Iran Mulling Over Plans to Promote Tourism Capacities of Tabriz

Blue Mosque of Tabriz, Iran

The city has been nominated as the capital of Islamic tourism in 2018.

One of the programs includes an agreement with Turkish Airlines to publicize the city’s tourism in all its flights and in travel agencies cooperating with the airline worldwide.

Speaking at a meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming event, Mohammad Moheb-Khodaei, tourism deputy at ICHHTO, said Turkey’s national flag carrier could act as Iran’s link to international platforms.

Using the potentials of Iranians living abroad is also among other programs.

“Arrangements have been made to reward Iranians who bring in five foreign tourists [to Tabriz] with a free travel ticket to Iran,” he said.

The official did not elaborate on the scheme’s mechanisms.

Reportedly, some 5 million Iranian expatriates are living all over the world, among which around 130,000 are from East and West Azarbaijan provinces.

Various festivals, including carpet sales and art and cultural programs, will be held to mark the event.

Moheb-Khodaei argued that tourism authorities believe the industry’s shortcomings will be addressed solely by strengthening travel infrastructures.

“We should include more national and international festivals in the city’s calendar to globally introduce its valuable art and ancient culture,” he said.

Based on plans, Tabriz Bazaar, a historical market, which is one of the oldest in the Middle East and the largest covered marketplace in the world, will continue its trading operations.

Moheb-Khodaei regretted that although on a par in terms of history and art, tourism in Tabriz lags far behind that of Isfahan.

Officials believe the occasion should bring about a leap in tourism industry so efforts should be focused on making the best of the opportunity in the fast-approaching year.

Reportedly, the government has allocated 7.7 trillion rials ($203 million) to 22 organizations for implementing projects related to Tabriz 2018.

Tabriz Municipality has also allocated 2.6 trillion rials ($69 million) to the cause. Besides, related bodies are obligated to earmark 10% of their budget for the event.

No Student Regrets Taking Over US Embassy in Tehran: Spokeswoman

US Embassy Seizure

“Back in 1979, taking over the US embassy in Tehran seemed the best choice and the students managed to prevent many damages by revealing the evil plots of the US government in Iran,” Ebtekar was quoted as saying on Saturday in a Farsi interview with Khabar Online.

She went on saying the students took over the embassy as a pre-emptive measure against a US plan to mount a coup in Iran.

“We did what WikiLeaks is doing today, that is revealing the secret documents of the US embassies in the world. In my book, Takeover in Tehran, I’ve explained in details what we made during the embassy seizure,” she said.

Ebtekar, who is now the Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs, went on saying during the takeover, which lasted for 444 days, many international and US delegations were allowed to visit Tehran and hold talks with the US embassy staff.

“In the early years of the Islamic Revolution, we didn’t have any constitution and the country lacked many of its legal institutes like parliament. So, we had an unstable condition.”

As one of the students who took part in the US embassy takeover in Tehran, Ebtekar also said the students thought the takeover would put an end to the US meddling in the country’s internal affairs.

“Since the takeover of the US embassy, we have seen at least 70 cases of the US interference in Iran from civilian to military. Meanwhile, US meddling in other countries’ affairs is not secret any more. We also had the experience of the US coup against our democratic government back in the 1950s,” she noted.

The Iranian politician, who was known as Sister Mary in the time of Iran Hostage Crisis, said today none of the students who took part in the takeover operation regrets being involved in it. “They may now confess to some negative consequences of the takeover but no one regrets about the whole operation.”

Ebtekar

Ebtekar stressed that the US is interested in promoting this cliché that the takeover of the embassy is the source of all the problems that Iran is now suffering from. “The takeover just prevented the US from meddling in our country’s affairs.”

She rejected any similarity between the takeover of the US embassy in 1979 and those of the Saudi Arabia and the UK embassies in Tehran in recent years and added the takeover of the US embassy was a massive popular move.

“The takeover of Saudi Arabia and the British embassies in Tehran in the past few years were totally wrong and inflicted heavy blows on our country. Such incidents tarnished our image across the world,” she emphasized.

The Iranian vice president also referred to the US meddling in the regional states like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen and said today the US has established hundreds of military bases around Iran and threatens the whole region. “I don’t say our takeover had no bad consequence but its overall affect was positive.”

In response to a question on whether or not Iraq’s war on Iran in the 1980s can be categorized as one of the consequences of the US embassy takeover in Iran, she replied the war had nothing to do with the embassy takeover “because Saddam had decided to attack Iran earlier and was just waiting for a good opportunity.”

Lebanese PM Hariri Resigns, Attacks Iran While in Saudi Arabia

Hariri-1

In a move that seems to be influenced by his meeting with Saudi Arabian officials, Hariri announced an unexpected resignation in a televised address on Saturday.

The 33rd prime minister of Lebanon said that he fears there’s a “plot to target his life,” according to local media.

Hariri claimed that the atmosphere in Lebanon resembles that before the assassination of his father, former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, who was killed in 2005.

