”

He described the recent insane actions of the Zionist regime as the last struggles of this falling regime and stated, “Today, it has been proven to everyone that the criminal Zionist regime does not adhere to any of the humanitarian and international principles, and it is more unfortunate that America and some Western continues are providing financial, weaponry and media support to this regime.”

For his part, Bashar al-Assad expressed his condolences to the government and nation of Iran and the families of victims of the Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic building in Damascus.

“The unprecedented crime of the Zionist regime in the terrorist attack on the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not only a violation of international laws, but also shows the height of insolence and moral degeneration of this regime and the series of aggression and criminality in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria,” he stated.

The Syrian president added the Zionist regime seeks to escape from the predicament it is caught in by the Palestinian Islamic resistance in Gaza, and emphasized the need to support the axis of resistance and punish this criminal regime.

Western states assisting Ukraine attack deep inside Russia: Report

Russia Ukraine War

An unnamed Ukrainian official who spoke to CNN described how Kiev uses UAVs with longer ranges and “more advanced capabilities” to strike targets located more than 1,000km (621 miles) from the border.

“The flights are determined in advance with our allies, and the aircraft follow the flight plan to enable us to strike targets with meters of precision,” the source said.

The admission of receiving guidance from abroad follows multiple reports that Western personnel are providing Ukrainian troops with intelligence and information about specific targets.

The Washington Post cited a senior Ukrainian official last year as saying that Kiev’s soldiers “almost never” use advanced weapons, including US-made HIMARS rocket launchers, without receiving coordinates from the Pentagon.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian drones targeted Russia’s Tatarstan, a region 650km east of Moscow (400 miles), which had not previously been attacked by UAVs. One drone was aiming to hit an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, a city located roughly 1,100km (680 miles) from the border. Mayor Ramil Mullin said that the aircraft was disabled by air defenses and caused no damage.

Another drone struck a student dormitory inside the industrial zone in Elabuga, injuring 13 people. The hub hosts several companies that make high-tech equipment, including drones, according to Russian media.

Moscow has repeatedly warned that the delivery of weapons and other military aid to Kiev makes Western countries de facto direct participants in the conflict. The Russian Defense Ministry and local authorities have said that Kiev uses Western-supplied arms to indiscriminately fire at civilians.

US told Russia concert hall in Moscow could be targeted by terrorists: Report

Moscow Terror Attack

Unnamed US officials interviewed by the paper claimed that Russian authorities had been issued with a notice with a “high degree of specificity” one day before the US Embassy’s public warning on March 7.

At the time, the US mission advised Americans in the Russian capital to avoid large events in the next 48 hours, citing “reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts”.

The White House has also claimed that it shared information about a potential attack with Russian authorities. The head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has confirmed this, but noted that “the information was too general and did not allow us to fully identify those who participated in this terrible crime”.

The New York Times reported last week that while the US had shared data on a terror threat, “the adversarial relationship” between the two countries – which is largely due to the Ukraine crisis – prevented full disclosure. US officials withheld some information “out of fear Russian authorities might learn their intelligence sources or methods”, the newspaper added.

The WaPo has also claimed that the US provided Moscow with information about plans by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS or ISIL) terrorists to stage an attack on a synagogue in Moscow. On March 7, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced it had prevented an attack on a Jewish religious site, saying the terrorists had been killed in a gunfight while resisting arrest.

The attack on Crocus City Hall occurred on March 22, when a group of gunmen stormed the venue ahead of a rock concert, killing at least 144 people and injuring around 200 others. Several suspects, including four directly involved in the shooting, were detained by Russian security services within hours of the tragedy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed several terrorists were caught fleeing towards Ukraine, where “a window” to cross the border was being arranged for them.

Russian officials have argued that the Ukrainian intelligence services may have masterminded the plot, although Kiev has vehemently denied any involvement. The US and its allies have insisted that the attack was orchestrated by IS. Moscow has voiced suspicion over Western attempts to absolve Ukraine of any responsibility before the investigation is complete.

Tehran says to sue Israel for attack on Iran diplomatic mission in Damascus

Israeli strike on Iranian consulate in Syria

“The Iranian Supreme National Security Council will decide on the matter, but we will soon make an announcement as far as legal decisions in this regard are concerned,” said Mohammad Dehqan.

“We are studying the legal dimensions of the issues and will soon make it public,” he explained.

Israel’s deadly attack on the Iranian mission in Damascus has drawn worldwide condemnation. Iran says it reserves the right to reciprocate, with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei saying Tel Aviv will regret its attack.

