Iran, China Ink Deal on Defence Cooperation

Iran-China

The agreement entails closer defence-military cooperation between Tehran and Beijing, sharing military experience, particularly in the field of training, as well as combatting terrorism and causes of regional insecurity.

Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Chinese counterpart General Chang Wanquan signed the deal after a meeting on Monday morning, preceded by an official welcome ceremony at Iran’s Defence Ministry.

In their talks, Brigadier General Dehqan described an “upgrade in long-term military and defence cooperation with China” as a top priority in Iran’s defence diplomacy agenda.

Iran, China Ink Deal on Defence Cooperation

Military collaborations between Iran and China will guarantee regional and international peace and security, Dehqan added, describing efforts to ensure stability in Asia and Oceania as a collective responsibility.

Warning against the spread of terrorism in Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, the Iranian minister said the threat posed by the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group has become a major global challenge.

He also voiced Iran’s readiness for concerted action against terrorism given the country’s experience over the past years, stressing that China can play a “very significant role” in that process.

For his part, General Wanquan stressed the need for efforts to boost defence cooperation with Iran through full implementation of the previous military agreements between Tehran and Beijing.

He also expressed the hope that his visit to Iran and the new agreement would usher in closer military and defence relations.

Tehran and Beijing have close diplomatic, economic, trade and energy ties, and in recent years have developed their military relations as well.

In May 2014, the Iranian defence minister paid an official visit to China to negotiate mutual visits and personnel training cooperation between the two countries.

Official Highlights Iran’s Significant Progress in Export of Pharmaceuticals

According to a report by the Official Website of Iranian Government, Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari highlighted the great advancements of Iranian companies in exporting their pharmaceuticals.

Sattari referred to the facilities provided by the government for knowledge-based companies, and stressed that $2.7bn has been allocated by the government to the creation of new markets for such companies working in the field of medicine.

“We hope a lion’s share of such marketing activities will be dedicated to knowledge-based companies working in the field of health,” he went on to say.

Supermoon 2016: Once in a Lifetime Sight to Be Brightest in Almost 70 Years Tonight

Supermoon

Millions of star gazers will enjoy the moon at its biggest and brightest in almost 70 years tonight.

The so-called ‘supermoon’ means the planet will be closer to Earth than it has been since 1948.

And the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ sight makes it appear 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than normal.

It will be at its biggest in living memory, and offer brilliant photo opportunities, according to experts.

Dr Marek Kukula, Public Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said, “If a full moon happens to occur when the moon is also at its closest point then it will look slightly larger and brighter than usual, popularly known as a ‘supermoon’.

Supermoon“The differences in apparent size and brightness amount to few per cent but they can enhance the already beautiful sight of the full moon, making a supermoon worth looking up for.”

A winter supermoon is super-sized, because the Earth is closest to the sun in December each year, with gravity pulling it closer, as reported by Mirror.

The best time to view is when it is low on the horizon as an illusion occurs which makes it look unnaturally larger.

It will be at its best around 8.09 pm GMT tonight, at a distance of 217,000 miles (350,000 km) from Earth, and it is best to avoid light pollution, such as street lights, when viewing it.

JCPOA Endorsed by UNSC, Not to Change: EU’s Mogherini

Mogherini

“And on Iran, let me tell you very clearly that this is not a bilateral agreement, it is a multilateral agreement, endorsed by the UN Security Council resolution. So it is in our European interest, but also in the UN interest and duty to guarantee that the agreement is implemented in full. For the whole duration of the agreement, which is 10 years,” Mogherini said on Sunday evening at an informal meeting of the European Union’s foreign ministers in Brussels, the official website of the EU reported on Monday.

The ministers discussed a wide range of issue, including the change of US foreign policy under President-elect Donald Trump.

“I have personally a specific role to guarantee that this (the JCPOA) is done by all sides, and for sure this is in European interest. So we will take that as one of the keys elements that will not change,” she added.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), reached the comprehensive nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in July 2015 and it was implemented in January 2016.

In a speech to the pro-Israeli lobby group AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) in March, Trump declared that his “number-one priority” would be to “dismantle the disastrous deal with Iran.”

After Trump’s winning the election, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran expects the new US administration respect the nuclear deal.

ISIS Is Teaching Its Elements How to Infiltrate into Europe

Refugees

The report published in Germany’s Die Welt daily cited sources in Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) as saying that the militants receive specific infiltration training focused on presenting a “classical” refugee persona to authorities and fellow refugees.

Former reports had noted that Takfiri terrorists were attempting to blend in with refugees to enter EU countries, but this is the first time reports have surfaced that they are specifically trained to do so.

“Their behavior is trained to be recognized as a refugee in the case of interrogation by police officers or asylum seeker,” said the sources.

The report notes that the militants are receiving training similar to that of special forces such as the use of credible disguises and proper behavior during interrogation and capture.

In July, Germany’s secret service warned that active terrorists or at least ISIS sympathizers may be among refugees entering the country.

The European Union has been dealing with an excessive influx of refugees in recent years, driven by war, famine, poverty and persecution. The crisis has largely divided the continent over how to deal with the situation.

