Iran Considers WMD as Redline for Its Defence Program: Leader

The Leader made the remarks addressing a group of top officials and specialists of Iran’s Ministry of Defence after touring an exhibition of the achievements of Iran’s defence industries on Wednesday, August 31.
“Under conditions when bullying world powers have spread their umbrella of power and no mercy is seen in them and openly attack marriage ceremonies and hospitals on the pretext of fighting against terrorism, killing hundreds of innocent people without being accountable to any [international] organization or institution, [Iran’s] defensive capability and power must be increased so that bullying powers would feel threatened,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader added that Iran considers limitations for developing its defence industries and considers building nuclear and chemical weapons prohibited on the basis of its ideological beliefs.
“Apart from these limitations, there is no limitation in other fields for increasing our defence and military capability and progress in these fields is a duty,” the Leader said, adding that to preserve the country’s security and future of the nation, “in addition to defensive capability, offensive capability should be also bolstered.”

US Not Morally Qualified to Talk about Iran
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said the US government is not morally qualified to pass judgment on the Islamic Republic, noting that this includes both the ruling Democrat Party and its rival, the Republican Party.
The Leader said “creation of dangerous terrorist networks” was the “biggest sin” committed by the party that supports the incumbent US administration, adding, “The existing government of America apparently attacks one terrorist group, but excludes another terrorist group, which means that politics is governing ethics.”
Saying that the former US administration was also responsible for crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, Ayatollah Khamenei concluded that “none of the two dominant parties in America is preferable over the other in terms of moral competence.”

No Understanding with US through Negotiations
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say, “We are faced with such government in America and it would be a mistake to think that we can reach understanding and common grounds [with them] through negotiations.”
“This is why I insist on the necessity of not negotiating with America and experience has proven that instead of understanding, Americans are trying to impose their demands through negotiations, a prominent example of which was the recent developments [regarding Iran’s nuclear deal].”

Tehran, Baku to Jointly Build Power Plants

The bill passed by the Parliament authorizes the construction of the plants near the Aras River borderline in the Iranian town Marazad and Azerbaijan’s Ordubad.
The bill was passed with a majority of votes with 180 voters being for, 9 against and 5 abstentions.
This was part of several topics that Iran and Azerbaijan agreed on in a basic agreement they signed in December 2015.
The document envisages cooperation in construction of power plants at Khoda Afarin and Qiz Qalasi dams on Aras River as well as construction of Ordubad power plant on the Azerbaijani side and Marazad power plant on the Iranian side, Azernews.com reported. Moreover, the agreement involves the implementation of joint guideline operations on border rivers’ water management.
Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian previously said that cooperation with Azerbaijan in water and electricity sectors should be boosted. He also said that Tehran and Baku have held talks over construction of geothermal and wind power plants in Iran’s Meshkin Shahr and Khaf cities respectively, and the projects were said to kick off soon.
Iran and Azerbaijan have been recently increasing their cooperation in multiple areas. Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani visited Baku in early August for a tripartite summit that also involved Russia. During his stay in the Azeri capital, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a series of basic agreements to promote cooperation in several key areas.
A key document was a protocol of intentions that envisages the materialization of an ambitious project to create a North-South transport corridor.
The corridor – named the North-South Transport Corridor (NSTC) – is an intercontinental multi-modal route that would link St. Petersburg to Mumbai. It primarily involves moving freight from India, Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia via ship, rail and road.

Iran Slams Saudi Minister’s Anti-Iran Claims

Bahram Qassemi was reacting to comments by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir who accused Tehran on Wednesday of “supplying weapons to Houthis” in Yemen and “destabilizing Arab countries”.

“Saudi authorities are bogged down in a bloody quagmire of terrorism and massacre of innocent women and children in Yemen, Syria and Iraq as a result of their egregious strategic errors”, Qassemi said on Thursday.

He urged the Saudis to reconsider their approaches toward the region instead of desperate cries and repeated bogus claims.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman went on to add that notwithstanding Saudi officials’ attempts to cover up the kingdom’s crimes, the world is well aware today that Riyadh is using its petrodollars to kill children in Yemen and that it is the source of incitements in the region.

The Saudi foreign minister’s allegations of Iran’s involvement in Yemen come at a time when Yemen’s defenseless people are under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to the UN, nearly 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

Iran to Break Ground on New Nuclear Plants: AEOI Chief

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi

In an interview with IRIB on Wednesday, Salehi said, “(Construction) of the Bushehr-1 and 2 nuclear power plants will be launched on September 10″.

He added that Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and the head of Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, will be present at the ceremony.

Salehi further said a credit worth more than $10 billion will be allocated to construction of these two plants, which he described as one of the country’s key nuclear projects.

With the two power plants becoming operational, 22 million barrels of crude will be saved annually in the country, he said, adding that 14 million tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will be also stopped from getting into the atmosphere per year.

Russia has already built a power plant in the city of Bushehr. The agreement for Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was finalized in 1995, but the project was delayed several times due to a number of technical and financial issues.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the AEOI chief said Iran has the capacity to produce 20 tons of heavy water a year.

