S. Korea, Germany to Finance Development of Iran’s Electric Trains

S. Korea, Germany to Finance Development of Iran’s Electric Trains

Asghar Fakhrieh-Kashan declared that South Korea will provide funding to construct a double-track railway between Iranian cities of Isfahan in the centre and Ahwaz in the south.

Seven electric locomotives will also be purchased for Tehran-Isfahan route using the funds provided by Germany, he added.

IMNA quoted him in a Farsi report that there was no limit for any of the ministries and departments to use the $55 billion finances approved in the budget.

“Up to now, over $30 billion worth of these funds have been allocated, and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has proposed projects to spend $10 billion to $12 billion of the finances,” added the deputy minister.

He went on to say the ministry has undertaken projects to get $5 billion worth of foreign loan for their implementation. So, we are in the final stages of signing a contract with Russians to receive a 1.2 billion euros funding to run electric trains in Garmsar-Inche Boroun railway. (Garmsar is a small city in the southeast of Tehran and Incheboroun is a border city in the northeast).

“Of course, part of this $5 billion resource will also be allocated to the Ministry of Energy projects,” he noted.

This Iranian officials further mentioned that negotiations on a $500 million loan from Azerbaijan Republic to finance the construction of Rasht-Astara railway in northern are underway.

Fakhrieh-Kashan stated that Iran’s Central Bank has concluded talks with Exim Bank of China to complete Tehran-Mashhad railway project, saying that the same pattern of negotiations and signing contracts would be followed in other projects as well.

“At the moment, we are finalizing a €3 billion financing contract with a specific German company for a specific project, of which €1.7 billion would be allocated to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.”

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development announced the German delegates will visit Iran in the near future to finalize the €3 billion funding.

“Another project is the construction of Chabahar-Zahedan Railway in the southeast, with the participation of the Indians and perhaps the Japanese. In this regard, we have held talks with the Japanese company JICA,” pointed out Fakhrieh-Kashan.

He said in the Chabahar-Zahedan railway project and also for the development of the Makran region, Iran will receive Japan’s $10 billion finances.

“To use Japan’s $10 billion funds, we have proposed that two underground railways would be constructed from Tehran’s northeast to southwest and also northwest to southeast, which has not yet been approved, but the Japanese have expressed interest in joining the $9 billion project.”

He went on to say that this project, which is expected to be launched in seven years, runs an underground exit from Tehran to solve Tehran’s traffic problem forever.

“We have offered to receive Austria’s funding to provide us with rails. The Austrians are one of the world’s leading rail producers and could provide part of our needed rails.”

In response to a question on how much of the $55 billion government finances would be allocated to the Ministry of Road and Urban Development, he said, “Apart from the Tehran underground railway project, the ministry’s share of these funds is about $10-12 billion.”

Russia Ready to Host Talks between Iran, Saudi Arabia

Deputy FM Mikhail Bogdanov says Moscow is willing to mediate in establishing relations between Tehran and Riyadh, and is ready to host the talks between the two sides.

“We tried several times and offered [to help Iran and Saudi Arabia sit down at the negotiating table], but we do not impose our intermediary role,” Bogdanov told reporters, according to Sputnik.

“But we have always told our partners in both Saudi Arabia and Iran that we are ready to provide both a platform for contacts and friendly services.”

Bogdanov added that Moscow has always stressed the need to resolve the issues between Tehran and Riyadh.

“Many problems would have been much easier to resolve had there been mutual understanding and trust between the Islamic Republic and Saudi Arabia,” added Bogdanov.

Bogdanov emphasized that Moscow always tells Tehran and Riyadh that it is ready to report something from one side to another or to organize bilateral contacts. “These proposals remain on the table both with our Saudi and Iranian partners,” he highlighted.

Diplomatic ties between the Islamic Republic and the Arab kingdom were severed in 2016 after Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran, following the execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr in Riyadh.

IRGC Popular in Baghdad, Erbil, Damascus, Beirut: Iran President

Speaking in a cabinet session held on Wednesday in Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani warned the US against making the ‘grave mistake’ of blacklisting the IRGC as a terrorist organization, and underlined its significance in regional fight against terrorism.

