Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman: No need for Iranian volunteer forces to be sent to Lebanon or Gaza

Nasser Kanaani

Kanaani added that there is no need to send volunteer forces from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Gaza and Lebanon either.

He was speaking at his weekly news briefing. Kanaani said, “”I believe that regional countries and governments, including in Lebanon and Palestine, can defend themselves against any aggression by the Zionist regime, and there is no need to send Iranian volunteer forces to Gaza and Lebanon”.

He added that Lebanon and Palestine are engaged in an unequal war with the Zionists, but the usurping regime is unable to confront the resistance forces in a direct confrontation due to its heavy defeats in the past few decades.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Iran has warned the international community that the continuation of the Zionists’ war risks broadening the scope of instability and insecurity and the danger of conflict across the region.

Kanaani underlined that this does not mean that Iran is afraid of war. “We are not warmongers, but we are trying to boost stability and security in the region, and our hands have never been and will never be tied in the face of any adventurous move and violation of Iran’s national security or targeting Iran’s interests and national security.”

He went on to say that the UN, due to the US government’s role, has not been able to deter the Zionist regime’s war machine.

Kanaani also spoke about the inaction of the UN and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s presence in New York, saying it’s a disgrace that the podium of the world body is in the hands of a war criminal and he uses it to make threats against others.
“This is a dishonor for those who support the usurping regime that commits war crimes”, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

Kanaani also referred to the Israeli regime’s attacks on Lebanon, which killed hundreds of people and displaced more than a million more, adding that it’s a disgrace for the Zionist regime’s supporters that Israel heavily bombs Dahieh with 85 one-ton bombs and threatens that no one should come near the bombed areas while the US supports this.

Kanaani said the US will carry this shame forever but the US regime will not make any strategic achievements in the region by continuing its disgraceful support for all these crimes.

Putin claims Western elites colonized Ukraine

Vladimir Putin

He made the remarks on the anniversary of Russia’s reunification with four former Ukrainian regions.

Russia is marking two years since it accepted the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics as new parts of the country, along with the regions of Zaporozhye and Kherson. The treaties with the breakaway entities were signed amid hostilities with Ukraine, after people in those territories voted for the move in referendums. Kiev has rejected the votes as a “sham” and they have failed to gain widespread international recognition.

In a short statement, Putin reminded the nation that Moscow had initially intended to facilitate the return of Donetsk and Lugansk to Ukraine, after they rebelled against Kiev in the wake of the US-backed violent coup in 2014.

”You all know how those negotiations ended: with lies, fraud, deceit from the Western elites, who have since turned Ukraine into their colony, a military foothold against Russia,” the president said.

”They deliberately fostered hatred and radical nationalism, incited enmity towards anything Russian, supplied weapons, sent mercenaries and advisers, prepared the Ukrainian Army for a new war, to again, like it did in the spring and summer 2014, conduct punitive action in the southeast,” he added.

The Minsk Accords, which were struck in 2014 and 2015 in a bid to resolve tensions in Ukraine, were designed to buy time for Kiev to rearm, according to statements made later by the then-leaders of France, Germany and Ukraine.

Subsequent events have proven that Russian military action was warranted, Putin claimed. “The truth is on our side. All of our objectives will be reached,” he stated.

Western nations backing Ukraine have accused Russia of launching an unprovoked attack against it in February 2022. They claim that, by funneling hundreds of billions of dollars worth of military equipment to Kiev, they delay and potentially prevent a future Russian attack against NATO, plans that Moscow denies harboring.

Moscow has identified NATO’s expansion in Europe since the 1990s as a key cause of the conflict, with membership promised to Ukraine in 2008, as well as Kiev’s discriminatory policies against ethnic Russians following the 2014 coup. Russian officials see the hostilities as a US-led proxy war against their country, in which Ukrainians are being used as ‘cannon fodder’.

Deputy chief says Hezbollah ready for a ground confrontation with Israel

Hezbollah

He made the remarks on Monday noon as he delivered a televised speech broadcast live in Beirut in commemoration of late Hezbollah chief Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was martyred on Friday after the Israeli regime bombarded a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital using US-provided weapons and munitions.

“Despite the loss of our leaders and the great sacrifices, we will not renounce our stances and the resistance will continue to assist Palestine. We have persevered despite all the attacks.”

“We will continue Nasrallah’s path and Hezbollah will continue its goals. Hezbollah’s operations continued after its late leader’s assassination,” he emphasized.

The Hezbollah deputy chief offered his deepest condolences to Imam Mahdi, the Twelfth and last Shia Imam, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, resistance fighters across West Asia, Lebanon, and freedom-loving peoples worldwide over the loss of Nasrallah.

“With the martyrdom of Seyyed Nasrallah, we lost a brother, a dear friend and a great leader. He was present on the battlefield and pursued the line of jihad for many years. He followed the path of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, and his successor Ayatollah Khamenei.”