The politician pointed out he “sensed what is being plotted covertly to target my life,” according to Reuters.

Hariri also lashed out at Iran and its ally the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah, accusing the Islamic Republic of interfering in other countries’ affairs.

“Iran’s hands in the region will be cut off,” he further claimed.

Hariri’s extremely close ties to Saudi Arabia and his resignation in such a way reminds one of Mansour Hadi, the fugitive ex-president of Yemen who is trying to retake his office with the help of Riyadh’s deadly airstrikes on Yemenis.

What makes Hariri’s unexpected resignation even weirder is that earlier on Friday he held a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior international advisor to the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, in Beirut.

During the meeting, Hariri offered a warm welcome to Velayati, saying that “we are faced with serious challenges from the terrorists, extremists and the Takfiri currents. We must do our best to stand against them to achieve victory.”

Hariri also referred to the developments in Lebanon and added “despite some differences, stability and security has been provided in Lebanon, and all the groups are collaborating to promote it.”

Velayati, for his part, stressed that Lebanon’s victory against terrorism is a victory for all the region, adding that “Lebanon and Iran’s relations have always been very good and constantly growing, and the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the stability of Lebanon.”

US Claim of Iran Ties with Al-Qaeda Aimed at Appeasing Saudis: FM

“A record low for the reach of petrodollars: CIA & FDD fake news w/ selective al-Qaeda docs re: Iran can’t whitewash role of US allies in 9/11,” Zarif said in a Twitter message on Thursday.

The allegations of “secret dealings” are based on a newly released trove of documents allegedly recovered from Osama bin Laden’s Pakistan compound during the 2011 raid that killed the Al-Qaeda leader.

Wednesday’s release came at a time when US President Donald Trump has decertified a nuclear deal negotiated by his predecessor Barack Obama and signed with other major powers to curb Tehran’s nuclear program in return for the easing of international sanctions.

The 19-page report, dated 2007, was first published by the Long War Journal, a publication backed by the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a think tank fiercely critical of Iran and its nuclear agreement with major powers.

In what it claims to be a history of Al-Qaeda’s relationship with Iran, the report alleges Tehran offered Al-Qaeda fighters “money and arms and everything they need, and offered them training in Hezbollah camps in Lebanon, in return for striking American interests in Saudi Arabia.”

Trump has described the 2015 nuclear accord as the “worst deal ever made” and is keen to undermine the Islamic Republic by making several unfounded allegations.

The fabricated documents could be seized upon by the hawkish Republican, whose administration is struggling to contain Tehran’s role in the Middle East, in collaboration with Iran’s regional arch-rival Saudi Arabia.

Ironic Situation

However, ironically, the petrodollars of Saudi Arabia and its allies, like Egypt and the UAE, funded attacks in the past by major terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda, against the United States and other western countries over the past couple of decades.

Out of 19 hijackers, who slammed two planes into twin towers of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, 15 were identified as Saudi nationals.

A redacted long-classified report released by the US Congress in July 2016 found that some of the 9/11 hijackers were in contact with and received support from individuals likely connected to the Saudi government.

Known as the “28 pages”, the secret document was part of a 2002 Congressional Joint Inquiry into the Sept. 11 attacks.

Despite his initial hard stance on Riyadh during his election campaign for presidency last year, Trump has turned a blind eye on the oil-rich kingdom’s role in the 9/11 disaster and has gone so far as to sign arms deals worth hundreds of billions of dollars with the Arab country.

Iran Uses Balloon to Provide Internet Access for Arba’een Pilgrims

Balloon

Every year millions of Shiite pilgrim head to the holy shrine of the third Shiite Imam, Hussein ibn Ali (AS), in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala on the anniversary of the fortieth day after his martyrdom on the Day of Ashura.

The pilgrims use several border crossings to join the annual Arba’een Walk. This year, the Iranian government has deployed a balloon in Mehran border crossing to provide the pilgrims with free access to the Internet.

According to a Farsi report by Fars News Agency, the project is being launched in cooperation with the Space Research Institute and the Directorate General for Communications and Information Technology of Ilam province in west of Iran.

Abbas Beirami, Director General for Communications and Information Technology of Ilam province, said in an interview with Fars that the project was tested on Friday and will become operational Saturday, November 4.

The balloon would be located at a height of 500 metres. In this project, a radio transmitter is installed in the city of Mehran and the balloon is deployed in the border area.

“The bandwidth provided by the infrastructure is sent by the transmitter to the balloon, and provides free Wi-Fi Internet Access to the users without a password in the area bellow the balloon,” added Beirami.

He further noted that in the event of atmospheric events, such as severe winds or a certain event such as being on the path of a chopper, the balloon would be temporarily grounded and then sent into the orbit again.

“The Internet balloon has a 100 MB input bandwidth, which is considered to be responsive given that its users are passing by and are not resident in the area. According to the plan, if the traffic increases in the coming days, the bandwidth would be increased.”

“If the project succeeds, next year it will be undertaken on other border crossings as well,” Beirami went on to say.

