The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks on Monday in a meeting with Sudanese Minister of Human Resources, Development and Labor Ishraqa Sayed Mahmoud.

Referring to the ongoing crisis in Iraq, Zarif said, “What is happening is a foreign conspiracy with the aim of preventing the strong presence of the Muslim world in the arena of regional and international developments.”

Zarif added that Islamic countries must be vigilant and have a strategic view on the developments, noting that they should not allow enemies to sow seeds of discord among them.

The Iranian official further pointed to the relations between the two countries and said, “We have a strategic view of the relations between the two countries, and highly value our ties with the Sudanese government and people.”

The Sudanese minister, for her part, called for further cooperation among Muslim nations, particularly Iran and Sudan, in the face of common challenges.

“Nothing can disrupt the trend of the age-old, friendly and brotherly relations between the two Muslim countries and Sudan will always remain allied [to Iran] and stand by Iran,” the Sudanese official added.

Militants of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are wreaking havoc on Iraq.

Iraqi Premier Nouri al-Maliki has repeatedly said that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some other Persian Gulf Arab states are supporting the militancy in Iraq.

The Iranians missed several chances for netting the ball, and a goal from Lionel Messi sealed a victory for the South American side.

Iran resisted Argentina’s pressure for 90 minutes and seemed destined for another draw at the tournament until Barcelona star Lionel Messi scored Argentina’s winner in the 91st minute of the match on Saturday.

To much surprise the Serbian referee overlooked the Argentinesˈ tackle in the box which brought down Iranˈs Ashkan Dejagah.

Iranˈs manager Carlos Queiroz criticized the referee, saying the fate of the match was determined by him and Messi.

The chance is still much in play for Iranˈs national football team, but now theyˈll almost certainly have to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in their last match on Wednesday.

Argentina play Nigeria and Iran play Bosnia-Herzegovina in group F on Wednesday.

Argentina advanced into the final 16 of the World Cup with six points. The South Americans opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In the opening 45 minutes, Argentina made several attempts in Iran’s half which were blocked by Iran’s defenders and goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi.

Iran held the match well in the second half and managed Argentina’s heavyweight attacks.

Right after the break, the Iranian squad caught Argentina off-guard with a Reza Ghoochannejad header that very nearly rattled the South Americanˈs net.

In the 56th minute of the match, Ashkan Dejagah was tackled by Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta inside the Argentina box. Replays showed that Zabaleta did not get a touch to the ball and that Iran should have had a penalty.

Dejagah, the Fulham star, almost scored Iran’s first goal in the 67th minute. But Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero tipped Dejagah’s header over the bar.

Iran missed another brilliant chance in the 86th minute after Ghoochannejad lumbered through on goal at the other end after a splendid pass from the substitute Alireza JahanBakhsh. His shot was saved by Romero.

Iran’s coach Carlos Queiroz told reporters right after the match that two people made the difference in the match, the referee and Messi.

The match was the first World Cup encounter between Iran and Argentina. The two had played a friendly match in 1977 in Madrid, with the game ending 1-1.

Iran won its first point of the games in a goalless match against Nigeria on June 16.

The three-time Asian champions are back at the FIFA World Cup after it missed the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Mohamamd Saleh Jokar, Yazd’s representative to the parliament told Mehr News that after nuclear negotiations between Iran and the world powers the foreign ministry would come to parliament to report to the Parliament.

“Zarif will answer questions on progress in the negotiations, issues of discord, and positions of Powers on Tehran nuclear program,” added Jokar.

The fifth round of political-level  nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 group – US, UK, China, Russia, France plus Germany –  were held in the Austrian capital of Vienna which ended in Friday June, 20.

The current process of negotiations between Iran and the major powers are meant to build on the landmark interim nuclear deal they clinched last November in Geneva.

Under the Geneva deal, Iran agreed not to expand its nuclear program for six months in exchange for limited sanctions relief. The agreement came into force on January 20. Iran and the major powers have set a July 20 deadline to clinch a long-term nuclear deal. The deadline can be extended by another half year if both sides agree.

Envoy: Kabul Keen to Sign Transit Deal with Iran, India Via Chabahar

Chabahar transitory agreement

“We are expecting the Chabahar transitory agreement to be signed between Afghanistan, India and Iran in the near future, that will help the trade volume go higher and higher,” Abdali said.

Iran’s southern Chabahar Port provides a short route for the transportation of goods between the two countries.

“We are expecting an alternative trade route to Afghanistan which will be sustainable and long term, that is the Chabahar port,” he added.

The port is already connected to the city of Zaranj in Afghanistan’s Southwestern province of Nimrouz and can serve as India’s entry point to Afghanistan, Central Asia and beyond.

