Iran Rules Out Europe’s Call for Talks on Missile Program

Speaking on the sidelines of his meeting with France’ special envoy for Syria, Velayati said the Western sides should be more careful about their remarks.

“When they say we accept the nuclear deal, but we must discuss the regional issues and the Iranian missile program, this means they are imposing conditions on the nuclear accord, and it by no means is acceptable to us,” underlined Velayati.

“There is no condition for the JCPOA, and it should be implemented as agreed between Iran and the P5+1.”

He went on to say that “we have been present in this region and we have the right to cooperate with our neighbours, with whom we have many commonalities.”

He further added that “the Europeans and Americans do not have the right to comment on our presence or non-presence in the region and say what each country must do!”

Earlier on Tuesday, a senior member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, had also noted that the Republicans, Democrats, the Congress, the US Senate, and even the European Union are all alike and not trustworthy.

“If the European Union is to choose between Iran and the United States, it will surely take the US side,” stressed the senior Iranian cleric.

Khatami also called on the Iranian government officials not to lead people to fall in the EU’s trap this time.

Security Restored to Kirkuk under Iraqi Forces’ Control

Police have called on the residents, who had fled in their thousands for fear of a potential armed confrontation, to return, giving assurances that the situation is stable.

The city is now under a night-time curfew.

Government buildings, oil fields retaken

Iraq’s Alforat news agency also said army forces were now in control of all of the city’s government buildings, state-owned North Oil and North Gas companies, the Kirkuk International Airport, and K-1 Airbase.

Cited by Reuters, an Iraqi army officer said government forces had also taken control of all oilfields operated by the North Oil Company in the province.

Government troops have also reopened the highway linking the Kirkuk City and the capital Baghdad, Iraq’s al-Sumariyah television network reported.

Kurdish forces have been holding parts of Iraqi territory since 2014, when Daesh began an offensive across Iraq and the Kurds began fighting it and overrunning territory in the process.

The Baghdad government has long insisted that the Kurds pull out of the territories they had overrun. But the Kurdish militants have refused. Ever since a controversial referendum on secession in Iraqi Kurdistan on September 25, the Iraqi government has lost patience, sending security forces to retake Kurdish-held areas.

Baghdad also ordered the Kurdistan region to swiftly hand over its border crossings and airports. The region refused and later sent thousands of Peshmerga and other militants to Kirkuk Province, which it has been claiming in its entirety for long.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has ordered that national flags be hoisted on public buildings in all of Kirkuk’s neighborhoods.

Crowds on the streets of Kirkuk’s southern outskirts welcomed army forces as they entered the city.

The Peshmerga have called the takeover “a flagrant declaration of war” and vowed that Iraq will pay a “heavy price.”

Kurds retreat before Iraqi forces start op. near Iran border

Meanwhile, Kurdish Peshmerga forces pulled out from the area of Khanaqin, on the border with Iran, as Iraqi forces prepared to take over their positions, security sources said.

A small oil field, Khana, is located in the area.

Iraqi forces take control of Sinjar, other towns

Meanwhile, Iraqi army and Hashd al-Sha’bi forces have taken control of the city of Sinjar in Nineveh Province following a pullout by Kurdish militants.

Government forces took control of all of Sinjar on Tuesday after the withdrawal a day earlier of Kurdish Peshmerga militants.

The Peshmerga militants also left the towns of Bashiqa and Bahzani in Nineveh.

Kurds clash with police in London

Separately, Kurdish separatists have clashed with police in front of Iraq’s Embassy in London.

Iraq’s Foreign Ministry reacted by saying that the protesters had engaged in “criminal” activity and demanding that the UK investigate them.

‘Iran closes Kurdistan border crossing’

Following the referendum, Iraq demanded neighbors Iran and Turkey to close their respective borders with Kurdistan.

Iran closed its airspace with Iraqi Kurdistan at the time, and on Monday, Faramarz Akbari, the governor of Qasr-e-Shirin, said Iran had since a day earlier temporarily closed its Parviz Khan Border Crossing in Kermanshah Province, which borders Iraq’s Kurdistan.

He said it would likely remain closed until Iraqi security forces replace the Kurdish militants on the borders.

This is the first time an Iranian official has confirmed the closure of a land border with Iraq’s Kurdish region.

US Firms Can Do Business with Iran If Trump Allows Them to: Minister

Zanganeh

Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Tuesday, “Why is Mr Trump upset that Europeans are earning money from doing business with Iran? Why is he preventing US companies (from working with Tehran)?”

US companies can come to Iran and make profit so as to make Trump pleased, he noted, adding that the Americans themselves are preventing their partnership with Iran.

“There is no need for Trump to be so much worried,” he added, according to Mehr News.

“If they want to, we are ready to negotiate with American companies about development of oil and gas resources.”

“We have not closed doors” to American companies,” he was quoted as saying by media outlets.

His comments came as US companies are still barred from directly doing business with Iran. That is despite the fact that the 2015 nuclear deal is in place.

Trump last week refused to re-certify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal with world powers, and criticized Europeans for their participation in Iran’s energy projects. French oil giant Total SA has entered the Iranian market following the deal.

ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi says a number of Iranian websites have come under attack on Monday night.

“The (sources of) attacks have been identified and their scope has been controlled,” the Azad News Agency (ANA) quoted him as saying in a Farsi report.

“Fortunately, the attacks were foiled and controlled; however, we need to be more vigilant,” he wrote on his twitter account.

