Iran Leader Warns against West’s Plot to Dominate Muslim World

Ayatollah Khamenei made the comments in a Thursday meeting with dozens of Quran reciters and memorizers attending the 34th International Holy Quran Competitions in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The Leader described the West’s political, economic and cultural dominance as the main challenge gripping many Muslim societies today, a situation which has weakened their “Islamic identity.”

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

To preserve their “Islamic identity,” the Leader said, Muslim nations should make efforts to get a clear understanding of “Quranic concepts” and make them an inseparable and routine part of their public and international discourse.

“We are at a distance from Quran, and this is benefiting the enemies,” added Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Leader said staying away from the Holy Quran leads to the elimination of Islamic identity in Muslim states.

Ayatollah Khamenei further said the loss of this Islamic identity today is reflected in the weak stances adopted by certain Muslim countries in the face of the US and the Zionist regime of Israel.

Iran Unveils Reflective Collars to Reduce Camels’ Road Deaths

On the sidelines of a ceremony to mark the Earth Day on April 22 at the Iranian Department of Environment, an Iranian tyre producer, Kavir Tire, unveiled a reflective collar aiming to protect the lives of camels crossing the country’s roads at night.

According to a Farsi report by the website of the Department of Environment, by the move, the company aims to play its social role and display its commitment to protecting the life of the country’s human beings and animals and supporting its ecosystem.

The move was also aimed at bringing down the large number of the road accidents and casualties in Iran as well as the substantial number of animals being hit by vehicles, and killed, when crossing the country’s intercity roads at nights.

Commenting on the collars and their purpose at the ceremony, Mohammad-Hossein Zeinali, Kavir Tire’s CEO, said by implementing the project, the company’s directors seek to fulfil their commitments on protecting the life of the country’s human beings and animals and supporting its ecosystem.

Kavir Tire had earlier unveiled another eco-friendly product called green tyres.

Iranian Artists, Politicians Raise Money for Release of Women Prisoners

Iran’s Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Mowlaverdi and Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei were joined by a number of Iranian cinema actors and theatre artists in a ceremony held in Tehran on Wednesday (April 26) to raise money for a number of female prisoners kept for accidental crimes.

According to a Farsi report by Iran Newspaper, addressing the ceremony, Mowlaverdi said most of these women have been incarcerated for being the guarantors of bad checks.

She said, “There are cases of women, imprisoned for unbelievably small sums of money. Nevertheless, even these trivial sums have caused them to be put in jail and have criminal record.”

At present, $2.85 million in donations are required to be raised to release 200 Iranian women imprisoned for carrying out accidental crimes, she added.

Mowlaverdi said currently, more than 200 women in Iran are serving time in prison for committing accidental crimes, of which 90 percent have no criminal record.

The absence of these women from the society causes great and serious social, psychological and public harms, Mowlaverdi stressed.

She added the passing of each prison sentence gives birth to three social harms.

“In the absence of their mothers, children develop behavioural disorders. In the past few years, improving incarcerated women’s living conditions has been among the policy approaches pursued by Iran’s Vice-Presidency for Women and Family Affairs.”

She noted that to implement the approach, diverse measures were studied and made among which was holding numerous meetings and negotiations with the directors of Iran’s Diyyeh (Blood Money) Headquarters.

“Another measure was the signing of an MoU to identify and release women prisoners who have been incarcerated for committing accidental crimes.”

Mowlaverdi said it was also proposed to ask employed men and women to allocate the last five digits of the salary written on their payslips to release such women.

Concurrently, Iran’s Diyyeh (Blood Money) Headquarters issued a public invitation, calling on the people to make their donations to its account number, she noted.

“So far, 18,000 people have contributed a total of $71,428 to this benevolent campaign. Currently, we need $2.85 million to release 200 Iranian women imprisoned for carrying out accidental crimes. The money, in case procured, will also be spent on creating sustainable employment for the released women as well as training and empowering them.”

“I offer my condolences over the sad news of the martyrdom of a number of brave and innocent Iranian border guards killed by armed outlaws,” Zarif said in a message on Thursday.

Zarif expressed his sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims, and gave assurance that the Foreign Ministry will spare no effort to pursue the issue and the punishment of the terrorists through diplomatic channels.

Takfiri militants shot to death 9 Iranian border guards who were patrolling on the frontier with Pakistan on Wednesday.

The Iranian troops were martyred in an ambush by the terrorists in Mirjaveh in the Iran-Pakistan border’s zero-point.

A terrorist group calling itself Jaish al-Adl [The Army of Justice] has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

The spokesman for the Iranian Police said Pakistan should accept its responsibility for the cross-border terrorist attack.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency late on Wednesday, Brigadier General Saeed Montazer-al-Mahdi said the border guards were killed by long-range weapons firing from inside Pakistan.