Indian Ambassador to Kabul Amar Sinha had also stressed the significance of Chabahar Port for the transportation of Indian goods to Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan and India have already agreed on a draft on the transition that they would use through Iran, the Chabahar Port. We have shared that draft with Iran and are expecting the Iranians to reply very shortly,” Abdali said.

He further said the trade between the two countries will see a dramatic rise when the port is used for transit.

“I am sure once the port comes into operation in full swing, we can look at increasing the $600 million trade to $5 billion in maximum 5 years,” he added.

The Afghan ambassador had earlier welcomed the trilateral transit agreement on Iran’s southeastern port, which is meant to provide a route for trade with landlocked Afghanistan.

Chabahar port — located 72 kilometers (44 miles) west of Pakistan’s Gwadar port — holds immense strategic and economic significance for India.

Iran and Afghanistan have considerably increased the volume of their trade transactions, trade officials said, adding that the two countries also plan to establish a joint company in Chabahar Free Trade Zone in Southern Iran.

“We are looking for the establishment of a joint company with Afghanistan in Chabahar for exports and imports,” Iran’s Commercial Attaché in Afghanistan Mohammad Mehdi Javanmard said.

Meantime, Head of Sistan and Balouchestan Industries, Mines and Trade Organization said that the value of Iran’s trade transactions with Afghanistan has hit $2.4 billion and 90 percent of that is from Sistan and Balouchestan province.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan, which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.

Iran has built several roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts during the last five years.

Renault Willing to Resume Activity in Iran

“Renault is looking for a financial partner to resume activities in Iran,” a top Renault executive said.

Renault is willing to resume vehicle assembly cooperation with Iranian automakers Iran Khodro and Pars Khodro, Renault’s Chief Performance Officer Jerome Stoll said in Istanbul.

He also stated that Renault is determined to take back the significant market position it enjoyed before the US-led sanctions on Iran were toughened in 2012.

Renault was forced in July 2013 to halt completely knocked down (CKD) shipments to Iran when the US government extended economic sanctions against Tehran to the automobile sector.

Renault reported a huge fall in profits for the first half of 2013 after writing off the entire value of its business in Iran. The firm suffered a loss of 512 million euros (USD 680 million) after halting its activities in the Islamic Republic.

In 2012, Renault sold a total of 100,783 vehicles in Iran, and had a 10-percent market share. Iran was Renault’s eighth-biggest global market by sales, above Italy and Spain.

The news comes as Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany) began writing draft of a final deal.

The two sides clinched a landmark interim deal in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24, 2013.

Under the Geneva Joint Plan of Action, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period.

Leader’s Aide: Iran Ready to Help Iraq If Baghdad Asks

Ali Akbar Velayati : Iran Helps Iraq
Ali Akbar Velayati

“Iran is ready to provide Iraq with any kind of help if it is asked by the ‘legal’ government in Baghdad,” Velayati said on Thursday.

The Supreme Leader’s top advisor said Iran will not cooperate with the US over the crisis in Iraq as Tehran and Washington pursue different objectives in helping the Iraqi nation.

“While Washington is after gaining dominance over Iraq by offering help to Baghdad, Tehran is not after bad purposes and does not seek to interfere in the crisis-hit country’s domestic affairs,” Velayati said.

He explained that if Washington truly intends to help Iraq counter the ongoing Takfiri violence, it should first condemn terrorism and those parties that support and fund the terrorists.

On Wednesday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces General Hassan Firouzabadi rejected western media speculations about Tehran’s likely cooperation with the US over Iraq, and also stressed that Iran has not deployed troops in Iraq.

“There is no need to the presence of Iranian forces in Iraq,” General Firouzabadi told reporters, and added, “Cooperation between Iran and the US will never take place and is meaningless.”

He pointed to the capture of Iraq’s Nineveh province by the ISIL as the result of a premeditated and coordinated plan, and said, “Such works do not mean brave military operations.”

General Firouzabadi further blamed former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for having prepared the grounds for the presence of ISIL in the region by collecting cash from the regional countries, and said, “They prepared the grounds for Takfiris to gather naive Muslim youth with Jihadi motivations under the command of Baathists who had defected Iraq’s army.”

And these criminals (Takfiris), who do not have the power to fight in a war, have recruited the youth aged between 18 to 20 years, he added.

“The ISIL is a move by Israel and the US to create a safe margin for the Zionists against the resistance forces in the region and their recent attempt was a reaction to the recent victories of President Bashar Al-Assad in Syria and the (Syrian) people’s massive turnout in that country’s presidential election as well as victories … in Iraq,” General Firouzabadi said.

Yet, he said the ISIL’s attack has backfired as its uncalculated and angry move has resulted in the unity of religious leaders in Iraq.
