Rouhani: Iran Dismantled Iranophobia Plot

President Hassan Rouhani

“Iran’s image today is different from what it used to be a few years ago,” he told a ceremony marking World Tourism Day in Tehran on Monday.

Rouhani credited his administration with “dismantling the Iranophobia plot,” saying Iran’s nuclear agreement has lightened up the mood for travel to the country.

“The situation today is such that those governments which deterred their citizens from traveling to Iran are advising their tourists to visit Iran as a safe country,” he said.

“We made a big investment for this security,” President Rouhani added.

The president touched on 12-13 years of unannounced visits to Iran’s nuclear facilities by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors, saying they finally declared Iran’s activities as peaceful.

“They finally said that the case of possible military dimensions has been closed and that they would now look at Iran’s future nuclear program and not the past. This marked an end to an important aspect of Iranophobia in the world.”

Rouhani described tourism as “one of the launchpads” of development, progress and growth, saying Iran must use its tourism attractions to achieve those goals.

“One of our important goals is the issue of employment, technology and investment. Through the tourism industry which apparently is an easy but in fact a complicated field, we should achieve these objectives.”

Rouhani said, “Iran is one of the top 10, or according to some people, five countries in the world in terms of natural, climatic, historical and cultural attractions.”

“The cultural heritage of this land is one of the most important attractions in its ethnic, religious and linguistic diversity and tradition which can become an important tourism target,” he added.

The president also touched on Iran’s celebration of Defense Week which marks the Iraqi invasion of the Islamic Republic under the former dictator Saddam Hussein in 1980 and hailed the sacrifices of “the great Iranian nation.”

“Like the beloved youths who managed then to defend Iran’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty and independence, our nation and its youths today have the same preparedness to defend the country and its revolutionary achievements.”

Leader Confirms Reports of His Advice to Ahmadinejad against Running for Presidency

Speculation has recently run rampant that the former president Ahmadinejad would run for presidency in the 2017 election.

There have been also reports that Ahmadinejad had a private meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei at the Leader’s residence in the past few weeks to purportedly announce his readiness to run for the president’s office.

Some political figures had earlier said that Ayatollah Khamenei has advised Ahmadinejad against running for upcoming presidential election due to be held in spring.

Speaking at the beginning of an advanced course on Islamic religious studies on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei confirmed that he has advised a gentleman [without mentioning a specific name] in a recent visit to “avoid getting involved in a certain event [election]” for the good of the country and of that individual himself.

“We did not tell him not to participate either,” the Leader explained, saying the individual has been told that his involvement “is not deemed expedient.”

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that a holistic view of the country’s situation and that specific figure’s conditions led to the recommendation that he had better avoid engagement in the event to prevent polarization of the country.

The Leader once again stressed that he has not ordered anybody to get involved or stay away, saying this is not about ruling, but about expediency, Tasnim reported.

Ayatollah Khamenei called on Iranian political figures to avoid taking actions that could provoke polarity within the society, warning that enemies are waiting to take advantage of disagreements among Iran’s political forces.

“Bipolarity is detrimental to the country,” Ayatollah Khamenei warned.

The Leader also reminded the political figures to refrain from “the moves that could risk the country’s unity and integrity”, saying the enemies are waiting to take advantage of any polarity or conflict in Iran.

“We need to move in the enemy’s opposite direction,” Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.

China to Invest in Iran’s Fishing Industry

Iran China Fishing

Based on the documents, signed in a meeting between the two in Tehran on Saturday, China will invest 20 billion Yuans ($3 billion) in different parts of Iran’s fishery sector.

The Chinese minister of agriculture, Han Changfu, is visiting Iran at the head of a 20-strong delegation of investors to develop cooperation between the two countries in different agricultural areas, especially in fisheries.

In recent months, the two countries have sought to enhance ties in various spheres, especially economy and trade.

Back in January, China’s President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to the Iranian capital, during which high-ranking officials from the two sides signed 17 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).

