Iran’s Leader Pardons, Eases Sentences of over 1,200 Iranian Prisoners

Leader

According to a report by IFP, the clemency was granted by Ayatollah Khamenei at the request of the country’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on the occasion of birthday anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his grandson Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (AS).

Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.

The clemency, however, does not apply to certain types of convicts, including those who have been sentenced for their role in armed struggle against the country, armed or organized drug trafficking, armed robbery, arms smuggling, abduction, bribery and embezzlement.

Iran, Russia to Establish Joint Islamic Bank

Russia-Iran

The announcement was made by Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak who visited Tehran earlier this week for talks on expansion of mutual cooperation in a variety of areas.

“The creation of a Russian-Iranian Islamic bank was discussed. Our banks are exploring the mechanism, the related decision has not been made yet,” Novak was quoted by the media as saying at a bilateral meeting held in Tehran.

No timeframe or potential size was given for the proposed bank, which would be the first such institution operating in the two countries, Reuters wrote in a report on the move.

State-linked Russian lenders Vnesheconombank, Sberbank and Tatfondbank have been developing Islamic financial products of their own over the past year, it added.

Iran is keen to diversify funding options for its companies.

At present, most financing in Iran is sourced from domestic lenders with only a small portion sourced from foreign sources and the debt capital markets.

Other reports by Iran’s domestic media emphasized that Tehran and Moscow were moving close to a scheme to ditch the dollar and trade in their own local currencies.

Iran’s Persian-language newspaper Aftab-e Yazd quoted Deputy Director of International Cooperation and Public Communications Department of the Russian Central Bank Andrey Melnikov as saying that Iran and Russia were preparing for on trade in national currencies at the Moscow Exchange.

“There are issues requiring further consideration. There is no doubt [that] it is positive that [Russian and Iranian] central banks are reviewing them. This and the present project on currency pair trading of the [Russian] ruble and [Iranian] rial will significantly increase the [volumes of] using the national currencies for mutual settlement in case there is demand for these currencies,” Melnikov was quoted as saying in a report that was also carried by Sputnik news agencies.

Killing Innocent People Has Nothing to Do with Prophet Muhammad’s Teachings: Iran’s President

rohani

According to a report by IFP, speaking at the 30th edition of International Muslim Unity Conference held on Thursday in Tehran, President Rouhani said the bloodshed in Middle East has nothing to do with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who was ‘the most influential man in the history of mankind.’

Here are highlights of his remarks:

– Muhammad (PBUH), the Prophet of Islam, was the most influential man in the history of mankind.

– Prophet Muhammad was the messenger of ethics and taught Muslims to respect all divine religions. He recommended Muslims to be united and have a peaceful coexistence with followers of other religions.

– Islam is a religion that complemented its predecessors. It has ordered us to join hands with all divine religions.

– Shiites and Sunnis have maintained their independence throughout the history by staying united against colonialism and division.

– Shiite and Sunni Muslims are brothers in faith and following of the Qur’an and the traditions of the great prophet of Islam.

– Shiite crescent or Sunni triangle, both are wrong. It is not Shiite or Sunni which are squared up against each other. It is rather the American Islam standing against the genuine Muhammadan Islam.

– It is not possible to kill innocent people and claim to be following the prophet of Islam.

– The big plot now is to attract the minds of young Muslims to deviant schools of thought.

– We will see one day that all Muslim countries will unite against the Zionist regime of Israel.

– Israel and regional murderers aim to frustrate Muslims, but they will soon be disappointed themselves.

The 30th edition of Islamic Unity Conference was kicked off on Thursday by President Rouhani in Tehran with religious thinkers and elites from more than 50 countries across the world attending the three-day event.

Those Who Bought Terrorists’ Oil Are Complicit in Their Crimes: Iran President

Rouhani

According to a report by IFP, President Hassan Rouhani said in an address to ‘Muslim Unity Conference’ in Tehran that “those who trained terrorists and purchased the oil the terrorists had stolen, and those who sold the cultural heritage of devastated museums in the West are responsible for the recent crimes.”

“If major world powers think they can stabilize their interests in the region by helping the terrorists, they are wrong. […] Western powers and then their regional allies are the ones to blame for destruction of Aleppo and Mosul and beheading of Muslim youths,” he added.

Islamic Unity Conference Kicks Off in Iran

Islamic Unity Conference

According to a report by IFP, this year’s conference is being held with the motto of “Unity, Necessity of Countering Takfiri [extremist] Movements”.

The unity event this year is centred on the ways of countering Takfiri groups for boosting unity among Muslims and braving the problems the Muslim world is mired in.

The role of Takfiri currents in fomenting discord among Muslims, the need for countering Takfiri currents in order to realize Islamic unity, the threat Takfiri currents pose to keeping alive the issue of Palestine, and the Zionist regime of Israel’s use of Takfiri currents are among the topics discussed at the three-day event.

Attended by prominent members and thinkers from Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Iraq, Lebanon, Thailand, UK, Australia, China, etc., the event provides the grounds for its attendees to exchange their views for sorting out the standing setbacks Muslim nations are mired in.

