Holding referendum sole democratic solution to Palestinian issue: Iran

Mohammad Reza Aref

He said Iran proposes a referendum with the participation of all the Palestinians, including Muslims, Christians and Jews based on the principle of “every Palestinian, one vote”.

He added that this proposal will restore the right of Palestinians to determine their fate.

Iran also believes avoidance of division among Muslim countries serves as a macro strategy to deal with the conspiracies of ill-wishers against Muslims, Aref stated.

The Iranian vice president said all Muslim and Arab countries shoulder a heavy responsibility to take a firm and collective measure aimed at stopping the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinians and occupation of their homeland.

He added that Muslim and Arab countries must develop strategies to ensure the non-repetition of Israel’s crimes and adequately compensate for the damages inflicted on the Palestinian and Lebanese people.

Aref noted the United Nations and the Security Council lack the ability to put an end to Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people and onslaught on the Lebanese nation due to the unwavering support of the US and certain Western countries for the regime.

“Under such circumstances, our responsibility as heads of Muslim and Arab countries multiplies,” the Iranian vice president stated.

He censured the Israeli regime for shamelessly violating all the principles and rules of international law, tearing up the United Nations Charter at the General Assembly and declaring the UN Secretary General persona no grata.

“We all have a moral obligation not to remain silent in the face of one of the worst evils left over from the last century, namely the bloody occupation of the Palestinian land and continuous displacement and genocide of a nation,” the Iranian official said.

Aref added there is “shameful tragedy” in the crimes of Israel in Palestine for more than one year and in Lebanon for the past month, which is rooted in the “impunity of criminals” who consider themselves worthy of the “unquestioning support” of the US and certain Western countries.

“The American government is the main supporter of the actions of the Zionist regime (Israel) and the world is waiting for the promise of the new government of this country to immediately stop the war on the innocent people of Gaza and Lebanon.”

He stated the Israeli leaders have defined their survival in the existence of chaos and war inside the occupied territories and in the surrounding region.

The Iranian vice president called for firm condemnation of the crimes of Israel and unflinching support for the Palestinian cause.

Aref expressed hope that the Riyadh summit would take effective and coordinated measures to counter the Israeli regime’s barbarism.

Hezbollah says Israel failed to occupy one single village in Lebanon

Israeli Army

“After 45 days of intense fighting, Israel has failed to occupy even a single Lebanese village,” Afif said during a press conference held in the Dahiyeh neighborhood in the south of the country’s capital Beirut on Monday.

He stressed that it was rather Hezbollah fighters’ determination and their intimate knowledge of the land that were among the decisive elements on the battlefield.

He also addressed claims by the Israeli regime’s former minister for military affairs, Yoav Gallant, about alleged depletion of Hezbollah’s missile stockpiles.

“Our missile stockpiles are complete in the same way that they were on the first day [of the struggle against the Israeli regime],” the official asserted, citing the movement’s continued firing of the projectiles towards the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa in the occupied Palestinian territories as proof of his assertion.

“Hezbollah continues to increase its missile stockpiles, both in quantity and quality,” he stated, and affirmed that the movement’s fighters on the frontlines “have enough weapons and supplies for a prolonged war on all fronts.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the official insisted that the movement “does not accept defeat”.

“Our concept of victory comprises prevention of realization of the enemy’s political and military goals,” he said, adding that it was rather refusal to resist that would translate into defeat for the group.

“The realities of the battlefield are solely in their (the resistance fighters’) hands,” Afif stated, and noted that “these will ultimately decide the political outcome and strategy”.

The fate of the entire West Asia region would also be determined by the perseverance and combat efforts of the resistance’s fighters, the official remarked.

He, meanwhile, reflected on the emergence of Hezbollah, calling it “a natural response to occupation”.

In conclusion, the official asserted that the Israeli regime had suffered defeat across the entire world and the international public opinion.

He cited the existing international solidarity with the Palestinian cause as a case in point, saying the solidarity was recently witnessed by the popular confrontation that took place in the face of anti-Palestinian violence waged by Israeli thugs in the Dutch capital Amsterdam.

Israel launched a massive air campaign in late September in Lebanon against what it claims are Hezbollah targets in an escalation in a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the group since the start of Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza.