“Seyyed Nasrallah was the leader of freedom fighters, and his primary goal was the liberation of Palestine and holy al-Quds. Know that he will always be among us,” he added.

Sheikh Qassem stated that Israeli forces are killing and committing massacres against civilians across Lebanon, and are attacking civilian and health facilities.

“The Zionist regime does not face off resistance fighters, but it rather kills innocents. The US is a partner with Israel, through unlimited military support – culturally, politically, financially,” Sheikh Qassem pointed out.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the top Hezbollah official underlined that Israel is delusional if it thinks that it can achieve its goals through massacres and Western support.

Sheikh Qassem stated that Hezbollah fighters are prepared and “we will emerge victorious in case the Israeli enemy decides to launch a ground invasion of Lebanon.”

“Israel will not be able to degrade our military capabilities,” he stressed.

“Following the martyrdom of Seyyed Nasrallah, Ma’ale Adumim settlement was targeted and millions of settlers in Haifa had to take refuge in shelters. What we are doing now is the least of our capabilities on the battlefield.”

“We know that the battle might be lengthy. All options are on the table and we are ready for all scenarios,” he said.

Sheikh Qassem also noted that Hezbollah will pick a new secretary-general in the near future.

“We will choose the secretary general for Hezbollah sooner rather than later, according to the mechanism that we have in place,” he added.

He also praised the national unity in Lebanon and thanked the Lebanese government, political forces, all non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and hospitals.

“We will win, just as we won in our confrontation with Israel in 2006,” Hezbollah’s deputy chief concluded.

Lebanon says ready to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 amid Israel attacks

UNIFEL

“We affirm our agreement and pledge to implement the cease-fire immediately with Israel,” Mikati said following a meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut.

He added that Lebanon is ready to send its army to the southern region in coordination with the UN peacekeeping mission (UNIFIL).

Adopted on Aug. 11, 2006, the resolution calls for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel and the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the Blue Line (the boundary between Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River, allowing only the Lebanese army and UNIFIL to possess weapons and military equipment in the area.

Several Israeli media reports emerged of a possible ground operation in southern Lebanon amid massive airstrikes across the country.

Mikati said his talks with Berri took up several internal issues, including the situation of displaced people and the need to provide necessary support for them.

The Lebanese premier added he will meet with representatives from donor countries on Tuesday to request aid for Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities estimate that around 118,800 have taken refuge in 780 shelters across Lebanon due to Israeli attacks in recent days.

Mikati noted Lebanon will accept “all donations” from international sources, ensuring they will be distributed transparently through the UN to those in need.

He also highlighted the importance of electing a new president for Lebanon through a consensus among all parties.

Mikati noted that Berri assured him he would call for a parliamentary session to elect a consensus president as soon as a cease-fire with Israel is achieved.

Lebanon has been without a president for nearly two years following the end of Michel Aoun’s term in 2022. A divided parliament has so far been unable to elect a new leader.

Makiti held talks in Beirut early Thursday with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.

“The solution lies in ending Israeli aggression on Lebanon and returning to the cease-fire call made recently by the US and France, supported by the EU and several Arab and foreign countries,” he stressed.

Since Sept. 23, Israel has launched massive airstrikes against what it calls Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, killing more than 900 people and injuring over 2,700 others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Several Hezbollah commanders have been killed in the Israeli raid, including its leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed nearly 41,600 people, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.

The international community has warned that Israeli attacks in Lebanon could escalate the Gaza conflict into a wider regional war.

Iran refutes engaging in nuclear negotiations under West pressure

Nasser Kanaani

Referring to a recent meeting between Macron and Pezeshkian at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Kanaani emphasized that Iran has demonstrated it will not succumb to pressure while maintaining its principled stances and views.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the spokesperson ruled out the possibility of holding talks based on the demands of other parties.

“The Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) seeks specific objectives that are unrelated to other issues. The door remains open for the responsible return of all parties to their nuclear commitments, but this must occur within the established framework,” the Iranian diplomat stated.

Regarding a possible visit by Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to Iran, Kanaaani said Grossi could visit within a previously negotiated framework, and that the trip would take place in due course.

He added that if the IAEA is committed to addressing mutual concerns, the remaining issues between Iran and the agency could be resolved through professional dialogue.

During his recent trip to the UN, the Iranian president announced that Tehran is ready to resume nuclear talks with the other parties, should they return to their obligations.

The Iran nuclear deal was clinched between Tehran and the 5+1 group of countries, the US, Russia, China, France, the UK plus Germany in 2015.

The US, under former President Donald Trump, withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and re-imposed sanctions on Iran.

Around 17k kids killed in Israeli war on Gaza: Report

Gaza War

“Around 25,973 Palestinian children now live in Gaza without one or both parents due to the Israeli aggression,” Ismail al-Thawabta, who heads Gaza’s government media office, told Anadolu.

