Iran Starts Finding Training Camp in Russia for 2018 FIFA World Cup

Football

Nearly one year ahead of the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Queiroz is seeking to select and sign a contract on the squad’s camp location.

According to a Farsi report by the Khabar Online News Agency, this is something that has always been of great importance for the world’s leading teams.

For example, during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Germans built a camp for themselves that was the most equipped. However, after the end of the games they gave it to Brazil.

Iran was training at Corinthians Club Camp during that time. The camp was sought by two other countries as well.

Of course, in the previous World Cup games Iran did not qualify very soon, but this time Team Melli was the third squad making its way to the World Cup. That’s why Queiroz has sent his two assistants to Russia to see the options and seal a contract on the camp location for the national team.

This means Iran’s Football Federation will have to give an advance payment to the Russian Football Federation soon.

In fact, the Iranian national team head coach wants to choose the camp location before the other teams qualify. In this way, Queiroz may have more options to choose from and can take the best.

Alliance of Palestinian Forces Praises Iran’s Support

During the meeting held in the Syrian capital on Wednesday, the leaders of the Alliance of Palestinian Forces praised the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support for the Palestinian cause.

They also referred to the dangers and threats posed by the regional developments to Palestine and expressed regret that some regional states are supporting the Zionist-American plots to sideline the issue of Palestine.

Jaberi Ansari, for his part, referred to the main turning points in the regional developments over the past century as well as the ups and downs of Palestinian issue and said, “Today, we face a new wave of enemy plots against the regional nations and Palestine.”

“To find our bearings amid the current storms of events in the region, we have to draw on the regional nations’ resistance as well as the unprecedented successes of the Palestinian resistance groups over the past decade achieved after the victory of the [1979] Islamic Revolution.”

The meeting was attended by leaders of Islamic Jihad Movement, Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command, Palestinian National Liberation Movement – Fatah Intifada, Palestinian Popular Struggle Front, Palestine Liberation Front, al-Sai’qa faction of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and Iran-Palestine Friendship Association.

Iran’s ambassador to Syria was also present in the meeting.

The Alliance of Palestinian Forces is an alliance of eight Palestinian political factions. The Alliance was created in Damascus in December 1993 by ten factions opposed to the negotiations that led up to the Oslo Accords. The Alliance calls for the liberation of all Palestinian lands.

Thinking about JCPOA Renegotiation Extremely Dangerous: Iran FM

mohammad javad zarif

“It would be extremely dangerous to even contemplate reopening these negotiations, because now we all go into any possible negotiations with even higher expectations,” Zarif told the New Yorker in an interview published on Wednesday.

“It was complicated enough to reach this deal already, and it would be impossible to reach another deal,” said the Iranian top diplomat, who is in New York for a speech at the United Nations.

He further referred to speculations about his possible meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and said, “I haven’t asked for a meeting, and I don’t think I will.”

“We’re not opposed to the possibility of a meeting between us and Secretary Tillerson if it is necessary for the implementation of the nuclear deal…if we succeed in seeing good faith on the part of the United States in the implementation of the nuclear deal, then it would be a foundation and not the ceiling. And it would be possible to engage in other areas. We haven’t seen that yet.”

He also referred to US President Donald Trump administration’s confusion over the deal and said, “It’s not clear what the Administration is planning to do. I think now they have come to the realization that scrapping the deal is not something that would be globally welcomed.”

Zarif went on to say that the message the United States is sending to the rest of the world is that you cannot count on the US being committed to its international undertakings.

“So, not only is that a bad signal to Iran but also a bad signal to anybody else, whoever contemplates talking to the US or negotiating with the US,” he added.

Iran Raps ‘Biased, Groundless’ US Reports on Terrorism

In a statement on Thursday, Qassemi dismissed the annual report as lacking any credibility and said it is a futile attempt by Washington to deflect international attention from the United States’ role in creating, promoting and supporting terrorist groups in the world, especially in the Middle East.

He said the report, in fact, reflects grudging policies and contemptible attempts to use any issue as a tool to pursue this wrong policy.

