Buses Arrive at Besieged Syrian Villages despite Militants’ Attacks

Bus- Attack

Syrian state media, which broadcast footage of burning green buses, said “armed terrorists” attacked five buses and burned and destroyed them.

Lebanon’s al-Manar television said later on Sunday that some buses and Red Crescent vehicles had reached the entrance to the besieged Syrian villages of Foua and Kefraya, which are besieged by foreign-backed militants.

According to a report by IFP, a Syrian government official, who was part of the evacuations negotiating team, said, “It was agreed to resume evacuations from east Aleppo in parallel with the evacuation of (medical) cases from Foua and Kefraya and some cases from Zabadani and Madaya.”

The Syrian army is demanding people to be allowed to leave the two villages in exchange for allowing evacuations of rebels and terrorists from east Aleppo, Reuters reported.

Iran-Greece Ties on the Right Track: FM Zarif

n3342646-5520949

In a Sunday meeting with Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece George Katrougalos in Tehran, Zarif expressed satisfaction with the existing trend of relations between Tehran and Athens, saying they are on the “right path”.

He added, “There is goodwill as well as political resolve between the two sides to further expand their ties in all political and economic areas.”

Katrougalos, for his part, stressed the important role of the Islamic Republic in the region and world, expressing his country’s resolve to cement ties with Iran.

Iran, Greece Share Views on Many Issues: Diplomat

Katrougalos also met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi. During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat highlighted the abundant opportunities for cooperation with Greece, saying the two countries have common stances on a lot of issues.

Takht Ravanchi hailed the friendly relations between Iran and Greece, pointing to the serious determination for the expansion of political and economic relations.

Highlighting the two countries’ shared views on many subjects, he said Tehran-Athens bilateral ties are growing in accordance with a road map the two countries have already signed.

He noted that energy, shipping, medicine and tourism are among grounds for cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, the Greek diplomat said the European country is ready for various procedures for boosting trade interaction with Iran, Tasnim reported.

Iran and Greece signed a road map to closer ties in February, during Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ official visit to Tehran with a big economic delegation.

While in Tehran, Tsipras signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including a document for boosting political consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries, an agreement to abolish visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports and a roadmap agreement to develop Tehran-Athens cooperation.

Iranian First VP’s Turkey Visit Postponed Due to Busy Schedule

US Push for Economic Collapse of Iran Has Gone Nowhere: VP

Earlier media reports said that the Iranian vice president was scheduled to travel to Ankara Monday. Jahangiri was to meet Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim for talks on a range of issues, including the crisis in Syria.

Qassemi said that the Turkish authorities have been informed about the development, adding that the visit was postponed to a proper time in the future.

On Friday, Jahangiri and Turkish Prime Minister Yildirim had exchanged views about various issues, ranging from Tehran-Ankara relations to the latest developments in the Middle East region, particularly in Syria.

In a telephone conversation, Jahangiri offered his condolences to the Turkish people and government over victims in a recent terrorist attack in Istanbul that led to the killing and injuring of dozens of people.

“Peace, stability and security of Turkey is highly important to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, calling for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Jahangiri further pointed to the appalling conditions of Syrian civilians in various cities, including Aleppo, and said unfortunately, civilians are being killed and injured in various cities of the Arab country.

Iran Finalizes Deal to Buy 100 Airbus Planes

f43c762f-48d5-472d-baa9-396ec1af60c7

Iran Air will receive seven or eight planes from Airbus in 2017, Farhad Parvaresh, the managing director of the airline told reporters on Sunday.

He said a delegation of Airbus representatives have been in Tehran since last week to sign the important deal on the purchase of 100 planes after closely examining all aspects of the agreement.

Despite earlier reports that the nominal value of the agreement for the purchase of 118 Airbus planes initially stood at around 25 billion dollars,he added, the agreement would not be worth more than 10 billion dollars considering the fact that A380s have been dropped from the contract.

Parvaresh further pointed to an agreement signed between Iran Air and US aviation giant, Boeing, on December 11 to purchase 80 planes and said Iran would receive the first Boeing plane in April 2018.

The agreement envisages the purchase of 50 twinjet narrow-body Boeing 737 planes and 30 long-range wide-body 777 aircraft at a total cost of 16.6 billion dollars.

The deal with Boeing has been the first major commercial agreement between Iran and the US in decades.

Iran had signed basic agreements with Boeing and Airbus to purchase planes earlier this year after the US removed a ban on selling Iran passenger aircraft and spare parts following the 2015 nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of countries.

The deal with Airbus has already received the go-ahead from the US Treasury Department.

The Department’s seal for Iran-Airbus agreement was necessary given that at least 10 percent of Airbus’ components are made in the US, which has imposed a series of economic sanctions against Iran for years.

The US Treasury Department had also given the green light to Boeing for selling planes to Iran.

Aleppo Liberation Shows West Support for Terror Failing: Shamkhani

cca382ff-bd9e-4c40-b226-2beb749572a0

In a meeting with Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, in Tehran on Sunday, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said the Syrian army made valuable achievements by liberating the northwestern city from militants, adding that the gains were the outcome of initiatives by Iran, Russia, Syria and the resistance front.