International interest in ties with Iran has been growing since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a comprehensive nuclear deal and started implementing it on January 16.

The agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.

Iran to attend key oil meeting in Algeria

bijan namdar zangeneh

Shana news agency, affiliated to Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, said in a report that Zangeneh will deliver a speech in the first session of the Forum which will continue until 28 September.

What makes the event important is an extraordinary meeting between producers of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC producers to discuss the latest market situation on the sidelines of the IEF.

The key focus of the meeting will be a proposal by Saudi Arabia for producers to keep their oil output at January levels – what Riyadh believes will help stabilize the prices in markets.

Iran has so far rejected the call to freeze its output as unfair and emphasized that it will go ahead with its plans to increase its oil production.

Nevertheless, it had made it clear that it is ready to join the plan after its output reaches 4 barrels per day.

The country had been under multiple years of sanctions that limited its oil exports to 1 million barrels per day and also barred foreign investments in its oil industry.

The sanctions were lifted in January after a nuclear deal that Iran had reached with the so-called P5+1 group of countries – the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany – came into effect.

Reuters reported on Friday that Saudi Arabia has informed Tehran that it is ready to reduce its oil output provided that Iran agrees to cap its own output at its current level of 3.6 million mb/d over the remaining months to the end of 2016.

Iran is yet to formally react to the offer.

Allahyar Sayyadmanesh opened the scoring after 29 minutes before Mohammad Ghaderi doubled its advantage early in the second half and Alireza Asadabadi gave Vietnam a mountain to climb just after the hour.

A dominant Iran then put its opponent to the sword as Amir Khodamoradi and Sayyadmanesh’s double wrapped up a comfortable win as Abbas Chamanian’s side progressed to the last four and also ensured a return to India for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup as one of the tournament’s top four teams.

Iran has been scheduled to face winner of Oman and North Korea on Thursday.

US Pledges Not to Punish Banks Engaged with Iran: Zarif

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told Japan’s Kyodo news agency that he had received assurances from US Secretary of State John Kerry that greater efforts would be made to allay the concerns of European banks in dealing with Iran – concerns that he described as “undue”.

“The US says they encourage everybody outside the US to engage in business with Iran,” said Zarif. “Of course, we believe that was not sufficient, so we asked them to take further action to convince and actually remove the concerns of foreign institutions, particularly banks, about working with Iran,” he added.

Iran has been persistently urging European countries to take the required measures to encourage their banks to facilitate transactions with Tehran now that the sanctions have been removed.

In May, US Secretary of State John Kerry told a meeting of top EU bankers that they will not be penalized for conducting or facilitating business with Iran.

However, major European banks like the HSBC and others have already emphasized that Kerry’s assurances are not enough and a series of confusions that remain over transactions with Iran need to be cleared by Washington.

While major European banks have been reluctant to do business with Iran for fear of US retribution, smaller banks have already approached the country in search for post-sanctions business opportunities.

Parviz Aghili, head of the private Middle East Bank in Tehran, has told the media in mid-September that banks from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey and Belgium are preparing to work with Iran.

On the same front, Iran has also announced plans to establish new overseas branches of its banks in key European cities in what is seen as part of a policy to help facilitate banking transactions between the Islamic Republic and Europe.

Germany’s media reported in early September that three Iranian private banks – Middle East Bank, Parsian Bank and Sina Bank – will open branches in Munich.

Larijani Blames Wrong Policies of World Powers for Insecurity in Region

“Wrong policies and the support shown by global powers and some regional countries for terrorist groups have led to the spread of insecurity and instability in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria,” Larijani said in a meeting with the visiting Iraqi minister of planning and acting minister of trade, Salman al-Jameeli.

He reiterated the importance of resolving regional problems through political and diplomatic approaches.

The Iranian parliament speaker further renewed the Islamic Republic’s continued policies to supports efforts to restore stability and peace to the region.

