Pilgrims Visit Imam Khomeini’s House in Iraq’s Najaf

Arba’een, which marks the anniversary of fortieth day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions, is the time when millions of Shiite pilgrims gather in the city of Najaf and start their trek towards the city of Karbala on foot.

This year, before embarking on their walk, many pilgrims visited the house where Imam Khomeini used to live when he was in exile before the 1979 Revolution.

Here are Mehr News Agency’s photos of this house:

Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Iran Claims in Violation of UN Charter: Zarif

Speaking in a Tuesday phone conversation with Britain’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Zarif lashed out at Saudi Arabia for its provocative moves in the region.

He also rejected the false and dangerous claims raised by Saudi officials, and stressed that such allegations are against international laws and the UN charter.

Zarif and Johnson also conferred on bilateral ties between Tehran and London as well as regional and international issues.

The Iranian top diplomat’s comments came after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman accused Iran of “direct military aggression” which could be an “act of war.”

Saudi air defence forces intercepted a ballistic missile on Saturday fired toward the capital, Riyadh, from across the border in Yemen. The Kingdom’s officials are accusing Iran of supplying the missiles to Yemen’s Houthi fighters, while Iran denies such allegations.

‘Hariri Had No Plan for Resignation When Meeting Iran Envoy’

Hossein Sheikholeslam, a senior advisor to Iran’s foreign minister, says the rude and unwise statements made by Hariri immediately after the announcement of his resignation were in line with the same policy to create tension in order to undermine the internal stability of Lebanon.

“Saad Hariri’s resignation on Saturday attracted the attention of all regional and international media. Hariri announced his resignation not in Lebanon, but in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and in a televised speech he spoke out against Iran’s policies in the Middle East. Hariri could at least maintain the historical dignity of the great Lebanese people to announce his resignation on his own land since the announcement of resignation in Saudi Arabia is a very humiliating act.”

In a Farsi piece published in Hamshahri newspaper, Sheikholeslam said that, in practice, the young Hariri showed he has not inherited any wisdom and rationality from his father, Rafic Hariri.

“The current situation in our region shows the policy of the United States and its regional allies, including Mohammed bin Salman, to create tension and instability in the regional countries has failed, and now they are trying to create tension in other ways.”

Sheikholeslam also noted that Hariri’s Saturday move was, in fact, part of this new plan, and on this basis, it can be said that Hariri has sacrificed the interests and security of the Lebanese people for Trump’s plots.

“Undoubtedly, the top priority of the US foreign policy in the Middle East is to create insecurity and chaos to milk the regional states and sell its weapons to the wealthy countries so as to accomplish economic goals inside the United States.”

“From this perspective, the establishment and maintenance of regional stability, which is the goal of the peoples and popular governments in the region, is being assessed as contrary to the US strategies. On the other hand, and in addition to all these facts, there are several indications that Saad Hariri’s resignation has been dictated to him,” he went on to say.

This Iranian advisor also pointed out that if Hariri was prepared for such a decision and also his anti-Iran positions, basically there would be no reason for him to hold a meeting with Iran’s Velayati in Beirut.

Removing US Dollar from Int’l Transactions to Facilitate Banking Ties: Iran

Iranian MP Ezatollah Yousefian Molla said since the contracts and deals between Iran and the European countries are in US dollars, and Iran is under banking sanctions, there are a lot of problems that incur costs in banking ties.

“Therefore, if the dollar is removed from international transactions in Iran, the banking problems will be resolved and the speed of dealings will increase,” he told ICANA in a Farsi interview.

He further mentioned that if, for example, transactions between Iran and Russia are made using the Iranian rial or the Russian ruble, then it actually means the money will be exchanged between domestic banks, but this will be difficult when we start transactions with a third country.

Another Iranian legislator also mentioned that monetary agreements with neighbouring countries reduce the influence of Western currencies.

Mohammad Hossein Farhanghi said agreements are reached with Turkey to use national currencies in transactions, and in the next steps the process will be continued with countries like Russia and other neighbouring countries, such as Azerbaijan Republic.

The comments came after the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tehran called for cooperation to counter US sanctions against Iran and Russia, saying that “without paying heed to the negative propaganda of the enemies to undermine the relations between countries, we can counter US sanctions by methods like eliminating the dollar and replacing the national currency in bilateral or multilateral economic transactions.”

Visits to Saudi Arabia Hazardous to Regional Health: Iran FM

“Visits to the belligerent Saudi Arabia have proved hazardous to regional health. Trump’s visit led to Bahrain repression followed by Qatar debacle,” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a Monday tweet.

“Visits by [Trump’s son-in-law] Kushner and Lebanese Prime Minister led to Hariri’s bizarre resignation while abroad. Of course, Iran is accused of interference,” he went on to say.

“Saudi Arabia bombs Yemen to smithereens, killing thousands of innocents including babies, spreads cholera and famine, but of course blames Iran,” Zarif added.

He also noted that “Riyadh is engaged in wars of aggression, regional bullying, destabilizing behaviour and risky provocations. It blames Iran for the consequences.”

Iran President Blames World Powers for Causing Rift between Muslims

“[These] powers are not interested in unity and brotherly [ties] among Muslims, because if such unity and brotherhood is promoted, Muslim countries will undoubtedly be able to solve their problems without the involvement of others,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa in Tehran on Monday.

He added that Iran-Pakistan cooperation could prepare the ground for reinforcing unity among Muslim countries.

“Our goal is to strengthen relationships among Muslim countries and there is no doubt that differences among Muslim countries can be settled through dialogue,” the Iranian chief executive pointed out.

Rouhani also welcomed the expansion of defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad in order to boost regional stability and security, saying that the Islamic Republic was determined to have cordial and strong relations with neighboring countries, including Pakistan.

Pakistan keen to boost defense, military ties with Iran: Bajwa

The Pakistani chief of army staff, for his part, commended deep-rooted mutual relations between Tehran and Islamabad and said his country was keen to improve defense and military ties with Iran in parallel with political and economic cooperation.

Bajwa added that divisions among Muslim countries must be settled through dialogue and emphasized that Western countries must not be allowed to foment discord with the purpose of selling arms to regional countries.

Iran President Hails Election of New Zealand’s New PM

rouhani-Jacinda Ardern

In his Tuesday message, Rouhani “sincerely” congratulated Ardern’s election as the new Prime Minister of New Zealand, and wished her success in carrying out the “important responsibility”.

“Given the political will and efforts of the high-ranking officials of the two countries, I hope bilateral relations between Tehran and Wellington would further develop.”

The Iranian president also wished health and success for Ardern and prosperity and felicity for the people of New Zealand.

On 19 October 2017, New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters announced that his party would form a coalition with Labour, making Ardern the next Prime Minister, and the second youngest in New Zealand’s history.