More than 3,000 people have been killed and over 13,500 injured in Israeli aggression since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel expanded the conflict by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon in early October.

Britain, France trying to persuade US to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia: Report

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron

According to the newspaper, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron hope President Joe Biden will give the approval sought by Kyiv for months as a step towards cementing his foreign policy legacy.

“We are very keen to make sure we can make the most of the time between now and Jan. 20 (when Trump takes office) and not just put everything on hold until the next administration,” one source was quoted as saying.

Trump’s comments on Ukraine have emphasized speedy results over long-term support, and he has refrained from saying he wants Ukraine to prevail over Russia.

He has repeatedly promised to end the war “in 24 hours”, and though he hasn’t yet elaborated a plan, it is largely expected to involve Ukraine ceding land to Russia.

However, with six weeks left to Trump’s inauguration, outgoing US President Biden could make decisions that he would have not made before, unburdened by the election campaign and responsibilities of another term in office.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s concerted campaign to get permission to use Western-supplied weapons like the US-made ATACMs and the UK’s Storm Shadows to strike deep inside Russia has, to date, failed.

In his latest call he highlighted how Ukraine could preemptively target “every camp” in Russia where North Korean troops are currently gathering.

This would be on top of some of the airbases from which Russia launches missile attacks against Ukrainian cities.

“I think the Biden administration would be very well advised simply to just drop its objections,” Ambassador Kurt Volker, who served as the US special representative for Ukraine negotiations in 2017-2019, told the Kyiv Independent last week.

“Just let Ukraine use the weapons we’ve given them. And this can be done quietly, it doesn’t have to be a big announcement. It can be done on a case-by-case basis, if the Biden administration insists,” he added.

“But there’s no justification for allowing Russia to attack Ukraine from anywhere, and to tell Ukraine that they must not strike back.”

Customs: Iran’s non-oil trade in past 7 months surpasses $70bn

Iran Trade

The report shows that the total non-oil exports, excluding crude oil, fuel oil, and kerosene, reached 88.701 million tons, valued at $32.52 billion. This represents an 11.48% increase in weight and a 14.72% increase in dollar value compared to the same period last year.

During the same period, the country’s imports amounted to 21.719 million tons, worth $39.5 billion, reflecting a 2.7% increase in weight and an 8.8% increase in dollar value.

Consequently, Iran’s total non-oil foreign trade – imports and exports – for the first seven months of the year exceeded 110.42 million tons, valued at over $72 billion.

China was the top destination for Iranian exports, accounting for $8.6 billion and 26.4% of the total export value. Other major export destinations included Iraq ($7.2 billion, 22.4%), the United Arab Emirates ($4.2 billion, 12.9%), Turkey ($3.3 billion, 10.2%), and Afghanistan ($1.3 billion, 4%).

On the import side, the United Arab Emirates topped the list with $12 billion and 30.3% of the total import value. Other significant import partners were China ($10.2 billion, 25.8%), Turkey ($6.5 billion, 16.6%), Germany ($1.4 billion, 3.6%), and Russia ($958 million, 2.4%).

Notably, Iran’s foreign transit reached 13.239 million tons, a 41.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

Ukraine claims Russia suffered deadliest day since start of full-scale invasion

Russia Ukraine War

The total surpasses the previous record of 1,740 in mid-May.

According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Russia’s total casualties now stand at 710,660.

The figures do not specify killed or wounded, though the overall consensus is that it includes dead, wounded, missing, and captured. They are broadly in line with estimates from Western nations.

While the Kremlin does not announce the number of dead and injured, Western officials have claimed October was the heaviest month yet for Russian forces.

The number of Russian troops injured and killed last month averaged 1,500 “every single day,” UK Defence Staff Chief Admiral Anthony Radakin told the BBC on Nov. 10.

This is higher than the previous figure presented by the UK Defense Minister John Healey, who told The Telegraph on Nov. 8 that Russia suffered 41,980 killed and wounded during October- a daily average of 1,354.

According to some experts, the surge in losses in recent months may be one of the factors behind the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia.

Russia is sacrificing high numbers of troops for “tiny increments of land,” Radakin told the BBC. However, he added that Russia is making “tactical, territorial gains,” and “putting pressure on Ukraine” amid a heavy offensive.