“It is totally clear today which government […] is violating the international regulations, and which country is respected by world nations,” Rouhani noted.

“It is totally clear today which government […] is violating the international regulations, and which country is respected by world nations,” Rouhani noted.

“If the US wants to make its next mistake by taking any measure against the IRGC, then that will be a grave mistake,” he noted, adding that the IRGC is not just a military organization, but a body that Iranian people love and has always defended the country’s national interests during days of danger.

“The IRGC is not just popular among the Iranian nation; it is also popular among the Iraqi people because it has saved Baghdad; among the Iraqi Kurds as it has saved Erbil; among the people of Damascus and Syria because it has saved Damascus.”

“It is also loved by the people of Lebanon because it has been a supporter of Lebanon’s dignity and independence. The IRGC has always helped the innocent people and stood against terrorists,” Rouhani added.

“The Americans wanted to keep ISIS in this region for 20 years and use it as an instrument; however, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps humiliated the ISIS by supporting the nations of Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon,” Rouhani said.

Therefore, he added, the US has every right to be angry with the IRGC.

“The Iranian Army, the IRGC, and the Basij [volunteer forces] are not separate from the nation,” the Iranian president said, stressing that there is no difference between various Iranian bodies when it comes to countering enemy plots

“We are all integrated and standing in the same line,” he underlined, adding that the resistant nation of Iran will stand against plots.

Iran Offering Latest Telecom Achievements at GITEX 2017

Hamid HoushyarifarWhat follows are highlights of an interview with the CEO of MAPFA, Hamid Houshyarifar:

MAPFA has been working on telecommunications software systems since 2010. Since 2003, it started working as a programming team and has managed to perform large projects for Iranian organizations. In 2008, MAPFA established the first-generation SDP platform that had the capacity to send 500 messages per second. Now the company is ten years old and has increased its capacity to 1,000 messages per second which proves our full technical and processing capabilities.

MAPFA Corporation has been endeavouring to export its software since 2016. Thank God, in the same year, we could sign a contract with Etisalat Telecommunications Company and launch Afghanistan’s Etisalat actually as the first phase of this SDP project.

At present, nearly 80 people work for the company and are busy in various departments of system and maintenance support. In the field of telecommunications software and operational SDP, MAPFA is the only company in possession of such technical knowledge inside the country and also the Middle East.

All the software systems of this company are produced by Iranian technicians and we have not used any foreign technology or received any help from foreign companies.

MAPFA has great capabilities to compete in this field across the region, but there are a lot of problems in the export of our software. Of course, with the assistance of the government and lifting of sanctions, some barriers have been removed, but there are still many problems.

For example, two years ago, MAPFA won two first-rate international bids in Zimbabwe by offering first-rate technical services and low prices, but due to the impossibility of issuing a bank guarantee, our company was practically removed from the list.

GITEX is one of the greatest exhibitions in the Middle East and the region, and is a great place to offer the capabilities of domestic companies. The objective of MAPFA is to attract new customers at GITEX 2017, but it also welcomes any partnership in manufacturing of products or supplements that complete the value-added-services’ delivery cycle.

Given that Iran is has the largest operator in the Middle East, MAPFA can use its experience to generate income and create employment in the neighbouring countries.

MAPFA is seeking to rank among the top five telecom software companies. Thank God, we have been doing well in the Middle East, but our main rivals are the Indians, Europeans, and the Chinese companies, which I hope we will surpass them soon.

The issue of Iran nuclear deal, also known as JCPOA, has remained a top story in Iranian newspapers amid the recent verdict issued for a former member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team, the US stonewalling in JCPOA implementation, and the possibility of Trump’s withdrawal from the deal.

On Wednesday, several papers tried to predict Trump’s decision about his new Iran strategy and provide suggestions for Iran’s possible reaction to the US violation of the nuclear deal.

The conservative paper Kayhan, in its op-ed, said the US president is trying to intensify anti-Iran sanctions and deprive it of JCPOA benefits while keeping the nuclear deal.

