Iran Raps US Supreme Court Decision on Trump’s Travel Ban

bahram

Although the US Supreme Court’s decision is temporary and will be revised in October, it reveals the fact that despite US officials’ claims, Washington is determined to have a discriminatory treatment of Muslims and adopt an unfair approach towards them, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

“While nearly all Muslims living in the US as well as those travelling to the country, including Iranians, are, according to their history, culture and civilization, typically conformist and tolerant people who keep extremism and violence at bay, the US officials have always treated them with pessimism and humiliation,” he stressed.

“The US president’s stances towards Muslims during his presidential campaign and after taking power are clear examples of such humiliating approach,” Qassemi noted.

The spokesperson condemned such policies and said it is regrettable that the US government is closing its eyes on the real perpetrators of terrorist attacks in the US and misguiding public opinion just because of its short-sighted economic justifications.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will give an appropriate response and adopt the required measures after closely studying the latest decision made by the US Supreme Court,” he said.

The US Supreme Court on Monday allowed parts of Trump’s travel ban to go into effect. It will hear oral arguments on the case this fall. Based on the decision, people from six Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, and all refugees are not allowed to enter the US unless they have “a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.”

Major General Hamid al-Maliki, the head of the Iraqi Army’s Aviation Command, noted on Tuesday the ISIS terrorists are only controlling 1,000 square metres of the Old City of Mosul.

Sources say PM Abadi is going to declare the city’s full liberation in a few hours, after 1,112 days of ISIS siege.

German FM Hails Iran's Positive Role in Mideast

In a Tuesday joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Berlin, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said his country hopes that Iran continues to play its positive role in Iraq and Syria and finds a way to resolve Israel-Palestine conflict.

“We hope Iran prepares the ground for investment and manages to settle the disputes in the region. We also hope that Iran expands its ties with the neighbouring countries,” he noted.

The German top diplomat also welcomed the expansion of ties between Tehran and Berlin in all fields and said Iran is a great and strong country and President Hassan Rouhani has vowed to provide the Iranian nation with an improved economy.

He said during his meeting with Zarif, the two sides exchanged views on their differences over some issues including Israel.

The German minister also referred to the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers known as JCOPA and said, “Some [states] claim that Iran has failed to fulfil its commitments under the nuclear deal, but the reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reveal the opposite.”

“Germany has expressed its support for the deal and we call on all sides to back the deal and stop casting doubt about it,” Gabriel noted.

For his part, Iranian foreign minister said Iran and Germany have had good relations based on mutual confidence as well as common interests over the past decades.

“Today, after the removal of the unjust sanctions which Germany played a key role in their lifting, we are witnessing growth in the economic relations between Iran and Germany,” he said.

Zarif went on saying that he had good talks with the German officials during his visit to the country, adding that the European country’s officials as well as industrial mangers have the required will to expand their ties with Iran.

“We are also interested in making use of Germany’s economic and banking facilities,” he noted.

The Iranian top diplomat also noted that Iran is a safe state in a region which is suffering from instability and terrorism.

“Despite this, Iran has managed to establish a democratic state which is a good partner for Germany,” he added.

IRGC to Counter Enemies Who Seek to ‘Milk’ Iran: Commander

In comments, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari underlined that the IRGC is duty bound to protect the Iranian nation, the Establishment, and the country’s security against the enemies with its great military capabilities, including missiles.

The IRGC believes that the aliens only care about their own interests and are seeking to “milk Iran”, the commander added, warning officials that putting trust in the outsiders would only result in “embarrassment and encountering successive acts of betrayal.”

The IRGC feels bound to protect the Islamic Revolution and its achievements, the top general added, describing the efforts to cut the Iranian economy’s dependence on foreigners and improve the livelihood of people as one main instance of such protection.

Major General Jafari then emphasized that the IRGC is not concentrating on economic and business-related activities, arguing that its programs are confined to fighting poverty, development plans in underprivileged areas, and thwarting the plots that the enemies hatch to put economic pressure on Iran.

The commander then pointed to a large number of mega-projects completed by the IRGC, including several phases of the South Pars gas field, the Persian Gulf Star gas condensate refinery, a large number of dams, and a whole host of other projects.

Without getting frustrated by the unfair criticism of the IRGC’s role in the country, the IRGC and Basij (voluntary forces) are still fully prepared to give the administration assistance by contributing to development plans, helping improve the livelihood of people, and reducing the economic burden for them, he underlined.

‘ISIS to Benefit from US Escalation in Syria on False Pretext’

zarif-mohammad javad

“Another dangerous US escalation in Syria on fake pretext will only serve ISIS, precisely when it’s being wiped out by Iraqi and Syrian people,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a post in his Twitter account on Tuesday.

His remarks came after a US warning to the Syrian leadership that it will pay a heavy price for any chemical weapons attack.