Thousands of ISIS Militants to Return to Europe

Meanwhile, Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon (seen below) has warned that 3,000 and 5,000 surviving Europeans remain among ISIS’s dwindling ranks, many of whom may flee back to their countries of origin.

ISIS Is Teaching Its Elements How to Infiltrate into Europe

“ISIS is under pressure in Mosul and Raqqah. Belgian fighters are helping defend the strongholds, but we must be aware that there are not only 200 of our countrymen there, but between 3,000 and 5,000 Europeans,” he said.

After months of preparation, Iraqi army soldiers, backed by pro-government fighters from Popular Mobilization Units and Kurdish Peshmerga forces, launched an operation on October 17 to retake the strategic city of Mosul from the ISIS terrorists.

On November 6, the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they had started operations to capture the ISIS de facto capital Raqqah with the cooperation of the US-led coalition.

Jambon noted that intelligence agencies are monitoring the situation and exchanging information but must wait and see how many of the terrorists actually return.

“117 ISIS recruits have returned to Belgium. About half are in prison, the others under surveillance. There are also several dozen who made failed attempts to get to Syria, and we are observing them,” he added.

US to Collapse in 20 Years: Iran’s Basij Commander

US

“According to the analysis made by the behind-the-stage and shadow decision-makers of the establishment in the US, the United States will collapse in 2035 and I think that it is an optimistic analysis as this will take place much earlier,” Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi told Fars on Sunday.

naghdiHe referred to the election of Trump as the new US president, and said, “The person that has ascended to power displays the reality of the US.”

Noting that Barack Obama showed the face of the US in disguise, Naqdi said that Trump is the real face of the US and he may accelerate the USA’s collapse.

Meanwhile, a political historian and professor who predicted that Donald Trump would win the US presidency said he has a new bet and predicted Trump will be impeached.

“I’m going to make another prediction,” Allan Lichtman told US media, while adding that the new prediction is a personal view and is not based on a system.

“This one is not based on a system; it’s just my gut. They don’t want Trump as president, because they can’t control him. He’s unpredictable. They’d love to have Pence, an absolutely down-the-line, conservative, controllable Republican. And I’m quite certain Trump will give someone grounds for impeachment, either by doing something that endangers national security or because it helps his pocketbook.”

Lichtman isn’t the first to predict that Trump could be impeached. University of Utah Law Professor Christopher Lewis Peterson wrote a 23-page article explaining the legal reasons Congress should impeach Trump.

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore also told MSNBC reporters he predicts Trump will either be impeached or resign before his term is over.

To date, no US President has been removed from office by impeachment and conviction. Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached but acquitted by the Senate, and Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

 US

Protests have erupted in cities across the US after Trump was declared the winner of the nation’s presidential election.

Anti-Trump protests turned into riots in several US cities and hostile reaction spreading online, with liberal activist groups fuelling the unrest.

Rallies with tens of thousands reportedly taking part have been reported in at least 16 cities, about half of those in California, and the unrest has centred mainly in electoral areas that went to Clinton in the election. Among the cities with protests and riots have been New York, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Austin, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia.

The protests have often turned violent with vandalism, fires, attacks on police and arrests. Black Lives Matter signs and chants were also among the protests, along with other liberal and socialist groups.

In some cases, police had to move in formation on protesters as situations became violent.

The American flag was burned as well.

ISIS Elements Only Allowed to Watch Al Jazeera TV

ISIS

According to a report by Al Alam News Network, as translated by IFP, Ahmad al-Jabouri, a Member of Parliament from Nineveh Province, said that ISIS pays a lot of attention to media, and some satellite channels have voiced their support for the terrorist group.

He told Al Sumaria News that the ISIS leaders have just allowed the residents of Mosul to watch Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV.

The TV channel is still supporting the Takfiri [extremist] terrorist group, he added.

Iran, Russia Cooperating on Middle East Issues: Larijani

Ali Larijani-Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko

“Considering the developments that have taken place on the international scene, we [Iran] are cooperating with Russia in the region,” Larijani said in a joint press conference with Russia’s Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko in Tehran on Sunday following an earlier meeting.

He added that Iran and Russia have taken steps over recent years to broaden relations and said Matvienko’s current visit to Tehran would play a key role in developing trade, political, parliamentary and security cooperation between the two sides.

He noted that he had held “very useful and constructive” talks with the top Russian parliamentarian, adding that the two sides offered good proposals on regional and international issues.

The Iranian parliament speaker said the two sides also discussed ways to increase cooperation in railway transportation and energy.

‘Good Tehran-Moscow Cooperation in Terror Fight’

Russia’s Federation Council chairperson, for her part, said Tehran and Moscow have good cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and expressed hope the two sides would further work together in this regard.

Matvienko added that Iran and Russia have similar or close stances on many regional and international issues.

She said the implementation of the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in July 2015, has created favorable grounds for Tehran-Moscow cooperation.

Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, Matvienko arrived in Tehran on Sunday for an official two-day visit to hold key talks with senior Iranian officials. She also plans to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Matvienko’s visit to Tehran comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Iran on November 23, 2015 and held separate meetings with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Rouhani. Putin also participated in the third summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran.