Reformist papers also tried to introduce Abdol-Rasoul Dorri Esfahani, the former member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team sentenced to 5 years in prison for espionage, as someone unrelated to the Foreign Ministry’s negotiating team.

Also on domestic issues, newspapers continued to warn about the increase in dollar rate and the country’s economic situation, while also releasing reports on the possibility of a change in Iran’s Constitution.

Top Iranian, Egyptian Officials Discuss Bilateral, Regional Issues

Top Iranian, Egyptian Officials Discuss Bilateral, Regional Issues

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the special aide to the Iranian Parliament speaker for international affairs, sat down on Tuesday with head of the Egyptian Interest Section in Tehran Yasser Osman.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed regional questions as well as key issues of mutual interest regarding bilateral parliamentary ties.

According to a Farsi report by ICANA, the latest regional developments also came up for discussion during the meeting.

Iran and Egypt have held no diplomatic ties since 1980 when Cairo offered asylum to the former shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and maintained peace treaties with Israel.

However, in recent years Tehran has voiced its preparedness to restore its relations with Cairo in case a set of conditions are prepared in both capitals.

Tehran Hosting Exhibition Showcasing Seven Decades of Iranian Paintings

Tehran Hosting Exhibition Showcasing Seven Decades of Iranian PaintingsThe director of this exhibition, Rozita Sharaf-Jahan, said, “This exhibition focuses mostly on nature and landscape paintings in the past seventy years of Iranian art history.”

“Most of the exhibitions by the Iranian Painters Association are of a research nature and raise issues of the day that are not commercial,” she added, according to a Farsi report by IRNA.

“What matters in this exhibition are the views of critics, historians, painters, and art students. Given that the Association of Painters is an independent one and does not have a treasure gallery, collecting these works was a very tough job.”

“In the works of contemporary artists, there is a greater focus on landscape that has been crystallized in form of anxiety, worry and bitterness. In Iran, at a short period of time, Kamal-ol-molk and his students studied the landscape independently, but in the contemporary era, this process has changed,” noted Sharaf-Jahan.

“Considering the large volume of works, we tried to display the most prominent works of each period; works by pre-modern artists such as Ali Mohammad Heydarian, Ali Asghar Potgar and Ali Akbar San’ati, as well as works by the first generation of modernists to high modernist painters, such as Mohsen Vaziri-Moqaddam, Mahmoud Javadipour, and Ahmad Esfandiari, Behjat Sadr, Sohrab Sepehri, Manouchehr Yektai, Marcos Grigorian, Abolqassem Saeedi, and Kurosh Shishehgaran.”

“I believe that the last generation and the younger ones are the most important ones because there is a significant difference between their view of landscape and those belonging to the past decades,” she underlined.

Sharaf-Jahan went on to say that some of the works are loaned and not for sale, but a number of others are for sale, most of which are paintings. She said the photos taken by two artists, next to nine videos will also be displayed during the event.

“Moreover, a book collection of works displayed will be published during the days the event is underway,” said Sharaf-Jahan.

Here are Honar Online’s photos of the exhibition “Landscape Up Close: A Review of 70 Years of Landscape Painting in Iran”, which was kicked off on October 6 and will be underway until October 27 at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Centre:

Renault Company Starts Buying Iranian Tyres

With the improvement of the quality of Iranian tyres, and achievement of world-class standards next to the use of Dutch Vredestein Company’s technology by Iran’s Yazd Tyre Corporation, 50,000 of the company’s products were purchased by Renault Algérie with the approval of Renault Headquarters in France.

The quality of the Iranian tyres and their potential to compete with the Korean and Japanese products has helped the Iranian-made tyres enter the foreign markets.

According to a Farsi report by Akhbar-e Khodro, high standards and the use of Vredestein’s technology by Yazd Tire, has given credit to the Iranian tyre industry across the world.