Saying that European countries have expressed willingness to purchase Iran’s heavy water, Salehi said Iran produces and offers to the world high quality heavy water and enriched uranium as two strategic commodities.

Back in April, the US government completed an $8.6-million deal to buy 32 metric tons of heavy water from Iran.

Later, US lawmakers voted for a bill that would prohibit such purchases next year. The measure is yet to be approved by the US Senate.

Iran Rejects Britain’s Anti-Iran Claims as ‘Unrealistic’

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi released a statement late on Wednesday, stressing that London should be well aware that Iran “as a victim of terrorism has always been at the forefront of the fight against extremism and terrorism” in the region, Syria in particular.

The remarks came after a British Foreign Office spokesman, in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, accused Iran of “fostering instability in the Middle East.”

Qassemi further described the anti-Iran comments as “improper and unrealistic”, and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as everyone knows, is trying to help (restore) peace, stability and security to the region to the best of its ability”.

Iran has advisory presence in Syria at the request of the Damascus government, he went on to add.

Stressing that there are no good and bad terrorists, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said the Islamic Republic would not allow Takfiri terrorists to continue killing innocent people in the strategic Middle East region any more.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of Takfiri terrorism.

Ground-Breaking Deal on Aleppo Imminent: Russian Deputy FM

“We are a couple of steps away from what I hope would be a ground-breaking deal on resolving the particular situation around Aleppo,” Ryabkov told the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday.

“Our (Russian and American) military people will meet again in the next few hours to finalize the deal. We are not there yet,” the senior Russian diplomat added.

Ryabkov is in Tehran on an official visit to meet with senior Iranian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi.

Implementation of the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and the developments in war-hit Syria are expected to be discussed in the meetings.

Aleppo has been divided since 2012 between government forces in the west and militants in the east. Syrian forces have been engaged in a major operation to liberate the militant-held areas of the city.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011 and according to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, over 400,000 people are estimated to have been killed in the conflict.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces since September 2015 has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Iran has also remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of militancy.

ISIS Uses German Teenager for Its Executions

According to a report by Al Alam News Network, as translated by IFP, a source in Iraq’s Nineveh province said that the German teenager has been assigned by ISIS commanders as the group’s executor.

The source, quoted by Al Sumaria news, said that teenagers, from 10 to 17 years of age, are being used by ISIS for suicide attacks against Nineveh security forces.

“After the decrease in ISIS members’ wages, many of them have either fled the battlefield or refuse to fight,” the source noted.

“This is why they have been forced to put teenagers in charge of their operations.”

“The ISIS terrorist group has established schools to train hundreds of children for future use in suicide attacks against Iraqi forces,” the source went on to say.

Electric Motorcycles That Travel Around the World in 80 Days

A team from Eindhoven University of Technology has designed a motorcycle called STORM Wave which can give you a ride around the world in 80 days. The Dutch team is now in Iran.

A 24-member team from Eindhoven University of Technology managed to build an electric motorcycle that can travel around the world in 80 days.

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, the group of students from the Dutch university, who had set off on August 14 and have plans to get back to the Netherlands by November 2, hit the road on their self-built electric motorbikes to ride around the world in 80 days.

Motorcycle adventurers entered Iran from Turkey, crossing the city of Maku in Iran’s West Azarbaijan Province. They were welcomed by University of Tabriz at first and then by Sharif University of Technology in Tehran.

Their journey later took them to Iran’s north-eastern province of Golestan and the city of Gorgan. After riding their electric touring motorbikes through the city of Quchan in Iran’s northeast, they will leave the country through the border of Bajgiran to enter Turkmenistan; and from there they will head towards China and America.

Arash Armini, a member of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Sharif University of Technology, said that upon the arrival of the motorcycle adventurer, the university ran a workshop for them.

“Tehran was their 13th destination,” Armini emphasized.

He further mentioned that except for the Dutch STORM, there are three other teams which are going to unveil their achievements in the field of electric motorcycles.

Comparing the Dutch motorcycles and the ones which were built by the students of Sharif University of Technology, Armini noted, “STORM Waves have been designed for long-distance trips; however, the joint product of Electrical and Mechanical students of our university is apt for domestic trips only.”

A special feature of the electric touring motorcycles is the modular battery pack developed by the student team themselves. This consists of 24 separate cartridges with a maximum power capacity of 28.5 kWh, giving the motorcycles a range of 380 kilometres before recharging is needed.

The number of cartridges can also be adjusted, allowing a lighter weight and higher speeds to be achieved.

President Rouhani Hopes for Closer Iran-Malaysia Ties

In separate messages to Malaysian King Abdul Halim of Kedah and Prime Minister Najib Razak on Wednesday, President Rouhani felicitated the Malaysian national day and expressed the hope that bilateral relations between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur would develop in the future.

“It is my pleasure that relations between Iran and Malaysia have been growing in the atmosphere created after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” he said in his message to the Malaysian premier.

He further hoped that cooperation between the two friendly countries would be boosted more than ever in light of the “political will” of the Iranian and Malaysian officials.

Hari Merdeka is a national day of Malaysia, which marks the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957, and is celebrated on 31 August each year.