“The report should, in principle and based on its pre-defined framework, discuss the situation of countries in fighting terrorism as well as the progress made in this regard; but as for Iran, the report denies the fact that the Islamic Republic has been at the forefront of the campaign against the most dangerous kind of terrorism in the region, something that the whole world admits,” said Qassemi.

“The report resorts to unrealistic and very preliminary approaches as well as the political contradictions which exist in a country, denies the clear and obvious facts and levels baseless accusations,” said the spokesman.

He said one of the reasons why the report is unfounded and lacks credibility is that countries have been introduced as US partners in the fight against terrorism that are among Washington’s allies in the region and have been the main ideological birthplaces of most major terrorist groups and currents in the world over the past two decades and continue backing terror groups.

This is clear to all people in the US, especially to American officials and media, and also to everyone in other parts of the world, Qassemi noted.

Numerous documents have proven that these countries have been involved in some of the most famous terror incidents across the world, he went on to say.

“This comes as, by the admission of many governments and international organizations, reports on Iran’s actions in fighting terrorism, including the imposition of triple international sanctions against terrorism, are not comparable with [the performance of] many of US allies in the region.”

Qassemi stressed that Iran has been a victim of terrorism over the past four decades and has lost more than 17 thousand of its citizens in the criminal acts committed by different terrorist groups.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to continue fighting terrorist groups and violent extremism as a global threat, and will stand by Iraqi and Syrian governments to fight ISIS and other terrorist groups as long as Baghdad and Damascus want it to,” the Iranian spokesman noted.

“Levelling false, biased and groundless accusations such as the ones mentioned in the recent report by the US State Department will have no bearing on this policy,” he said.

“We consider a world and a Middle East free from terrorism an attainable goal and believe that in order for that to happen, certain regional and trans-regional countries should stop their financial, ideological and military support for terrorist groups, the alleged military coalitions which are just a show should be dismantled, an alliance should be established among all states which are honest in the fight against terrorism, and there should be serious and honest determination in this regard.”

US Bases in Mideast to Become Insecure If IRGC Blacklisted: Commander

IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Ja’afari said in the northeastern city of Mashhad on Wednesday that the US bases in the region would be insecure if Washington blacklisted the IRGC or imposed sanctions on Iran over its defense program.

“If the US seeks to pursue sanctions against [Iran’s] defense [program] and the IRGC, before that it should move its regional bases 1,000 kilometers away from Iran and it should know that it has to pay a high price for its miscalculation,” warned the top commander.

Underlining the significance of missile capabilities in promoting the country’s deterrence power, Ja’afari said that the IRGC was expanding the production of its missiles that could successfully hit targets with pinpoint precision, just as they did during a recent attack on the positions of Takfiri terrorists in Syria.

Last month, the IRGC fired six medium-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles at Daesh bases in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr, which killed more than 170 Takfiri terrorists, including a number of commanders and senior elements, and inflicted heavy damage on their equipment and systems.

The missile attack came after gunmen mounted almost simultaneous assaults on Iran’s Parliament and the Mausoleum of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini on June 7. The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assaults, which killed 17 people and injured over 50 others.

“Iran’s missile power in air, sea and on land is rapidly increasing, and this is an inalienable principle for us,” the IRGC commander added, stressing that Iran’s missile might is not up for negotiations.

Ja’afari said that the enemy regards a new war as harmful to its interests as all military and warmongering acts of the enemies in the region have backfired so far.

On Tuesday, the United States slapped new economic sanctions against Iran over its ballistic missile program.

Iran has recently made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and hardware. The Islamic Republic says its military power poses no threat to other countries and is merely based on the doctrine of deterrence.

US officials have also said that President Donald Trump’s administration was considering a proposal that could lead to categorizing the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

Syria PM Calls for Promotion of Business Ties with Iran

In a Wednesday meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari in Damascus, Syrian PM Khamis appreciated Iran’s economic and political support for Syria, and emphasized that business ties between the two countries have to be boosted.