He added at least 16,859 children, including 171 infants, have been killed in Israeli attacks since Oct. 7, 2023.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has repeatedly warned that “Gaza’s children have endured unimaginable horrors” under relentless Israeli attacks.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last Oct. 7, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

Nearly 41,600 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 96,200 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the besieged enclave.

100,000 flee Lebanon for Syria amid Israeli attacks: UN

Lebanon War

“The number of people who have crossed into Syria from Lebanon fleeing Israeli airstrikes — Lebanese and Syrian nationals — has reached 100,000. The outflow continues,” Filippo Grandi wrote on X.

“UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) is present at four crossing points alongside local authorities and Syrian Red Crescent to support new arrivals,” Grandi added.

Since Sept. 23, Israel has launched massive airstrikes against what it calls Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, killing more than 900 people and injuring over 2,700 others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Several Hezbollah commanders were killed in the assault, including its leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an airstrike in Beirut on Friday.

Iranian president criticizes Western double standards on human rights

Masoud Pezeshkian

The remarks come as Israel has been waging a bloody massacre against Palestine and Lebanon. While around 43,000 people have died in Gaza, hundreds of Lebanese have been killed in Israeli air raids on Lebanon.

President Pezeshkian pointed out that while the US and the West react strongly to individual rights violations in nations like Iran, they ignore the mass murder of innocent people by the Zionist regime, effectively endorsing such crimes.

He made the remarks in separate meetings held in the Iranian presidential office on Monday to receive the credentials of new ambassadors from Sudan, Denmark, Niger, Germany, Qatar, and Norway.

He wished them success and emphasized Iran’s commitment to enhancing relations and cooperation with neighboring and regional countries, as well as other nations worldwide.

The Iranian president reiterated his administration’s policy of cooperation based on mutual respect and interests.

In meetings with the new ambassadors of Sudan and Niger, the president stressed Iran’s determination to expand cooperation and improve bilateral relations in different spheres.

He also highlighted the history of friendly ties with Denmark, Germany, and Norway, expressing his administration’s aim to revive and expand these ties, particularly in economic and commercial fields.

President Pezeshkian also appreciated Qatar’s efforts in establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and emphasized the importance of unity among Islamic countries in opposing the Zionist regime’s crimes.

The new ambassadors expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and improving bilateral relations during their tenure.

MP: 1,590 nurses resigned in Iran last year amid growing healthcare crisis

COVID in Iran

Citing the latest figures provided by the Iranian Nursing Organization, Es’haqi warned of the alarming trend that underscores the severe shortage of healthcare professionals in the country.

He said the number of resignations from the nursing workforce is two to three times higher than the rate of migration.

The lawmaker added, “Approximately 2,000 nurses apply to leave Iran annually, seeking better opportunities abroad.”

“Currently, 2,000 Iranian nurses are working in Denmark, highlighting the global demand for their skills,” Es’haqi said, while noting there are only 300,000 nurses in Iran, a country of over 85 million people, which is far below the required number to adequately serve the population.

He said the Health Committee of the Iranian Parliament has called for immediate and practical measures to address the challenges faced by nurses.

The exodus of nurses is attributed to various factors, including inadequate working conditions, low salaries, and lack of professional support.

According to official figures, the average monthly salary of nurses in Iran ranges from 8 to 22 million Iranian tomans (approximately 190 ti 524 USD).

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine confirms death of 3 leaders in Beirut attack

Lebanon War

Muhammad Abdel Aal, also known as Abu Ghazi, a member of the PFLP’s political bureau and the head of its military security department, Imad Odeh, also known as Abu Ziad, a member of the PFLP’s military department and a military commander in Lebanon, and Abdul Rahman Abdel Aal, who it described only as a “comrade martyr hero” were killed in the Israeli raid in the Lebanese capital.

PFLP pledged to “continue the path of struggle and resistance until the occupation will be swept away no matter how long it takes, and no matter how great the sacrifices”.

Israel carried out an airstrike near Kola intersection in central Beirut in the early hours of Monday morning, the first time it has struck Beirut outside the southern suburbs since 2006.

The sound of the explosion was heard around the city.

Kola intersection is a popular reference point in Beirut, where taxis and buses gather to pick up awaiting passengers.

Initial pictures from the scene of the raid showed two stories of an apartment building completely blown out. A video showed onlookers running towards the building, and a mangled body laying on the sidewalk outside the building, seemingly ejected by the force of the blast.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine was founded by George Habash in 1967 as an umbrella organisation for Marxist-Leninist and Arab nationalist groups after Israel occupied the West Bank and seized East Jerusalem.

Its military wing, known as the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, is active in Gaza where it has worked alongside Hamas.

The PFLP calls for the creation of a democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine through armed struggle.

The EU and US have designated both its political and military wings “terrorist organisations”.