Iranian FM Raps US Navy’s Presence in Persian Gulf

mohammad javad zarif

“Breaking: Our Navy operates in – yes, correct – the Persian Gulf, not the Gulf of Mexico,” Iran’s top diplomat said in a recent tweet on Wednesday.

twitter zarif“[The] Question is what [the] US Navy [is] doing 7,500 miles from home,” he added, criticizing the US Navy’s presence in the Persian Gulf.

His remarks came after reports of a close encounter between an Iranian vessel and the US warship USS Mahan in the Persian Gulf.

US officials claimed that the Iranian vessel has come within just 1,000 yards of the USS Mahan in the Persian Gulf on Monday.

The US officials said the Iranian “fast-attack craft” had its weapons manned, to which the USS Mahan responded by manning its own weapons, sounding the danger signal, firing a flare and altering course to avoid the oncoming Iranian ship.

Figures Say Number of Foreign Tourists to Iran Peaked in 2016

Figures Say Number of Foreign Tourists to Iran Peaked
Foreign Tourists-Kashan

As shown by official figures, Iran, as a tourist destination, has gained greater popularity among foreigners in the past four years, particularly after the beginning of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal signed between Iran and six world powers, in 2016, which is a tangible achievement by the country’s incumbent government.
According to a Farsi report by the Vaghaye Ettefaghieh newspaper, over the past few days, discussions about issues pertaining to Iran’s upcoming presidential elections (due to be held on May 19) gradually began to overshadow other topics and news. The spontaneous creation of the hashtag #Tangible_Changes, as a reaction to the performance of the Rouhani administration, started an interesting trend in social network, to which a large number of social media users responded by mentioning the positive changes they had witnessed in the past four years since the beginning of President Rouhani’s term in office.
One of the comments, written in response to the hashtag, read: “These days, happy and surprised foreign tourists are seen in every part of Tehran, while strolling along and having fun. And this means #Tangible_Changes [have been made].”
Confirming reports and claims by eyewitnesses, official figures also indicate that since 2013, particularly following the signing of the nuclear deal, also known as the JCPOA, [between Tehran and P5+1] in 2015, the number of foreign tourists visiting Iran has experienced an unprecedented growth.
Tourism experts give numerous analyses of the spike, stressing that the international community’s changed attitude towards Iran, which has led to the formation of a positive image of the country in people’s mind, has greatly contributed to the growth. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Iran is still far from having the necessary tourism infrastructures.
However, by making Iran a safe and secure place for foreign tourists, the first step has been taken successfully to guarantee their greater presence in the country.
The number of tourists from Germany (29,000), France, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, Austria, Spain and Switzerland (4,000) to Iran has been subject to a gradual increase over the past four years, placing them among the top 10 countries in terms of the number of tourists visiting Iran in the world.

Figures Say Number of Foreign Tourists to Iran Peaked in 2016

The diagram presented above, shows the rise in the percentage of European tourists to Iran from March 20, 2016 to September 21, 2016 compared to the corresponding period in 2015. The increasing trend began after the signing of the nuclear deal and, then, became quite noticeable in the first few months after the beginning of JCPOA implementation. The number of foreign visitors to Iran in 2015 indicated a 3-percent growth compared to that of a year ago.
This is while, as more time elapsed since the Implementation Day of the JCPOA (January 16, 2016), in view of the efforts to present Iran as one of the world’s important tourist destinations, the number of foreign visitors to the country during March 20, 2016-September 21, 2016 witnessed an increase of 40-percent compared with the figure for the same duration of last year.
Figures by Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) show that in this period, 117,619 foreign tourists visited Iran. In the same time span in 2015, the figure stood at 87,314.

During the six-month period in 2016, France ranked first in terms of witnessing the highest growth (104.1 percent) in the number tourists to Iran after the going into effect of the JCPOA, followed by the Czech Republic (53.4 percent) and the Netherlands (43.3 percent).
This rise occurred while, although Western sanctions against Tehran has been lifted, foreign tourists still were (and are) faced with a number of problems, posed by the Western society, for travelling to the Middle Eastern country. For instance, a few while ago, in its post-JCPOA resolution, the US Congress announced that the citizens of those 38 countries whose nationals can usually enter the US without a visa, per the Visa Waiver Program, such as Britain, France and Japan, will require to obtain a visa to be allowed entry to the country, should they have been to Iran once even as a tourist.
Despite such limitations, the ICHTO managed to play host to a large number of Europeans in 2016, in view of the improved atmosphere pervading Iran’s foreign relations in the post-JCPOA era.