Iran Leader advisor: Israel to rue the day it attacked Iranian embassy in Damascus

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi

“Such a punishment is definite and unavoidable,” said Major General Yahya Rahimsafavi, the senior military advisor to Ayatollah Khamenei, the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces.

The top Iranian commander also praised General Ali Zahedi, who was killed along with several other top Iranian military officers in the Israeli attack.

General Rahimsafavi made the comments after Tel Aviv targeted the Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus on Monday which killed seven top Iranian military advisors.

Ayatollah Khamenei has earlier emphasized that the Israeli regime will regret its deadly attack on Iran’s consulate.

WHO reports sharp rise in newborn deaths in Gaza amid Israel’s war

Gaza War

“From different doctors, particularly in the maternity hospitals, they’re reporting that they’re seeing a big rise in children born with low birth weight, and just not surviving the neonatal period because they’re born too small,” WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said on Tuesday.

Harris stated at Kamal Adwan, the only pediatric hospital in northern Gaza, “at least 15 malnourished children are coming in per day, and the needs are just getting ever more severe”.

She cited a stabilization center set up last week, saying the inpatients were typically children with medical illnesses as well as malnutrition.

“If you have got an underlying condition, malnutrition will kill you much more quickly, so they become the most urgent patients.”

The WHO is unable to establish precise statistics on child mortality because of the devastation in the Palestinian territory. Harris added many people do not even get to hospital.

Doctors in Gaza say a growing number of women have suffered pregnancy losses or complications. They are reporting an increase in adverse pregnancy outcomes, with staff at a Rafah hospital saying they no longer see “normal-sized babies”.

Palestinian health authorities say at least 27 people, including children, have died from severe malnutrition.

Israel faces growing pressure from the international community to expedite the delivery of aid into Gaza.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Save the Children charity organization warned that malnourished children in Gaza were not getting the food and medical care they need to survive with food being blocked at every turn and the health system obliterated.

On Monday, the Israeli military pulled out of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital after a two-week military operation that left much of the complex in ruins and bodies scattered on the dusty grounds. The hospital was the biggest in the Palestinian territory.

Only three maternity hospitals remain in the Gaza Strip, and they are overwhelmed with patients.

Fmr. Spksmn.: Israeli regime ‘the loser in action’

Israeli strike on Iranian consulate in Syria

“The Israeli regime has lost its mental-psychological balance,” said Hamidrezaa Asefi in an interview with ISNA, referring to Israel’s Monday raid on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

“The situation is tougher than ever for this regime,” he added.

He noted the Tel Aviv regime is facing a crisis both at home and abroad.

The former spokesman underlined the necessity of responding to the crimes committed by the regime while cautioning against hasty action.

“Giving a firm response does not necessarily mean giving an impulsive response and failing to give it careful consideration,” he explained.

“The response to be given should be well-thought-out,” he said.

The ex-spokesperson made the comments following an Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which killed several top Iranian military commanders.

Tehran has roundly condemned the attack, vowing a firm response.
Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khemeni has said that Iran will make the Tel Aviv regime regret its attack.

The deadly strike has drawn international condemnation, namely from the United Nations.

Protesters clash with Israeli police near Netanyahu’s residence

Israel Protest

Protesters clashed with Israeli police outside Netanyahu’s home in Jerusalem on Tuesday night as they called for him to step down, according to media reports.

Israel’s public broadcaster Kan aired a video showing dozens of protesters removing police barriers and clashing with officers near Netanyahu’s house.

The police reported in a statement that they removed protesters who attempted to approach the residence, adding that some rioters hurled flares at police officers.

Thousands also demonstrated outside the Knesset, or Israeli parliament, for a third straight day, demanding early elections and a prisoner exchange deal with the Palestinian group Hamas.

Hamas, which is believed to be holding nearly 130 Israeli hostages, demands an end to Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip in return for a hostage deal with Tel Aviv.

A previous deal in November last year saw the release of 81 Israelis and 24 foreigners in exchange for 240 Palestinians, including 71 women and 169 children.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Hamas which killed some 1,200 people.

More than 32,900 Palestinians have since been killed and 75,500 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which on Thursday asked it to do more to prevent famine in Gaza.

Israelis accused Netanyahu of trying to use the war to prolong his hold on power, claiming he was prioritizing his political survival over the broader interests of the Israeli people. They also held the prime minister responsible for his government’s failure to prevent the October 7 attack. Netanyahu has also been accused of not doing enough to bring home hostages held by Hamas in the besieged enclave.
