Turning Iranophobia into Iranophilia

en-woman-tourism-iran

The Iran daily has, in an article, written about several foreign tourists’ experience of visiting Iran and how they see the country, its culture, people and traditions.

Hassan Rouhani’s assuming office as Iran’s president three years ago paved the way for foreign tourists to set off on an adventurous journey to a country unknown to them. Even some of them thought they might never return from their trip. However, many of them after leaving Iran expressed their protest on social media against the wrong picture painted of Iran by foreign media, and termed Iran the “land of peace.” They replaced the word “Iranophobia” with “Iranophilia,” “Iran tourism” and “Iranology” on Western social media networks.

A Cheerful and Scenic Country

Olena is a young Ukrainian girl who has, since childhood, cherished the dream of travelling around the world, and has visited more than 80 countries.

“My recent trip to Iran opened my eyes,” she writes.

“An unbelievable culture, picturesque scenery and truly wonderful people who have, unfortunately, got trapped in a sea of cliché ideas,” she adds.

“While touring the [historical] Fin Garden in [the city of] Kashan, I saw lovely kids. They were jubilant, curious, polite, energetic, friendly and open – just like Iran itself. To me, they are signs of a brighter future for the country,” she writes.

The World’s Warmest People

Turning Iranophobia into Iranophilia35-year-old German author Stefan Evert decided to return to Iran after a two-week tour of the country in order to write a book about Iran and prove to the people across the globe that Iranians are the most hospitable people in the world.

“Undoubtedly, Iranians are the kindest and most hospitable people on earth,” he writes.

It was his first post on his Facebook page after returning from his first visit to Iran in March 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and one in psychology from a German university and a Master’s in journalism from the University of Brisbane in Australia.

After Stefan landed in Tehran, he chose Kish Island as his first destination before going to visit Qeshm Island. Afterwards, he visited several cities and provinces, including Kordestan, Bushehr, Yazd, Kerman, Qom, Mashhad, Isfahan, and Shiraz.

“A journey to the land of the most hospitable people in the world,” he writes at the beginning of his book.
“I have travelled to more than 50 countries and I believe in this statement [that I said about Iran],” he adds.

He stayed in Iran for 20 days to write his book, hoping to return to Iran one day.

A Very Safe Country

Kim, an author, blogger and adventurous traveller who had come to Iran with his friend, described Iran as a safe country in an article published by The Huffington Post. Kim says he had never travelled to a country where reality was much different from his presuppositions.

According to Kim, Iranian people are worried about female foreign tourists. He describes Iran as a very safe country. He believes the most important challenge for a female tourist is sexual harassment. But, according to him, this was not a bigger issue in Iran than in other countries he had visited. He says Iranian men are very polite and reliable and they keep their distance.

Lunch with Taste of Kindness

American volleyball coach John Speraw recounted his experience of visiting Iran after returning to his country. In a message to his fellow countrymen, he said Iranians were very hospitable and wanted tourists to have a really good time there. He said he really enjoyed his visit. Speraw said he had a day-long stay in Tehran where he visited the landmark Milad Tower and had lunch there high above the ground.

In Iran, he said, the relationship between people is not affected by relations among governments. He said Iranian people are wonderful and treat tourists kindly.

Of course, he said, “we also treated them in the same way because America, too, is a wonderful country with wonderful people.”

Tourist in Distress Loves Iran

Tourist Christine Ivan, along with her French husband and German children, was in Iran where her papers were stolen by a motorcyclist. Christine came to the Iran newspaper’s office and recounted her ordeal. His story went viral in the society and police and people began to help her. Her family’s belongings had been stolen several times in different parts of the world before, but never ever had the people of those countries come forward to apologise to her for the theft. It was not easy for her to digest Iranians’ behaviour. Iranian people sympathized with her on social media. After that, she said she loved the people of Iran, especially the residents of the city of Karaj. Christine said she was surprised by the attention that Iranians paid to her problem. She said she was considering travelling to Iran again in the future. After leaving Iran, she launched a campaign in European countries under the motto “Iran is great” in order to better introduce Iran.

Jack Straw in Iran

Turning Iranophobia into IranophiliaFormer British foreign secretary Jack Straw has also written about his three-day trip in the visitor’s books of the Moshir Hotel and the Namir Garden in the Iranian city of Taft. Straw says he and his wife plus his friends spent a spectacular night in the Namir Garden. He said they were mesmerised by the nice reconstruction work there. He said the food they had there was the best they had ever had in Iran. He said they liked Yazd and enjoyed their stay in the Mashir-ul-Mamalek Hotel there. He noted that the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. He said the food was good and the hotel was beautiful, and they enjoyed the tranquil garden there.