The White House had claimed on Monday that the preparations in Syria were similar to actions before an alleged chemical attack on April 4.

The US allegation was also denounced by Russia as ‘unacceptable’.

“I am not aware of any information about a threat that chemical weapons can be used,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

“Certainly, we consider such threats to the legitimate leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic unacceptable.”

‘Bigoted’ Muslim Ban Not to Make US Safer: Iran FM

“A bigoted ban on Muslims will not keep US safer,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a post in his Twitter account on Tuesday.

“Instead of policies empowering extremists, the US should join the real fight against them,” he went on to say.

‘Bigoted’ Muslim Ban Not to Make US Safer: Iran FM

The Iranian foreign minister’s remarks came after the US Supreme Court decided to partially reinstate President Trump’s travel ban on refugees and people from six Muslim countries, including Iran.

In a Tuesday joint press conference with his German counterpart in Berlin, Zarif had noted that “it’s regrettable that the citizens of the countries on the list have never participated in any act of terrorism against the United States and yet they are punished for acts of terrorism that have been committed by citizens of other countries who are not on the list.”

“We always believed that the Muslim ban that President Trump imposed soon after assuming office had no basis in facts and it would not help fight terrorism,” he added.

The top Iranian diplomat criticized the move as a “misplaced and misguided policy” and emphasized that it “would be the greatest gift to extremist groups who would use it as a rallying cry to attract new followers.”

“It is regrettable that the Supreme Court decided to overrule the decisions of the previous courts or at least consider overruling them, if you want to be more exact,” Zarif said, according to Press TV.

He said the Supreme Court’s decision would fail to increase anybody’s security.

“It is not a call for putting anybody else on the list, but it’s just the problem that for some terrorism and support for terrorism is measured by the amount of money they spend on buying arms from the US and not by actually being involved in acts of terrorism,” the Iranian foreign minister pointed out.

Iran Urges Eurasian States to Boost Economic Ties

Iran Urges Eurasian States to Boost Economic Ties

Lirijani-Iran Urges Eurasian States to Boost Economic TiesIran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments in Seoul can help boost lasting security and further enhance economic relations between Eurasian nations.

Speaking in a Farsi interview with IRIB upon arrival in the South Korean capital, Larijani said the meeting is an initiative which began last year, and Iran has played a key role in forming the organization.

“Speakers of Eurasian and some European countries are engaged in cooperation to settle problems facing the region,” said Larijani.

“Given the international situation, such institutions and organizations, which have the potential to be expanded and go beyond a continent, can contribute to promotion of lasting security in the region and development of economic ties between countries,” said the parliament speaker.

He said among the topics on the agenda of the meeting will be investment in the economy sector, use of energy and security issues facing the region.

Larijani expressed the hope that the statute of the conference will be drawn up, so that Eurasian member states will be able to discuss and settle their issues more actively.

“There will be meetings with Korean officials and parliament speakers attending the conference, and the meetings will revolve around promotion of relations between Iran and South Korea and other countries present at the event,” he said.

“As the ground is prepared for investment, we welcome investment by South Korea as well,” he said.

Time Ripe for Expansion of Iran-Germany Ties: FM Zarif

Time Ripe for Expansion of Iran-Germany Ties: FM Zarif

In a meeting with German Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, Zarif highlighted the great capacities for investment in Iran and said it is time to expand Iran-Germany economic relations.

Banking cooperation is an appropriate prelude to such an expansion, the Iranian top diplomat said during the Tuesday meeting held in Berlin.

Zarif went on saying that the Iranian and German nations enjoy good and historical relations, adding there are reciprocal confidence between the two countries’ businesspeople.

“Iran can be a reliable business partner for Germany in joint production of goods and exporting them to regional countries, particularly the Central Asia,” he said.

Time Ripe for Expansion of Iran-Germany Ties: FM ZarifFor her part, Brigitte Zypries referred to the longtime economic relations between Iran and Germany and said the trade volume between the two sides stands at 3 billion dollars.

“At present, the economic relations between Iran and Germany stand at a good level. A large number of Germans visit Iran annually and the growing contact between the two nations will improve Tehran-Berlin business ties,” she said.

Zypries also called for further expansion of relations between the two states and said export credit guarantee by the Germany Federal Government (Hermes) covers investment projects in Iran, particularly in certain fields like energy and power.

Elsewhere in her remarks, she highlighted the role of banking systems in providing finance for economic projects and said Germany is seeking to improve its banking relations with Iran.

“Germany is interested in expansion of its ties with Iran at all economic and political levels,” she added.

‘US Bans on Independent Nations against Int’l Law’

Addressing a Meeting of Parliament Speakers of Eurasian Countries in the South Korean capital, Seoul, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Washington’s ratification of unilateral economic sanctions against independent countries is a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter as well as the multilateral trade system.