While Russian forces are suffering record losses, they’re also making increasingly swift gains in the east of Ukraine.

According to a Bloomberg analysis published on Nov. 1, Ukraine has lost 1,146 square kilometers of its own territory since the launch of the Kursk Oblast incursion in early August, with the week up until Nov. 1 reported as the worst in terms of lost territory in all of 2024.

On Nov. 2, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Ukraine was facing “one of the most powerful” Russian offensives since the start of the all out war.

Over autumn, large chunks of Ukrainian territory, sometimes including entire cities, have been lost on a near-daily basis in southern Donetsk Oblast, while Russian forces have also made operationally significant gains near Toretsk, Chasiv Yar, Kupiansk, as well as on their own soil in Kursk Oblast.

Human rights organization calls for famine declaration in northern Gaza

Gaza War

“Given that Israel has blocked the entry of goods and aid to the hundreds of thousands of besieged residents in the northern Gaza Strip for more than 50 days now, the relevant international and UN organizations must formally declare a famine in the region,” the independent organization said in a statement from its Geneva headquarters.

“Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon is one component of its ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, which also includes mass killings and forced displacement,” it added.

The statement stressed that tens of thousands of Palestinians, including many patients in three hospitals in northern Gaza, are in “immediate danger of starvation or long-term health consequences” due to the “illegal Israeli blockade”.

“By blocking the entry of all goods beginning on 1 October and launching a massive military assault against all citizens of Jabalia and Beit Lahia four days later, Israel has successfully divided the North Gaza Governorate from the rest of the Gaza Strip,” it noted.

Since Oct. 5, Israeli soldiers have destroyed hundreds of homes and shelters, killing around 1,900 Palestinians and injuring over 4,000, while forcing tens of thousands to flee.

Meanwhile, others remain in homes and shelters under dire situation, it said.

It highlighted that residents still in northern Gaza are under a suffocating blockade and subject to continuous and deliberate bombardment with no access to food, water or medical supplies and are targeted by drones if they attempt to leave in search of food or water.

It also pointed out that “Palestinians currently facing severe starvation, bombing and displacement hadn’t fully recovered from previous waves of starvation that occurred at various times late last year and multiple times in recent months”.

The report indicated that tens of thousands of those displaced from northern Gaza to Gaza City struggle to purchase essentials due to high prices and limited supplies and lack adequate assistance due to the unlawful Israeli blockade.

Conditions in southern Wadi Gaza are similarly dire as Israel continues to impose restrictions on the entry of goods, limiting the number of aid trucks allowed.

“All residents of the Gaza Strip are now reliant on foreign humanitarian aid due to a lack of employment opportunities, cash liquidity issues, and the collapse of local production capacity,” it added.

“Consequently, halting such aid would mean denying them access to food and other necessities that are essential to their survival.”

Iran calls on Trump admin. to fulfill campaign promises, cease Israeli crimes in West Asia

Esmail Baghaei

In his weekly press conference on Monday, Baghaei referred to the unwavering support of the current US government for the Israeli regime, stating that the regime’s genocide in Gaza and its aggression against Lebanon primarily stem from US backing.

He added this is an ominous legacy, and we hope the US government will prevent the intensification of Israel’s warmongering in the region.

Expressing regret over the UN Security Council’s inaction regarding the Israeli regime’s crimes, Baghaei attributed this to US obstruction.

The spokesperson also noted that over the past four years, the US government has adopted a hostile policy against the Iranian nation and has failed to fulfill its promises made during the election campaign concerning the Iran nuclear agreement (JCPOA), among other issues.

Baghaei emphasized that what matters to us about the recent US presidential election is the behavior of the next US government regarding Iran and the West Asia region.

The Iranian diplomat stated that world nations are closely monitoring the current and forthcoming behaviors of the US government.

He expressed hope that the US government will respect the rights of Palestinians to life, international law, and the commitment of all states to counter democide.

Netanyahu working from protected room in light of security fears since drone attack: Report

Benjamin Netanyahu

According to Channel 12 news, Netanyahu has told colleagues that he was instructed to use the better-protected basement-level room and to avoid being in known “permanent places”, due to ongoing concerns about aerial attacks after a Hezbollah drone struck his home in Caesarea last month.