Over 300 domestic and foreign guests, a number of clerics from different countries and 220 prominent figures from across the Islamic world have participated in the international Islamic event.

The three-day International Islamic Unity Conference is to review problems faced by the Islamic Society (Ummah) and find appropriate solutions to address such issues.

The 30th Islamic Unity Conference will last until December 17 and is to discuss the practical roadmaps for braving the problems and setback Muslims are wrestling with, ABNA reported.

Islamic unity conference is mounted so as to promote unity of the Islamic society which has been a major axis in the thoughts of many leading Muslim intellectuals worldwide.

The World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought annually holds the international conference on the occasion of birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar is believed by Shiite Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

Iran’s Speaker Congratulates Muslim Counterparts on Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

Larijani

According to a report by IFP, Larijani said in his congratulatory message, “Currently, the shadows of division and Takfirism [extremism] have incurred painful and deep wounds on the body of Islamic society […].”

“Under such circumstances, I deeply believe that salvation can only be achieved by following the pure and transcendental teachings of Islam, the tradition of Prophet Muhammad, and the Holy Quran,” he added in his message to his Muslim counterparts, which was published by ICANA in Farsi.

Iranian Speaker Urges Palestine’s Backing for Syria

“Syria has been always the strategic depth and one of the pillars of support for the axis of resistance against the Quds occupying regime (Israel), and no Palestinian should lose such strategic opportunity (for reinforcing the resistance) with incorrect assessment,” Larijani said at a meeting with Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Abdullah Shalah in Tehran on Wednesday.

Deploring the policy that certain Palestinians adopted on the crisis in Syria, the Iranian speaker slammed attempts to weaken Syria as a “strategic mistake”, warning that any harm to Palestine-Syria ties will only benefit the Zionist regime of Israel.

The Palestinian groups that turned against Syria and the axis of resistance have gained nothing, but have only served Israel’s interests, Larijani noted.

He further reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to supporting Palestine, stressing that the issue should not slip into oblivion.

For his part, Abdullah hailed Iran as the only Islamic country that has never shifted its stance on Syria and has kept supporting the Palestinian nation’s interests.

Denouncing Israel’s plots to disintegrate Muslim states, including Syria and Iraq, the Palestinian official said regional crises have been imposed from outside the region.

In his visit to Iran, Abdullah had a meeting on Tuesday with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who underlined that restoration of Palestinians’ rights should be the top issue on agenda of Middle Eastern and Muslim countries.

Iranian FM Discusses Aleppo Situation with Russian, Turkish Counterparts

zarif

Zarif, in separate telephone conversations with Lavrov and Cavusoglu, discussed the issues of ceasefire and humanitarian aid in Aleppo, as well as the latest developments across the Arab country.

The battle of Aleppo ended on Tuesday, as Takfiri militants and the Syrian government agreed to a ceasefire that would ensure opposition fighters’ exit from the city.

After more than four years of clashes and months of siege, the fight for Syria’s once largest city came to an end in what UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon called “a total uncompromising military victory” by government forces.

The Iranian foreign minister and his Russian opposite number also exchanged views on the implementation of last year’s nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers as well as the United States’ lack of commitment to the international agreement.

Earlier this month, the US Senate voted 99-0 to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for another decade.

The bill was passed by the House of Representatives nearly unanimously in November, and congressional aides said they expected Obama would sign it.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has warned that implementation of ISA will constitute a “clear and flagrant violation of the JCPOA” and draw a “very harsh reaction” from Tehran.

Iran’s President Lauds Aleppo Liberation, Urges Support for Anti-Terror Campaign

In a telephone conversation with Assad on Wednesday, Rouhani said Aleppo’s liberation was an important step towards Syria’s ultimate victory over terrorism in the Arab country.

Syrian forces have almost completed the liberation of Aleppo, with militants having surrendered most of their remaining territory. Hundreds of foreign-backed militants have laid down arms in Aleppo in the past 24 hours. Almost 6,000 civilians have also left militant-held districts of the northwestern Syrian city over the past day.

Rouhani reaffirmed Iran’s support for Syria’s anti-terror battle and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will stand by the Syrian government and nation until terrorists are fully forced out of the country.”

“We consider it our duty to support the flag-bearers of the fight against Takfiri terrorism, who are trying to purge their homeland of aggressors,” Rouhani said, describing the victory in Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, as a great achievement by “the united Syrian nation” against the terrorists and their sponsors.

He also expressed Iran’s readiness to send more humanitarian aid to Syria, including the city of Aleppo, and said it was highly urgent to rush to the help of the “oppressed Syrians.”

“Today marks a great test for all countries advocating human rights. The international community’s assistance to displaced Syrians and those affected by the war is a priority for all after Aleppo’s liberation,” he said.

The Syrian president, for his part, commended Iran’s unwavering support for his country and said Syrians will not forget the Iranian nation and government, who stood by Syria during its hardest times.