As regards ties with Iraq, Larijani further deep-rooted historical, cultural and religious commonalities between the Iranian and Iraqi nations would be a cornerstone for the expansion of political, economic and parliamentary relations.

Also at the meeting, the Iraqi minister hailed Iran’s key role in fighting extremism and Takfiri ideologies in the region.

Jameeli called for efforts to speed up economic cooperation between the two countries.

Iraq denies presence of coalition forces in Mosul libration operations

“Troops participating in the plan to liberate Iraqi cities, including Mosul, are purely Iraqi,” said spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Yehia Rasoul on Sunday.

He noted that forces taking part in the operation will namely be the Iraqi army, anti-terrorism forces, the federal police, and the Popular Mobilization Units.

“The presence of the international coalition forces is meant for intelligence exchange, carrying out airstrikes against Daesh and training and arming Iraqi forces,” he added.

Rasoul made the announcement after media reports that the US was seeking to send 500 more troops into Iraq ahead of the operations to retake Mosul.

Over the last few months, Iraq has been preparing for the assault on Daesh in Mosul, the country’s second largest city which slipped into the hands of the terrorists in the summer of 2014. Government forces have managed to recapture all the other places that Daesh had seized, with the last major one being the city of Fallujah, about 50 kilometers west of the capital Baghdad, which was liberated in late June.

Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in the country in June 2014, and seized territory. Iraqi army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Mobilization Units are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.

Mount Sabalan in Northwestern Iran

The mountain offers many attractions throughout the year. On the slopes of the mountain the mineral water from springs attracts large numbers of tourists each year, many of whom have faith in healing properties attributed to the springs.

The nomadic people of the area live in small villages, with their round “Yurt” tents appealing to tourism. Sabalan has a sky resort (Alvares) and different tourist areas such as the Sarein spa. The mountain is known for its beautiful vistas, including the Shirvan gorge, where few climbers ever venture.

Senior Sunni Cleric Hails Ayatollah Khamenei’s Pro-Sunni Remarks

Leader

According to a report by Jomhouri Eslami Newspaper, as translated by IFP, Abdolhamid Esmail Zahi, the Sunni Friday prayers leader of Iran’s southeastern city of Zahedan, hailed the “valuable” remarks by Ayatollah Khamenei about the need to avoid provoking the emotions of Sunnis.

Abdolhamid Esmail Zahi

“The remarks made people so much happy, and were very effective on the unity of Muslim world, particularly the solidarity between Shiites and Sunnis,” he noted.

“The Leader advised against provoking the emotions of Sunnis, and we mutually believe that the emotions of no Islamic branch, including those of the Shiites, should be provoked.”

“We all know that the enemies of Islam are causing rift among Islamic countries, particularly in the Middle East, and are trying to create division between Islamic religions. However, they have not been successful in the Islamic Iran,” the senior cleric noted.

“We have always stood against extremism and radicalism, and will do so in future as much as we can,” he noted.

His remarks came after the Leader of the Islamic Revolution put emphasis on the significance of establishing unity among Muslims.

In a recent speech on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadeer, the Leader made it clear that any form of insult, projected towards Sunni scholars, would prevent the rational and documented foundations of belief in the Imamate from being heard.

Ayatollah Khamenei further urged that “do not incite emotions of the Sunni community. Some people feel, in order to prove themselves as Shiite, they need to insult Sunni figures. This goes against the mannerisms of the infallible imams. The fact, that there are TV stations launched to insult (Sunni figures) well, makes it crystal clear that they are funded by the British Treasury; this is British Shi’ism. This game, of insults, will have a contrary function. When you insult others, the words of truth won’t be heard.”

“Inciting emotions among other branches of Islam, in the name of Shi’ism, is actually the approach of ‘British Shi’ism’–whose outcome would be the emergence of vicious groups and mercenaries from the US, and the UK’s intelligence services, such as ISIS, Al-Nusra Front, and terrorist groups–who have committed multiple crimes and destruction in the region,” the Leader noted.