The explosive drone, launched from Lebanon on October 19 by Hezbollah, detonated at Netanyahu’s home when he was not present, and it smashed — though it did not penetrate — a bedroom window, causing minor damage.

The Sunday report noted that the new security protocols may explain why cabinet meetings have lately been held in changing locations, and why the wedding of Netanyahu’s son Avner has apparently been postponed to a later date, not in the near future.

Hours after the report came out, Netanyahu’s lawyers filed a request to postpone the scheduled start of the his testimony next month at Jerusalem District Court, where he is on trial for three corruption cases, so that he will not be in the same place several times a week.

It has been reported that the court does not have a safe room or a bomb shelter.

Netanyahu is currently scheduled to start testifying on December 2 as the defense portion of the trial kicks off after the prosecution rested earlier this year. This testimony is expected to last several hours a day and take weeks to complete. The premier’s legal team asked late Sunday for the testimony to be postponed for two and a half months.

In July this year, Netanyahu’s legal team requested that the court postpone his testimony from November until March 2025 due to his need to manage the war, but the court rejected the request and set the date for December.

The prime minister has been charged with fraud and breach of trust in two cases and bribery, fraud and breach of trust in a third. He was indicted almost five years ago, in January 2020, and the trial began in May of that year. He denies all the allegations against him.

Last month’s attack on Netanyahu’s private residence came amid an ongoing Israeli onslaught against Lebanon.

More than 3,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since clashes between Hezbollah and Israel began in October 2023, according to the health ministry, including over 2,000 since September 23.

Trump holds phone call with Putin, discusses Ukraine war

Trump Putin

The phone call took place on Thursday, shortly after Trump secured his election victory. The US president-elect reportedly urged Putin not to “escalate” the conflict, reminding him of the significant US military presence in Europe, one of the sources told the daily.

Apart from that, Trump and Putin spoke about “the goal of peace on the European continent”, with the president-elect expressing interest in follow-up conversations to talk about “the resolution of Ukraine’s war soon”, several other unnamed individuals told the WaPo newspaper. The report gave no insights into what reaction, if any, Trump’s remarks invoked.

The daily also claimed that Kiev was “informed” ahead of the call and allegedly “did not object” – but the Ukrainian foreign ministry denied this part of the report.

“Reports that the Ukrainian side was informed in advance of the alleged call are false. Subsequently, Ukraine could not have endorsed or opposed the call,” Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tikhiy told Reuters.

The Kremlin has denied reports that Trump spoke directly with Putin by phone, branding the claim ” pure fiction”.

On Thursday, the president-elect told NBC News he had already spoken with “probably” 70 world leaders since his election victory, but Putin was not among them.

“I think we’ll speak,” Trump said at the time.

Trump has already spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who described the conversation as “positive” and added Trump’s outreach shortly after his victory was encouraging. Zelensky noted that he “cannot yet know” what Trump’s actions will ultimately be and that, should a resolution of the conflict be “just fast”, it would likely mean “losses for Ukraine”.

Throughout his election campaign, Trump has repeatedly pledged to swiftly end the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, potentially even before officially assuming office. However, he has not provided any concrete details on how he plans to achieve this.

Iran calls OIC, Arab League meeting on ending conflict in Lebanon, Palestine

Mohammad Reza Aref

Prior to his departure to the Saudi capital, Riyadh on Monday, to attend the second emergency meeting of the OIC and the Arab League, Aref stated the meeting is being held with the follow-up of Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

Aref expressed hope that the consultations during the meeting would lead to a favorable outcome regarding the cessation of Israeli aggression in Lebanon and Palestine and a sustainable ceasefire in the region, with the cooperation of all Islamic and Arab countries.

He said addressing humanitarian aid and the plight of Palestinian and Lebanese refugees is of utmost importance for the meeting.

“We hope to achieve significant results in providing aid to the displaced and those affected by the attacks and crimes of the Zionist regime,” Aref added.

The emergency meeting attended by representatives from over 50 Arab and Islamic countries, is set to begin later on Monday, with Araghchi and Aref representing Iran.