The liberation of Aleppo once again exposed to judgment of the world public opinion the policies of Western countries and their regional allies in creating and sponsoring terrorism and their full political, media and military support for defeated terrorist and Takfiri groups, he added.

The SNSC secretary stressed the importance of establishing a permanent ceasefire in Aleppo and driving out terrorists from the city.

He also hailed the cooperation among Iran, Russia and Syria in the fight against terrorists and their sponsors.

“Given the increasing political and military complications of the Syria crisis and the necessity of adopting common strategies to manage the conditions faced, the expansion of consultations among the three countries’ officials at different levels is inevitable,” Shamkhani said.

Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, was fully liberated this week, less than a month after the Syrian army started to drive foreign-backed militants out of their stronghold in the eastern side of the strategic city.

Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Reconciliation in Syria said in a statement on Friday that the Syrian military had wrested full control of eastern Aleppo, scoring a major victory against terrorists in the strategic city.

Tehran and Moscow support the elected Syrian government and have been assisting Damascus in its fight against terrorism.

Russia has been carrying out airstrikes on positions of Daesh and other terrorist groups in Syria since late September 2015, while Iran has been providing military advisory assistance to the Arab country.

US, Israel failed to divide Syria: Leader’s aide

Meanwhile, a senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that the United States and Israeli regime have failed to implement their plots in Syria and partition the Arab country.

Aleppo Liberation Shows West Support for Terror Failing: Shamkhani

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with Lavrentiev, Ali Akbar Velayati, the Leader’s advisor on international affairs, said the US, the Israeli regime and their allies in the region have been seeking to oust Syria’s legitimate government of President Bashar al-Assad and partition the Arab country to serve the Zionists’ interests in the region.

However, the Syrian people and government managed to protect their country through resistance in cooperation with Iran, Hezbollah and the resistance front, he added.

The senior Iranian official also pointed to strategic and developing relations between Tehran and Moscow and said the two sides are expanding their ties in different political, economic and defense areas.

Iran and Russia are cooperating with each other on regional and international developments, particularly the very sensitive Syrian issue, Velayati pointed out.

Russian Plane Carrying Aerospace Forces Crash-Lands in Siberia with 39 on Board

Il-18

“As a result of the accident, all passengers and crew members are alive. Sixteen individuals sustained severe injuries. Search-and-rescue helicopters have evacuated 23 people to regional health centers of Tiksi [settlement],” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The plane had 39 individuals on board. Sources earlier said four or five people were likely to have survived.

“According to preliminary information, the plane broke into three, it [the crash] was not followed by fire outbreak,” a source in the law enforcement said earlier.

Among the 39 people on board, 32 were passengers and seven were crew members. The source said a crew error as well as adverse weather conditions could have caused the crash.

The crash site was located and three Mi-8 helicopters of the Russian Emergencies Ministry were sent to it, Sputnik reported.

The plane reportedly belonged to the Russian Aerospace Forces and carried officers.

“The plane made an emergency landing at 4:45, 30 kilometres (18 miles) away from Tiksi. The plane had been conducting a planned flight from the Kansk airbase,” the Defense Ministry added.

The ministry sent a special commission to investigate the accident.

Without Iran, Any Secret Deal on Syria Is Doomed to Failure

“Any secret political or field agreement in Syria is doomed to failure without Iran’s participation,” Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), warned in a post on his Twitter account.
According to a report by IFP, his warning came as Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is due to hold a trilateral meeting with his Russian and Turkish counterparts in Moscow on Tuesday to discuss the issue of Syria.

German Police Arrest Suspect Who Kicked Woman down Subway Stairs

According to a report covered by YJC, the video of the senseless act of violence went viral and led to a massive outcry for the suspect’s arrest.

The 27-year-old man wanted for a brutal attack on a woman in a subway station was arrested by German police on Saturday, authorities said, as reported by DW.

The suspect, whose name was not given, was detained at Berlin’s long-distance bus station while he was still seated on a bus, Berlin police said in a statement posted on Twitter.

JCPOA Breach Adds to International Mistrust of US: Iran’s President

139509281421351709482224

“The policy the US has adopted on Iran will reduce global trust in the US government,” President Rouhani said at a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Tehran on Sunday.

Describing ISA as a violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), Rouhani said Iran would live up to its commitments under the deal as long as the other parties do so.

He also called on the IAEA to fulfill its duties to help the JCPOA survive. “The agency’s reports should be technical and impartial, and we expect the agency to carry out its duties in the fields of technical cooperation (with Iran), acquisition of peaceful nuclear technology and nuclear trade.”

President Rouhani then expressed the hope for close technical cooperation with the IAEA on development of nuclear propulsion systems for maritime transportation.

For his part, Amano underscored that Iran has fully honored its commitments to the JCPOA since the deal took effect in January.

The Japanese head of the UN nuclear agency also gave an assurance that the IAEA will remain an impartial agency and deal only with technical issues.

Heading a delegation, Amano arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning for a series of high-profile meetings for talks on the process of JCPOA implementation.

It is Amano’s second trip to Iran in 2016. He once visited Tehran in January, days after the JCPOA took effect.

The IAEA is responsible for monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities as per the nuclear deal and should also help the country develop its nuclear energy program.