He said Tehran rejects the US Senate’s recent decision to impose sanctions on Iranian and Russian institutions and nationals, and believes such measures run counter to US commitments, under international law, concerning non-interference in other countries’ affairs.

He said the Eurasian countries’ governments and parliaments should work out a mechanism to prevent such arbitrary and bullying behaviour and neutralize the effects of these sanctions.

In his remarks, the top parliamentarian also said the idea of holding the Meeting jointly initiated by the South Korean parliament and Russia’s Duma can serve as a constructive mechanism on the international stage provided that it is geared to proper utilization of member states’ potential.

He said a collective effort is required to tap into the existing potentialities and tackle the challenges that member states are facing. He said adoption of policies in such areas as energy, industry, trade, transportation of goods, and other economic areas can play a key role in boosting regional cooperation.

Larijani also stressed that necessary measures should be adopted to counter common challenges and threats, namely terrorism, extremism and violence as well as unilateral economic sanctions which affect free trade relations at the regional and international levels.

The parliament speaker noted that Iran, given its key geopolitical situation as well as economic, cultural and security potentialities, stands ready to contribute heavily to development and welfare of, and creation of a stable security system in the Eurasia region.

He added Iran also enjoys great potential in the field of energy and has a safe and economically viable route to transfer energy commodities to world markets, not to mention its wealth of experience in fighting terrorism, organized crime and drug trade, all of which can help boost regional cooperation and bring about convergence among member states.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani said the Eurasia region as well as the whole world is facing numerous political, security and economic challenges and crises. Unfortunately, he noted, terrorism and extremism have turned into a destructive global threat, jeopardizing international peace and security.

Among the dire consequences of these scourges, he said, is that thousands of innocent people have been killed or wounded in such countries as Syria, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen, and millions have been displaced.

He also categorically condemned acts of terror committed by ISIS in Asian and European countries, including the recent terrorist attack in Tehran which left several people dead or wounded.

He called for efforts to identify and counter the ideological origins of terrorist groups while denouncing the Takfiri-Wahhabi ideology as a deviant current and driving force behind terrorist acts in different parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East.

Larijani then noted that the US and certain regional countries are banging the drum for fighting terrorism while it has become evident they are supporting terrorism instead.

Larijani then touched upon Syria, and said the current crisis in the country intensified by foreign interference has led to a humanitarian disaster and destroyed the nation’s vital infrastructure.

He reiterated Iran’s backing for Syria in fight against terrorism while highlighting people’s role in determining their political system as well as the importance of a political solution to the current crisis gripping the country.

The parliament speaker also referred to the Astana talks brokered by Iran, Russia and Turkey. He said the three countries are making coordinated efforts to expedite the process of reaching a political settlement of the crisis. The attempts, he said, have resulted in the establishment of a relative ceasefire and de-escalation of violence in different parts of the country.

Larijani also referred to the Saudi aggression on Yemen. He said Saudi attacks have caused a human tragedy and massacre in the country. The speaker then underlined that political and arms support for the aggressors by some super powers has drawn out the conflict and led to a rise in casualties among civilians. He said Iran stresses the futility of a military solution and highlights the need for an end to the Saudi aggression and resumption of intra-Yemeni talks with the participation of all parties to the conflict and without foreign interference.

Larijani also said Iran believes the tension on the Korean peninsula can only be settled through political dialogue and peaceful means as well as regional cooperation.

It is necessary to refrain from any move that would fuel tension in the region, Larijani noted.

He then underlined the importance of establishing and strengthening regional parliamentary institutions, and said institutions such as the Asian Parliamentary Assembly can play a key role in promoting parliamentary activities in Eurasia.

He further urged the Meeting of Parliament Speakers of Eurasian Countries to establish a secretariat and draw up its statute to turn this fledgling institution into a dynamic and influential body on the international stage. He said the Iranian parliament in Tehran is ready to host a meeting of the committee tasked with drawing up the draft statute.

Syrian President Leaves Damascus to Visit Injured Troops (+Photos)

President Assad and his family visited Mohammad Ahmad Khalil in the village of Tal Aafar and Fatir Hassan Mansour in the village of Rabou. Both of the soldiers were wounded in the line of duty while battling Takfiri terrorists and have a disability rating of over 90 percent, the SANA news agency reported on Monday.

In Matna village, the Assads visited Ahmad Mohammad al-Ali and Ayham Mahmoud Dunya in Deir Shmail village.

All of the wounded troops are receiving support by the Jarih al-Watan program which aids troops with treatment and prosthetics, surgery and helps their general rehabilitation.

The program was launched by the Syrian president in 2014 with the goal of supporting wounded troops and civilians by providing their needs, mainly those whose wounds stop them from functioning in their normal lives.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August 2016 that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
