They also underlined their countries’ resolve to develop bilateral relations in all fields.

Iran Sympathizes with US over Las Vegas Shooting

In a statement on Tuesday, Qassemi expressed regret over the ‘heinous’ crime in which hundreds of civilians were killed and wounded.

He also sympathized with the US nation and the relatives of the victims.

At least 59 people were killed and 527 injured in Las Vegas Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on a music festival crowd in what is now the deadliest shooting in modern US history.

The death toll from the incident could possibly go up, said Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg in a press conference Monday afternoon.

The shooter, perched on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, sent more than 22,000 country music fans scrambling for their lives.

Authorities said the suspected gunman — 64-year-old Mesquite, Nevada resident Stephen Paddock — checked into the Mandalay Bay hotel Thursday and brought the numerous firearms found in his room himself.

Two sources familiar with the investigation said there was a combination of rifles and handguns at the scene, and one of the sources said there were 23 weapons in the room. While he used multiple rifles in the attack, it is not yet clear whether he utilized them all, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said in a press conference Monday afternoon, adding that some of the rifles had scope.

During the Tuesday meeting, which was also attended by Qatar’s economy minister, Zarif and the Arab country’s FM discussed bilateral ties with a focus on economic cooperation and the current situation of Persian Gulf littoral states.

Zarif voiced Tehran’s preparedness to have long-term cooperation with Qatar and turn the country into its economic partner.

Sheikh Mohammed, in turn, said he is ready to sign the agreements earlier reached between Tehran and Doha.

He also noted that Qatar plans to develop its economic cooperation with Iran along with the promotion of political ties.

Iran’s Robotic Team Ranks First in AIChE 2017

The robotic team of Amirkabir University, which departed for Barcelona on Thursday, September 29, managed to rank first in the designing section of the competition.

The competition brought together delegations from 23 countries including the US, according to a Farsi report by Mehr New Agency.

Chem-E-Car is an annual college competition for students majoring in Chemical Engineering. This year the competition has been held in two sections. The competitors were required to design and manufacture certain vehicles capable of driving through special routes.

Meanwhile, the vehicles have to carry a certain amount of water set by the organizers. The vehicles drive with a chemical but environment-friendly fuel producing no dangerous gas or liquid. On the other hand, the competitors can’t use any commercial battery in their vehicle.

Organized by the America’s Chemical Association, the event kicked off on September 30 and will last for five days.

Changing Geographical Borders to Increase Insecurity in Mideast: Iran

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar in Tehran on Monday.

Stressing the necessity of strengthening the central governments in Syria and Iraq in order to maintain the two countries’ territorial integrity, facilitate the war on terror and prevent alterations in geographical borders, Rouhani said, “Any change in geographical borders will cause insecurity and instability to spread throughout the region.”

He added that fighting terrorism and safeguarding geographical borders in the region were the most important goals that Iran and Turkey sought to achieve through development of cooperation and bilateral relations.

The Iranian chief executive emphasized that Iran and Turkey, as two important countries and the pillars of stability in the region, could play an influential role in resolving regional issues if they stood by each other.

Mentioning terrorism, insecurity and instability as common threats facing Iran and Turkey in the region, Rouhani said, “To do away with these threats and in line with the common interests [of the two countries], all-out relations and cooperation must further develop between Tehran and Ankara.”

“The armed forces of Iran and Turkey can establish constructive relations in order to repel regional threats through further expansion of cooperation and exchange of experience,” Rouhani pointed out.

For his part, the Turkish chief of general staff said his country respected territorial integrity of all regional countries, including Syria and Iraq, and expressed Ankara’s readiness to develop cooperation with Iran in the fight against terrorism.

Akar arrived in Tehran late Sunday at the invitation of Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri, who visited Ankara in mid-August, the first by an Iranian chief of staff since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The Turkish military official’s trip is taking place ahead of a scheduled visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iran.