Guardians of Love

A female Singaporean university student who had graduated in the History of the Middle East and Central Asia from an American university had come to Iran to spend a Persian Language course. In an article published in a Malayan newspaper, she described her experience of staying in Iran. She describes Iranian people as the guardians of love. In a web posting on her blog, she says the word “kind” in Farsi – Mehrban – literally means the “guardian of love.”

Enemies Using Economic Pressure to Achieve Goals: Iran Leader

“To succeed in realizing their objectives against Iran, the Iranians and the Islamic Republic, the enemies of the Islamic Republic are looking for economic strategies and in better words, seek to deal economic blows to the Iranian nation,” the Leader said in an address to a huge gathering of pilgrims in the holy Iranian city of Mashhad on Tuesday on the first day of the Persian New Year.

Ayatollah Khamenei described the new Persian calendar year as “important” for the country, both in terms of the need for more economic mobility and the upcoming presidential and city councils elections.

He said the Iranians must also show their national unity in the New Year and prove their commitment to the Islamic establishment and the revolution, and flaunt their allegiance to the enemies.

‘Economic woes unrelated to Islamic foundations’

The Leader said the enemy seeks to attribute the existing economic issues to Islam and blame the Islamic foundations of the country for the economic woes.

“The enemy’s goal is to dismay and disillusion the Iranian nation with the Islamic establishment through economic pressure and drive a wedge between the people and the Islamic establishment,” the Leader stated, emphasizing, however, that the enemy has not been and would never be able to achieve its objectives.

Iran Leader in khorasan

“The enemy in its widespread propaganda is making efforts to attribute the country’s livelihood and economic shortcomings to the Islamic establishment and the Islamic Republic of Iran and this is the enemy’s plot,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“The enemies want to pretend that the Islamic establishment has not been and will never be able to solve the economic and major woes of the Iranian nation…This claim stems from their grudge and hatred against the Islamic establishment and this claim is contrary to the truth,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei acknowledged the existence of weaknesses in the country, adding, however, that these shortcomings stem from management flaws.

The Islamic establishment and the Islamic Republic have offered “prominent and remarkable” services to Iran and the Iranians, the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the services are incomparable to those provided in the era before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Leader said the population of the country has grown two-fold since the Revolution, but the services provided, including in infrastructure, have increased by “a very eye-catching” and much greater rate.

Figures indicating Iran’s progress in the military and economy are very remarkable, Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding that the number of university students, as one example, has increased 25 times the pre-revolution figures.

There has been a six-fold increase in the length of roads built in the country, while electricity generation has grown 14 times and non-oil exports have risen 57-fold, the Leader said.

‘Elections very important for Iran’

Elsewhere, Ayatollah Khamenei described as “very important” the issue of elections in the Islamic Republic, whether it be the presidential, parliamentary or city council polls.

“Elections are one of the two pillars of religious democracy,” the Leader said, adding, “We boast to the world courtesy of our elections and the enemies ignore our elections in order to deal a blow to the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said a massive turnout in the elections is a top priority, adding, “The Iranian nation must shine in the elections.”

He also said the law must be observed to the letter in the elections. “Whatever the result of the elections by the nation, it is credible and lawful.”

The Leader said he would not interfere in the elections and has never recommended any candidate in any polls but would take action if anyone seeks to stand against the vote of the people and disrupt the elections.

“If anyone seeks to defy the result of the nation’s vote, I will stand against them,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Iran Leader in Razavi

In his televised message to the nation on Monday on the occasion of the New Year, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the importance of domestic production and employment, especially for Iranian youths.

“These are the main and key sectors. If we manage to focus on these two sectors and plan and categorize our affairs on this basis, I believe that the task will move forward to a great extent and impressive and tangible achievements will be made,” the Leader said.

The Leader designated the new Iranian calendar year of 1396 as the “Year of Resistance Economy: Production and Employment.”

Leader Names New Year as Year of “Economy of Resistance: Production, Employment”

Here is the full text of the message issued on March 20, 2017 by Imam Khamenei on the occasion of Nowruz.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O Conqueror of hearts and sight

O Planner of night and day

O Transformer of power and circumstances

Change our condition to the best of conditions!

Allah, send Your greetings to Fatima, to her father, her husband and her children

I would like to congratulate all you dear compatriots on the auspicious birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatima Zahra – Siddiqat al-Kubra (God’s greetings be upon her) – and on the Eid of Nowruz. I wish a happy Eid for you dear compatriots, for the great people of Iran, for the dear youth and for people from various social backgrounds. In particular, I would like to congratulate the dear families of the martyrs, the disabled war veterans and also all those nations which are familiar with the Nowruz Eid and which celebrate it.