He further dismissed the claims about Iran’s cyber-attacks on other countries, saying “the more powerful we become, the more attacks we suffer.”

Azari Jahromi also emphasised that security of cyberspace and the preservation of cyber-assets of the country is very important, saying that training of up to 10,000 cyber security personnel is on the agenda for the next four years.

He added that training these people will be provided at special centres in universities across the country.

Historic Seminary at Heart of Ancient Iranian City

The religious school was built in the Safavid era with the efforts of Mir Ali Beyk. It has a library, two porches in the eastern and western sides, a mosque, yard and some camarillas in its sides. This school also has four terraces which are located at the entrance axis in the southern and northern sides.

Before the 1968 earthquakes in Ferdows, seminary students used to attend their classes in this place.

Here are IRNA’s photos of the historic school, which is now registered as a national cultural heritage:

Iran, Russia Clinch Deal on Financing Projects

EXIAR

The Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance (EXIAR) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on financing, reports the Persian-language Mehr News Agency.

That came in a meeting between Iranian Central Bank Governor Ahmad Araqchi, and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EXIAR Alexey Tyupanov.

In the meeting, the Iranian official expressed satisfaction with the promotion of relations between the two countries, and called for expediting the financing of the projects between the two sides.

“We are pleased that talks on financing contracts have borne fruit, and we hope the cooperation will further expand,” said the top Iranian official.

The CEO of EXIAR, in turn, said he was happy to see the negotiations had come to fruition.

“We hope different projects run by the Iranian public and private sectors will soon be able to use financing facilities by Russian banks, which will set the stage for further expansion of economic ties between the two sides,” said the top Russian manager.

In the meeting, the two sides also agreed on the generalities of conditions for financing between Iranian and Russian banks. As agreed, Iranian banks will be able to apply for financing facilities by Russian banks to use them for the projects they are authorized to run.

Also, the financing facilities received from Russian banks will be used for public and private sectors and different industries which take priority as confirmed by relevant bodies.

Moreover, a general contract on financing will soon be signed by Iranian and Russian banks.

Iran Has No Role in Kirkuk Operation: Leader’s Aide

“Iran has no role in Kirkuk operation and most Iraqi Kurdish people are opposed to [KRG president] Masoud Barzani’s ambitions,” Velayati told reporters on Tuesday after a meeting with France’s special envoy for Syria.

“We saw that almost without any conflicts the region came under the control of Iraqi central government. Barzani must realise and admit that he has made a mistake.”

Referring to the role the United States plays in disintegration of Iraq, he said the Americans built a military base in Syria seeking the breakdown of the government. He sarcastically concluded that if they succeed in disintegrating Iraq, they will succeed in Syria too.

‘Trump Practicing Magic Trick on Iran Nuclear Deal’

Jame Jam newspaper, in a report published a couple of days ago, has weighed in on the latest anti-Iran rhetoric by US President Donald Trump and the objectives behind the remarks. In this report, the newspaper claims the US and the European Union have jointly hatched a plot to change the grounds for achieving further economic gains from Iran’s lucrative market following the lifting of sanctions as per the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

What follows are excerpts of the article:

The Art of Distraction

Professional jugglers have a trick named the art of distraction. Through this trick, they deceive their audience by distracting their attentions from the main part of the juggling operation.

Now Trump’s recent speech made after weeks of media hype over its content seems to be a trick by him to distract the global attentions from an important point. A review of the reactions pouring in to the US’s new strategy towards Iran nuclear deal reveals that he has managed to distract the world from a main point: Behind the scene cooperation between the US and the EU to change the JCPOA in their own interests.

Trump made his main point not during his speech, but 30 minutes after it in an address to the White House reporters; however, this point was not noticed in Iran.

Following his anti-Iran speech, Trump addressed reporters in the White House and in response to a question on his talks with his European partners, he replied the Europeans want him not to pull out of the JCPOA.

Trump said he told his ‘friends’ Macron and May to ‘take all the money you can get’ from Iran and ‘don’t worry’ about US sanctions. According to Trump, the Europeans make the most profit from the huge money Iran spends in other countries.

“Emmanuel Macron called up and he talked to me. And I said, look, Emmanuel, they just gave Renault a lot of money. Take their money; enjoy yourselves,” Trump said. He was making reference to the French car manufacturer Renault’s $780 million agreement with Tehran.

If the JCPOA is implemented completely, Iran will be the economic winner of the deal because it will have the upper hand against the interested European investors. So, Iran can set the conditions for the investors and decide which interested investors enter the country first. This means that the Europeans’ plan for investment in Iran may not come true as they expected.

To change the grounds based on their own interests, the EU and the US have adopted a smart strategy consisting of sanctions and threats to not only limit Iran’s military power but also take the most advantage of the JCPOA economic opportunities.

Despite its commitments under the JCPOA, the US is indirectly warning its economic partners against establishing any economic relations with Iran. The new strategy will dissuade international companies from investing in Iran.

Under such circumstances, the companies that dare to invest in Iran will have the upper hand in talks with the Iranian government because they can set conditions for Iran and expect Tehran to accept their conditions under pressure from the US.

Meanwhile, Iran will praise the Europeans for their courage to defy US pressure. A brief review of the lucrative oil deals signed between Iran and French company Total as well as French carmakers and other deals signed with the German and British companies raises a question: why are the Europeans happy with the current situation?