According to this official, the project was supposed to become operational last year, but due to non-technical reasons it was implemented incompletely. In general, the use of balloons depends on weather conditions, and if the weather conditions are favorable, it could be operational.

The latest data released by the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology indicates a special emphasis on the expansion of Internet bandwidth and increasing the number of households that have access to the Internet.

Toyota Reminded of Its Complicity with ISIS Terrorists

Toyota ISIS

Toyota Motor Corporation entered Iran’s vehicle market in mid 1970s and its Corona and Carina models were warmly welcomed by the middle-class Iranians so much so that we can say the models were among the most popular vehicles in Iran until just a couple of decades ago.

Over the past years, with their entry into the Iranian market, the Chinese vehicles have managed to gain a larger share of the market mainly due to their cheaper prices compared with other vehicles. Despite the trend, Toyota’s favourite cars of young buyers – from SUVs like land cruiser and Sport Prado to sedan models – were still among the most popular vehicles for the middle- and upper-class Iranians.

But after Iranian market gave a green light to the quality vehicles from South Korea including Hyundai and KIA, Toyota began to lose gradually a significant part of its profitable share in the market.

Until just recently, Toyota’s rival companies in the Iranian market included South Koran companies (with brands like Hyundai, KIA), French companies (which with their different types of vehicles and affordable prices for upper to lower class families are growingly occupying the Iranian streets), and Chinese brands. But now the Japanese company which used to be the most favourite brand for the Iranians is facing a new challenge which began with selling a car to the Iranian embassy in India. Now the challenge is gaining momentum day by day limiting the share market of the car company in the Iranian market.

Toyota’s apology to the US government for selling a vehicle to the Iranian embassy in India has wounded the national pride of Iranians. They view the apology as Toyota’s ungratefulness to their country which had provided the Japanese company with a profitable market over the past 50 years.

This comes as US President, Donald Trump, has been provoking great outrage among the Iranians on a daily basis by his anti-Iran rhetoric, violent stances (including calling the Iranians a terrorist nation and using the false name of Arabian Gulf for referring to Persian Gulf in return of receiving millions of dollars from Arab states). The apology particularly at this juncture was viewed by the Iranian media (as well as Iranian netizens) as sprinkling Japanese salt into the wounds of Iranian inflicted by the US.

The latest reaction to Toyota’s apology to the US government for selling a vehicle to the Iranian embassy in India is a heavy political sarcasm:

“Toyota apologizes to the US government for selling a vehicle to the Iranian embassy in India but it has not yet made any apology to the world for his vehicles being driven by ISIS. Meanwhile, it has never made it clear how its vehicles have ended up in ISIS’ hand.”

The message, released in Farsi by a telegram channel named Doctor Salam, has been liked by 131,000 Iranians within just one hour.

The reaction shows that although the Iranians had closed their eyes to the convoys of newly produced Toyota vehicles, equipped with shotguns and ISIS flags and transferring thousands of terrorists and tens of tonnes of warfare for inhumane missions, they have not forgiven the Japanese company for its huge sales to the terrorists as well as its silence towards ISIS crimes. (Mandela’s soul may rest in peace)

Can we conclude that Toyota has begun a fight against itself in the Iranian market? Would a simple apology to the US for “violating” the inhumane sanctions on Iran have a disastrous consequence for the Japanese car company? Has the apology made the good memory of Toyota disappear from the minds of thousands of its Iranian fans?

Iranian People Mark Day of Fight against Global Arrogance

13 Aban

Iranian people, mostly school and university students, staged demonstrations on Saturday morning all over the country to express their opposition to the arrogant policies and attitudes of the enemies, particularly the US.

The protesters slammed the US government as the nation’s main enemy, condemning the US president’s rhetoric against Iran and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
In a final declaration after holding mass rallies in Iran’s capital of Tehran and other cities on Saturday, demonstrators reaffirmed commitment to countering the hostile plots, and described the US as Iran’s enemy number one.
They also condemned Trump’s offensive comments about Iran and his deliberate attempt to distort the true name of the Persian Gulf.
The statement also hailed the IRGC as a reliable protector against infiltration by the enemies and a thorn in the side of the US and the Zionist regime of Israel.
Ralliers have also expressed solidarity with the oppressed people in Palestine, Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, Myanmar and the Shiite Muslim of Saudi Arabia, voicing support for their fight against tyranny.

The demonstrations are held on the anniversary of the seizure of the US embassy in Tehran, which was later known as the ‘den of espionage’.

13 Aban-2On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students who called themselves “students following the line of (the late) Imam (Khomeini)” seized the US embassy, which had become a centre of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran.

The students who seized the embassy later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in plans and measures to overthrow the Islamic republic.

Every year on the 13th day of the Iranian month of Aban (which this year falls on November 4), the Iranian nation, particularly the students, hold rallies across the country to mark the day.

In the capital city of Tehran, the rallies to mark the anniversary of the landmark move are held at the venue of the former US embassy.
