IRGC Capable of Developing Ballistic Missiles that Hit Moving Targets

Arms Embargo Won’t Affect Iran’s Defence Power: Top General

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, Brigadier General Salami stressed the necessity for the IRGC to pay heed to knowledge and research fields and said, “Our enemies have stood against us with complex and special tactics and techniques.”

“In order to confront them, we need to take the initiative and employ special methods, techniques and tactics,” he added.

“Regarding the issue of production of ballistic missiles for hitting moving targets, I should say that we are among a handful of countries that have gained the knowhow (in this field),” the commander noted.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Iran Unveils World’s First Herbal Medicine for Alzheimer’s Disease

Melitropic

The medicine, named Melitropic, was unveiled during a ceremony in Iran’s Institute of Medicinal Plants at Jihad University on Saturday morning.

Iranian Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, President of Jihad University Seyyed Hamidreza Tayyebi and a number of researchers were in attendance.

The Iranian researchers reportedly drew on the country’s historically extensive expertise in treatment of brain disorders, and utilized latest related studies in the world to produce the herbal medicine.

Chairman of the Institute of Medicinal Plants at Jihad University, Dr. Shamsali Rezazadeh, said a series of clinical experiments were carried out on 42 patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s symptoms to determine the effectiveness of Melitropic.

He added that the patients were aged 65-80. While dracocephalum extract was administered to those in the experiment group, the patients in the control group received placebos.

Rezazadeh said forgetfulness and recognition indices plus potential side effects were analyzed after four months of studies; and the results recorded an obvious and noticeable improvement in the mental status of patients, who had been given dracocephalum extract. The anxiety disorder and irritability symptoms had considerably dropped among subjects in the experiment group.

The chairman of the Institute of Medicinal Plants at Jihad University emphasized that certain measures have been taken into consideration in order to introduce Melitropic to world markets.

Baby Born in Iran from Embryo Frozen for 14 Years

Baby

BabyAccording to Dr. Asadollah Kalantari, a founding member of Isfahan’s Fertility & Infertility Center, on Saturday, the child was born in full health, adding that the 42-year-mother was also in a suitable medical condition.

He added that this is the first time a child has been born with the use of an embryo frozen for so long with the last such case in Iran being a period of 11.5 years.

“The newborn’s mother experienced two Ectopic pregnancies 25 years ago that resulted in her inability to get pregnant. In 2003, an embryo was implanted in her womb via in vitro fertilization, or IVF, but the baby did not survive to be born,” he added.

Kalantari also said that there are currently 100,000 fertilized frozen embryos being kept in the facility in Esfahan.

Academy Raps Trump’s “Troubling” Ban that May Bar Iranian Filmmaker from Attending Oscars

‘The Salesman’ Deserves Academy Award

“The Academy celebrates achievement in the art of filmmaking, which seeks to transcend borders and speak to audiences around the world, regardless of national, ethnic, or religious differences,” an Academy spokesperson said in a statement.

“As supporters of filmmakers — and the human rights of all people — around the globe, we find it extremely troubling that Asghar Farhadi, the director of the Oscar-winning film from Iran, ‘A Separation,’ along with the cast and crew of this year’s Oscar-nominated film ‘The Salesman,’ could be barred from entering the country because of their religion or country of origin.”

Meanwhile, the Public Relations office of Farhadi’s latest film announced that the acclaimed director has no “legal barrier” for travelling to the US, but he will officially declare in the coming days whether he will attend the Oscars.

Earlier, Taraneh Alidousti, the star of “The Salesman,” announced this week that she would be boycotting the Oscars in protest of what she called a “racist” immigration ban.

Her reaction was warmly received by Iranian people and officials.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani described Alidousti’s move as a symbol of Iranian people’s national pride.

fajrAlso at the opening ceremony of Fajr International Film Festival held on Saturday evening in Tehran, the head of Iran’s Cinema Organization Hojjatollah Ayoubi and veteran cinema professional Gholam-Reza Mousavi, among others, praised her move. Mousavi even raised his hat to show his respect for Alidousti’s reaction.

Many people across the US have held protest rallies inside or in front of airports to condemn US President Donald Trump’s visa restrictions for Syrian refugees and nationals of 7 countries, including Iran.

Fire Department was called after smoke and flames billowing from the Islamic Centre of Victoria were spotted at around 2 a.m. It took about four hours to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters Contain Blaze at Tehran’s Oil Refinery

Oil Refinery

Firefighters managed to extinguish a massive fire after four hours. The operation ended early this morning.

A lightning strike set fire to an oil tank and the fuel leaking out made the fire spread through the surrounding area.

This was the second major fire in Tehran in the past two weeks.

On January 19, top stories of the Plasco building in downtown Tehran caught fire in the morning, and the whole building crumpled to the ground four hours later.

More than 20 people, including 16 firefighters, died in the incident.

Another Airbus Plane Painted in Iran Air’s Livery

Iran Air-Airbus a321

“Iran Air’s new A330 has been spotted … Awaits delivery!” reads a late-Friday tweet from Iran Air’s official handle.

Iran Air received an Airbus A321 on January 12, which marked the first delivery from western plane-makers after the nuclear deal.

A background check of the A330 shows the plane was initially built for the Sao Paulo-based Avianca airline, which cancelled its order before delivery.

The delivered A321 was also sold to Iran after it was cancelled by another buyer.

Iran Air says it hopes to receive at least two aircraft in addition to the one it received earlier from Airbus by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017).

After the nuclear deal was signed, Iran Air ordered 100 airliners from Airbus and 80 from Boeing and is close to a deal to buy 20 turboprop aircraft from Toulouse-based ATR.

Iran’s Tejarat Bank Files Lawsuit against EU for Losses Incurred during Sanctions

tejarat

“Tejarat and many other Iranian banks suffered a great deal of direct and indirect losses followed by the unjust sanctions imposed on Dec. 2011,” Mohammad Ebrahim Moqaddam was also quoted as saying by Banker.ir.

“After Tejarat Bank was vindicated by the European Union’s judicial bodies and the embargo was lifted, the bank sought the help of professional accounting firms in estimating the damage inflicted by EU sanctions within the framework of international standards.”

According to Moqaddam, restrictions on his bank led to its accounts being frozen by EU authorities, resulting in a considerable reduction in the private bank’s foreign exchange revenues.

European Union’s second highest court annulled EU sanctions on Tejarat in January 2015 before the historic nuclear deal was reached between Iran and world powers after it was proved that the bank had no role in financing the Iranian nuclear program.

The court ruling ordered the release of the Tehran-based lender’s assets frozen in the EU and the resumption of its activities there.

The General Court struck down the sanctions, saying the Council of EU governments had failed to prove that the bank had provided support for the nuclear program or had helped others to circumvent sanctions.

It also said the bank was partially privatized in 2009 and the Iranian state was no longer its majority shareholder.

The bank’s CEO said pursuing the action at ECJ required hundreds of hours of meetings with legal advisers and both local and international lawyers, and the translation of thousands of pages of the bank’s papers.

Moqaddam assured shareholders and customers that Tejarat Bank will continue to use its full professional and legal force to protect their interests and pursue the lawsuit for claiming the damages inflicted by the EU sanctions.

Bank Mellat, another major private bank, revealed last March that the UK High Court ruled in favor of his bank and it will receive $4 billion in compensation by late spring.

The bank had made a case against the UK Treasury for being sanctioned without sufficient evidence over claims of its involvement in the country’s nuclear program.