Mohammad Reza Ganji, the CEO of Iran Tyre Association, says, “Since tyre manufacturing for foreign automobile companies will improve the country’s industry, Renault, which is one of Europe’s largest carmakers, has signed a contract with one of the domestic tyre manufacturers to confirm the quality and standard of these Iranian-made tyres. Renault intends to use Iranian tyres in its products.”

“With the approval of the quality of Iranian tyres by Renault, the company has called on all its subsidiaries in other countries to include tyres made by Iran in their list at the time of purchase. Accordingly, the Renault Algérie has bought about 50,000 Iranian tyres and used it for the vehicles it produces,” Ganji added.

He added that Yazd Tyre is now holding negotiations with Volkswagen, which has recently entered Iran’s market.

“As we are selling our products to foreign automobile manufacturers, Volkswagen which has just entered Iran’s market held talks to use these tyres in its cars. This German automobile maker is supposed to confirm the quality and standards of the Iranian tyres.”

“According to a governmental decree in 2012, tyre exports was stopped, and as a result our export market was gradually lost, but due to the good quality of Yazd Tyre’s products, the Chinese, in order to seize the market from Iran, exported tyres bearing the name of Iranian brands to markets in Nigeria and African countries,” concluded Ganji.

‘Trump; A Wise Guy Pretending to Be Stupid’

trump

Hossein Shariatmadari, the managing editor of conservative Iranian daily Kayhan, in an article on Tuesday said Trump is actually a wise guy who pretends to be stupid.

What follows are highlights of his article:

Since November 2016, when Donald Trump was elected as the President of the United States, a suspicious movement in the US and Europe insisted on introducing him as a full-fledged stupid person who has unexpectedly become the US president! A group of others inside our own country (Iran) are approving them, saying that the president of the United States is a stupid, dangerous and unpredictable politician. They conclude that the Islamic Republic should avoid challenging and confronting him, because at any moment, Trump could take an extreme measure and adopt a disastrous decision against our country!

But is Trump, as alleged, a full-fledged stupid person?

Two weeks ago, the American Axios news website reported a meeting between leading US officials at the White House, at which Secretary of Defence James Mattis, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and the United States’ Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer attended. The agenda of this meeting was to take a decision over Washington’s continuing or leaving the US trade agreement with South Korea. At the meeting, Donald Trump tells the Trade Representative that during the negotiations with the other side he must tell them Trump is stupid and he may withdraw from the deal at any moment!

The fact is that Trump has not accidentally become the US President overnight. This comes as some try to introduce him as an exception in the diplomatic history of the United States! He has passed a multi-stage selection process by the Republican Party of America. Donald Trump was the nominee of the US Republicans and has been selected and introduced in a multi-stage process. So it is very childish to imagine that a stupid person could pass through all multiple filters of the party and be introduced as the final candidate. It is noteworthy that several prominent Republican officials, who have been involved in the selection of Trump, also called him stupid. Why?!

Those who introduce Trump as a stupid person, and based on this conclude that we need to tolerate him, should answer this question: Which of the measures taken by Trump since he took office were against the benefits of the United States, or in other words were not a form of bullying or extortion?!

If he is stupid, he must have taken at least one decision against the interests of the Americans.

The numerous evidence mentioned leaves little doubt that the claim to present Trump as a stupid person is a trick to intimidate US counterparties, and as Axios has revealed, he is created to gain further concessions from others.

Today, there exists a serious concern that the above-mentioned movement (inside Iran) may be tricked by the US to introduce Trump as a crazy person as well, and believe the claim on his silliness, to prepare the ground for something similar to what we saw during the nuclear talks. With a justification that the other side is a full-fledged stupid person they should not surrender to US bullying and extortions. However, the importance of the recent strategic stance of the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) can be understood clearly at this point.

A few days ago, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the chief-commander of the IRGC, warned the United States that if the Revolution Guards are placed on the list of terrorist groups, the IRGC would treat the US military as a terrorist group like ISIS.

Trump must pay for his pretensions of being stupid. He has repeatedly witnessed that the IRGC never makes false claims and keeps its pledge. In case the US army replaces ISIS, there would be basically no reason to let it escape hard-hitting punishments like those suffered by ISIS.
