Iran’s Judiciary Chief Warns of Western-Arab Plot to Partition Iraq

“We oppose the disintegration of Iraq and insist on Iraq’s unity and independence,” Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani said in a meeting with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri in Baghdad on Sunday.

He added that global powers have always used terrorism and imposed wars on regional nations in an attempt to plunder their assets and said such a plot was also hatched for Iraq because it is a rich and populous country.

He further pointed to the ongoing Iraqi military operations to recapture the northern city of Mosul from Daesh militants and expressed hope that the Iraqi people would emerge triumphant in the battle against Takfiri terrorism.

The Iraqi government soldiers, backed by allied fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units and Kurdish Peshmerga forces, launched a large-scale offensive to liberate the strategic city on October 17.

Mosul has been under Daesh control since 2014. The terrorist group has described the city as its so-called headquarters in Iraq.

There are reports that about 50,000 Iraqi ground troops are involved in the Mosul offensive, including 30,000 army troops, 10,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and the remaining 10,000 from police and Popular Mobilization Units.

Commander of Federal Police Forces Lieutenant General Raed Shaker Jawdat announced on Sunday that Iraqi forces have managed to establish control over 61 villages, purge 1,400 square kilometers of Daesh militants and evacuate 1,396 displaced families to safety zones.

He added that 747 Daesh terrorists have also been killed and 88 others captured during the mentioned period.

Jabouri, for his part, said Iran and Iraq are standing by each other in the fight against Takfiri terrorism which is abusing the name of Islam.

He added that his country would require more cooperation with Iran in different fields, particularly in the political and social sectors, after the liberation of Mosul and welcomes the expansion of ties with Tehran.

Amoli Larijani and Jabouri also exchanged views about strengthening Tehran-Baghdad judicial cooperation.

The Iranian Judiciary chief arrived in Baghdad on Saturday at the head of a high-ranking judicial delegation. Earlier on Sunday, he held talks with Medhat al-Mahmoud, the head of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the attorneys general of the two countries for cooperation on human rights issues and in the fight against terrorism.

Iran, Cyprus Agree to Boost Comprehensive Relations

“Given the geographical position of Cyprus and it being the closest member country of the European Union to Iran, relations between Iran and Cyprus have always been intimate,” Larijani said in a joint press conference with President of the Cypriot House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris in Tehran on Sunday.

He added that during earlier talks with Syllouris, the ongoing crises in the region and ways to fight terrorist groups were discussed.

The two sides exchanged views about the expansion of banking cooperation to facilitate transactions between Iranian and Cypriot tradesmen, Larijani said and added that Nicosia is resolute on removing all obstacles in this regard.

“It is important for us that relations between Iran and Cyprus grow in all cultural, economic, scientific and political fields,” the top Iranian parliamentarian said.

Larijani added that he had held “positive” negotiations with Syllouris and expressed hope that the Cypriot official’s visit to Tehran would bear favorable results.

‘Region needs support to establish peace’

For his part, the president of the Cypriot House of Representatives said the region needs massive support for the establishment of peace and security and this would not be achieved through military approaches or terrorist moves.

He added that his talks with Larijani were a positive move to bolster mutual relations in political, economic and cultural sectors, improve cooperation between Iran and the EUو and promote regional peace and security.

Syllouris arrived in Tehran on Sunday on a three-day visit at the invitation of the Iranian parliament speaker. He also plans to hold talks with other senior Iranian officials.

Iran: Use of US Weapons Against Yemeni Civilians a War Crime

qssemi

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Sunday rejected the allegations made by the head of US Naval Forces Central Command Vice Admiral Kevin Donegan.

Donegan recently claimed that the US and partner nations had intercepted five shipments of weapon headed from Iran towards Yemen.

Qassemi stressed that these false claims are being made as the West continues to sell deadly arms to Saudi Arabia.

“Everyday, an uncountable number of lethal weapons, bombs and US missiles are dropped by Saudi Arabia on the defenseless and oppressed civilians in schools, hospitals, jails and homes,” noted Qassemi.

He went on to stress that these actions are nothing short of “war crimes.”

Qassemi also criticized Saudi Arabia’s reelection as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, describing it as a catastrophe and a bitter tragedy.

He stressed that Riyadh’s reelection in the council is even more “regrettable” than the Saudis’ atrocities upon its impoverished neighbor.

Saudi Arabia has been launching airstrikes in Yemen since March 2015. The war was launched in an unsuccessful attempt to reinstate Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who has resigned as Yemen’s president. The UN puts the death toll from the military aggression at over 10,000.

A basis for talks

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Ansarullah movement has announced that a United Nations-proposed peace plan could be used as a “basis for discussion” but that it still contains “fundamental flaws.”

The Houthi fighters noted that the plan, proposed by UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, lacked in details and had timeframe flaws and also did not include a “total, permanent ceasefire” or refer to the lifting of the blockade against the impoverished country.

Ansarullah said it would relay the objections to the UN envoy during his upcoming visit to Sana’a.

On Saturday, Hadi turned down the UN peace proposal. He said the plan “rewards” the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The UN envoy submitted the peace plan to Yemeni warring sides during a three-day visit to Sana’a, with an aim to end the conflict. Ahmed has also held meetings with the Houthis and the General People’s Congress to get their support for a return to a cessation of hostilities to allow aid deliveries.