Chinese Vessels’ Overfishing Affect Iranian Fishermen’s Livelihoods

Iranian legislator Ahmad Moradi says overfishing by industrial and Chinese vessels in Iran’s southern waters has drawn the ire of local fishermen whose livelihoods have been affected by the practice.

“As fishermen’s livelihoods are directly linked to fishing for marine animals, Chinese ships should not be allowed to affect domestic catch of fish,” said Moradi, who sits on Parliament’s Energy Commission.

According to a Farsi report by ICANA, he said industrial vessels must not be authorized to fish in the country’s coastal waters.

“I feel there are [profiteers getting] rake-offs from fishing by Chinese vessels on the country’s southern coast, and these people have, by cashing in on legal loopholes, arranged overfishing by Chinese ships,” said the MP.

“Traditional fishermen have no way to make a living other than fishing, but industrial ships disrupt local fishermen’s economic situation by catching small and big fish,” the lawmaker noted.

He underlined that industrial ships jeopardize stocks of marine animals by excessive fishing.

“Industrial vessels catch big and small fish using satellite equipment, and under such circumstances, domestic fishermen’s nets don’t deserve to be empty,” he said.

“Overfishing by industrial and Chinese vessels has made [local] fishermen upset. So, in order to support local fishermen, Parliament can pass a law preventing Chinese ships from fishing for marine animals in country’s coastal waters, especially off the coastal towns in the Persian Gulf,” said the lawmaker.

Hajj Pilgrimage Best Opportunity to Foil Anti-Iran Propaganda: Leader

Hajj Pilgrimage Best Opportunity to Foil Anti-Iran Propaganda: Leader

Speaking during a meeting with Iranian officials in charge of the 2017 Hajj in Tehran on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said that there was a very dangerous, active, and well-equipped anti-Iran front.

“The Islamic establishment has enough capacity and capability to stand against and counter this front, and the Hajj opportunity is the best advertisement platform to establish contact with the world’s people and neutralize the other side’s propaganda,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the Riyadh regime’s initiatives to cancel or undermine Iranian ceremonies on the sidelines of the Hajj and said, “Today, in the Muslim world, there are numerous intellectuals who want to hear the truth from the Islamic Republic.”

Thus, he said, those in charge of the Hajj should speak to the audience, with “an effective literature, good tone, and deep reasoning,” about such important issues as “fighting arrogance, exposing the nature of the West, and distancing oneself away from the enemies of Islam.”

With the extent of negative propaganda against Iran, the existence of ambiguities in the minds of ordinary people is “natural,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted, adding, however, that authorities had to remove those ambiguities by establishing contact with people.

Tehran Chamber of Commerce Opens Office in London

Speaking at the inauguration of the office, the head of the TCCIMA, Masoud Khansari, said following the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), more than 200 foreign trade delegations traveled to Iran and the TCCIMA hosted over 60 of them.

He also pointed to recent achievements of Iran in attracting foreign investments, and said, “We have established good relations with a large number of well-known insurers in the world.”

“Last month, more than $30 billion credit lines were given to Iran by South Korea, Austria, China, Denmark,” he said, adding that the figures are likely to increase further.

The head of the TCCIMA also said that according to the latest data released by the European Commission, bilateral trade between Iran and the European Union (EU) over the first six months of 2017 has nearly doubled but Iran expected the figure to increase more than that.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

The comprehensive nuclear deal terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.

However, Iranian officials have complained about the failure of the other side, especially the US, to fully implement the accord, as Iran still has problems in its banking transactions with other countries.

Newspapers also covered the remarks made by a number of Iranian lawmakers who raised the possibility of changing Iran’s system of government to a parliamentary one if OK’d by the Leader. The MPs say they may write a letter to Ayatollah Khamenei, asking him to call for a revision in the Constitution.

Several papers also reported that German manager Winfried Schäfer has been appointed the new head coach of Tehran football giants Esteghlal.