The Syrian prime minister said the Arab country has invited Iran’s First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri to visit Damascus.

“I hope we will soon host him [Jahangiri] in our country so that we could follow up and reach agreements on various areas of mutual economic cooperation,” he added.

The two sides also discussed current developments and cooperation between the two countries in various economic and political fields.

The Iranian diplomat, for his part, touched upon the strategic relations between the two countries and stressed the necessity of implementing the economic deals already sealed between the two sides.

Earlier in the day, Jaberi Ansari also held separate meetings with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem and his deputy Faisal Mekdad.

Jaberi Ansari arrived in Damascus on Tuesday night on an official two-day visit.

Iran to Stand against US Violation of Nuclear Deal: President

The Americans are looking for various excuses to introduce new anti-Iran sanctions that do not comply with the letter and spirit of the JCPOA with any logic and are in breach of the nuclear deal, President Rouhani said at a cabinet session on Wednesday.

He also took a swipe at the US government for its paradoxical policies, saying it has, on one hand, confirmed Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA and on the other hand imposed fresh sanctions on the country.

President Rouhani further made it clear that any new US sanctions under any pretext will receive “an appropriate response” from Iran, noting that Iran’s Parliament has also devised retaliatory measures.

“We would not overlook the US breaches and would stand against them, but at the same time, we are aware how to take advantage of the situation that has arisen,” he added.

The reaction came after the US State Department and the Department of Treasury announced on Tuesday that they were targeting 18 Iranian individuals, groups and networks over alleged non-nuclear behavior, such as support for ballistic missiles development.

The move came a day after Trump’s administration certified to the Congress that Iran is technically complying with the nuclear deal and can continue enjoying nuclear sanctions relief.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA.

The 159-page accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies.

Iranian Diplomat, Syrian FM Hold Talks in Damascus

Jaberi Ansari and Syrian FM Muallem conferred on the latest developments in Syria as well as the future plans of Tehran and Damascus in different fields including the fight against terrorism in the Arab country.

Muallem praised the Islamic Republic of Iran’s role in establishing peace and stability in the country, and appreciated Tehran’s political support at the international level, particularly during the bilateral and multilateral peace talks in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The Iranian diplomat also held talks with his Syrian counterpart Mekdad. The two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria in a meeting of the Iran-Syria Joint Political Committee.

They talked about the most recent developments in Syria and the political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis in the Arab country.

The Iranian and Syrian diplomats particularly discussed the issues raised during the Astana Process and Geneva Talks and the agreement on a ceasefire in southern Syria, and made the required arrangements.

Bilateral ties and mutual cooperation between Tehran and Damascus were also touched upon during the meeting.

The meetings between the Iranian and Syrian officials were held as part of the international efforts to restore peace to Syria including the latest round of Astana talks, the agreement on a ceasefire in southern Syria, and the Geneva Talks.

Jaberi Ansari, who is also the chief Iranian negotiator at the Astana Process, arrived in the Syrian capital on Tuesday night in a visit aimed at following up on the latest international negotiations on the war-torn Arab state.

Iran Urges Saudi Arabia Not to Politicize Sports

“We share a lot of common interests with Saudi Arabia in the region strategically,” Soltanifar said on Wednesday.

Attributing the political disputes in the region to acts of provocation by the Israeli regime, he expressed the hope that Saudi authorities would “come to their senses and avoid politicizing sporting interactions.”

Diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh soured following the January 2016 execution of Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia, an outspoken critic of the Saudi monarchy. Riyadh cut ties with Tehran afterwards, responding to attacks by angry protesters on its embassy in the Iranian capital.

Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen as well as the death of hundreds of Iranian Hajj pilgrims in a deadly crush in Saudi Arabia’s Mina in September 2015 had prepared the ground for the deterioration of tensions between Tehran and Riyadh.

The tensions have even spilled out onto the football field. Following the severance of diplomatic ties, Saudi officials asked for the football games between Iranian and Saudi teams to be held at a neutral venue.