Peace talks, which were held between Yemen’s opposing parties in Kuwait, ended in deadlock in August.

Spokesman Rejects ‘False’ Claims about Iran’s Support for Taliban

qassemi

According to a report by ILNA, as translated by IFP, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi rejected the claims made by Zabihullah Mujahid, the Spokesman for the Afghan militant group Taliban, about Tehran’s support for the group.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a pioneer among regional countries in the fight against terrorist groups, and has paid heavy prices in its fight against these groups,” Qassemi said.

He further referred to Zabihullah’s claims as a pre-planned move ordered by the group’s sponsors and aimed at disturbing public opinion and spreading Iranophobia.

“The claim about Iran’s support for the group is nonsense, false, and a blatant lie,” he stressed.

Taliban’s move to raise such claims is a desperate effort to distract the world’s public opinion from Al Saud’s atrocities in the slaughter of innocent people of Yemen, he added.

Iran Top Regional Power: FM

Iran FM

“International circumstances have put Iran in such premium position that… it has undeniable influence on recent developments in the region and the world as the region’s top power,” Zarif said in an address to a conference of Iranian military attachés and representatives in foreign countries, held in Tehran on Sunday.

The ground is prepared for Iran’s power to turn into institutionalized and long-term influence and might in the international arena, the minister added.

He also emphasized the need for constant efforts to boost Iran’s military and economic power to cope with the current sensitive situation, which Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has described as a “critical historic turn.”

In comments in late August, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the need for strengthening the country’s military power, describing it as natural and an inalienable right.

In a world where bullying and domineering powers, who lack morality, conscience and humanity and have no qualms about invading countries and killing innocent people, are dominant, developing defensive and offensive industries is quite natural because security will not be achieved unless these powers feel the country’s might, the Leader reiterated.

Baby Tiger Found Wandering Streets of Iran’s Mashhad

According to a report by Tasnim, as translated by IFP, animal rights activists believe that the baby Bengal tiger wandering the streets of Mashhad belonged to the city zoo.

They believe the tiger has been sold by the zoo to a wealthy client, but it was kept in poor conditions and managed to run away.

However, the zoo officials have denied the remarks and stated that the tiger might have been imported to the country from Pakistan.

Tasnim also quoted an environment official as saying that the video does not seem to be taken in Khorasan Razavi province at all.

The issue, however, is being pursued by Iran’s Cyber Police, according to the official.

Leader’s Top Advisor: Iran Is Ready to Mediate between Turkey and Iraq

“Iran is ready to mediate between Turkey and Iraq to prevent a war from hapenning,” Ali Akbar Velayati said in an interview with the Iraqi Rudaw news channel on Sunday.

He also warned that Ankara’s intervention in Iraq and Syria would endanger Turkey’s growing economy.

Tensions between Turkey and Iraq appear to be at boiling point after the Iraqi prime minister condemned Ankara’s participation in retaking the ISIS-held city of Mosul. The Turkish president had previously told the Iraqi prime minister “to know his limits”.

“We will liberate our land through the determination of our men and not by video calls,” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi tweeted earlier this month.

The mocking message was an apparent reference to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s appearance via a nationally broadcast video call to a TV reporter amid a failed coup attempt in July.

Earlier in October, Erdogan said that Turkish forces must take part in the much-anticipated operation to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul, currently held by the ISIS terrorists.

The Turkish leader then drove his point home in even stronger terms.

“The Iraqi prime minister is insulting me, first know your limits,” he told a gathering of Islamic leaders in Istanbul.

“You are not my interlocutor, you are not at my level, you are not my equivalent, you are not of the same quality as me,” Erdogan said, addressing al-Abadi’s criticism of the Turkish military presence on Iraq’s territory. “Your screaming and shouting in Iraq is of no importance to us. You should know that we will go our own way.”

Turkey-Iraq relations have been at an impasse since last December, when Ankara deployed troops to the region of Bashiqa, Northeast of Mosul, with a stated goal of anti-ISIL training.

Iran’s Parliament Issues Biannual Report on JCPOA Implementation

par

The report was read out in an open session of the parliament on Sunday.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which took effect on January 16.

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has been tasked with monitoring “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.

The new report contains information about Iran’s measures to honor its commitments, the steps taken by the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3), the latest status of termination of the anti-Iran sanctions, the cases of US breach of the deal or its failure to meet commitments, and comes up with a series of suggestions.

The report deplores sluggish progress in global banking interaction with Iran, saying that major international banks are reluctant to work with Iran and that Tehran still has problems in financial transactions with the world.

It has also blamed concerns about cooperation with Iranian banks on Washington’s intimidating policies and the possibility of new penalties by the US government.

“Though the United States of America has undertaken tasks under the JCPOA and has seemingly taken action to honor them, it is trying to disrupt and delay carrying out its commitments in practice,” the report noted.

It further described US violations and obstructive measures in implementing the JCPOA as the “major challenge” that Iran faces now, but underlined that Washington will ultimately have to meet its commitments given the Iranian nation’s resistance and fortitude.