I thank Allah the Exalted for giving me the opportunity to once more congratulate you dear people of Iran on the Eid of Nowruz. I hope that a very good, auspicious and blessed year – accompanied by security and welfare – will be waiting for the people of Iran and that by Allah’s favor, the year 1396 will be a happy year for all the people of Iran and for Muslims throughout the world.

I hope that during the year that has just begun at this moment, all Iranian families and all dear Iranians will benefit from divine kindness, mercy and blessings.

If we want to evaluate the year that has passed – the year 1395 – it included happy and sad events, bitter and sweet events, just like all other years. What I mean is bitter and sweet events as they relate to the people, not personal matters.

We had sweet events in the previous year. We experienced sweet events related to national dignity, national security, youthful determination among the people of Iran and all-inclusive religious moves all over the country. We also experienced bitter events which were mainly related to economic and social matters. I will expand on this later on.

The dignity of Iran and our dear people was visible throughout the year 1395. It was visible from the beginning to the end of the year. Our enemies across the world acknowledged the power and greatness of the people of Iran. The identity of the people of Iran showed itself during all the various events that took place in this year.

With one disrespectful act committed by the American president against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the people responded on the 22nd of Bahman in an enthusiastic, passionate and courageous manner. On Quds Day too, in the auspicious month of Ramadan, the great gathering of the people showed the identity and the goals of this country to all the people around the world.

The security of the country in this turbulent regional and international environment was a very important and great factor for the people of Iran. Today, our neighboring countries – countries located to the east, southeast and northwest of our country – are suffering from insecurity. The region is suffering from insecurity, but the people of Iran thankfully experienced enduring security throughout the year.

My reference to “youthful determination” originates from witnessing and being aware of the activities of thousands of young groups throughout the country. These youth are busy attending to their enthusiastic activities in the fields of science, culture, sports and production. They are presenting new achievements and innovations and they are providing provisions for the future of the country.

And when I referred to “religious moves”, I meant the enthusiastic, warm and attractive religious meetings that existed throughout the year. These meetings were attended on the subject of the Imams (greetings be upon them), important religious matters, itikaf, various prayers, the month of Ramadan, the Arbaeen rally, important occasions related to Ashura and the ten-day Muharram events. These were the positive and happy points for our country and our people.

And the bitter and difficult events were mostly related to the people’s economic and livelihood problems. The middle and lower classes of society were suffering from these problems and they continue to do so in the present time. Because I am aware of the people’s condition, I feel bitterness with all my heart. I feel the bitterness that the people – particularly lower and underprivileged classes – experience. And this bitterness is related to economic matters and problems such as high prices, unemployment and social detriments – for example, discrimination and inequality – which mainly originate from economic matters.

Well, all of us are responsible. We will have to answer both to Allah the Exalted and to the people. In the year of action and implementation – the year 1395 – I asked the honorable officials to establish a command center for action and implementation and they did so. Good tasks were fortunately carried out which was reported to us. However, there is a large gap between what has been carried out, and what the people and what we expect.

I will explain in my speech [annual speech in Mashhad] that some of the standards and statistics presented by officials are positive figures and some – which are presented by officials themselves – are negative. All these things should be seen together.

The economy of resistance is a system. If this system receives attention only under the name of the economy of resistance, it might prove to be not very efficient. In my opinion, the cure lies in dividing this system into important sectors and then specifying a timetable for each key and important sector. We should ask officials, prominent personalities and the masses of the people to focus all their effort on those key sectors.

In my opinion, the cure lies in identifying this key sector correctly this year. I believe that this key sector is production – domestic production – and employment, mainly of our youth. These are the main and key sectors. If we manage to focus on these two sectors and plan and categorize our affairs on this basis, I believe that the task will move forward to a great extent and impressive and tangible achievements will be made.

By Allah’s favor, I will explain in the speech the characteristics that are related to these two key and fundamental sectors. That is why, the name that I choose for this year is, “Economy of Resistance: Production and Employment”.

The economy of resistance is a general term which is accompanied by production and employment. These are the sectors that everyone should focus on. I and the people demand that the dear and honorable officials focus on these two sectors, carry out tasks with planning, and report the results to the people at the end of the year, God willing.

I hope that all will enjoy and experience a happy and joyful year – one that will be accompanied by security and welfare – in the shade of the blessings of the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for him) and with the prayers of the pure souls of our martyrs and our magnanimous Imam (r.a.).

Greetings be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings

New Year, Time for Creating More Jobs for Young People: Iran President

New Year, time for creating more jobs for young people: Iran president

“The new year will be the year of progress and development for our dear nation. The new year will be the year of more employment [opportunities] for our youths,” Rouhani said in a televised address to the Iranian nation on Monday on the occasion of the Iranian New Year.

“We need to carry out more efforts to compensate for the shortcomings,” he added.

“What we achieved in the last year in terms of curbing inflation, economic growth and job creation, has had no precedent in the past 25 years,” the Iranian president said.

During the preceding year, the country achieved an economic growth rate of eight percent for the first time after 11 years, he noted.

Rouhani also commended efforts by the country’s oil and gas industry in doubling the production of crude oil and condensate last year.

“Through oil diplomacy and because of efforts made by engineers and workers we managed to reclaim our past position in the production of oil and gas and condensate,” the Iranian chief executive said.

He also referred to the unveiling of a charter of citizenship rights last year, saying, “The charter of citizenship rights was unveiled last year as promised. Today, we will implement that charter with the help of you people.”

The Iranian president warned that “everybody must know that if they violate the citizenship rights, they will pay a very high price.”

He noted that Iranians must take part in two important elections this year, noting that ensuring people’s maximum turnout in those elections as well as holding “healthy competitions and constitutional elections” must be everybody’s goal.

Earlier on Monday, in his televised message to the nation on the occasion of the Persian New Year, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stressed the importance of domestic production and employment, especially for the Iranian youths.

“These are the main and key sectors. If we manage to focus on these two sectors and plan and categorize our affairs on this basis, I believe that the task will move forward to a great extent and impressive and tangible achievements will be made,” the Leader said.

The Leader designated the new Iranian calendar year of 1396 as the “Year of Economy of Resistance: Production and Employment.”

Iran FM hopes for peace and joy

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also expressed his congratulations to all Iranians across the globe on the advent of Nowruz.

Ayatollah Khamenei: ‘Housekeeping Involves Bringing Up Cosmos’ Most Majestic Product’

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says a number of people try to damage or lower womenfolk’s high status by reiterating and boasting West’s flawed and empty comments on Islam’s attitude towards women.

According to IFP, speaking in a meeting with Iranian performers of religious song, held on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH), and national Women’s Day and Mother’s Day on March 19, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “These deceived and ignorant people downgrade women’s housekeeping, while the job involves bringing up and educating man and producing the most valuable and majestic product of the cosmos which is human being.”

The 20th day of the lunar Islamic month of Jamadi al-Thani (this year falling on March 19) marks the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH) and the national Women’s Day and Mother’s Day.

The Leader stressed that men and women are not different in certain aspects and abilities such as attaining spiritual levels, exercising leadership and guiding mankind, adding however, there are a number of differences in their roles and responsibilities in family and managing life affairs.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (PBUH) is an excellent example in this regard.

Iran Strongly Condemns Israeli Fighter Jets’ Invasion of Syrian Territory

Iran Blasts Saudi Airstrike on Civilians in Yemen

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Saturday censured the Israeli fighter jets’ conspicuous assault on Syria, urging the United Nations to do its best to deter countries from committing such heinous crimes which shatter other states’ peace and undermine their security.

According to a Farsi report by Fars News Agency, he noted that the Israeli invasion of the Syrian territory, particularly, at a time when, the anti-terrorist front in Syria has gained an upper hand against the bloodthirsty terrorists in the country – expelling them from the Syrian cities and villages, indicates that the Zionist regime of Israel greatly benefits from supporting Takfiri [extremist] terrorists and seeks to protect its illegitimate interests by shoring them up.

Warning the world against the dire consequences the repetition of such provocative moves can lead to, Qassemi called on the UN to condemn the Israeli invasion and do its utmost to deter the bellicose and aggressive Zionist regime from perpetrating such brutal crimes against peace and security.

Top Commander Lauds Iranian Missiles’ ‘Exceptional’ Target Accuracy

The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri

The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, says that currently, Iran possesses the technology of building missiles with a target accuracy of less than 10 metres, adding there are few countries in the world which has the technology.

According to a Farsi report by Tasnim, speaking on the sidelines of his visit to an Iranian military and defence exhibition, Baqeri added all the weaponry put on display in the exposition have been produced employing indigenous technology.

He stressed that the world is required to realise that all of Iran’s post-war young generations, involved in the field science, hold the belief that they can help their country achieve self-sufficiency in all fields.

“Other problems of the country seems minor in the light of such great achievements.”
